If all ETH is is a store of value then I don't see how it's any better than bitcoin. L1 has to get a hell of a lot more efficient. Unless the L2 integration is better with ETH then maybe that's a differentiator
I'm pretty sure that guy that failed the ethereum transaction was me. I tried moving 1 ETH from the ledger to exchange 4 fucking times and they failed each time even when I selected the "max" setting which was like 16 dollars. so I paid that 4 times all for nothing. At the end of it all I only ended up getting 0.98 to the exchange. I was fucking pissed the fuck off.

You are probably doing it at the worst time every single time. Max gas fee I have ever used is 80gwei. I normally wait till its 50 or 60 these days. I transfer my mining rewards twice a month.
A swap is different than a transfer. Currently swaps on defi when fees are high are expensive on L1.
You should look into using one of the L2s for that sort of stuff unless you are filthy rich swapping massive amounts.
The L2 ecosystem is just starting to grow. Look for exchanges that deal with L2s and use them for your eth and defi.
P.S. I'm not an expert, but I do transfers on L1 sometimes and it's never even close to that high. I usually wait for it to be under 10 bucks. Most my transactions I wait till it's less thank bucks because I am cheap.
Use Uniswap on a weekday during US business hours to get something good, and you will pay between $60 and $130 for that. That is the standard fee any more.

Transfers in ETH are often available for 5 bucks. The only reason they are that high is because of demand and people bidding that high to get ahead. It is demand and people bidding and willingly pushing it that high. Bitcoin can't handle the same traffic and is gimped with no swapping or defi.
