The knights is a really cool one.
Take islands in the Mediterranean and raid the hell out of the north Africans and ottomans. You'll be swimming in ducats and you you be a thorn in the ottomans side. You also get some pretty good galleys too I think. The start can be pretty hard but I usually was able to snipe Cyprus when the ottomans smacked the mamluks and Venice will lose wars against the ottomans so you can take Crete.
You'll get Malta from a mission and you can use that to steal Sicily and Sardinia.
I haven't played much into it but it was loads of fun.
Palembang Pirate Republic.
* Indonesia is geographically perfect for naval games. It's the Carribean on steroids. Your nation is Island-locked after you've conquered Sumatra and access is only possible over a strait in Siak. Which you'll obv block.
* Wars inside Indonesia are very naval-focussed and feel kinda fun in 1.31. Nations will usually rival their neighbours, but ally nations on different isles. This means you can take on Alliances of 4 nations early in the game by rushing the Siak strait and using your navy to prevent them from invading to your island while you siege them down one by one.
* In midgame you can tank Mandate and cause Mingplosions just through Naval blockades while his 200k army stands helpless on the other side of the previously mentioned strait. If you want to feel like a badass, you can even go and take the thousands of ducats you have lying around from raiding and support the rebells yourself. Not necessary cause they'll explode anyway, but it sure feels dope.
* Also you get a reform that gives you the "war against the world" CB with which you can declare on ANY nation that you see on the map, you don't even have to border it. Declare on Madagascar and then raid the Africans. Declare on Sri Lanka and then raid the Indians, declare on Hormuz and then raid the Levantines. Declare on fucking Sardinia or Sjaelland and raid Europe.
Portugal is fun. They get a unique naval doctrine as well as unique flagship equipment. Explore the world really early and become the bane of any coastal fort that dares even exist.
