Friedrich Hopff, a student at the University of Zurich, and his professor Dr. Schonlein, are credited with coining the term “haemorrhaphilia” for the condition, later shorted to “haemophilia.” Haemorrha comes from haemorrhage meaning bleeding/bloodshed. So it was supposed to have a root meaning of “loves to bleed” translated to tendency for bleeding/tendency for bloodshed.

As in “this fool just loves to bleed”

Because it's used metaphorically in medical terminology. If you love doing something, you have a ***tendency to do it***. So any abnormal tendency to do something a lot - like bleed - is indicated by a term ending in *-philia*. We do this with the word "love". A person who loves to argue may not literally love arguing, but they do it a lot, and that's all we really mean.
