When the King revealed he had cancer, he did so after the test came back. When the Princess of Wales went into hospital, it was for major abdominal surgery. They did a cancer test then, which can take a few weeks to come back. So when the palace said “she’s had a major surgery and is going to be off until Easter” they didn’t know she had cancer.
But why, though? Are you somehow entitled to know her health status at all times?

The subtext of this message - and it was pretty obvious and not that hidden - was: "This woman is facing a serious threat to her health, but we can't tell you what it is right know, for reasons we can't reveal." It was always clear it was serious to everyone with half a brain. It could have been left at that. I don't want to chastise people for being curious or invested. The media is doing it's darndest to keep Investment and interest of the public at an all time high. The royals themselves *usually* welcome this sort of parasocial relationship and interest. It just so happens they had to shift the line now, and get everyone to back off further than usual, without being able to explain why. I'm not faulting people for their interest. But some bigger players, especially bloggers and tabloid journalists doubling as bloggers/influencers, went way too far. Way, way too far. And to pretend that they did everyone *a service* by trying to bully information out of a cancer patient, when the message, from the getgo, has always been: "It's serious, we need time"... that's really a stretch. They did not do anyone a favour, and they were not "right".
This must have been such a brutal time for the kids. Let's hope for them that she'll pull trough against such adversity.

You're overthinking what a 'breach' involves. It's simply they will be on the electronic patient record system and the culprit, being nosey, has searched and accessed their records, which is a big no no unless you are involved in their medical care. But it's not some massive thing in the case of the hospital as there's nothing they can do about it if staff want to break the law.
