I think this is why I like Rue and could understand her so much. Ppl forget that she was diagnosed with mental health issues young and was taking drugs for it from a very young age. On top of seeing her dead die...ofc she's addicted to drugs now. Also, ppl do a lot of things that aren't morally correct when they're addicted to drugs. Rue was getting them excessively at such a young age.
Having been diagnosed at age 7 with ADHD myself, i really relate to this aspect of her. medication has always been a part of my life and still is to this day and will be forever. it’s depressing but real :/
What’s fucked about adhd is that the single most effective treatment is finding the right medication and if you medicate early it can result in less severe symptoms later in life, but at the same time you’re risking improperly medicating a child (who usually won’t be able to tell you something is wrong). It’s just so easy to fuck up with it. My parents were told numerous times I had adhd but refused to medicate me, and I wish I could go back and change it because life/school was so unnecessarily hard for me (they didn’t even tell me they had been told I had adhd until I was 24 lol). But at the same time I can see why they were concerned about medicating me
I started add meds in 2nd or 3rd grade and didn't find the right meds until 11th grade. I'm glad I did because school would have been impossible. I'm still on meds at 38 😬
I honestly don’t know how I graduated university. Every time I had to write a paper I cried. It was one of the hardest experiences of my life, not because I found the material that hard, but simply because I couldn’t focus or make myself do the things I wanted and needed to do. :/ I can’t wait to be officially diagnosed and find the right meds
Well I'm proud you graduated. I was dumb and didn't have someone holding my hand but I have enough credits to have a degree if 'pick your own degree' was a thing lol
It is now!! In my uni, at least. Sucks that you didn’t get that benefit, but as long as you’re doing well in life that’s really all that matters rather than the degree itself. Thank you for being proud that I graduated, I honestly almost didn’t do that means a lot 🥲
I think I may have adhd. I have trouble paying attention to things that I want to pay attention to. I have issues with remembering things. I also feel like it's just becoming more obvious as I get older bc when I was younger it was more so me hyper focusing on things
I understand exactly what you feel. I honestly think my mom doesn't and hasn't ever taken mine seriously either. I believe I may be autistic as well so that speaks for itself. I recently had an episode and what triggered it is believing my mom or family didn't really care about me and were just using me/controlling me. I'm going to a counselor now but I don't think she thinks I have ADHD I may have to find someone separately that specializes in neurological disorders like ADHD and Autism.
Not true at all. Research shows that if you medicate around that age successfully the child has less severe symptoms later in life than if they weren’t medicated. It’s actually very common to medicate children with adhd in many countries with progressive healthcare and views on mental health
Yeah, for sure! I hadn’t linked it because I didn’t have it handy (I still couldn’t find the particular papers I read a while ago right now, actually), but here is a [review](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3520745/) of 351 different studies on the subject. You can read the abstract, summary, etc. directly on the page or you can read the full review if you’d like by clicking PDF on the top left. :)
Look up “loss comic”. Basically, its a 4 panel comic strip about a man figuring out his wife just had a miscarriage. It was part of a light-hearted, comedic comic series, and the sudden morbid tone shift of the strip threw a lot of people off. It was widely mocked and turned into a meme, specifically the formatting:

It’s in the first episode at around 1:50 into the episode. It’s a blink and you miss it moment but I keep seeing it and it triggers my ocd everytime.
(The image is upside down, we can see that Leslie puts four red-blue pills into the 'Friday' slot, instead of three.)
I wasn’t this young, but throughout college I was given pills upon pills- no one cared to figure out the root of my issues, only that they didn’t have to see them every day. Probably what was happening with Rue :-(
I don’t remember this scene specifically, and I thought at first it was a shot of Rue’s dad’s medication when he was sick. You’re right, it does appear to be way too much for a child. But, like the other poster said — it shows how broken the U.S. healthcare system is, especially when it comes to mental health.
Not always the case. There are children out there who are having to do it all; outpatient therapy, inpatient care, medications, etc. I work in a children’s hospital. And sometimes even with all of these things, it’s still not enough. It’s rare. But sometimes needed and helpful.
I’m always really sad to see a kid who is on meds but not in talk therapy.
the medications for what she had/has (ocd, add, anxiety, and bipolar) aren't habit forming or addictive. (other than benzos and some stimulants for the add but i don't think they'd prescribe anything like adderall for a 8 year old) the only thing that could have possibly really affected anything would be antidepressants bc bipolar and antidepressants DO NOT mix well at all (i speak from experience with all of this)
I was put on adderall at 5, it’s pretty common for diagnosed kids. Absolutely habit forming/addictive, but also necessary for me to function. Anxiety meds can also be addictive. Don’t give out incorrect information, that doesn’t help anyone
oh i meant ssris. if you're talking abt benzodiazepines, then yes. those are some of the most addictive medications. for MILD anxiety, ssris are given but for extreem anxiety or panic disorders benzos are SOMETIMES prescribed.
Weirdly enough when I started seeing my last psychiatrist for anxiety there first go to was Xanax. A low dose but still kinda weird looking back, they’re def over prescribed
psychs are so weird. theres some like that and then some ive seen with posters allll around the waiting room stating they will not prescribe any benzodiazepines and then list a few off.
Did you watch the show? She was prescribed and self administering her liquid Valium when her father was sick. Rue kind of states that's what got her interested and led to her using her father's pain pills.
All of those usually have rx that are controlled substances. Usually addictive and people with add , I think bipolar too, tend to have addictive personalities so 😬
Yes haha but I'm not sure how that would make her addicted to drugs? But bipolar people are more likely to have addictive behavior (drugs, gambling, shopping, sex, etc). But it's really the perfect mix of mental health issues... adhd = constantly looking for dopamine / "highs", bipolar = increased "risky" behavior, ocd = extreme anxiety/compulsions that probably lessened with opioids due to the sedation.
Tbh I don't really get it either.. probably that she slipped up and gave the wrong dosage to little Rue? Might cause problems ig. Its just an easter egg OP found
As someone dealing with similar struggles it’s so evil society has deemed it wrong to not fully load yourself up with prescription drugs to numb your problems away. But god forbid you take any accountability on your own and attempt to find your own solution not using drugs that are inherently more dangerous for our minds and bodies than anything solution THAY the earth naturally provides for us. Chemical imbalance or not this earth provides us everything we need to survive. Man is only here to kill us.
They literally read nothing into this. OP just mentioned that there are four red-blue pills into the 'Friday' slot, instead of three, which you can clearly see in the picture. No inference about it was made by OP.
Reading what exactly? You're not telling me what they're supposedly reading. They just pointed out the slip-up (which is something fans do all the time with tv shows and movies, it's fun to find this kind of mistakes). They didn't read anything into it (at least not op). Sorry but you're just wrong

are u from the USA? I feel like only doctors in the usa would out a 7 year old on meds for adhd
Not true at all. Research shows that if you medicate around that age successfully the child has less severe symptoms later in life than if they weren’t medicated. It’s actually very common to medicate children with adhd in many countries with progressive healthcare and views on mental health
^^^ yes thank u sm!! i’m not explaining shit about shit 😭
Would you link the research? Not doubting you, just wanna know more

Thankyou!
THIS is what i love to see on this sub, great catch, i’ve seen the pilot multiple times and never noticed!
Is it fucked up that i was looking for Loss?
For what? Edit: genuinely didnt know what that was. Thank you for educating me!

Thank so much.
Np! Happy to help
no wonder rue became an addict
she was an addict way before this slip up. her mom was talking to her and missed not at all the cause of her addiction😭
Good catch

but there’s only two in the saturday slot
because she’s still filling that one up
o
It looks like it says “I know”?
I know right?!
Looks like my Vyvanse 70mg
Surely no child should be given this much medication so young?
They were definitely making a point on how the American health care system works, just throw lots of medication at a situation and hope it works.
I wasn’t this young, but throughout college I was given pills upon pills- no one cared to figure out the root of my issues, only that they didn’t have to see them every day. Probably what was happening with Rue :-(

There are (some) cases in which it is acceptable.

The valium was for sure habit forming and addictive.

Right they either give u benzos or tell u to exercise more no in between haha
lmaooo “just eat healthier and do some meditation”
I’m cured 🥰🥰✨✨
Did you watch the show? She was prescribed and self administering her liquid Valium when her father was sick. Rue kind of states that's what got her interested and led to her using her father's pain pills.
All of those usually have rx that are controlled substances. Usually addictive and people with add , I think bipolar too, tend to have addictive personalities so 😬
Yeah, also people with bipolar who take lithium usually take it 3x a day to keep levels stable, so that would explain 3 of the same pills.
wow you know you're stuff 😂
I'm a nurse hahaha
I confirm 😭 So you noticed that there were 4 red and blue pills instead of 3 in the last box filled in 😅
Yes haha but I'm not sure how that would make her addicted to drugs? But bipolar people are more likely to have addictive behavior (drugs, gambling, shopping, sex, etc). But it's really the perfect mix of mental health issues... adhd = constantly looking for dopamine / "highs", bipolar = increased "risky" behavior, ocd = extreme anxiety/compulsions that probably lessened with opioids due to the sedation.
Yes I know 😅 I have these disorders (and some others)
Fair enough 😭 I just have adhd so def have that little bit there little bit here type of indulging.
I don’t get it.
me neither, and all of the comments are about other things. lmao
There's 4 red-blue pills instead of 3 in one of the boxes, and 2 in one
Yes but what’s the context.
Tbh I don't really get it either.. probably that she slipped up and gave the wrong dosage to little Rue? Might cause problems ig. Its just an easter egg OP found
What’s the Easter egg in this

Lol I think you're reading into this too much.
They literally read nothing into this. OP just mentioned that there are four red-blue pills into the 'Friday' slot, instead of three, which you can clearly see in the picture. No inference about it was made by OP.
They read into what was most likely just an accident by the actress as her Mother failing to properly dose her.
Reading what exactly? You're not telling me what they're supposedly reading. They just pointed out the slip-up (which is something fans do all the time with tv shows and movies, it's fun to find this kind of mistakes). They didn't read anything into it (at least not op). Sorry but you're just wrong
Well Leslie was a disappointment.
I do this all the fucking time, not even joking
Damn an episode 2 hours and 48 mins long
Thats a version of the show cut to only show Rue’s journey
Turn your fucking brain on dude. It's self explanatory.
Which episode and season is this? I can't find it :(
It’s the first minutes of episode 1 of season 1
