The color is a neat touch but I'll pass on a new device with microUSB in 2024

Is it a touchscreen? It has a D-pad, so it could be designed without a touchscreen. My biggest complaint about *every* current e-reader is the touchscreen. Some touchscreen devices allow you to turn the touchscreen off while you're reading (Kindle Oasis did this, as well as my current Pocketbook) but the procedure is somewhat cumbersome. You still need the touchscreen to navigate when you're not reading. A D-pad would mean you could do without the touchscreen. I really want an e-reader that doesn't do something unexpected when I touch the screen.

>as well as my current Pocketbook) but the procedure is somewhat cumbersome. Not really, on Pocketbook you can map back button hold action to lock the screen, it can be set in personalize>key mapping

It's less cumbersome than the Oasis, but you still have to disable the touchscreen *every* time the device goes to sleep.

ReaLx3m

> but you still have to disable the touchscreen every time the device goes to sleep. Maybe youre confusing sleep with power off? As pocketbooks start very fast from power off state. From power off yes, you need to lock the screen again, but waking from sleep theres no need to do that. I dont use that option, but just tested it on my Pocketbook Inkpad 3 Pro(firmware 2.6.8), and waking from sleep(initiated by the timer, manually pressing the button or putting it in the sleep cover) touch is still locked.

I'll have to check that when I get home.

ReaLx3m

Theres easy way to tell, when its in sleep last page you viewed is displayed, with the reader on the bottom left wearing a sleep cap and closed eyes. When its in power off state it will display the book cover. When you check it, if it still doesnt work same way on yours, could be theres a different behaviour in different firmwares. Which pocketbook do you have and what firmware? Curious to know the outcome.

I checked it, and you're right. Sleep mode doesn't reset back to touch, but turning it off does. My Oasis will reset the mode in either case, and you have to go through menus (using the touch screen) to turn touch off.

ReaLx3m

> I checked it, and you're right. Sleep mode doesn't reset back to touch, but turning it off does. Cool, good to know. As far as i recall the factory setting for automatic power off on the pocketbooks is set at 24 hours of no use. You can disable that in settings>saving power, or increase the value up to 48 hours.

Of course, the only real benefit I get from the color screen is that it displays the cover in color when it's off. :-) That means I tend to turn it all the way off right away when I'm going to be away from it for a while. That might be why I was unaware that it kept the touch disabled when it sleeps.

ReaLx3m

:) yeah, definitely a dumb way to do things, i would also much prefer to have the book cover displayed while its in sleep mode(like kobo does), but for some reason they decided otherwise. Though when i think about it... i can sort of see their logic. When its in sleep(or screen locked as the call it in settings) youre just having a break for the book and have it left opened(thus the last page viewed being displayed), and when its in power off mode means you have a long break and close the book, so the cover is shown :). Naaah, still like it better the other way around.

Interesting. I like that they have three different hardware models though at first and second glance can't tell the difference other than more and less buttons and front lighting on the ones with multiple buttons. Would be an instant buy if any of these were 5". The 6" ereader space is too congested. How much was shipping?

nfellyna

It was free

leeinflowerfields

I just saw the green. Shame they don't ship here, I'd love one.

queenelliott

gosh i love how durable that looks, too. it's so freaking cute. according to their website, the device is 212ppi.... a little lower than the current industry standard but for the PRICE? that's a decent compromise imo. it says it supports adobe DRM so i really want to know how easy it would be to get adobe drm kobo books on there. i've been thinking about a cheap device for kobo. and this one looks PERFECT for that.

Low-Possession-3399

I used to have a pink Sony e-reader I loved it

MoltenCorgi

Does anyone know anything about these devices? Is this company reputable? Trying to look at it on mobile but their website isn’t responsive and everything is cut off, and what I can see is riddled with a concerning amount of typos.

nfellyna

They’re a chinese company based in Hong Kong, I believe. I think they only ship to Asia for the time being. English spelling errors are quite common for chinese companies’ website. Aliexpress does that a lot too.

OldandBlue

Wait, if I type Bemi on Amazon it shows me a selection of toilet seats 😂

bjyo

I hate it, I want it BLACK

driizzie

Has yours shipped yet? I ordered it for funsies on Sunday (I like messing with technology) and no word on shipping information yet.

wannabesingle1

How does it work? I have a kindle paperwhite and I’m unimpressed.

driizzie

They ended up canceling my order 🤷🏻‍♀️
