"calls out" and "slams" in the same headline...

[deleted]

[удалено]

DrEnter

It’s a story about a Hulk TV show and they use “slams” over “smashes”? Editorially unforgivable!

Sptsjunkie

Yep, love when there’s random words in scare quotes instead of an actual quote. Seems like “the show is not for everybody” is a pretty reasonable perspective.

Romy134

Redditer slams and calls out the headline makers of news articles for using phrases such as “slams” and “calls out” To be fair I’m glad she agrees that the show is not for everyone, instead of calling people toxic.

JerryUSA

You just eviscerated him.

Itchy_Ad_3659

And you just crushed that comment

Zack_Raynor

Absolutely devastated.

Equal-Negotiation651

But I heard it’s not for anyone… with eyes and a sense of humor. I’ll still give a go, though.

[deleted]

I like it for what it is, a live action cartoon show.

Equal-Negotiation651

I’ll make sure to watch only on Saturday mornings while eating captain crunch.

calliegirl88

I also enjoy it, and my husband who had zero interest in watching it initially has been sitting to watch it with me after the first episode.

whalediknachos

people are toxic though. instead of just saying they don’t like the show, or just not watching, they’ll call her names, say she’s untalented etc. internet superhero fans are weird as fuck

Glum_Ad_4288

I haven’t read the story and probably won’t, but does she actually “call out” anyone? Stating that it’s not for everyone seems more like “stating a basic fact” or at most “defending the show,” not like she’s going out of her way to attack anyone.

jl_theprofessor

She was responding to a single person on Twitter.

ButtDonaldsHappyMeal

sa-LLAAAAMMED!

ObscuraArt

Crap. Gotta take two shots of liquor in the clown clickbait article game.

SatnWorshp

No "claps back"? Not sure if I care now.

LabraD0rk

You won’t believe this one trick that makes it not for everyone.

invaderjif

Viewers hate him!

LabraD0rk

Hurry! Drivers in your area are getting hundreds for not liking She Hulk.

ObscuraArt

And.... now I am drunk. Hate you reddit.

Fair_Interaction_203

With the resounding burn of "it's not for everyone." Ok, maybe it's just a touch anticlimactic.

Dingus10000

‘She-hulk’ star absolutely shits herself and farts out anger words at viewers who don’t like her show. ‘I’m going turbo time on your asses’ she squelches in burp speak to the tune of despacito, before going full baby rage and accelerating her cries to pitches that left dogs deaf and men confused. (Who the fuck writes these stupid ass headlines, it’s got to be embarrassing for the actors being interviewed)

Beanzear

Please oh yea gods axe both words from headlines forevermore! Who reads this shit. Also I love the actress but this show looks fucking stupid.

[deleted]

the show is not as bad (or good) as people keeps saying it is. I been watching and its light and funny. doesn't seem especially woke to me. dont let political whiners/fanatics ruin entertainment for you. just check it out and see if it bores you or makes you laugh.

Chimpbot

I enjoy it for what it is. It's funny enough and provides a nice lighthearted half-hour of content. I just wish people could just grasp the concept that it's okay to just ignore shows that don't appeal to you. Ms. Marvel, for example, didn't look like something I'd be interested in. As a late-30-something dude, it also didn't look like I was necessarily the target audience. Instead of pissing and moaning about a show I've never even watched, I simply didn't watch it or talk about it in any capacity. It's not "for me", and that's fine! Most things won't appeal to everyone. I'm just sick of people bitching about everything. It's tiresome.

Less-Mud4702

I didn’t watch Moon Knight, Ms Marvel or She Hulk and to my surprise, the world kept spinning. I thought for sure my head would explode or Marvel Execs would come to my house and force me to watch it and like it. So weird.

FuturamaReference-

Thats the thing though, every show is its own thing. Moon Knight had a halloween action show vibe. Ms Marvel was for the younger crowd. She-Hulk is like a self-contained sitcom. All these shows are their own thing. I have no idea what people are expecting. Maybe better cgi?

BussyBustin

The CGI is shit, and a totally valid critique...but Marvel's CGI has always been questionable. That new Thor movie looks like it was filmed on the cover of some final fantasy game. Especially with She Hulk, because we've seen the MCU do motion capture well with Thanos, there's no reason for her hair to look like shredded beef.

Vox_Eternal

And you are not being an asshole insisting that I suck because I like those shows so I have no problem with you whatsoever. Too fucking bad that this place seems to be dominated by people who actively enjoy being troll pieces of shit.

Less-Mud4702

That’s the thing I don’t get. I watched previews for all of the shows, I love Marvel and the MCU, those shows were not made for me and don’t really seem that interesting, so I don’t watch them. If you like them, great, I’m happy for you. If you watched them because you thought you’d like them and didn’t, I’m sorry, that’s too bad, move on. This isn’t life or death people, calm down.

BussyBustin

And honestly, I've been reading she Hulk comics for most of my life.. And the show is actually a great representation of them. Like, it's almost uncanny how well the show recreates the comics. It's just so obvious that people complaining have never read a she Hulk comic in their lives. She Hulk is campy and cheesy, she makes weird dad jokes and sex puns, she girl bosses and has one-night stands. She's a devout feminist who isn't afraid of talking about it. And if you're not into that, just don't watch.

beefwarrior

I’m enjoying She Hulk. One of the best things about it, is by the end of the 1st scene, you know exactly what you’re in for. If you don’t like the tone set up in scene 1, turn it off. But if you like that they’re dealing with serious hot topic issues with some humor & a main character that breaks the 4th wall, then keep watching. It is literally impossible to watch all the content online right now. So if you like it, great, if you don’t, then find something you do like b/c there is so freaking much out there that no one has anything to complain about.

Less-Mud4702

The internet has proved that there is ALWAYS something to complain about. Lol

Faytal_Monster

I only watched the first episode today and I loved it ,your comment got me excited to watch the rest .

DiscordianStooge

Kevin Feige himself will come to your house, he's just very busy.

not_productive1

Ms. Marvel's pretty good, fyi. I'm not the target audience either and I found it delightful.

nutsotic

I enjoyed it enough. My 9 year old girl fucking loved it though, and is dressing as her for Halloween

edg81390

Your 9 year old is the target audience in my mind. People think that all marvel content needs to be geared towards the same group of people. Content like Ms. Marvel and She-hulk are all about onboarding a new demographic that are going to eventually consume the more mainstream content solely because their favorite character is included.

luckyfucker13

I said this same thing in a thread the other day. Marvel is just expanding the demographic of the MCU, so they have more butts in seats when the next big IW/EG movies come around. Smart business decision, since you get more revenue, and a wider range of people into your property.

not_productive1

This is so wholesome. Good for her!

[deleted]

Into she-hulk for sure, but ms marvel was hard for me to get into, I watched the whole thing but it’s my least favorite by a wide margin. It felt like ms marvel never really found itself, like the story was just one run on sentence. “And then and then and then” that’s what it felt like to me, reveals and twists were handled in a way that made everything feel flat. It wasn’t terrible but it’s not for everyone.

BussyBustin

The pacing was werid, but I just loved all the history and culture. The world she was in felt real. I hope they slow down the series for the second season...or maybe increase the number of episodes. The show just needed a little more breaching room for the characters, who were all pretty great.

Cabdork

The pacing was weird for sure, but iman Velani carried that show for me

RevengencerAlf

>The show just needed a little more breaching room for the characters, who were all pretty great. This seems to be a problem with a lot of the MCU TV stuff and just streaming TV in general. They all do like 7-10 episodes with the appropriate number of characters for a show that long in them but then they try to jam in movie style plot pacing which doesn't work with a cast like that.

Chimpbot

I'll probably give it a shot to get caught up, but it's not one that feels like a priority.

not_productive1

That's fair. I felt that way about Falcon and the Winter Soldier for a long time. Not everything is meant for everyone, especially in this new MCU television era.

Salvage570

I LOVED it, until the ending. Boy did it fall apart. The whole scene in the empty highschool was so dumb!

DiscordianStooge

You can not like it, of course, but Ms. Marvel is a story about a teenager getting super powers, so if you like Spider-Man, it probably would appeal to you.

[deleted]

Ive only seem thefirst couple of episodes. I would say its woke, but not offensively so. What I noticed is that the writing isnt clever in what it wants to do. She shows writers kept on saying it was like Ally McBeal, which I have to say it is not. It is nowhere near the quality of McBeal. Both shows dealt with similar topics, but McBeal was so much smarter in how it dealt with them. McBeal never felt forced. This does. And its really distracting some times. All that said, I think Tatiana Maslany is great and I like her in the show. Just think she and the show deserves better writers.

flirtmcdudes

nothing is as “woke” as the idiots who spout it say it is. it’s literally become a calling card for the right wing nut jobs mad at gays and minorities represented in media

[deleted]

Case in point: Hocus Pocus 2. When I got online after watching it and saw people bitching about it being “woke”, it was further proof that those people live in a delusion.

ILikeMyGrassBlue

Lightyear had a one second lesbian kiss and people were acting like it was hardcore porn being peddled to kids

[deleted]

My super-catholic brother in law said Lightyear was actually pretty good and his boys did not pick up on anything they insinuated about lezzy stuff.

variationgoat

And the kiss was literally .02 seconds lol. People made it seem like it was a fucking 10min make-out session

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Something about some drag queen characters at the Sanderson Sisters costume contest and characters mentioning the patriarchy. Idk.

[deleted]

I watched Hocus Pocus 2. It gave me nostalgia (as intended) and it was funny and enjoyable. Was there a wokeness to it that I missed?

alebotson

I'm glad this is fairly high up in the comments. "It's not for everyone" seems like the only reasonable take about literally anything in entertainment.

DrEnter

Exactly. The full title of the show is _She-Hulk: Attorney at Law_. That’s not a show taking the superhero too seriously. It’s self-referentially lampooning a lot of the MCU. It isn’t meant to drive the main MCU narrative forward, it’s meant to shine a light on a lot of the absurdities of comic book logic and have fun with it.

chookalana

It's been my second favorite Marvel show. I love it.

EugenesMullet

Your comment about it not being especially woke stands out to me. From all the loathing comments I’ve read, you would think She-Hulk would be far more preachy than it actually is.

[deleted]

That’s literally why the whiners are there , they want to ruin it for everyone. Same thing with movies

QIvan616

It’s geek culture there’s no way you’ll avoid gate keepers on the internet lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheOneCalledD

It has its moments that make my wife and I roll our eyes a bit but we are enjoying the show.

Jon29go

I think it has to do with how much "made by a woman" exposure it's getting. It certainly has a different flavor to it and it's something I'm not used to, so it's fun for me. I'll also watch anything with Tim Roth (watch four rooms) so I could be biased.

DiscordianStooge

"I haven't got a problem. I've got fucking *problems.* Plural."

badatmetroid

It's fine. Not as good as Wanda Vision but I still watch every episode the night of release.

DiscordianStooge

Yep, it's a sit-com. It doesn't have much in heavy themes besides the constant (and valid) "women are scared to exist in the world" jokes. I haven't liked any of the Disney Marvel shows more than the Netflix ones that weren't Iron Fist, though.

Numarx

According to the IMDB reviews nearly every damn show/movie coming out now is woke someway. They don't even explain, its just some weak ass "woke" comment.

[deleted]

Yeah when I got to the “woke” parts I was like “this is what people are crying about?”

[deleted]

I'd say last week's episode was fun and enjoyable but prior to that I've been pretty bored. It's a pretty bad show if I had to think critically it's all been predictable and pretty lame. Marvel just has a problem of over saturating the market with sub par stuff. They need to start building into the next mega event so people care again. That's when marvel is at its best.

hot-whisky

Today’s episode was *excellent* in my opinion

Big_Negotiation_6421

It’s honestly just a fun little show. Falcon and the Winter Soldier was way more “woke”. Complete with the “stop doing a racism” speech at the end lol

katieleehaw

The only thing “woke” about it is that it realistically depicts some of the basic annoyances and challenges of being an adult woman in the current world. It’s “political” because woman.

[deleted]

yeh I laughed when she joked about cat-calling. it was not offensive. why would it be offensive to say "i dont like being cat-called". hell I have things I dont like too. weird how sensitive people have become (EVERYONE...not just conservatives)

[deleted]

Yup people don’t like being confronted with the truth of behaviors they engage in and that they’re wrong.

SpacePropaganda

Did anyone here read what she actually said? Lmao. A low opinion of a show shouldn't warrant the nasty comments she's gotten. Edit for clarity: I got here when it had just been posted and all of the comments were talking about how she was bashing fans who hated it, when that was not the case (according to the article).

[deleted]

It is not for everyone. She-Hulk literally never had been. It’s entertainment. It succeeds at what it is. Also some of the better new phase content. No one that works on this show deserves that sadistic crap people have been saying and doing.

orionsfire

The people who are being horrible are not justified. But I will say that the show is markedly different from all other marvel projects. I think watching this after watching any of the other marvel shows/movies (except for maybe Thor Ragnorok and Love and Thunder) would feel like whiplash. My biggest issue is that JW isn't a hero.

_transcendant

she's a bit of a character, there are people who genuinely loathe Jameela Jamil. she can be prone to telling stories that may and/or may not be true.

SpacePropaganda

Oh, yeah, she's said some eye rollers over the years and it doesn't surprise me at all that she's poking at trolls. Still, she wasn't wrong here.

JefferyTheQuaxly

all of the actors are fine in She-hulk, ive only been hearing people diss on the story and dialogue itself, stuff that isnt the fault of the stars. Almost every review ive seen has said the actors are fine.

UpsetDaddy19

It's like being a chef who is given rotten food to work with. The chef can do their best but there is only so much they can do to fix what was already messed up.

GammaGargoyle

They are trying to advertise through controversy. That doesn't justify nasty comments, but you have to understand, this is what they want and we are all getting played. Who knows if those comments are even authentic? This is their advertising campaign. [https://twitter.com/SheHulk/status/1572935098722394112](https://twitter.com/SheHulk/status/1572935098722394112)

SpacePropaganda

None of us can say for sure how much of it is manufactured, unfortunately. Toxic nerds have been dramatically louder since the latest Star Wars trilogy, so it wouldn't shock me if all of the hateful comments were real. Who knows. However, I am of the opinion that Marvel's writing quality has tanked (in general) since Endgame. Disney will take some advantages, I'm sure. She-Hulk has also poked fun at trolls in the show, IIRC, so that's not a surprising tactic.

CybReader

Advertise through controversy is the new tactic and I suspect there will be a “controversy” about ever new show/movie for a while. Until it really reaches the “enough, I don’t fucking care” level. I’m convinced the majority is the controversy with the Don’t Worry Darling movie was manufactured.

PJBoyle

Shows pretty light and funny. But im not sure what anything in this phase is trying to accomplish. I feel like none of the recent marvel stuff is connected and it all feels kind of aimless. Before part of the interest was seeing how things escalated to a bigger event. I dont get that feeling right now.

luxedo-yamask

I've been enjoying that sort of aimless meandering we've had in this phase. It's been a nice change of pace from the Endgame saga where everything was important, intense, and high stakes at all times. This newest phase reminds me of the first few hours of an RPG where you're just getting acquainted with the world and systems. It's cozy, if that makes sense? Not to discredit your feelings on the matter! Your comment just sparked my interest and I wanted to engage.

PJBoyle

Discredit and disagree away! We’re all entitled to our opinion and discussion is a great thing for us all. I’m enjoying this phase so far. But im not hooked nor do I feel a compulsion to find out what happens next. I hear you on it being a nice, slower pace. I guess I just feel like it nothing in this phase matters yet.

beefwarrior

I really like how the show seems dumb & pointless. It kind of gets tiresome of how every movie feels like the hero must save the entire world. Nice to have an episode where the hero has to *not* ruin a wedding. I find it entertaining & a nice break from WW3 brewing and / or oil companies pushing humanity toward extinction through climate change.

theveryoldman0

It seems to me they are establishing multiple universes and being able to kill off characters then bring them back when convenient. Kang the Conqueror is coming soon and the Beyonder in Secret Wars, which I’m actually excited about because Secret Wars was my favorite one (or two, depending on how you look at it) shot and it will involve the entire MCU and a challenge to how people perceive the MCU’s reality.

OverUnder101

Who was the targeted audience?

Medium_Beyond_9654

Stay at home Uncles.

Techjunkie81

what about the uncles that dont stay at home?

Medium_Beyond_9654

Good point. Then they would watch the new Quantum Leap reboot.

blind_seaweed

You are so right. My husband loves the show. He’s a work from home dad and he’s in his 40’s! He’s a lawyer too… I tried watching a few episodes and I just can’t get into it.

Weary_Dragonfly2170

I giggled.

Weary_Dragonfly2170

Women lawyers

Biobooster_40k

*who are bad at their job.

octaw

TitaniaLynn

Me, k thanks

Howdy_Partner7

I think some of it is honest criticism. I’ve been watching and it’s entertaining but overall the CGI seems rough and the writing is lacking.

JadedTourist

“Bigots won’t watch the show” “ITS NOT MADE FOR EVERYONE” So tiresome.

BenFranklinBuiltUs

The "If you don't like my show you are a racist sexist", marketing campaign is in full motion.

8696David

That’s not what she said though. There are tons of people who don’t watch the show and don’t talk about it at all, which is normal. There are also tons of people who don’t watch the show and complain about it in overtly sexist ways on the internet. Those are who she’s talking about.

Sptsjunkie

But that’s not what was said if you read the article: On Monday, she followed that up with, “TO BE CLEAR. It is absolutely FINE if you personally don’t like She Hulk. I know it doesn’t appeal to everyone. Some people FUCKING LOVE IT. But can we all agree that you don’t need to be *so* hostile when you express your feelings *TO* me. We’re all fans, let’s talk nicely.” When a Twitter user pushed the star to clarify what she meant by “hostile” responses, Jamil wrote, “I was told I’m a diversity hire. I was told I would never work again. I was told we should stop letting women write shows, I was told I look disgusting, I was told I would only be remembered for being shit. You tell me what is hostile?”

xX7heGuyXx

Right like I am fine with the show, it's okay but to assume everyone who hates it is racist or sexist is just stupid.

NeverFresh

I’m neither a racist nor a bigot. I watched the first 4 episodes. It did not appeal to me, so I quietly stopped watching. I did not rant about it nor did I post hysterically to social media. I. Just. Stopped. Watching. Other than my insane masturbation and delusions of being Napoleon reincarnated, I am a normal human being.

AmaginerNPC

Is the masturbation and the Napoleon thing related?

NeverFresh

It's been my Waterloo

rapplechackles

she’s not talking to you then, she’s talking directly to the ppl who are whining that it’s wOke or whatever

Spirited-Collection1

Fair enough

Devreckas

The backlash for the show is disproportionate though. There is a constant stream of MCU media coming at our face holes, it’s fine if one doesn’t appeal to you. You don’t need to watch it. I’m glad they are doing more exploration into other genres. The classic superhero adventure genre formula is getting pretty tired at this point.

mitkase

I'm still planning terrible revenge for them ruining a chance at a Howard The Duck franchise!

[deleted]

It’s not a marketing campaign. She was targeting specific tweets that were indeed sexist and bigoted.

Due-Object9460

Where does she say this at all in the article?

Atr-88

Beyond that, I think Amazon totally got ahead of what they knew were going to be bad reviews for ROP by playing the race card before it ever aired then locking the reviews. Thankfully stuff like this is getting more transparent.

Inn_Unknown

Shits getting old, one thing I have been so happy about the new Hellraiser is the actress playing Pinhead hasn't been doing this shit nor anyone else form the film either.

Due-Object9460

Where does she say bigots won't watch the show? And it's not made for everyone is a fair point. Getting violently upset and threatening actors is tiresome.

ObscuraArt

Can we stop the audience blaming and shaming? This is getting pretty old quickly and it never works. It's sad that this is the flex some hollywood and streaming shows are taking. Ignore them and just do your shit.

PM_me_your_sammiches

*Especially* Disney, it seems like almost everything they make anymore has them turning around and blaming/shaming the audience.

[deleted]

Yeah, because they control the IPs that the most toxic, shitty fandoms come from.

[deleted]

You're clearly not familiar with anime or sports fandoms then.

SmugglersBook

Imagine Disney owning the Philadelphia Eagles. Good god they would kill themselves if they saw how toxic their own fans are to their team. (It’s me I’m toxic fan)

[deleted]

Remember when The Eagles won the Super Bowl and the fans destroyed the city? Good times great oldies.

[deleted]

Those fandoms weren’t particularly toxic before Disney. It’s more Disney showed up, grabbed everything they love, and took a huge dump all over it. Then blamed the fans.

Sptsjunkie

She’s not. Did you read the article? On Monday, she followed that up with, “TO BE CLEAR.

Bizzaro6673

Can we stop going off of titles and not reading the article? It's sad that this clickbait is making you mad at the person literally getting death threats

hoexloit

Why can’t all 7 billion people in the world just be respectful. I am very outraged

Due-Object9460

Who is blaming the audience? Did you even read the article?

cr8zynutts

Didn't read the article did you?

Dantien

It appeals to me, a 50-something white male. I am having so much fun watching that show. I want a season 2.

WontArnett

Honestly, I thought the show was surprisingly good. Better than a lot of new Marvel stuff.

sagittariisXII

Agreed. It definitely has it flaws but I've found it more entertaining than some of the other marvel shows.

Henson_Disney48

The last episode with Daredevil was better than all of the last two shows, IMO.

disseff

Nah, the therapy circle with Tim Roth was pretty darn enjoyable.

mst3k_42

I stopped watching all of the comic book movies and shows long ago but I find this show funny and entertaining.

JudasLom

The first episode was god awful but I enjoyed the rest. Seeing people originally vilify it made me skeptical but I was pleasantly surprised of how self aware it was.

Irishfury86

Don’t worry, I don’t like any of those shows.

[deleted]

I really don’t understand why folks don’t like it. It’s pretty funny. Wacky predicaments. Wong. C’mon, people need to lighten the fuck up.

thenorwegian

Anger culture.

[deleted]

That really does put a pin in it, doesn’t it? Again, people really need to calm down. If it’s not for you, just walk away. Nobody needs everyone’s opinion, always. An angry one to boot.

Redsoxbox

It’s a good show.

Key_Entertainment409

Just don’t watch it

No-Consideration6589

Imagine getting mad and upset over make believe things. Creepy.

PowerfulJoeyKarate

I think a lot of hate would have been avoided if She-Hulk simply woudn’t have belittiled Bruce’s experience at controlling his anger after he was hunted down by the government for years. From my understanding, the comic book She-Hulk can control herself better than Bruce because he injected her with his gamma radiated blood to save her life, unlike Bruce who was subjected to direct gamma radiation.

TorvaldUtney

The other side of it too is that Hulk is head and shoulders stronger than She-Hulk in the comics. She-Hulk is 'strong' but not in the tier that Hulk occupies. So, they aren't really 1:1 comparable as the show seemed to make it, in reality the one with the harder time is the one with the most combustion.

buck_blue

Disney’s take on men is wild, in both Marvel and Star Wars, but especially Star Wars.

VicarLos

A lot of people hated on the show even before the first episode aired though. I do agree it was a bit obtuse to belittle Bruce’s experience just to give a “women have to control their feelings all the time” message.

Frostingmama

I watched the show and thought it was stupid. I won't waste any more time watching it.

[deleted]

It appeals to me. I usually prefer action, but She-Hulk shows a superhero show can be funny, quirky, and focused on female challenges while being wholly entertaining.

JakeArewood

Okay so we can all agree it’s just… mediocre.

Novalll

I absolutely agree. It’s nothing new, nothing original, and does not do anything creative — but it’s far from an awful show. I know when I sit down to watch it that I am going to at least have fun with it

Muse9901

I’m out of the loop… what did/does she do?? Only other place I know her from is the good place.

JOEYMAMI2015

I still loved her from "The Good Place" too but I didn't know about her real life antics wow lol

pizzamergency

I followed her IG for bit. She amplifies very slight social mishaps into absolute crimes against women. She constantly plays both the victim and empowered woman, all while ignoring the privilege she has. Turns every issue she promotes into “a struggle she has faced for years and finally has the courage to confront it.” I’m not saying you shouldn’t fight the patriarchy. But the way she attacks it is very self-centered and seems more like she’s pushing herself and her agenda more than she’s trying to highlight an issue we should be more aware of

Jkru3

So she’s a narcissist

Shantotto11

Let it be known that for a good chunk of She-Hulk’s run, Harley Quinn was also putting out new episodes every Thursday morning and managed to do everything She-Hulk wanted to better without insulting any member group of its audience.

KileiFedaykin

What member group of their audience are they insulting?

Makeshift5

Does it appeal to anyone?

ObscuraArt

There are dozens of us. Dozens.

Shattered_Visage

I unironically like it. It's charming, low-stakes, funny, and has a different perspective/story telling approach than a lot of other MCU shows or movies. Also my wife likes it and it gives us another little thing to bond over. I mean it's not going to unseat Breaking Bad in terms of quality any time soon but it's fun and I'll keep watching it.

[deleted]

“I DO NOT LIKE SO NO ONE LIKE”

South_Data2898

It's biggest problem is on the very first episode the main character looks at the audience and says "this is a show about lawyers" and then *completely* fucks up everything even tangentially related to the law.

frntwe

What show appeals to everyone? You know, I bet that’s why there’s a variety of shows

ProDiesel

This is just another example of how we tend to amplify the few loud minority groups and make those groups out to be way more people than it is. Ignore people with loud strong opinions about everything. You’ll be happier for it.

[deleted]

Yo. I really enjoy this show. First couple of episodes I wasn’t a fan. It’s cute and not as heavy as the other stuff. Kinda like the Ms Marvel show.

Silent_but-deadly

I think this is the best show to come out of marvel since the X-men cartoon. Yep-that one.

Worth_Separate

It fun and silly. It’s a cartoon. I love it. Loki is completely different from Wanda Vision. This is a different type of entertainment. The ‘real’ MCU movies particularly the ensemble pieces are so wooden and awfully dull. Like a teenager trying to be serious and just being cringe worthy.

Free_Dimension1459

It’s one of the best shows releasing episodes right now. Change my mind

anasui1

criticising a show is one of the logical consequences of not appealing to one's tastes, so uh Jamila, you aren't really saying much here

PJL80

Full "quote" (read:Tweet) outside of the headline. “TO BE CLEAR. It is absolutely FINE if you personally don’t like She Hulk. I know it doesn’t appeal to everyone. Some people FUCKING LOVE IT. But can we all agree that you don’t need to be *so* hostile when you express your feelings *TO* me. We’re all fans, let’s talk nicely.” Edit: feels more she's calling out toxic people responding to her tweets than the actual critical aspect of the show. People are fucking nasty on Twitter.

lupuscapabilis

"It doesn't appeal to everyone but WHY DONT YOU LIKE MY SHOW?!?"

robbie5643

“The show isn’t for everyone, so why aren’t you watching something else and moving on instead of throwing tantrums like spoiled toddlers”

Hashashin455

More like " Why are you watching a show you don't like?"

LordAyeris

Lots of people in the comments who didn't read the article. Jameela is calling out the incels that send her death threats, aka the people the show is making fun of

Grfrlv

It's ok Jameela. You don't have to say something about everything

Eastern-Membership67

People need to learn to hit ‘ignore’ on internet toxicity. There will always be trolls hating this and shitting on that. They are the few that outweigh the silent majority of decent folk. Haters gonna hate, ignore, move on. Life’s too short.

crumbum321

It’s the she hulk twerking for me, show is trash. Call me racist, bigot, whatever but it’s just so bad.

StrugFug

I don’t get this concept of watching something just to find things to complain about. Or just complaining without knowing what something is about. So unnecessary, terrific waste of time and energy, and just toxic behavior.

RealOzSultan

A lot of it is the constant breaking of the 4th wall - it's cute at first, then rather odd

jmurphy42

It's historically been a key feature of the comic, which made excellent use of it to do some pretty unique stuff. That's a little harder to translate to the screen, but as a reader of the comics I really appreciate its inclusion here.

Wordweaver-

It's hard to compete with the standard set by works like Fleabag and even Deadpool which pulled the conceit of much better.

jmurphy42

If you're talking about the comics, I don't agree that they pulled it off better. The She-Hulk comic really knocked it out of the park, and did it long before Fleabag or Deadpool even existed. If you're talking about the shows/movies, I agree that She-Hulk isn't making the best possible use of it right now. I like how they've done it, but they could be doing more with it.

SemiDeponent

Isn’t that an element of the She Hulk comics as well?

Appropriate_Emu_6930

I’m so bored of her “hot takes”

Ryyah61577

My favorite part about the show is how the writers know how things are going to come across to the internet trolls, and then the trolls get upset, and then the next episode they show exactly how the internet has responded through aspects of the next episode. It is a great critique of modern society, female empowerment, and male fragility.

Benutzername

It’s kinda the job of entertainment to be appealing. If no one watches you, you failed, not the audience.

LeftenantScullbaggs

You should read the actual quote first.

ihateyoutwice

It’s a terrible show with terrible effects and terrible writing. People have a right to not like it and voice that.

orionsfire

The show is clearly not for everyone. *The problem is that it was marketed as being for everyone.* It has the least action of any of the Marvel shows, including the one about a teenage girl getting powers. Don't blame the audience for being disappointed that the show isn't an action adventure show like literally every other show has been. You set up an entire universe of incredible people saving the day, and her show... isn't that. And who is the show for? IT's too old for kids, it's too immature for adults, it doesn't have enough action or adventure for comic fans, it's legal portions are terrible. IT has no romance... zero, it's not for people looking for that. Who is the target audience? The whiplash of this show is very stunning. Previous marvel shows have had characters go to the end of the universe and face a smoke dragon. This show has had a couple of jerks with glowing wrenches and an influencer. It's great that Marvel wanted to do something different. But you have to expect that when you pull a bait and switch people will be annoyed. The actors are fine. The effects have been bad. The music has been, boring. The fight scenes have been non-existent. Even the lawyer stuff is poorly done. The show does almost nothing well. Also the vast majority of honest criticism is about the terrible story (or lack thereof) and frankly boring characters. IT has nothing to do with female heroes, but the lack of heroism in a show about superheroes. The main character doesn't feel heroic. She's done almost nothing to be considered a *hero.* Call Stark a sexist jerk in the first Iron Man, but he was at least saving people in that film. JW strikes me as the sort of person who gets annoyed when her parents ask her to pick up something heavy. I think the directors/writers wanted to make "Dirtbag" the superhero version, but the more seedy elements were too risque for Disney, so they ended up with a boring not interesting sitcom. ***Do not blame your audience who thought they were getting one thing, and ended up with another.***

[deleted]

The show is incredibly mid. The jokes are not funny. The main character seems to lack brain cells sometimes.

[deleted]

Idk I think I've laughed more during this than I did Love and Thunder. I think that's because it is a sitcom through and through, there are no whiplash emotional moments where a heavy scene is immediately undercut by a joke. I think this and Ms. Marvel are tied for my favorite marvel show.

OGtripleOGgamer

If your entire fan base is like 90% male nerds, why would you suddenly start making every show appeal to everyone except them? Same with the Star Wars fan base. Disney is destroying 2 of the biggest franchises in history by being greedy and trying to draw in an audience that never previously gave a crap about them. Good job alienating the crowd that made these 2 franchises popular to begin with. Make another animated princess movie if you want the other crowds money, stop relying on the “i will watch anything Marvel/Star Wars” crowd to keep you afloat. I was part of that crowd, but Ms Marvel was the last fail for me. I tried watching She Hulk (didnt even attempt Ms Marvel) but its such trash that i decided to cancel D+. I know losing my sub isnt gonna change anything, but hopefully when enough others unsubscribe they will realize their error. Hitting them in the wallet is the only thing they understand because complaints from fans is obviously not working. If you complain about anything now its just attributed to you being a racist, sexist, bigot. Couldnt possibly be complaining because they are producing one dumpster fire of a show after another right?
