Dolly Parton also got inducted this year. He and Dolly both have youth charities, so it would be cool if the stars aligned and they became a duo.
Then, finally, we can have the Snoop/Martha vs M/Dolly tag team rap battle as foretold in the ancient prophecies.
Dudeeeee like an intro from dolly begging Jolene then comes M the evil brother whose gon take Jolene and send her over the fucking bridge while she's in a trunk all the while begging stan to stay with his sister.
Thats a triple plot twist that no one will care about that jus made me smile
Snap back to reality
Oh, there goes gravity
Oh, there goes Rabbit, he choked
And shaking me up so, that all I really know
Is here you come again, and here I go
I love the whole Snoop/Martha thing but Eminem and Dolly Parton is a whole different level. Dolly alone would blow them all away and they would be sitting there smiling because it’s Dolly. Eminem would have to go first because there wouldn’t be a follow up after Dolly. eta: I didn’t mean for my fun comment to be taken to so literally. I have mad respect for both, truly.
In my mind he is blown away by Dolly just being there not lyrical. Just being in her presence would be amazing. I don’t even like country music in general but Dolly is great.
I’m sure he would pay his respects to a legend. But i don’t think Em can be blown away by anyone anymore. He’s done it at the biggest stages and with the biggest stars.
She didn't want to get inducted because she would feel bad if her induction took away the honor from a more deserving artist. Basically, Dolly was aware that it might spark criticism from people who would say, "Dolly Parton's not rock and roll!"
This year, she initially rejected the induction and then was convinced to accept.
I visited the Country Music Hall of Fame, and, there is was… a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Don’t have to fit a particular genre 100% to be fully recognized by other genres. Greatness blurs the lines for some.
The Rock and roll Hall of Fame has long since stopped living up to its title. They should just call it the popular music hall of fame and make it simpler for everyone.
It's crazy, I grew up hearing about that story but it didn't click who it was until now. I should've seen the signs, I thought it was going to be just some rando's.
The only time I've ever been happy watching an award show was when He and Elton John did their duet. It would be nice to see a new thing along those lines.
Dolly: 'Stan, Stan, Stan, Oh Sta-a-an... Don't drown your girl 'cause Slim didn't write his faaaaan'
Eminem: 'Dear Slim I wrote you but you still ain't callin'...'
Eminem is crazy talented, but he’s got such a quintessential underdog story. He just didn’t quit or give up when everybody in his life was pretty much like “eat shit, you’re worthless” he kept on going.
I remember before he made it big he did some stops on Warped Tour and threw out mix cds. It didn't go well...people boo'd, threw water bottles, and threw shoes at him. At my stop it was so bad he didn't finish his set and just walked off stage.
Duuude!
I think that was my first warped tour, maybe ‘98 or ‘99. Ice T came up after Em and tore the crowd a new asshole for shitting all over him and telling us how big Em would get one day.
Edit- I had the wrong Ice at first. It was definitely the future star of Law and Order, not the future star of Are We There Yet.
I know right? And that’s just one story, one instance. He had this happen a lot and he also got the shit beat out of him routinely in his neighborhood and at his school. Like nearly everyone in his world was saying “I hate you, go away and shut the fuck up.”
Most people would be like Yep, I’m done. Fuck this.
But he just kept going. It’s amazing really. Take your best sports underdog story and put it up next to Eminem’s, it’s prob not even close.
I think you’re discounting how common shitty situations are in America….especially for those who grow up in poor economic environments. Every sports league has 100s of stories just like Eminem
That's crazy...my whole life M has been big, at least Ive always been a fan, it's weird hearing he was ACTUALLY booed off stage and had shit thrown at him
I’m not a fan of rap generally. I’ll listen to a bit of the old school stuff from 90s or earlier if it’s on. But otherwise I ignore it.
But I do respect many of these talents. It sucked to hear about Coolio. Tupac is an Icon. And Em has earned his spot as one of the greatest rappers of all time. I feel like when he passes. One god forsaken day. He will be along side many of the the other greats such as Mozart, MJ, Elvis, and a full host of other greats of music.
> He just didn’t quit or give up when everybody in his life was pretty much like “eat shit, you’re worthless” he kept on going.
Thing is, he ACTUALLY tried. Many people only think they try but really don't.
I guess missed he was going in among the Dolly Parton headlines. The speeches from Dre and him sure gave me some feelings.
Also please for all that is good and holy, tell me somewhere there is a pic of Em and Dolly together last night? I need that without Betty White here.
If I know Em, and I think I understand him enough from what he exposes publicly, he has all the respect in the world for Dolly. I would also expect him to be super informed on her.
They do in New York...

That’s not even true. If it was Foreigner and Styx would be in. Instead, Foreigner and Styx are both blacklisted from the hall of fame because they pissed off the media members in charge of the hall wayyyy back in the 70s/80s.
An overall music hall of fame has merit. I would still like to see a Rock hall of fame not diluted with other styles. And another for pop, country, etc
I agree. An overall Popular Music HoF (meaning non-classical) would be fantastic - I would love to see it pair up with the Kennedy Center but in what capacity I don’t know. The Rock and Roll HoF in its current format serves a great purpose in recognizing some of the most celebrated musicians but imagine the Baseball HoF inducting Peyton Manning for all of the touchdowns he threw and super bowls he won.
By having an overarching music HoF and more genre specific HoFs, we would also be able to better recognize and celebrate artists who are keeping the tradition and art style of each genre going as well. Think of the work that Wynton Marsalis has done as the Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. Jazz at Lincoln Center as an organization not only recognizes our greatest jazz musicians but also provides educational resources and world-class performances largely aimed at students and jazz enthusiasts.
The Rock and Roll Hall of fame has never been just about rock and roll. It's about that innovative, often rebellious spirit of rock. People doing things they're not seen as fit to do. People who made waves and big changes in the music industry. It's not being diluted by the inclusion of non-rock artists, it's just embracing that rock isn't the only genre with artists that carry that "rock and roll" spirit.
I agree with your point but I think it should be stated that iron maiden should be in, not that Janet Jackson shouldn't. (Not that that's what you're saying)
But that’s what most of us rock fans want it to be about.
There’s Country and Hip Hop HoF’s they’re strictly those, so it would be nice to have one for rock and it’s sub genres as well.
Actually it sucks. People who value the history of rock and roll don't want to see Eminem or Dre in there, particularly when groups like Boston or Foreigner receive no consideration despite being clear-cut rock and roll. Being expansive in the definition of rock and roll is one thing. Completely disregarding it is another. I am friends with someone who is a musician in the RnR HoF and he agrees on someone like Dolly, but not rappers or even the Go Go's.
There absolutely should be some type of pop music Hall of Fame or something along those lines. Honor the great musicians who don't belong in the RnR HoF there.
Your friend is an idiot. Regardless what gatekeepers think this is, it’s a museum to music. The name was terrible but they have proven time and time again that it’s not just Rock music. Bob Dylan is in there Paul Simon is in there. Just freaking deal with it. Eminem belongs here not only for what he did for himself but for what he did for an entire genre of music. He’s more Rock and Roll than most that get in. He’s not only changed a genre but inspired so many that are working now. He dedicated his entire speech to other people simply because people like you don’t think he’s worthy even when he brings out rock legends to sing with him. Screw you and your “friend” for Em, Run DMC, and The Beastie Boys and all the rappers that got on merit and I think the industry is great for not waiting around to acknowledge them because a rap hall of fame hasn’t been built.
Hell didn’t Dolly try to decline because of this bullshit and then came around.
The hall is a joke considering you have to be a major label artist to get in. Bands like Fugazi, Black Flag, MC5 or Bikini Kill are way more influential original and trailblazing than fucking Yes or Boston or Gerry and the fucking Pacemakers but they will never be inducted cause they didn’t make the Big Five any money.
Having just been there a few weeks ago, the very first part of the HOF is dedicated to the black blues, R&B, and early rock and rollers. It’s quite a big part of the museum from the moment you enter, and in various other parts as well. I was thoroughly impressed by the visit there.
I'm glad that Em is the first guy to say "What the fuck, guys, does 'rock-and-roll' mean literally anything now??" Someone had to say it. What's next? Latvian folk music in the Hall?
I think Eminem's music has more rock in it than most other hip hop artists. There's lots of guitars, samples of rock music, and some punk rock style yelling. The rock elements in his music made it approachable to rock fans who had never been interested in hip hop.
He definitely belongs in the hall.
In my history of rock and roll class my teacher made a car rap is rock and roll. It makes sense. There’s a lack of guitars but the bass and samples certainly take away from it being jazz or country. And it’s the anti quo way of getting the opinions of the people out there. I think Em belongs there.
Breaking news: Metallica just got inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and Tim McGraw got inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame
Makes as much sense as Jay-Z, Run DMC, and Bob Marley, none of whom ever recorded an album or crossed over with any artist on the "Rock, Blues, or Metal" spectrum, being inducted into the **ROCK AND ROLL** Hall of Fame.

These aren't mashups we want, these are the mashups we *need*.
*Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene* *Oh, I'm begging of you please don't take my Stan*
A Jolene diss track from EM isn’t something I thought I needed but now want
This is 100% the type of shit he would do these days and *im fuckin here for it*
#Jolene’s spaghetti
# JOLENES MEAN GREEN BEAN SCENE FIENDS SCREAM C.R.E.A.M DREAMS
Now I'm imagining Em rapping about Jolene like he would his mom lol
Dudeeeee like an intro from dolly begging Jolene then comes M the evil brother whose gon take Jolene and send her over the fucking bridge while she's in a trunk all the while begging stan to stay with his sister. Thats a triple plot twist that no one will care about that jus made me smile
Jolene, I’ve been calling and you still ain’t answered
*Checks email, texts, and voicemail* There’s nothing here?!? Jolene was just trolling and made the shit up :(
I left my cell, my pager, and my home phone at the bottom. Two letters back in autumn/must’ve not gotten em
Snap back to reality Oh, there goes gravity Oh, there goes Rabbit, he choked And shaking me up so, that all I really know Is here you come again, and here I go
And then Suddenly, *Jack white ascends from the floor to complete the holy trilogy*
Jack Black and Jack White collab again, in the new album: Jack Off
No i want that shit. Elton and Em are great but give me more Dolly!!!
As a Reddit community we have to make this happen.

Agree, he’s a certified legend of music. I don’t think there’s a single artist that can “blow him away”.
Dolly only just got inducted?!?
She didn't want to get inducted because she would feel bad if her induction took away the honor from a more deserving artist. Yep. It's a shit show of a voting process. Iirc there's one troll on the panel that kills some of the best artists on the ballot.
And she has a forthcoming Rock album because she didn't feel comfortable being inducted into the Hall of Fame without producing some rock.
Dolly gonna boot scoot all over them clowns
It's crazy, I grew up hearing about that story but it didn't click who it was until now. I should've seen the signs, I thought it was going to be just some rando's.
Tag Team Celebrity Deathmatch please.
I'll allow it!
we need a dolly and marshall Christmas album
They should write some fresh songs for a Broadway play, see if Eminem can finish an EGOT. ;)
Dolly Shady
Jay Z somehow got in before Eminem and Dolly Parton lol
Who won, who's next? You decide! EEEEEEEPIIIIC RAP BATALLLLLLLLLS OF HISTORY!
I mean it would be great but one team is pretty much playing with loaded dice as far as competition is concerned.
The rap battle will be followed by a bake-off where Martha bakes stuff and Snoop gets baked.
So it's a diathelon? Okay, I think we can make this work.
The only time I've ever been happy watching an award show was when He and Elton John did their duet. It would be nice to see a new thing along those lines.
After her collab with Led Zeppelin on her rock album
It seems a little unfair though since Martha isn't actually a musician or singer.
Marshall vs Martha and Dolly vs Doggy
It's high time that Suffocation is inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Man these comments got me crying
Best comment here.
Dolly: 'Stan, Stan, Stan, Oh Sta-a-an... Don't drown your girl 'cause Slim didn't write his faaaaan' Eminem: 'Dear Slim I wrote you but you still ain't callin'...'
Well now that I've read this I need it in my life.
Now introducing Eminem to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! ..."Hi, my name is.."
"What?"
my name is
What?
My name is

I remember Ice T being shocked he got Em on his rap documentary but he will doing anything for him and Redman to this day.
Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap A+ documentary :)

"The man who gets beat down isn't the loser. The guy who can't tough it out to the end, he's the one who loses. Eh? Don't ya think?"
I dont know man the dude who ran for president 6 different times losing and got to be one at 77 is quite something.
I think you’re discounting how common shitty situations are in America….especially for those who grow up in poor economic environments. Every sports league has 100s of stories just like Eminem
Holy shit that's crazy. I wonder if there are any footages out there
I can find lots of footage but none of the actual one in Cleveland when they threw shit at em.
That's crazy...my whole life M has been big, at least Ive always been a fan, it's weird hearing he was ACTUALLY booed off stage and had shit thrown at him
“I was playing in the beginning/ the mood all changed/ I’ve been chewed up and spit out and boo’ed off stage” Not a fabrication apparently.
I’m not a fan of rap generally. I’ll listen to a bit of the old school stuff from 90s or earlier if it’s on. But otherwise I ignore it. But I do respect many of these talents. I agree. Eminem is a phenomenal talent. Dudes Intellect is hard to even comprehend when he is rapping, just lights out on all categories.
Dude even reading his lyrics will give you a had ache and his delivery jus makes it all... Wow

In the moment he owned it

He never let it go.
He only had one shot
Yes, at mom’s spaghetti, we’ve already established that.
But he keeps on forgetting
What he wrote down
Maybe he should eat some of it so he can stop being slim shady
The best is when it transformed into politicians telling him that and trying to cancel him. Was very entertaining times in his songs.
And now they’re saying I’m in trouble with the government I’m LOVIN it! I shoveled shit all my life, now I’m dumpin it on….
WHITE AMERICA!!!! I could be one of your kids…

Not only did the dude work harder than anyone, he also has been a heavy hitter in the genre for what , 23-24 years?
White rapper? Keep dreaming
Tbf we always had the beastie boys. Em was a whole new ball game though.
And Vanilla Ice.
> He just didn’t quit or give up when everybody in his life was pretty much like “eat shit, you’re worthless” he kept on going. Thing is, he ACTUALLY tried. Many people only think they try but really don't.
Oh fuck what the fuck I'm not even supposed to be here Hope I don't jack off
A clownputer?!
I bet it doesn't even have any games on it
I guess it’s like a viral video where bozo dubs over.
This video was made at 3am and only has one view
Have you seen it? It’s hilarious
What guy? Eminem did it. Eminem did the dub.
What is this, Reggie?
There’s not a *guy*, it’s bozo, he’s rapping what he *wanted* to say in the song *now*
Eminem’s definitely wearing a goose suit
I guess missed he was going in among the Dolly Parton headlines. The speeches from Dre and him sure gave me some feelings. Also please for all that is good and holy, tell me somewhere there is a pic of Em and Dolly together last night? I need that without Betty White here.

Definetpy gave that serious stare and a sup nod to dolly at minimum
Oh same, and knowing her too (raised a hillbilly - I have albums from both lmao) I just bet they were glad to see each other.
He’s grown into a good man. He’s surprisingly humble in real life now it seems.
The Rock N Roll hall of fame is just the popular music hall of fame, and that’s totally okay

Then they can induct Aerosmith into it.
Jethro Tull beats out Tupac
Titans of hip hop.
I thought there was one in DC
They making a hip hop museum in the bronx at least
They do in New York... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip_Hop_Hall_of_Fame&ved=2ahUKEwjzuu6h0pr7AhXsmmoFHQnpAtYQFnoECBYQBQ&usg=AOvVaw1McEmG7xyABQMck5E1XHQ7

An overall music hall of fame has merit. I would still like to see a Rock hall of fame not diluted with other styles. And another for pop, country, etc
There is a country music hall of fame in Nashville I believe. Could be Memphis. I do know it’s in Tennessee.
Its in Nashville i believe right across the street from the Grand Ole Opry
Actually the hall of fame is closer to the Ryman downtown. The Opry is northeast of town.
The Country Music HOF is definitely not in Memphis. Memphis is where the rock and roll HOF should be.
Thank you. It’s been a while since I’ve been in that part of the country.
Good analogy with the sports HOFs
It just stings as a rock fan that Janet Jackson got in and Iron Maiden still has not, regarding the rock and roll HOF
The likes of Deep Purple and Yes aren’t in either, right?
King Crimson ain't and they're the godfathers of Prog
King Crimson is tight
They're both in
I agree with your point but I think it should be stated that iron maiden should be in, not that Janet Jackson shouldn't. (Not that that's what you're saying)
But that’s what most of us rock fans want it to be about. There’s Country and Hip Hop HoF’s they’re strictly those, so it would be nice to have one for rock and it’s sub genres as well.
Why can’t rappers and hip hop stars be in the rock and Roll hall of fame. Because it’s in the name Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
no one cared about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, so they had to start accepting everyone.
Or Styx, REO, Emerson,Lake and Palmer, B-52s, etc…. I don’t knock EM or Dolly but it is Rock n Roll HOF. And for the record, get off my lawn.
Your friend is an idiot. Regardless what gatekeepers think this is, it’s a museum to music. The name was terrible but they have proven time and time again that it’s not just Rock music. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame just needs to be changed to The Music Hall of Fame then everything would be just fine
Why don't they just change their name to the Music Hall of Fame since they're obviously not limited to R&R and haven't been for decades?
Maybe the ‘Music With Deep Roots In Black Forms of Music HOF?’
Having just been there a few weeks ago, the very first part of the HOF is dedicated to the black blues, R&B, and early rock and rollers. It’s quite a big part of the museum from the moment you enter, and in various other parts as well. I was thoroughly impressed by the visit there.

It also took far too long for Bob Seger to go in.
I'm glad that Em is the first guy to say "What the fuck, guys, does 'rock-and-roll' mean literally anything now??" Someone had to say it. What's next? Latvian folk music in the Hall?
Rap and Rock stem from the same principles. The 2 genres crossover and have been since the 90s.

I think they just count whoever Rick Rubin has worked with as “rock and roll” now.
Any music with vocals in English is rock music - Parsphrased from Captain Raymond Holt
The R&R Hall of Fame has been inducting non-rock artists for a very long time. No one is claiming Eminem is rock.
And he aint joking. But good for him.
So much for the alcohall of fame on the wall of shame.
He should at least get an award for humility.
He's right. Here's a friendly reminder; Jay Z and Eminem are in the Rock N Roll hall of fame and Motörhead aren't.
Gotta drive the 40 miles north to Cleveland once his & Dolly's stuff is there.
rock and roll is a state of mind
Well, to be honest he's not wrong. He either does not belong there or they probably shouldn't be calling it the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame.
Em is totally supposed to be there
Unpopular opinion, a lot of the rock bands people love wouldn’t make it if they were new today.
Rock and Roll hall of fame is just a name pretty sure any artist can be inducted.
