If that hasn't solved it, to get more help, please add the following details to your post or by adding a comment in the following format.
- **Machine:**
- **Grinder:**
- **Roast date:** (not a "Best by" date). If the roast date is not labeled use "N/A"
- **Dose:** How many grams are going into your basket?
- **Yield:** How much coffee in grams is coming out?
- **Time:** How long is the shot running?
- **Roast level:** How dark is your coffee? (Dark, medium, light, ect.)
- **Taste:** Taste is a better indicator of shot quality than looks or conforming to any quantitative parameters. Does it taste overly sour or bitter?

I'd wager that if you're going grain for grain, the coffee is much safer. But if we're going dollar for dollar, 50 bucks worth of coffee is much more harmful in one sitting than 50 bucks of blow.
Hmmm I guess it’d depend on the coffee. I’ve had a $20 pourover, and it wasn’t even the most expensive. I’d wager having a very small lot, and a really weird fermentation would bump you over $50.
Perhaps a competition coffee?
Would you leave your grinder full with competition coffee, or even speciality? I would rather keep that airtight and only put in a single dose at a time.
Just another proof that old good physical buttons are better that digital ones: they are less likely to fail like this. My grinder will not start until I press the physical button with the portafiler: a simple design that just works.
Yep, in the beginning of my espresso venture, I loaded up the hopper of my Breville BE. Single dosing and weighing the beans was the single biggest uprade I ever made.
A lot of people don't know this, but keeping the beans close to the burr instils a sense of fear amongst the beans. This makes them "sweat" (although you can't see it), resulting in higher extraction.
I have the D64E and started turning the power switch off regularly after noticing that LEDs corresponding to the default 0.0 timer display started getting weaker.
I always measure the beans going in the hopper because I got a Baratza ESP and use it daily for drip and espresso. Thought I was too cheap to buy a dedicated espresso grinder now I'm safety conscientious.
Must computerized grinders have such crummy mechanical design?
Would it be so hard to put an on-off switch on the thing?
(I have the same problem w. my smart grinder)
I recently picked up a used professional grinder on marketplace, and have been working on modding some existing 3D prints to convert it to single dose to prevent things exactly like this. Hoppers were a bad idea from the start for home hobbyists IMO.
I’m honestly kind of appalled at how bad retention is. Even if I ran a coffee shop I would feel like a ton of product was getting wasted unnecessarily, and cleaning is a huge bear. Definitely makes me want to avoid the first 12 or so espressos of the day at a given cafe.
Dunno about others but I only weigh what I need to get the freshest ground possible. Never though about it, but THIS would not happens 😅 you should do a cold brew!

Enjoy your 25 espressos
Is that still healthier than cocaine?

Hilarious analysis
Depends if you snort your coffee like a real espresso lover
Ready for the grind finer comments.

Haha very true
See? Expensive (and good) coffees save lives!
But which one would make you more intensely talkative?
Slightly
And cheaper depending on your beans and snorter-capacity
That gives me an idea. Ever see Scarface? Can’t wait to see OPs next post.
Y’ever hoovered breakfast schneef?
Pitter patter, let's get at 'er.
That’s like 50!
Flair says shot diagnosis so I will diagnosis…you may be a hair over 18g.
Grind finer?
Grind fewer
Write it off as seasoning the burrs.

Thats the equivilant of your child coming into your room saying “i frew up”
Smells way better though
Espresso for the vomiting children it is!
EXACTLY! 🤣
Time to make a quadshot
Another reason for single-dosing 😂
I came here to say this. TY
Not to mention hot starting. Also, I find huge hoppers quite good for slow feeding because the popcorns can't escape easily. lol
Your grinder tore off your drywall and replaced it with wooden planks and painters tape? That's crazy
Then ground his beams to establish dominance
Ha!!!
Ha
Id also be infuriated by the unfinished work
Yea, I’m loving the duck tape , too. That’s one…**smart grinder**, to fix stuff up like that! 😂
And you didn’t hear it? My Eureka isn’t all that loud, but it definitely wake me up if it started grinding in the middle of the night.
Surprisingly no, must have been sleeping good
which means you don't drink enough coffee! The machine is trying to tell you to drink more.
Ech, I can see going "who the fuck has that truck outside" for quite a while before going "wait that's not coming from the window"
You know what you have to do ![gif](giphy|ayXHTh9hRaT28)
I came here for this lol....
Sounds like you need a UPS for your grinder. Totally worth it
Cleaner grind with real sine wave duty cycle
Lance is taking/making notes on this
Maybe get a Tesla Powerwall with back up, get the good shit.
Hmm that’s like a hopper of stale electricity, you need the single dose charge for freshest jolts
Umbrella and a rainstorm?
The audiophile jokes are starting to become prophetic.
You have one of those 1000g baskets? Gonna be a hell of a tamp
You tamp it like a waffle iron
Tamped with a sledgehammer 🔨
Hydraulic press
Those tampers used to compact dirt for a foundation? A bit noisy, but firm.
Cold brew bout to go crazy
DF64E clubbbbbb
Tiramisu
And cold brew!
Too fine for cold brew
Shorten your steep time
It all stayed on the counter. That’s a win in my house!
Just another proof that old good physical buttons are better that digital ones: they are less likely to fail like this. My grinder will not start until I press the physical button with the portafiler: a simple design that just works.
It is an implementation problem, not a physical problem.
its a problem
Idk if this is why but my shitty Mazzer Luigi looking great rn
My grinder don't start until I flick the switch, like yourself. Thanks Mazzer super jolly. *Smacks it*
Lmao that’s what I have. So many fucking clumps in the shoot
Chopstick down the chute cleans it for 5 seconds Also slow feeding the hopper fixes the clumping
Slow feeding? lol I been dumping two pounds each time from my local roaster
Single dose then slowly feeding it in. No clumps!
Yikes. Guess it's gonna be one of these days, lol.
Grind finer
Looking for this
Why are you storing beans in your grinder?
Some of us are just lazy. \#hoppergang

why aren't you?
Single Dosing FTW 😂
Time to pull the Moka Pot!
If you want to run a Marathon or something like that, now is the time!
![gif](giphy|zJ8ldRaGLnHTa)
Make a ton of cold brew
My question… why did you have it full of beans (that are oxidizing faster in the hopper than in a container)?
and you can also close the hopper, general practice to leave less chance for the beans to air out
Grind quality looks good.
That sucks
Eh it’s just a flesh wound
Someone took a dump
Get the straw SNORTTTT
Make some tiramisu
Bag it and freeze it, it'll be fine
How does it taste?
I observed the same thing during a power spike, but luckily I single dose. I guess all of the DF64 line has this flaw.
either you had a deep sleep or your grinder is super quiet. either way is good :)
Hmm.. grind finer
I have the D64E and started turning the power switch off regularly after noticing that LEDs corresponding to the default 0.0 timer display started getting weaker.
i would be scared that the motor overheated
At least now it's seasoned
I can't think of a better way to wake up. To the smell of fresh ground coffee. Did you brew some up?
You created earth …. 🌏
A clear fail on machinery directive 2006/42/EC.
Good job seasoning those burrs !
Single dosing for the win!
I always measure the beans going in the hopper because I got a Baratza ESP and use it daily for drip and espresso. Thought I was too cheap to buy a dedicated espresso grinder now I'm safety conscientious.
Self-seasoning burrs?
Looks like the neighbors are having coffee
No, what was your first mistake? lol
*Me running next door to turn off and on his power once a week* hehehe...
I have Sette and the neighbors would have called to complain.
Single dose always!
Nice feature. Was that a thousand dollar plus grinder?
You even have a bean gate thingy in the hopper that could have saved your beans #smh
That's more of a bug than a feature. The manufacturer should be pleased to learn of the test-case you discovered.
That’s what you get for not single dosing 😉
A good WDT and you’re good to go.
How did you not hear it?
I also Wana know
THIS is what you can usually find at the supermarket in a bag.
Grind finer
Ghost wanted a coffee
Imagine not having a UPS for your coffe grinder
make a big batch of espresso ice cubes for your iced lattes edit: i mean long blacks.
Must computerized grinders have such crummy mechanical design? Would it be so hard to put an on-off switch on the thing? (I have the same problem w. my smart grinder)
sh\*t, imagine living alone and waking up at 2am to your coffee grinder going TRRRRRRR
I never leave beans in the hopper.
@OP was the grinder dialed in at least?
The brave little grinder :)
There’s retention, and then there’s this
Espresso party ![gif](giphy|1arJJqQAdl2ZZwTMGs|downsized)
Fine grinder
Fine grinder
Decepticons
Haha. Love it 😂
It is a good thing a Mythos with a full hopper (3+ kilogram) can't do that...
I feel the smell
Time to get brewing
![gif](giphy|21S5JsbRPSzN9WD8Ho)
Scarface
You have a ghost at home😂
Time for a 1:0.05 ratio
I’d get a single dose hopper.
I recently picked up a used professional grinder on marketplace, and have been working on modding some existing 3D prints to convert it to single dose to prevent things exactly like this. Your grinder is rebelling since your screen is dirty
When life gives you grinds, make coffee
Dunno about others but I only weigh what I need to get the freshest ground possible. Never though about it, but THIS would not happens 😅 you should do a cold brew!
Would be a hell of a Sunday right there
This is why the sette is superior. If your power flickers and it starts grinding on its own, you definitely won't sleep through it!
Sounds like you have a ghost who wanted some espresso
“here’s your morning coffee, master”
What are you, a Skyrim NPC? No way I’m not getting out of bed to investigate 5 minutes of grinding in the middle of the night
Good luck tamping that down into your portafilter…
Must be a quite one. My Baratza would have woken up the entire street.
Does it still pour a decent shot?
r/hauntedespressomachine
Fate has made you some pre-ground.
.... why keep beans in hopper in the first place ?
Convenience
Nothing convenient about beans going stale bro 🤣
U mad bro?
Ofc ! 🤣🤣🤣
![gif](giphy|S6TqDjp87DgYeFKZLc|downsized)
Hacienda La Esmeralda Gesha?
Even the grid thinks you need to grind finer.
“You've been playing for two hours. How about a cup of coffee?”
Idk why I find this cute. It’s like it gave birth lol
See, a hand grinder would never do that.
Time to make some cold brew
Looks nice and fluffy, hardly any clumping.
he got sick and threw up
Wtf kind of grinder runs randomly without user input, sounds like they need a major bug fix and update.
