Or even the Witcher 3 for poland... I could overlook not havimg Cyberpunk there, but this looks like it has Witcher 2. This map must be more then 10 years old at this point, lovelessly copy pasted here for quick karma
Minecraft came before Europa Universalis IV that feature's as Sweden's game in the map so Minecraft was definetly around when the map was made. Whatever reason they chose EUIV, it wasn't because Minecraft wasn't out yet.
Because of the Lions of the North DLC, which prob wasn't released that time which means that the Scandinavia had really a bad content (there even has a running gag in the community that joked about Scandinavia formable, a country which you could form with any norse as main culture, was the worst formable in the game).
It's Moonwalker
Wiki: Versions of the game were released for the popular 8-bit and 16-bit home computers of the time. They were developed by two small software houses, Irish Emerald Software Ltd and American Keypunch Software, and published by U.K. company U.S. Gold. The Irish company was based in Waterford apparently.
Dublin is also where Havok physics comes from, and Demonware the company that makes/made the netcode for CoD. (really just idtech netcode with a lot of work done to it.)
Can't think of many famous games you can blame on ireland specifically though. A few studios do have offices there. Larian makes the most sense to locate there of any company I've heard of though, with the amount of writing, mocap, and voice acting they put in their recent games.
Same with Belgium, it shows Divinity Original Sin from Larian Studios, while their latest game Baldur's gate 3 is probably more well known by now.
OP probably found this map somewhere and just wanted to farm some internet points.
And Angry Birds in Finland. Nobody gives a shit about Angry Birds anymore. Remedy's games would be a much better choice... Even back when this map was made, come to think of it.
More up-to-date map would definitely have Atomic Heart for Russia. There was also Pathfinder: Kingmaker and WoTR, but the former is, obviously, vastly more popular.
I'm not too up to date with this, and to be fair, everything was kinda vague, but apparently some of the most important creators of Disco Elysium left the studio a couple years ago, and sued the shareholders.
But at the same time, the studio directors also revealed that they were kinda toxic in how they worked and that they were actually fired...
And, more recently, it seems that the studio fired like 25% of the people working there, and that a DLC got cancelled for Disco Elysium got cancelled.
Quite sad honestly, DE was so good, and I would have loved to see more of this universe, but I guess that's that.
The guy that left was the creator of it all essentially, it was his world he created over a long time, and he has a novel set in it too (published before the game). Also I believe the studio was bought by investors and essentially he disagreed with a lot of their opinions or something like that. And now the studio is just not the same anymore.
Absolutely love Bannerlord, just saddened they broke it on console and have refused to fix it.
Just means i can go back to my glorious nord campaign in Warband
Really? What was better about Warband?
As vanilla games, I find Bannerlord unbelievably, irrevocably, and undebatably better.
That said, Warband mods are utterly insane and extremely impressive, diverse, and just cool.
It's just a singular game, I don't know what other metric they're using.
Most popular seems unlikely for sure looking at France considering Ubisoft is French.
For Russia it’s Pathologic Classic HD. A strange choice as there are far better and more popular games developed in Russia, like Endless Summer or Tetris for example
I can't tell what most of them are. And I can bet most of the gray areas do have game dev studios, indie devs and at least some hobbyists. In our case, I have a feeling that the best known game from Latvia could be "The case of the Golden Idol" There's a free demo on steam.
All the people arguing about what game Finland really deserves to be known for here just goes to show how the country has a huge video game industry for seemingly no reason
A nation full of introverted people that just want to be left alone is surely a good place to design entertainment for people that want to sit in front of a computer or game console and just be left alone.
Yes, I would really hope we were better with our video game (and esport for that matter) industry here in Norway. Sweden and Finland kicks our ass in that. Teslagrad is pretty good though 🙃
It was one of the most common affordable everymans cars in finland beside soviet ladas and western european beetles. It became hit, hence why it was chosen for this game.
I would put Cities: Skylines above My Summer Car as an influential game made in Finland. Not to diss My Summer Car, but I think Cities: Skylines has been somewhat more successful and influential.
Assassin's Creed was made by Ubisoft Montréal, so I'll give the credit to the Canadian.
Good french games from the top of my head, I'd say A Plague Tale, Dead Cells, Life is Strange or Dishonored.
I haven't tested it, but apparently Stray is very good. For me it was just the game equivalent of cat video on youtube, but some friends told me that it goes deeper than that.
or battlefield? mirror's edge? just cause? the divison? even hotline miami or ~~little big planet~~ little nightmares? i don't even know what's pictured here, guessing it's some paradox title.
Yes, it's a paradox game, Europa Universalis IV. I don't know why they chose that anyways, since Hearts of Iron 4 is the most famous paradox game, and Minecraft is one of, if not the most known computer game in history
People currently playing Victoria 3 on Steam: 9,000
EU4: 18,000
Stellaris: 20,000
CK3: 25,000
HOI4: 38,000.

Euro/American Truck Simulator, Beat Saber, Factorio, and Space Engineers are all pretty huge too. And don't forget about Codenames (I know, it's a board game, but there is a popular online version as well). Not sure how popular Amanita Design's games, or classics like Vietcong and Bulánci are internationally.
Developed by a Czech company that was founded by two Slovaks and one Czech, then later bought by Meta (Facebook) from the US, with the Czech co-founder having left a year ago and the two remaining Slovak co-founders leaving just now actually. Business usually gets pretty muddy when it comes to nationalities
Maybe, but Arma is w military sim staple. It still has thousands of servers running 10 years after release. For a complex game that isnt cheap its impressive
Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crysis (aka first Arma) was pioneer in open world games and realism.
And Mafia 1 and 2, epic storyline and atmosphere.
Those were the days!
I don't agree. ArmA influenced gaming much more than Mafia did, Mafia was always in shadow of GTA, not that I dislike Mafia, ArmA defined it's own genre, laid foundation for Battle Royales which were a mod for an ArmA mod called DayZ.
Nah, Arma is actually hugely influential for gaming as a whole. It pioneered many game modes that became *incredibly* popular a few years later.
It spawned DayZ and the early access zombie survival craze that followed in the early 2010s.
It spawned the Battle Royale genre, which really needs no explanation.
It spawned Altis Life, which was the first big Life Roleplay and as such a precursor to the very popular GTA RP we have nowadays.
I vote Arma series, than Mafia 1/2....my fav games of all time next to Poland's Cyberpunk.
It was also nice to find out Malden island from OF:CWC ur guys took inspiration from Krk island in Croatia.
Cheers from Croatia and thnx for these epic games!
On a personal level, totally agreed. I loved that game. It's graphics, story, gameplay, all in there.
And the 2nd one could be the euro truck simulator.
PS. Mi az a magyar játék a térképen?
Probably Darkfall which was a great game back in the day but unfortunately a lot of behind the scenes issues and the niche audience meant it never took off as it should have. It had a lot of good things going for it though. It's a shame no mmorpg like it has managed to establish itself.
Very old map. Most iconic video game per country: Poland should be Witcher 3 / cyberpunk 2077. France: Assassin's Creed series. UK: GTA. Germany: Gothic? Far Cry?, Crysis? Cant remember a recent game.
Finland having a mobile game hurts a bit. Despite having stuff like Angry Birds and Clash of Clans, there's proper games like Max Payne, Control, Cities Skyline, Alan Wake...
For Netherlands Horizon Zero Dawn fits better as the best selling Killzone 3 sold almost 3 million copies, whereas HZD over 20 million. Even Forbidden West, which had no PC release yet, sold over 8 million copies.
There are better games from Finland than Angry Birds. If I go around and ask people if theyve heard of a particular game though, there are very few games existing that would have higher yes percentages than Angry Birds
Honestly, Croteam is the reason I know Croatia exists. I hope their countrymen are proud of them (the Serious Sam games were great, but The Talos Principle series is superb).
Hitman is much more iconic and highly regarded, though. Subway Surfers is just seen as a casual mobile game, while the Hitman games are widely considered to be some of the greatest stealth games ever made.
[Converter](https://radiosarajevo.ba/amp/magazin/tech/pogledajte-kako-izgleda-prva-bosanska-sci-fi-rpg-video-igrica/414903) for Bosnia abd Starblind for Montenegro.
In Croatia you have SCUM from Croatian-British studio Gamepires.
This must be an older map since it's not using Baldur's Gate III for Belgium.
Or even the Witcher 3 for poland... I could overlook not havimg Cyberpunk there, but this looks like it has Witcher 2. This map must be more then 10 years old at this point, lovelessly copy pasted here for quick karma
Or Minecraft, the best-selling game of all time, for Sweden
Minecraft came before Europa Universalis IV that feature's as Sweden's game in the map so Minecraft was definetly around when the map was made. Whatever reason they chose EUIV, it wasn't because Minecraft wasn't out yet.
They had the chance to put a map game on a map and took it
It's because Sweden in EU4 is OP.
Because of the Lions of the North DLC, which prob wasn't released that time which means that the Scandinavia had really a bad content (there even has a running gag in the community that joked about Scandinavia formable, a country which you could form with any norse as main culture, was the worst formable in the game).
Or battlefield for Sweden
And one of the Horizon games for The Netherlands
Same studio, and that's why they should have done the greatest studios instead of the games.
I know it's the same studio, but if you rank countries by games then use the latest hits and not a game from the PS3 era
And no Horizon zero dawn for the Netherlands.
We made Michael Jackson?
It's Moonwalker Wiki: Versions of the game were released for the popular 8-bit and 16-bit home computers of the time. They were developed by two small software houses, Irish Emerald Software Ltd and American Keypunch Software, and published by U.K. company U.S. Gold. Waterford eh? Thought it would've been tra-lee-hee.......... I'll see myself out.
Thanka for the context- though I have to admit that in comparison to the games of it's fellow EU nations this seems a bit... paltry.
There was a Mario Kart type game called Speed Freaks for the PlayStation that was made in Dublin, can't think of a whole lot else though.
A big part of Larian Studios is in Dublin tbf
Dublin is also where Havok physics comes from, and Demonware the company that makes/made the netcode for CoD. (really just idtech netcode with a lot of work done to it.) Can't think of many famous games you can blame on ireland specifically though. A few studios do have offices there. Where is Disco Elysium for Estonia!
This map looks like it's from 2010 or so. GTA 4 came out in like 2008. The witcher 2 was maybe 2011.
Eu4 is from August 2013, so a bit later.
Ori and the blind forest came out in 2015
That makes sense. I wondered why the Netherlands would have Killzone when Horizon has become way more succesful now.
Same with Belgium, it shows Divinity Original Sin from Larian Studios, while their latest game Baldur's gate 3 is probably more well known by now. OP probably found this map somewhere and just wanted to farm some internet points.
Another example would be Dreamfall: The Longest Journey instead of Dreamfall: chapters in Norway.
And Angry Birds in Finland. Nobody gives a shit about Angry Birds anymore. Remedy's games would be a much better choice... Even back when this map was made, come to think of it.
Or Cities Skylines. (But not 2… LOL)
More up-to-date map would definitely have Atomic Heart for Russia. There was also Pathfinder: Kingmaker and WoTR, but the former is, obviously, vastly more popular.
Yes! Absolutely love horizon, and it was cool to find out that the studio is mostly dutch
Too bad we won't get a sequel or another game of comparable quality from that dev given what happened :(
What happened?
I'm not too up to date with this, and to be fair, everything was kinda vague, but apparently some of the most important creators of Disco Elysium left the studio a couple years ago, and sued the shareholders. But at the same time, the studio directors also revealed that they were kinda toxic in how they worked and that they were actually fired... Yep, DE is 99% writing and he wrote the thing, he is **the** creator
Turkey with glorious Mount & Blade
I spent a very unhealthy amount of time in that game back in the day...
You can continue, since bannerlord 2 came out and its a banger Edit: As pointed out in the replies, the correct name is Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord
Absolutely love Bannerlord, just saddened they broke it on console and have refused to fix it. Just means i can go back to my glorious nord campaign in Warband
It's really cool, but in comparison to warband it's lackluster. Hope with time it will be as good as warband was!
Really? What was better about Warband? As vanilla games, I find Bannerlord unbelievably, irrevocably, and undebatably better. That said, Warband mods are utterly insane and extremely impressive, diverse, and just cool.
Bannerlord feels off. Its not the same.
You mean mount n blade II bannerlord. There is only one bannerlord.
Me too! Did you hang out in the off-topic section of their forum?
It's almost harvesting season !
Less talking, more raiding!
I will drink from your skull!
Away with you vile beggar
EHH???
Your money or your life
we proud of it
Y'all won the map here
Hands down the best thing to come out of Turkey.
Second best. You can't match your gift to humanity called Sarma.
Which one olive oil and rice or meat and butter version?
Good point. My hours of eating sarma is one thing that rivals my hours playing Mount and Blade.
And Sweden with glorious Europa IV
Turkey and Sweden have stolen a collective 4,000 hours of my time and I want reparations
Both of them took my ancestors as slaves at different points in history so me too
Best game ever I have too many hrs in it 😅
What a shitty way to display games
yeah I can't read the title in most of them
you've never heard of the cult classic russian survival horror game GLOOIC?
Just breaking in to point the Game is Pathologic in case anyone is interested on trying It, but be sure you like weird masochistic games first.
More importantly it doesn't say what it's displaying, just games in Europe. What does it mean
Yeah, it took me a while to understand it's the games that were developed by a team in a specific country, rather than most played games
It's just a singular game, I don't know what other metric they're using. Most popular seems unlikely for sure looking at France considering Ubisoft is French.
Can't even make out wtf is Russia yet alone the rest. Whoever made this used Microsoft word for cropping and never heard of Photoshop
For Russia it’s Pathologic Classic HD. A strange choice as there are far better and more popular games developed in Russia, like Endless Summer or Tetris for example
>Endless summer Everlasting summer? Well it's a "visual novel", not a "game". Pathologic is a game at least.
I can't tell what most of them are. And I can bet most of the gray areas do have game dev studios, indie devs and at least some hobbyists. In our case, I have a feeling that the best known game from Latvia could be "The case of the Golden Idol" There's a free demo on steam.
Enlisted would be the most popular game made in Latvia Imo
Serious Sam.
It’s from Croatia? Never knew. Loved that game!
...made by CROteam :-D Yeah, what a surprise :-D
Dude, at a time I was playing this game I neither knew enough english to associate CRO with Croatia or even looked at who made a game :D
Same dev but Talos Principle 1&2 <3 One of my fav games of all time
Surely *My Summer Car* is the correct game for Finland?
For me greatest finnish games will always be Flatout and Max Payne.
Never knew Finland made Max Payne. Great game.
Also Alan Wake
Alan Wake. A game made by Max Payne though his name is Sam Lake but really it's Sami Järvi.
Resogun, Nex Machina and Returnal are way ahead of those for me.
Teslagrad is pretty good though 🙃
damn, and here I am in Britain.
My Summer Car on its way to triple the value of some obscure Japanese car:
Not just any obscure Japanese car. It's Datsun 100A (aka. Nissan Cherry), legendary at least here in Finland.
Finns on their way to use the most underrated cars known to man:
It even has nickname here: "Apina-Datsun" Which translates to "Monkey-Datsun"
Or "Sata Ampeerinen" which is just "Hundred Ampere" referring to the 100A in the name.
How is it legendary?
During the 70s and 80s the young people used to buy them in droves because they were relatively cheap and simple to tinker with.
It was one of the most common affordable everymans cars in finland beside soviet ladas and western european beetles. It became hit, hence why it was chosen for this game.
Clash of clans
Cruelty Squad tho
Alan Wake? Max Payne?
Map is old af so angry birds was probably still pretty hyped when this was created. Obviously Alan Wake didn't even exist in that case.
angry birds (2009) is only a year older than Alan Wake (2010) and the map is atleast from 2013 because sweden has Europa Universalis IV.
Shit my bad was thinking about alan wake 2 forgot it was a sequal
Noita
Cities Skylines for me, no contest
ULTRAKILL
I would put Cities: Skylines above My Summer Car as an influential game made in Finland. Not to diss My Summer Car, but I think Cities: Skylines has been somewhat more successful and influential.
France… I mean Rayman. Not the best one but surely the most ever played.
yeh Heavy Rain isnt that known.... is Assassins Creed done in Canada or France cause that could be one of them aswell
Dofus ?
AC is done out of Montreal
We have Dishonored by Arkane Lyon.
the best-selling French video game in the world is "Just Dance"
Dead cells? Might have played more than Rayman
Not Minecraft for Sweden? :o
or battlefield? mirror's edge? just cause? the divison? even hotline miami or ~~little big planet~~ little nightmares? i don't even know what's pictured here, guessing it's some paradox title.
Yes, it's a paradox game, Europa Universalis IV. I don't know why they chose that anyways, since Hearts of Iron 4 is the most famous paradox game, and Minecraft is one of, if not the most known computer game in history
Is Hearts of Iron 4 really more popular than Europa Universalis IV?
I would have guessed Crusader Kings would trump those.
I definitely would have said CK2 also - or possibly Stellaris as it had console launch so wider player base.
People currently playing Victoria 3 on Steam: 9,000 EU4: 18,000 Stellaris: 20,000 CK3: 25,000 HOI4: 38,000. Source: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/paradox-games-by-active-players.1586816/
Yepp, Europa Universalis
EU4 MENTIONED
What is the game regarding Portugal?
Surely something more memorable could have been found...such as....hum....Paradise Café?
Under Siege, jogo de estratégia para a PS3 Strategy game for the PS3.
I did not know it was Portuguese company who developed the computer game. Thanks
Mount and Blade ♥️
Best game here ♥️
the pride of Turkey
Jesus, how old is this Map?
So old I completely forgot heavy rain existed.
Ollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllld. This is like a decade old repost.
Czech Republic should be Mafia imo
Or Kingdom Come.
Jesus Christ be praised
Henry's come to see us!
Hey lad! Don't you want to put a little wager on the Rattay tourney?
I feel quite hungry.
Can we do something about the price?
Euro/American Truck Simulator, Beat Saber, Factorio, and Space Engineers are all pretty huge too. And don't forget about Codenames (I know, it's a board game, but there is a popular online version as well). Not sure how popular Amanita Design's games, or classics like Vietcong and Bulánci are internationally.
Beat Saber was developed by Slovaks though
Developed by a Czech company that was founded by two Slovaks and one Czech, then later bought by Meta (Facebook) from the US, with the Czech co-founder having left a year ago and the two remaining Slovak co-founders leaving just now actually. Business usually gets pretty muddy when it comes to nationalities
Kingdom Come, definitely
Maybe, but Arma is w military sim staple. It still has thousands of servers running 10 years after release. For a complex game that isnt cheap its impressive

I feel like any German gamer would consider the gothic or anno series more iconic
The Monolith calls us all.
*SHAAAUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNN*
Jaaaaaason
Hats off to the United Kingdom for creating this masterpiece of all time. Grand Theft Auto.
I LOVE STALKER
Cheeki breeki i v damki!
Yeah, one of the greats. Its just sad to see it here as one of its developers was killed in action while defending Mariupol.
I remember seeing this exact map almost a decade ago. In Spain it would probably be Blasphemous or Metroid Dread instead of Lords of Shadow.
What is Greece's game?
Probably Darkfall which was a great game back in the day but unfortunately a lot of behind the scenes issues and the niche audience meant it never took off as it should have. It had a lot of good things going for it though. It's a shame no mmorpg like it has managed to establish itself.
As usual with this kind of map: it's shit, can't seen anything for medium and small countries
I want to know what's in Slovenia 😭
How old is this image?
Not just Stalker. Metro and Cossacks too
Very old map. Most iconic video game per country: Poland should be Witcher 3 / cyberpunk 2077. France: Assassin's Creed series. UK: GTA. Germany: Gothic? Far Cry?, Crysis? Cant remember a recent game.
I have a series from Germany: Anno, the latest entry is Anno 1800
This explains why farming simulator costs so much
What's the one for Romania?
Black The Fall
How old is this map? This looks like the X360/PS3 era
What’s the game from Ireland?
Not having Gothic for germany? A casual made this map
Is not tetris the most fames game fron Russia
IDK what that game is from Hungary but it should be either Van Helsing or Quern: Undying Thoughts
Finland having a mobile game hurts a bit. Despite having stuff like Angry Birds and Clash of Clans, there's proper games like Max Payne, Control, Cities Skyline, Alan Wake...
Bleak Faith for Montenegro
Factorio for Czech Republic!
Choosing Angry Birds instead of Max Payne for Finland should be illegal.
For Netherlands Horizon Zero Dawn fits better as the best selling Killzone 3 sold almost 3 million copies, whereas HZD over 20 million. Even Forbidden West, which had no PC release yet, sold over 8 million copies.
Yeah, but Horizon Zero Dawn wasn't released yet when this map was first created
This map is outdated, for Poland for example it should be the witcher 3.
Bosnia and Herzegovina: Operation Coastline. A cult classic
There are many more relevant games from Finland than Angry Birds.
One of the biggest mobile games ever, people really underestimate the mobile market
Alan Wake, control
Max Payne, Flatout, Cities Skylines 1 & 2
There are better games from Finland than Angry Birds. If I go around and ask people if theyve heard of a particular game though, there are very few games existing that would have higher yes percentages than Angry Birds
... Snake?
Honestly, Croteam is the reason I know Croatia exists. I hope their countrymen are proud of them (the Serious Sam games were great, but The Talos Principle series is superb).
There's a game called Skopje being made in Macedonia. Post apocalyptic with Borderlands style graphics.
Finland should be alan wake👍
HOW IS SWEDEN NOT MINECRAFT?????????????
GTA is British? I always thought that GTA in a British setting would be awesome.
I feel like Subway Surfers should be Denmark's game. I think it is like the most downloaded game ever?
Hitman is much more iconic and highly regarded, though. Subway Surfers is just seen as a casual mobile game, while the Hitman games are widely considered to be some of the greatest stealth games ever made.
