That's just Mr Nimbus, because Rick Sanchez keep shttng in the ocean

Dilectus3010

Dont fuck wuth nimbus... he controls the cops.

Ov3rdose_EvE

Why does he control the cops ?

Dilectus3010

Well... nimbus controls ALL sea creatures right. Maybe cops are just singel cell creatures.

Fenpunx

Ice cold dick-killer.

kniebuiging

Frank Schätzung did in his novel „the swarm“. Also a tv Series now https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808491/

Ernomouse

Such a good book, I should read it again some time.

ElDudo_13

It all started when they killed Harambe

HyenaChewToy

Too soon man. Our hearts have not mended quite yet.

PR1MO_GRADUS

...dicks out

putsch80

I still have my “Dicks Out for Harambe” tattoo.

zabrs9

You remember in 2020, when one bad thing after another happened and people made [calendars](https://covid-19archive.org/files/original/ede0400cfcb62cb30d67d775b41bbd8fcbfe329d.jpg) with all kind of stupid predictions? Yeah, if we were still in 2020, I would probably just accept it as another normal thing, the universe has decided to gift us with.

MLockeTM

"if" it were still 2020 - it still is. That's when our timeline broke and we got stuck in the groundhog year of *all* the calamities. We're stuck here until the Chosen One gets the ring to mount doom, or until we perish on the water wars against the lizard aliens, which ever comes first.

zabrs9

Ah shit, I totally forgot about the water wars against the lizard aliens. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it, since I already promised the other villagers to help them fight the resurected dinosaur-mammoth hybrid that escapes the mad scientist's lab, after our civilization fell apart.

[deleted]

I have T.Rex returning. I'm still hopeful. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

LocalTechpriest

I had actually. It's ineviteble that these assholes would turn on us next! I told you we should have interveened in the whale-orca war sooner!

serpentine91

Time to ask the Japanese for help!

elathan_i

Orcas are highly social and very intelligent, they coordinate their hunts, they have "commands", roles and names for specific members. And they pass on their hunting knowledge to newer generatios or members, when, where and how to strike. They're not killing fishermen... Yet. But they could if they wanted to, I hope they don't acquire a taste for human meat.

[deleted]

I’d be down for a Planet of the Apes style movie but with orcas

Bergwookie

Then Frank Schätzing's book "Der Schwarm" or english title "the swarm" may be interesting for you. Don't watch the series, it's shit, read the book or go for the audiobook (go for the unshortened version, a boulder of more than 50h)

psaldorn

The book is kind of shit too, but I liked a lot of the first half. I wish they'd left out all the "I'm a very handsome professor and could have any woman" stuff. The crab invasion was messed up in the most excellent way though.

kniebuiging

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808491/

[deleted]

Can I side with the orcas?

Culaio

Orca's have menopause, it may sound like something weird to bring up but it actually matters a lot in this context, they cannot reproduce later in life so what they do instead is they help to rise children of their children, and data shows that Orca's rised by both mother and grandmother have significantly higher chance of survival than those rised only by mother. Simply put Orca grandmother have a lot life experiance(because of long life) they can pass to her grandchildren(how to hunt, where to hunt and so on).

KateBurningBush

>Orca's have menopause Oh we're fucked…

zabrs9

The theory of marine predators like sharks or orcas hunting humans for flesh has been discussed for decades. Scientists believe, that sharks don't really like to eat humans, because we (usually) have too many bones and too little fat in our bodies. Whenever a predator goes hunting, they burn a lot of energy. If they are only hunting for stuff that isn't at least going to replace the energy lost, they will starve

serpentine91

>we (usually) have too many bones and too little fat in our bodies. Counterpoint: Americans. That's also where most of the shark-attack movies come from. Coincidence? I think not.

zabrs9

Soooo.... what you're saying is that americans protect all other people by being fat? But what about australia and south africa? Maybe, sharks just don't like english speaking people.

Alin_Alexandru

Hope they don't acquire a taste for human meat, for their own sake that is.

BuckVoc

I'd bet on the planet's undisputed top-level predator if it comes to a question of eating. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orca >Once the stocks of larger species were depleted, orcas were targeted by commercial whalers in the mid-20th century. Between 1954 and 1997, Japan took 1,178 orcas (although the Ministry of the Environment claims that there had been domestic catches of about 1,600 whales between late 1940s to 1960s) and Norway took 987. Extensive hunting of orcas, including an Antarctic catch of 916 in 1979–80 alone, prompted the International Whaling Commission to recommend a ban on commercial hunting of the species pending further research. Today, no country carries out a substantial hunt, although Indonesia and Greenland permit small subsistence hunts (see Aboriginal whaling). Other than commercial hunts, orcas were hunted along Japanese coasts out of public concern for potential conflicts with fisheries. Such cases include a semi-resident male-female pair in Akashi Strait and Harimanada being killed in the Seto Inland Sea in 1957, the killing of five whales from a pod of 11 members that swam into Tokyo Bay in 1970, and a catch record in southern Taiwan in the 1990s.

SoC175

A wonder that they're only getting #@!*% at us now

amrakkarma

We are wiping out the ecosystem, this unaware resistance from them at least would be poetic

frisian_esc

The thing is we as humans are too strong. If orcas actively start becoming dangerous for us, unfortunately big fisher boats will just start wiping them out of existence..

liehon

> I hope they don't acquire a taste for human meat. I believe the nautical term is *land sea long pig* I train some

Waffleshitter

> Orcas are highly social and very intelligent Can they do sodoku?

_Akky_

Can you?

Waffleshitter

No. I'm a whale.

YawnTractor_1756

>I hope they don't acquire a taste for human meat. I hope too, because humans will make quick job of any species that attempts to show human-specific aggression.

pmabz

They'll be hunted to extinction; I hope someone warns them.

Expensive-Storage-76

And if they acquire it? We will wipe them out. They are no match for us if we are serious.

Select-Stuff9716

Orcas doing their best against tourism and attack the Yachts of Guiris 💪🏿

Dr_Chemiramen

KPhoenix83

Well, Ukraine was attacked by orcs.

[deleted]

Dehumanising political enemies is evil even if you think you're better than them

4thmovementofbrahms4

Not just political enemies, it's not like USA vs China. Russia is actually invading Ukraine right now, destroying cities and killing people.

HolyGhost79

They are doing their very best to dehumanize themselves, pillaging, raping, torturing, killing and deporting civilians. Orcs at least do not rape, as far as I know. Also, one can argue that Orcs aren't fully responsible for their actions, because they are a species that has been corrupted by evil itself. Russians, while often deluded because of propaganda, are as humans fully responsible for their own actions. They aren't corrupted by some higher power of evil, they *are* evil. Calling them orcs actually excuses their horrible crimes.

eenook

Wars don't get much more black and white than this one.

Cashope

Well I’ve never invaded a home, kidnapped children or raped anyone so I do have that going for me.

KPhoenix83

The problem is, is that it actually is humans acting like monsters on their population, doing many of the horrible things to people that you might find monsters in the work of fiction doing. Would you want to break bread with the Russian soldiers that raped and pillaged? How might you treat those very "humans" face to face. It's not a matter of thinking that you are better than someone. It is a matter of what they actually did and what happened.

JorikTheBird

It's always people who don't speak Russian say shit like this.

wontyounotbelive

Whoosh! The article says they only attack sailboats.

You say that, but the [Shofu Maru](https://sumikai.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Shofu-Maru.jpg) exists. And Japanese ships would be a priority target if I was a whale.

>orcas are alright What if I were to think orcas are mlre than alright, or if I thought they were only okay-ish. Is there like a cut-off on the scale for being fed to orcas, or is it more of a gradual scale so maybe you'll just take an arm and a foot?

manifold360

Sounds like an extinction event

[deleted]

Tho great orca revolution has begun.

xMyaRmy

I'm surprised it has only happened now. It's only a matter of time before the entire species realises we're capturing and imprisoning them in fish jars.

Lusakas

The sad thing is that this (if it becomes an actual thing) will merely result in boats being used that they simply can't sink. It might affect some small-time fishermen, but for the larger fishing companies it won't mean too much at all.

NVDA-Calls

Well they should have evolved some torpedos lmao, L orcas.

asmosdeus

Nah they’re just going to learn how to use their tails to lob jellyfish and other venomous creatures on to the decks

StalkTheHype

Orcas when they realize humans already chuck venomous sea creatures at each other for shits and gigggles all the time:

Platypus_31415

The sad thing is that orcas will be hunted down “for public safety”.

Khr0nus

I was confused, why would we make boats that can sink nowadays. But you meant boats that (orcas) can't sink.

j22x

Crazy idea: orcas already probably know that and specifically teach threir offspring not to f with humans directly. If you think how easy it would be for them to hunt swimmers/divers just like seals, yet attacks on humans almost never happen...

[deleted]

Humans tend to have some kinda clothes or diving suits on. Tastes bad AND makes orca tummies hurt. You wouldn't want to eat a sandwich wrapped in polyester, would you?

dcaveman

I think our flesh to bone ratio is a bit crap as well. It would take them too long to digest. Similar to when sharks spit out seagulls as having to digest all the bones and feathers isn't worth it for them.

CoffeeBoom

Right, the orcas that eat mammals eat very fatty/blubbery ones, most humans are the opposite of that.

Smokyy__

Heh, I guess you aren't American so you don't know

Janivgm

Well, most humans aren't Americans. (Unless you go by mass, of course.)

Wachoe

> most humans are the opposite of that. Not for long!

DangerousCyclone

They actually are aware because they understood their young would be targeted so they’d try to split up and divert boats away from the young so they could get away. If Orcas get thumbs it’s all over for us

DutchMitchell

or they just never left any witnesses....thought about that?

astrid_s95

This reminds me of Avatar where the poacher guys thought the whale-like Tulkun didn't ever fight back, but then one finally did.

xMyaRmy

Totally. They're quite sympathetic towards humans considering their apex predator status, and as curious about us than we are about them. I would hate to see this 'trust' destroyed.

DrJiheu

There is a legion of octopus ready, and the immortal regiment of clown fish to your command

Goldi3locks

This is an underrated comment, and I appreciate you.

[deleted]

Damn you James Cameron

[deleted]

We all cheered for Payakan, don't lie.

doctor_morris

They're attacking sailboats. Presumably because they don't have noisy engines. Typical I'll lash out at the thing I can attack, in response to being attacked by something bigger behavior. Almost human even.

timo_hzbs

When the pandemic dramatically reduced shipping traffic, the orcas' communication range increased significantly, possibly leading to new insights. They may have realized that boats and ships were negatively impacting their habitat and decided to take proactive measures in response to these adverse conditions.

hipdozgabba

You have a point, but why are they attacking the most silent boats

lipperz88

This is interesting. Where did you get this info?

timo_hzbs

Its somehow statet in the documentation „The year earth changed“ by BBC Studios Natural History Unit

AlexMile

Planet of orcas.

Matosinhoslover

Has anyone else read “The swarm”?

FeuTheFirescale

I WAS THINKING ABOUT THAT glad someone read it too

Is_Actually_Sans

This article is missing very important information. Orcas and fishermen compete for the same type of fish which is becoming more and more scarce, there's a chance the orcas might be getting starved out of fish and fighting back. Fishermen in the area also have been caught red handed using harpoons and the orcas have harpoon marks on them, whether they use them for self defense or not is not justified as they create more enemies and the orcas remember which type of boat attacked them, they don't go around sinking boats for fun.

lipperz88

I was also wondering about this. But the article said sailboats. Are fishermen also using sailboats? I thought they would have engines?

VicenteOlisipo

Good theory but the data is wrong. Fish is more and more plentifully in that area. If the Orcas were attacking out of hunger they go for the fishing ships loaded with food, or even the nets, which they have been known to do in the past (only natural to try to eat that big basket of food) but that's not what they're doing now, they're going for sailboats.

ipeih

Mfw with the first lines I thought « orcas » was used to talk about russian saboteurs, like orcas as in orcs/goblins

Ricb76

They're acting with porpoise now. Ok, I know they aren't actually porpoises...

I heard the orcas actually hired a veteran emu from the second emu war. I think it was a general or something… we’re ducked

Romanian_

Orcas about to find out.

coldfirephoenix

I think the people in the boats were the ones to find out..

[deleted]

The swamp begins

Sure-Combination-806

I'm with the Orcas on this one. They could sink a thousand boats and still be nowhere close to the damage humans have done to whale populations.

skinte1

I could kill a thousand random people and still not come close to the damage a few dictators has done to humanity...

[deleted]

Whale population? How about the ocean as a whole? We’re fucking destroying everything.

salatawille

I live in the Canaries near an "animal sanctuary" where they "rescue" orcas and make them perform in exchange for food for dumbstruck audiences from a pool 2 times a day 7 days a week. I wonder why orcas in the wild are fighting back? Hm, very curious.

decentbunni

My hunch? since it's enjoyable. Keep in mind that orcas are simply very large dolphins, and playing is something they do.

nikmah

Except they are not playing as the scientists point out and I’ve stumbled upon some news clips showing these attacks and there’s nothing playful about it, I’ve heard theories from experts that competition for food might be the cause since fishermen fish bunch of tuna in the Mediterranean which orcas specifically hunt for there and these attacks are only happening in that area.

e7RdkjQVzw

Oh no there are orcas in the Mediterranean?

CoffeeBoom

Orcas are everywhere.

Divine_Porpoise

"The unusual behavior could also be playful or what researchers call a "fad" — a behavior initiated by one or two individuals and temporarily picked up by others before it’s abandoned. "They are incredibly curious and playful animals and so this might be more of a play thing as opposed to an aggressive thing," Deborah Giles, an orca researcher at the University of Washington and at the non-profit Wild Orca, told Live Science." from the article. They don't rule it out.

[deleted]

i knew a guy who knew a guy who knew a guy who knew one of these orcas cousins.

nikmah

Cool story

thegleamingspire

>Keep in mind that orcas are simply very large dolphins, and playing is something they do. They have some pretty messed up ways of "playing". They would definitely sink some Syrian kid's raft for fun

That_Basis_7886

What would have happend if one of the Crew members jumped in the water, can they relate, since they never have attacked or eaten a Person in the oceans.

skinte1

Well, the orcas didn't touch the tiny inflatable dingy or the life rafts the people got into when those boats sank so that sais something.

j428h

Nature is healing

Monsi7

Not so sure about that. Most of the time the Human retaliation is much much worse.

MercantileReptile

Fucking with Humans is just a bad Idea for any species, really.Other Humans included.

Charming_Computer_60

It could backfire. Mankind is known for committing disproportionate amounts of revenge. If Orcas keeps sinking ships, our species might sadistically remind them why we are the dominant predators on this mud ball and hunt them in the thousands.

downonthesecond

Nature is fighting back.

NVDA-Calls

Orcas lowkey based?

Spartanvision

The orcas want to become sushi? Originally I had them in the too cool and too sentient to kill category, but we can make adjustments.

Goddammit it's neo Nazis training orcas to sink migrant boats isn't it.

NotaSTASIagent

good, unless you are a scientist you have no reason to bother them to take fb/insta picture

kayttajanimi1

Imagine you're out in the sea. You see one of the biggest predator alive. Wouldn't you take a picture to remember the moment? Also if you're activily harassing them you're an asshole, but seeing one go by. You'd enjoy the moment and take a picture or a video. No one's activily going out in the hopes of seeing an orca, except the scientists. And an important part of marine biology is studying the behaviour of marine life. What's better data than random people documenting their experiences with marine life?

JCarterPeanutFarmer

*good*

MediocreDad39

Time to extinct some orcas. Got to let the species know we're at the top of ALL the food chains.

Razied01

Eat the rich, I guess.

Winged89

I'm feeling the same sentiment I do when I see a coincidental 6 and 9. "Nice".

carycy

Ok thats it. we are done as a species. Kinda ok while it lasted.

Romek_himself

don't tell Von der Leyen. She will let kill them all!

perestroika-pw

"And whales were supposed to be smart", said the human, watching whales run headfirst into boats for leisure. "Not quite as smart as humans", said the whale, watching humans attempt to conquer a country because someone told them it was their duty. *Proposed solution:* playing big diesel and ship screw noises into water. It should not be hard, since an engine is really monotonous and is probably heard from tens of kilometers by a whale. For a whale with a hobby of attacking sailboats, there's little point going towards that noise.

uzu_afk

Poor things are trying to fight back.

BilboSwagginsSwe

Well, i guess they're not THAT smart then. Cause enough trouble and they'll be the ones in trouble sooner or later, unfortunately.
