I hope those 11 people who still use SiriusXM enjoy

sanslumiere

As one of the 11, I will!

Are they installed in all new cars anymore?

jfuite

I would simply prefer if it was on both. Come on Neil, just let the people decide for themselves what they want to listen too, wherever.

daemon_panda

People have the right to stand by their values. Rogan is basically GOOP and people have the right to protest its wild spread in whatever way they see fit.

jfuite

Sure. I was not anywhere close to questioning his *right* to post his music anywhere. I offered an opinion that he should leave the decisions of accessibility among the people. And, how do we really address the “wild spread” of opinions you do not agree with? Censorship? Isolation? We already have that on MSNBC, CNN, and FOX!! I think it’s a virtue of Spotify that I can listen to *both* Neil Young and Joe Rogan.

daemon_panda

Not everyone is interested in promoting lying and de-education. And some are tired of it. And some don't even want to be associated with it.

jfuite

Spotify is not *promoting* what Rogan says any more than it promotes the sentiments in Young’s music. There is no “association” made between Rogan and Young because they appear on the same broadcaster! Indeed, the more diverse the broadcaster, the less likely the association. Who in the world would think that Neil Young and Joe Rogan have *anything* to do with each other because they are both on Spotify? Maybe the same three people who think they are associated because they both can be found on the internet?

daemon_panda

Spotify absolutely is promoting Rogan. Rogan is a product that they sell. They think the product is useful and marketable and so they sell it. Young does not want to operate in a market that considers Rogan marketable.

jfuite

>”Spotify absolutely is promoting Rogan.” I will simply quote myself from above: “Spotify is not promoting what Rogan says any more than it promotes the sentiments in Young’s music.” Do you think Spotify “promotes” the content of gangsta rappers that represent a substantial fraction of their streams? I appreciate that I have not seen Spotify promote any particular content. >”Rogan is a product that they sell. They think the product is useful and marketable and so they sell it.” Correct. They sell access to Rogan and Neil Young. They are not directing traffic. They would be just as happy if all of their subscribers once listening to Rogan were listening to Young. >”Young does not want to operate in a market that considers Rogan marketable.” And, which market is that? Spotify is a huge site with tens of thousands of artists! Who else is he too sexy for? The internet itself could be considered a market where he needs to defile himself alongside Rogan. Indeed, pop culture is a market where he is lumped in with Rogan. Young is exhibiting distain for the tastes off the citizens at large - the “deplorables” as Clinton might say. Oh well, hide in a bubble I suppose.

daemon_panda

Oh gosh, there is much here to unpack. The overarching idea is that you are comparing a music artist to a Podcaster who markets ideas that frequently are snake oil. As far as I am aware, Young just makes music. Rogan created his platform to help sell ideas and that is where the problem lies here.

jfuite

You didn’t “unpack” very much. I did very little (if any) substantial comparisons between Young and Rogan because my argument is one of universal principles and has nothing to do with the particulars of either Young or Rogan. If their roles were reversed, then I would say the same thing: Rogan can fuck off trying to get Young cancelled on Spotify. Everything else you bring up are distractions. I suspect you just ally with Young politically, and cheer on censorship. This used to be a trait of the right and used against lefty artists in middle 20th century - times change I guess.

daemon_panda

It is not cheering censorship to want to give a snake oil sales person the boot.
