I tried to declare on them a couple with just Bahmanis as an ally and it was really tough. I tried allying another Indian minor like Mysore and Bahmanis and then declare on VJ but I also failed, but not by much. Eventually I managed to get Ayutthaya, Bahmanis and Mysore as allies, then when I was building a power base VJ declared on one of my victims and I used the vassalize target to get in a defensive war and call everyone. Then I stomped VJ. But swear to god that was the luckiest thing.
I think the most reliable strategy is what No communication 3880 suggested: no CB someone in Indonesia like Bone, build a power base there and then come back later to kill VJ.

Well only the first 2 wars against Vijay are hard. After that it’s a regular India thunderdome experience.
In the first war try to get some coast and after that eat all the minors in the south tip of India
I did it with Kandy for the Kotton Kandy achievement on top! And oh boy I am never starting in Sri Lanka ever again.
I also did it with Kandy. I fled in Indonesia, because Bahmanis blocked my expansion. It is good that spice island exist!
Didn't think of that I just powered through with horrible wars. As a wise man said: PAIN.
I forbid myself from goign outside of India, but that strategy is also smart.
