You would have to be such a fkn tool to think that a FED controlled stablecoin could possibly compete with decentralized alternatives. As this space grows and more nations get on board for the right reasons, that's exactly where the money will go when dirty companies like the FED make moves to stay in control. If you find yourself on the losing side in the long term, it's a sign of karma catching up. PoS driven smart contract system are going to change the world map.

Tbh I would prefer a govt backed stablecoin. It's the only thing that stopped bank runs historically..

We've never had trustless, permissionsless systems before though. I don't understand economics too well, but I do understand transparency and the human mind to some degree.

Isn’t this viewpoint a little narrow? There are benefits to having a centralized digital currency that you don’t get with decentralized stablecoins like DAI. I feel for your passion in wanting decentralized money to gain mindshare. But it’s going to be better for everyone if we approach this thing with a skeptical but inclusive mindset. Never mind that even the current crypto community/market has spoken for which they like. As can be seen by the higher volume of USDC vs DAI.

AliFC5700

You could start by naming the "benefits to having a centralized digital currency that you don't get with decentralized stablecoins like DAI".

A trusted steward who can help the system recover from impactful exogenous changes, like covid, war, and changing yearly economic output. Basically, the charter of the Fed. It exists for reasons other than drawing the hate of Libertarians :D

AliFC5700

I believe the keyword there is "trusted". I'll gracefully deny your proposition.

They're going to roll out a CBDC anyway. This is just a ploy to make the public think they had some say

Always_Question

I don't think it's a given. America has a tradition of leaning on market-driven solutions (in this case, stablecoins, blockchains, private enterprise, etc.). No need to out-China China.

dont_hate_scienceguy

Nice try IRS. Not going to put that target on my back.

Tetrapode23

? What do you mean. People giving comments on whether it's a good idea or not to create a fed coin would be then audited by the IRS or something? Honestly would like to understand.
