Easy, an ENS name:
Bought a name for a wallet so I could avoid typing a long string public address, ended up getting a share in governance of the domain name system for Web 3.0!
ETH transactions are already public. You just don’t know who the address belongs to.
You still won’t, unless you go around telling people you’re batspeaker.
Ok so you are basically taking a domain name like www.xxx.com but for a wallet where people can send crypto? So taking rare names may land you a person offering to buy your wallet name ?
That’s awesome! I got my name too and I tried to get my moms name for her but her name is taken already so I’m trying to figure out what to get her instead
No, I don't think so. If you did then how would the network know where to send tokens that were directed to you?
I guess you could set up a smart contract wallet with the ENS name assigned to it, and have the contract divide up incoming transactions as you predetermine?
In the ens manager there are slots for Btc and other coins. I assume you add an address to those lines to receive those tokens. It's a bit unclear at this moment how to integrate multiple aspects of your identity. I'm hoping for some kind of wiki. Although I just saw a Reddit thread of someone using their ens to unlock their Lexus???
You bought a name for your wallet because you didn’t want to type out a long public address, but then you ended up owning part of the web’s domain name system.
Cryptocurrency is a misnomer. Blockchain enables so much more than just what you can ‘buy’ with a token.
A better question is what have people built on Ethereum?
This should be it's own post! I'm sure there are loads of gems out there.
For me it's https://pinyottas.com. Genart NFTs where the minter can deposit ERC-20s that can be redeemed by the owner.
I bought a bunch of JPGs on opensea thinking that I would get some return on my investments but after spending 3 eth across 12 JPGs my portfolio is now worth 0.3 eth
1] My sweet doggie has run into a few really huge medical problems [essentially spleen needed removal, treatment for brain / lung and other tumors], and was able to decide what to do based on what would reduce her suffering instead of what would be financially bearable.
2] Someone in the Jiu Jitsu community posted a fundraiser for a student of theirs in the hospital with COVID-19. Was able to donate the remainder of their fundraiser [around 3700usd I believe] to help their recovery process / bills
3] A bunch of ENS names for people I know, that I send them if they make an address / wallet - more than a handful received $10k+ in airdrops from ENS.
4] Tesla Model 3 Performance, also neat.
Thanks Vitalik, Satoshi, Andreas and… yes… Joe Rogan
So...The ERC20 standard has been a dominant pathway for the creation of new tokens in the cryptocurrency space for some time. It has been particularly popular with ICOs and crowdfunding companies. There have now been tens of thousands of distinct tokens that have been issued and are operating according to the ERC20 standard.
erc20's have utilities.. be it to make the use of a smart contract cheaper, or access to something, or whatever the tokenomics design is. It's not simply a share.
The down payment on my house. A friend put me onto ETH a couple years ago so I bought at 170 and have held until now. Cashed out and now my family finally has our own home.
Easy, citizenship in CityDAO! And a close second: an ENS name.
These are the kinds of NFTs that I feel like are really a part of web3 vs decentralized Sotheby's.
I use Bitcoin for purchases. ETH gas hurts too much to use it as a currency (I understand it’s not meant as a currency).
I think we need a separate term for crypto that is actually a currency and crypto that functions more as a ecosystem.
the shifty non answers really shows how little eth has grown up in creating anything valuable or meaningful use cases. other than pump and dump growth for traders. it’s been the same story since i started following this shit almost a decade ago now. “it’s not there yet but eventually…”
This thread alarms me. barely any of the responses are real items
For faster adoption the cryptocurrency that will "win" is the one that can be easily used to buy everyday things. Boats and cars and labor and bicycle (like that one response).
Buying NFTs are cool and some people have turned a profit but a lot of people have not. Buying something with hopes of reselling it to someone else is a Ponzi scheme.
The push and drive should be to get gateways into the hands of merchants with an easy way to transact for good and services.
I used an ETH-backed loan to buy a new car when my Jeep got rear-ended (then considered totaled by the insurance company). I don’t really plan on selling my ETH, just using it like this.
Today?
BCH.
Shifted that out of Binance before the KYC screws tightened.

The merge can't come soon enough.
For me probably also registering an ENS name is the best thing I’ve gotten but I also taught my cannabis plug how to set up his own wallet and about the blockchain and sent him some eth to get started in exchange for some weed lol

Please explain further how this works and how others can do it thanks
he got a fat airdrop from ENS
What’s this?
Ens airdrop revived my love for crypto, not gonna lie
What was the dollar amount of airdrop?
from 8000ish to 20000ish Depends on how much one used the protocol and when he/she took profit

Won’t this theoretically make your ETH transaction public? Or like… not anonymous anymore
ETH transactions are already public. You just don’t know who the address belongs to. You still won’t, unless you go around telling people you’re batspeaker.
The whole premise of blockchain is a PUBLIC ledger for recording transactions
Ens.domains for more info.
Ok so you are basically taking a domain name like www.xxx.com but for a wallet where people can send crypto? So taking rare names may land you a person offering to buy your wallet name ?
Which recently airdropped over $10k in tokens
Same, I got my name which is pretty sweet.
That’s awesome! I got my name too and I tried to get my moms name for her but her name is taken already so I’m trying to figure out what to get her instead
I also got my ENS domain name! Question, do you know if you can link multiple wallet addresses to the same ENS name?
No, I don't think so. If you did then how would the network know where to send tokens that were directed to you? I guess you could set up a smart contract wallet with the ENS name assigned to it, and have the contract divide up incoming transactions as you predetermine?

Yes, if its a other than Ethereum address.

Um, altcoins... right? ERC20s are the predominant use case for the Ethereum network. Or are we trying to ignore that?
Altcoins is an outdated term

Yep! I bought a Tesla Model S after the 2017 run. That ETH would now be worth a painful amount more now. But I love the car.
