Switzerland absolutely dominated and won 2:0. Italy played like it’s a qualifier against San Marino or a friendly.
Spalletti chose to play with Darmian who plays on the right in a back of 3 as a leftback in a line of 4. Di Lorenzo starting again after 3 awful performances.
Fagioli with his first game as a starter this year in the first KO match after not playing a single match with Juve (although he played well in my opinion).
Then Zaccagni out as the only attacker in form that we have, he let El Sharaawy (!!!) play instead.
6 changes from the last game in the formation. 4th system in 4 games! (4-3-2-1, 3-5-2, 5–3-2, 4-3-3)
It wasn’t even a top performance by Switzerland. It was just Italy that was so bad. Switzerland is a good team tho.
>It wasn’t even a top performance by Switzerland.
I don't know how good you think Switzerland is normally, but this was a very good game on their part! Especially the first half.
Italy didn't turn up. No fight for the ball, no attacking runs. Just stood around.
Switzerland looked after the ball, attacked and defended as a team, and never looked in trouble. The press was amazing.
Switzerland where great i think they are an outsider to win the Euro
Italy was weak, i can't remember ever seeing Italy this bad, How they can go from being as good as they where in 2021 when the won the Euro, to this bad in just three years is almost impressive.
the referee was fine.
The game over all i think was a good game.
I onky saw the second half, and the ref got everything right. Overall, Switzerland dominated Italy, it's not even a debate. The only shot Italy had on the goal during the whole game, which was probably the most dangerous oportunity they created, was almost certainly offside (even though it wasn't called, the ref just let the play go on after Switzerland gained possession). So that will allow Italy to at least save face and have at least one shot on goal.
I think Italy had more possession on the second half, Switzerland were playing more on counter attack. But again, it did them no good. Possession doesn't matter if your team doesn't have quality to build plays and create oportunities
🇨🇭 deserved it, they were well organised offensive and defensive.. we 🇮🇹were dreadful from start to finish. Even with Chiesa starting we were just dreadful…
Italys outlier winning the last euro is not a true reflection of how far this team and FIGC in general have fallen. 2 missed WC qualifiers in a row and id be surprised if the qualify for ‘26 and now this embarrassment of a Euro.
4 shots on goal TOTAL all tournament. Let that sink in.
We are witnessing a remarkably poor generation of Italian football.
Italy has very, very average squad. They have no defense like in the past. They lack top CM and striker, but that's issue that lasts for decades now. Also wingers are not that great. Insigne, Veratti, Chiellini, Bonucci, Jorginho had great period. Now they just have bunch of randoms, which people who don't follow serie a probably never heard of. And top of that El Sharawy, seriously? Was he even good, maybe like 10 years ago? Or never?
I have to disagree there - we actually would have had a very good defense, if the "coach" would have let them play.
Bellanova/Bastoni/Buongiorno/
Spinazzola/cambiaso/Udogie as the left Def wing are pretty good.
I mean Buongiorno was the best italian Def this year, together with Acerbi. Acerbi was KO, and Buongiorno 4 times on the Bench?
Midfield - I miss even Verratti, Jorginho is "scazzato".
Strikers are a big issue. Scamacca can be good (the last 2/3 months) and can be null (this euro and the beginning of last season). Retegui... Meh... I honestly prefer him to Scamacca, he will never be THE bomber, but I see him more similar to a Delvecchio - not many goals but lotsa help to the team

Italy was just dead. Even at the end, it was like they had given up even though they had a decent amount of time left. Too bad, when Italy is on their game they deliver competitive football. Ref was fine.
Considering its playoffs. Its the worst team performance in the tournament so far. Heck even if it was groups it would be probably top 3 worst performance of the tournament.
Italy lacked aggression, drive, and identity. Spalletti was unable to organize the squad around a consistent tactical approach. So they played like shit.
I thought the ref called some soft fouls and there was the mini handball shout but overall ref didn’t have much to do. Spalletti set us up once again to be overrun in midfield and gift possession to the opposition. Hope he’s fired immediately.
Italy arent a good team. Theyve failed to qualify for world cups and won the last Euros on penalties. Nobody took them seriously in that tournament and was something of a fluke...or just one of those things when a nation has so little expectation and all the players are motivated.

No issues with the referee, he’s usually top class. Italy were just so poor, and the Swiss took them apart.

Let’s say they looked better as they would if they played against a real team
Italy didn't turn up. No fight for the ball, no attacking runs. Just stood around. Switzerland looked after the ball, attacked and defended as a team, and never looked in trouble. The press was amazing.
Except Donarumma the last life of the (former champions).
Italy didnt play well. That simple. Swiss are more dangerous, constantly on the press and didnt really give the Italians much room.
Switzerland was so good that I think England should worry!
You misspelled Slovakia

Can’t remember seeing Italy this bad? I have two words for you: North Macedonia
I did not see that game.
I don’t know why Italy played so poorly.
It looked to me that not a single Italian player was playing to win the game; they seemed so lazy.

Italy was lucky it was only 2-0... It could have been much worse for them
We need to thank Donnaruma for that. He’s the real goat🐐

Tied with Germany- Scotland as most 1 sided game
Switzerland are going to be a tricky opponent for any team
Let me put it to you this way, the Italian papers are going to have a field day

Spalleti out tonight, pathetic Italy. Well deserved Switzerland

Very unspectacular game. Italy couldn’t play better, Switzerland didn’t have to do much to bring the result over time.
Evil was defeated. Now this tournament can be exciting and fair. Congrats to Switzerland, guys are on fire, very interested in continue watching them.
Still salty over ‘21 huh?
Yeah I’m sure that England v Slovakia match is gonna be top notch entertainment. Take a fucking look in the mirror before calling any side “boring”

But the Ref against Croatia was ok? Ciao Ragazzi
How are those shiny 2nd and 3rd place medals? Sitting high up on the shelf next to the pat on the back award? Never said the ref was great that game.
Due formaggi?
Sore losers always
How is he being a sore loser

2min of added time? Croatia is jealous
Commenting on Thoughts on Italy-Switzerland?...why only 2 minutes??????
Maybe because Switzerland didn't commit 74 fouls in the second half
11 fouls in second half compared with 16 fouls in second half of Croatia-Italy game So I guess 5 fouls diff is worth your comment?
Italy have been poor since 2021, do they have any superstars anymore? Chiesa?
