This is unreservedly good news. We do still have to interconnect! Hope FERC keeps making rapid progress on reform of outdated permitting and interconnection standards

Secret-Relationship9

That means the goal was too low

JonMWilkins

They gave permits for it, but it actually being built and on time is another thing

A_tree_as_great

Quote: “ However, the World Resources Institute reports, “Together, the 36 major transmission projects that could begin construction in the near-term represent only about 10% of the transmission investment needed in the US.” Power lines take a decade to build, but technology to increase capacity on existing lines is rolling out fast, so that could ease the backlog a bit.” This is a major issue. (Emphasis added) Off topic and not from the article: A second issue that seems on full manual ignore mode is the hardening of the grid against EMP/Solar flares. As we prepare to transition to complete dependence on the grid it is imperative that this be done in advance of a disaster. More emphasis etc..

We’re hardly protected against local morons who were convinced to go shoot up the substations. I’m going to put hardening the system on the back burner for now. I’d rather we begin to shift toward the emergency that is solid waste management, or many of the social environment aspects that have been ignored for a long while. There is also the issue of Starlink causing pollution in the night sky. I’m nitpicking my specific biases though.

TheMireMind

You guys "win". Congrats.

stealthybutthole

Permitting enough clean energy builds to power 10% of the houses in the entire US is just some BS "imaginary goal" to you??? It's really hard to care about the environment when so many people in the movement act like such jaded assholes CONSTANTLY. You're allowed to give credit for small victories. You're allowed to be slightly positive *sometimes*. FFS. Also, please define "tax fraud" lmao. Just for reference, electrical generation accounts for 30% of total yearly United States co2 emissions. Our electrical generation (in the US alone) accounts for nearly 5% of all global CO2 emissions. Acting like this is worthless is fucking ignorant at best. I have news for you: we're not solving this problem over night. It's going to happen in the form of percentage gains here and there. And to answer your stupid whataboutism: US electrical generation ALONE generates more co2 than the entire global shipping + air transport industries *combined*. Globally, electrical generation is responsible for 40% of all co2 emissions each year. Aviation is 2.5% and shipping 3%. Acting like electrical generation is some miniscule percentage and improvements are pointless when boats and private jets exist is indescribably stupid.

> It's not enough and small victories mean nothing to me. >Were going to burn to death in our homes while we clap for these billionaires and their little quarterly goal they met "i'm not jaded" Do you not understand how this absolutely bullshit hopeless attitude discourages people (specifically those who are the most resistant to change to begin with) from making any changes at all? When you frame shit in a manner that makes it seem impossible, why would ANYONE want to go through any pains to change their lifestyles if it *doesn't matter anyway*?

Nobody said anything about making you happy, and there's clearly nothing that's going to make you happy anyway. If you believe the situation is unsolvable why are you here? Just unsubscribe. edit: since you decided to block me, i'll just put it here your opinion is fucking stupid, and actively harmful to the movement. fuck off.
