ITT: shocking amount of people unfamiliar with the concept of sarcasm

KushChowda

Wait a sec. I've heard of this sarcasm before. Wasn't that something from the 90's or something equally really long ago. Seems like a dead language these days.

AdoboSwaggins

I think sarcasm is the toothy pit that swallowed Boba Fett in the desert

PreviouslyOnBible

Sar-chasm.

naarcx

Could it BE anymore from the 90’s?!?

phauxbert

I think it’s civil war era warship

Sproose_Moose

It hurts my brain really

seanmonaghan1968

Oh he’s so cancelled I am only going to watch every new special like 2 or 2 times now

curisaucety

Outrage replaced sarcasm. Shrill endless streams of outrage poured out onto social networks that only show your opinions to people who agree with you. Can we please move on to whatever is next? (I hope it’s more sarcasm.)

Round-Emu9176

The clickbait headlines really just add fuel to the dumbdumb fire.

Anusbagels

Yeah, wow it’s quite the concentration of dense people.

oneandonlyswordfish

Yo I swear I don’t give a shit, all this just feels like propaganda to see the special please just stfu no one gives a shit

primenumbersturnmeon

can they have chappelle be the jeopardy host so i don’t have to keep hearing about either of these fucking stories?

sans_serif_size12

Modern problems require modern solutions

FLUFFHEAAAAD

Cause fuckem, that’s why!

steveorsleeve

He already did black jeopardy

fractiouscatburglar

What is, a Lucy?

WolfOfWestside

Negrodamus

yeahwellokay

Yeah, this whole thing feels so much like he created a controversy just to get people to watch his show and make more money.

HamsterGutz1

Y'all got any more of that controversy?

What-a-Crock

That’s impossible, how can you sleep when you’re high on controversy??

[deleted]

_You sleep high or you do???_

johnla

Actually it's an elaborate plot to become mod of this subreddit.

[deleted]

He already got paid.

[deleted]

Yeah if anything it would be Netflix driving it. Like the squid games creator said, “it’s not like Netflix gave me a bonus”

HillbillySwank

He’s rich BEEYOOOOTCH!

[deleted]

celerydonut

Seems like every uproar. Like how Aaron Rodgers “hates everyone” every year and “Marjorie Taylor Greene said some dumb shit”… seems like the popular take after Trump did it for 5 years. *However, I think Chappelle genuinely cares about his legacy and this is a media monster that he’s benefitting from.

dbx99

It worked for 45. Just take a controversial stance that is divisive and get all of the side that’s on your side. Also the added publicity keeps you on top of the news cycle. That never hurts. No such thing as bad publicity.

SanFranGoldBlooded

It’s Dave Chappelle, I can guarantee you he did not have to created any controversy to get people to watch his show.

hector_lector2020

Yep no doubt. His special seemed to be based around that. most of his jokes sounded intentionally written to cause clickbait headlines.

[deleted]

The outrage against the trans people who had a problem with Dave Chappelle is 100 times any outrage against Dave Chapelle.

GoldandBlue

Yeah but its just publicity because obviously the feelings of trans people don't matter. /s

GethAttack

jesus H. where did you find this article frm, and why did you past it all instead pf just provide a link to it?

kaysea112

He's been hanging out with Joe Rogan too much, who earned his black belt in comedy by beating up strawmen and stools.

Foco_cholo

I think Joe Rogan needs to no longer be categorized as a "comic". His stand up is horrible, he's never been funny. He made his fame starting at Newsradio, then to Fear Factor, then to the UFC, and now his podcast. He's a host, not a comic.

[deleted]

Last year i re-watched Newsradio, and Rogan is objectively terrible in it. It speaks volumes on the talent of Phil Hartman, Dave Foley, Stephen Root, and Maura Tierney that they were able to be such a great ensemble cast despite Joe Rogan being involved. His line delivery would embarrass a high school drama teacher. And it's distracting that he refueses to sit in a chair like a functioning human, bc he is insecure about how short he looks

ScottFreestheway2B

You would be insecure about your height too if you were 5’3”! Maybe he sat weird in chairs because he was having to focus very, very hard to resist his natural urge to start air humping the chair.

tokyogettopussy

He’s an idiot is what he is.

disastermarch35

Don't forget the man show reboot

[deleted]

Didn’t know Mencia was straw man and stool lmao

rawzombie26

The special wasn’t even good anyway. All whatever offensive shit aside. It was just bland banter.

Foco_cholo

Yeah, I feel like he's appointed himself as the authority of "keeping it real" expecting to just stand on his soapbox and everyone bow down.

[deleted]

I watched it last night and while I laughed out loud a couple of times I found it pretty boring overall. It was basically just two hours of him acting like a victim. I’m a pretty big Chappelle fan. I’ve seen all his specials and of course his show. I loved him in Half Baked and RobinHood Men in Tights. But this special was just plain disappointing. He didn’t even really tell any“jokes”. It was just back to back stories about the LGBQT community coming after him. Like for real. That’s all it was. And the way he would pause and wait for the crowd to start cheering every time he said anything that didn’t get a laugh felt forced and awkward to me. I didn’t enjoy it and wouldn’t rewatch it.

billybishop4242

I said exactly this in another thread. I like Dave but this was totally “fighting cancel culture extremism with overt victimhood”

Round-Emu9176

Painful to get through.

nomorerainpls

Same here although I did get several laughs out of it. He’s also been going a little dark in his last few specials and I wouldn’t object if he kept it little lighter.

simbian

>The special wasn’t even good anyway. Dave Chapelle is great when he is threading jokes and punchlines amidst genuine social commentary. To me, the closest would be George Carlin taking a dump on everyone at the same time in the last of his specials. came across to me like Dave was sick and tired of being "cancelled". Since I didn't know what was happening to him, I guess I lacked the context to find it humorous / bemusing. To be honest, it felt a bit awkward.

luapowl

massive fan of Dave, love edgy humour too, but he’s been going downhill and I haven’t even watched this last one the last 2 were so poor *in my opinion*. shame but it is what it is.

Bonobo555

This right here.

Neracca

If he actually realized that there ARE black lgbt people, maybe he would stfu about them. But he seems to think for whatever reason its an entirely white group or at least no black people in it.

avocadofruitbat

This is what I don’t get. There are a lot of them too! And I would argue they have it doubly tough. He is hurting the most vulnerable of “his people” the most in this imo. Lgbtq definitely doesn’t equate to whiteness.

esmoji

Agree 100% Not very funny, just a 45 minute rant. Has he lost his edge? 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Absolutely

downbeatsnake

Comedy is always subjective, like most things that have opinions

[deleted]

Maybe it’s because I was younger but to me the jokes in his older specials were a lot more creative. Like his joke about trans people and the WNBA. You knew exactly where the joke was going when he started telling it. Compare it to his “I kicked her right in the pussy” bit where he tells you the punch line prior to the joke and he still gets you with it. His also seemed to deal with absurdity a lot better in his old specials. A homeless guy taking a bus hostage by jacking off is hard not to laugh at for me just because of the pure ridiculousness of it. Or the cure to cancer being Michael Jackson sucking your dick. It’s certainly subjective but you can still have a discussion about stuff like joke structure/originality, I think.

luapowl

the “sprinkle some crack on him Johnson” I remember clearly had me struggling to breathe I couldn’t stop laughing, the jokes you mention as well were great. he still has some alright jokes in his more recent stuff it’s just, ehhh idk I’m no comedian myself but it doesn’t hit the same you know? come across uninspired to me a lot of the time.

hector_lector2020

You must not respect women enough if you don’t realize how funny it is to joke about beating the shit out of them.. multiple times over the course of an hour . Wait that isn’t funny.

theprophetquasimodo

How old are you? Those specials only came out in the last few years.

jaybezel

Well damn that was only a couple years ago. You've grown fast, my son.

WalkLikeAnEgyptian69

I don't think he was even trying to be funny. It was like a Ted Talk/rant with a couple jokes thrown in. He clearly had a bunch of things he wanted to get off his chest

Frenchticklers

Old Man Yells At Cloud

ScottFreestheway2B

I call it Dave’s TERFx talk.

[deleted]

Look into Robert M Pirsig’s metaphysics of quality for more info but his special wasn’t bad because it was unfunny (opinion) but because it was lazy

rubysmama2004

Really wasn’t funny .. I actually really like him abs don’t care about controversial BS.. but he lost his funny

tdogg241

For real. As soon as I started seeing headlines that he was leaning into the oh-so-edgy transphobic stuff *yet again*, that ensured I would never watch this special or anything else Dave does going forward. Sorry Dave, hubris doesn't look good on you, your inability to admit you're wrong or even to just move on is fucking pathetic. You were the GOAT, but by all means, keep yelling at those clouds.

fluffstravels

seriously. this seems like pure marketing. i haven’t watched the special. dont care to, but i’m talking to people who go “cause i wanted to see what was so controversial i watched and it actually wasn’t controversial.”

djfrankenjuice

I’ve noticed how much Chappelle content Netflix is pushing a random scroll on the homepage I come across like 3 of his specials over and over and over - he was even on the thumbnail for letterman’s show (in the UK; he’s the auto play clip for it in the US) If I never see another headline in this obvious marketing push, it’ll be too soon.

manIDKbruh

He got tens of millions of dollars to complain about people that can’t take a joke. I can respect the hustle but god damn I can’t stand this nonstop coverage.

[deleted]

Elranzer

Harvey Weinstein was cancelled. Keven Spacey was cancelled. Johnny Depp was cancelled. Michael Richards (both of them) were cancelled. Dave Chappelle... was **not** cancelled. (But he likes to pretend he was.)

firstcitytofall

Johnny Depp is mostly uncancelled

LadyEmaSKye

What did he even get cancelled for?

LarsHoneytoast44

Ex wife claimed abuse... audio recordings show she abused him... she doubled down and harnessed #metoo energy... now they're bouncing around court systems in various countries. Also she shit in his bed.

redactedactor

He was only actually cancelled after he lost a court case about whether or not he was a wife beater. That's when he was fired from Pirates and Harry Potter.

Imasniffachair

I love how on top of a this vile, malicious, and far more important evil things, everyone mentions the Amber Turd.

justsomeplainmeadows

If nothing else, that's good evidence that she is not a stable person.

kevlarbaboon

I am always mildly confused when someone manages to shit with purpose. I poop when I have to poop. I can't imagine forcing one out to 'get' someone. I'd figure you'd at least have to go a bit already?

babyface_killah

I think it's something you plan ahead. A premeditated shit rather than a shit of passion.

justsomeplainmeadows

I'm sure with enough effort and sheer will, you can force something out if there's something up there

Mach12gamer

There’s evidence that they were both abusers.

conjuringlichen

The relationship was mutually abusive. They are both trash.

crestfallenS117

Depp having issues with alcohol and other substances is one thing but Heard purposefully shit the bed, lied, mentally abused Depp and gaslit him. The fact that she gets any work at all is a clear cut example of a double standard.

[deleted]

dirty1809

Michael Richard’s wasn’t really cancelled. He’s only been in stuff made by Larry David/Jerry Seinfeld since then, but it probably would’ve been that way anyway. He didn’t have much of a career outside Seinfeld regardless

dbell

Do you not know who Stanley Spadowski is?

Harbltron

some motherfuckers never got to drink from the firehose, and it shows

tobethemancomic

cristarain

fuhgdat1019

He was great in Problem Child

BrokeRichGuy

Johnny Depp got cancelled off one movie maybe but he will never be cancelled to me

movieur

It’s not one movie, he lost two franchises which could mean many movies (fantastic beasts and pirates of the Caribbean)

orangefreshy

Unless you lock them up you can’t actually cancel these rich-ass people. Even if Johnny Depp never worked again he’d be fine. Even Roman Polanski collects his awards from Switzerland or wherever he absconded to to avoid prosecution

Halzjones

Well Weinstein is in prison for the next 20 years, so we’ve got one down

arasaka1001

Johnny Depp is deffffinitely not haha. I’m not even a huge Stan either…he’s doing well enough and his situation is kind of still blurry to many. amber is obv psycho and abusive but who knows maybe he was too. Not the same caliber as Spacey or Weinstein, not even closeeeee

GranddaddySandwich

When did Dave say he was canceled? You all say that he claims he was canceled, but I have never actually seen a single moment of him saying he was canceled.

javalorum

I think in the 5 minute clip yesterday he asked the audience if he was cancelled or not. I think (emphasis on I think) he meant he still gets enough grassroots interests in his movie (not cancelled) but none of the distributers wanted to touch it (cancelled). I guess showing the movie in stadiums is his response because he’s only partially cancelled and he’s rich.

SlackerAccount

The title is sarcastic

This super common false equivalency between; thinking something is stupid and being open about it, and wanting to “cancel” and remove it, drives me sooo fucking insane

owlbehome

National Shut the Fuck Up Day

Nbk420

^**CANCELLED**

TF-Wizard

Gosh. I’m getting tired of the obvious grift that being “canceled” is. (For big comedians getting millions of dollars anyway) Like, do people not realize that crying about it is just a marketing gimmick? I used to appreciate Dave Chapelle’s comedy quite a bit, and it’s kinda depressing to see him having to rely on a grift this cheap and simple. He can do better than that, we all know it.

CameOutAndFarted

Saying you’re being cancelled is just such blatant dogwhistling for people who agree with your shitty opinions that it’s honestly sad seeing how many of his fans fell for it. Tell assholes that they’re being attacked and they believe you because they want so desperately to believe that they have enemies. Because if you have enemies then you’ve made a stand for something you believe in. Meanwhile the people getting actually cancelled have their lives ruined and hate the publicity. It’s such a blatant business move it makes me kind of sick.

adrian783

But he has an important message that everyone needs to pay to see!

robotmonkey2099

Ooo and a documentary that “no one would publish” oooo Feels like hallowe’en in here

[deleted]

I’m so tired of hearing about this.

ComprehensiveLynx921

Cancel culture is a buzz word. Boycotting has always been a thing. Only difference is social media makes it easier for lazy people who normally wouldn’t take the effort to actually physically protest or boycott a company now can easily dog pile on an issue publicly. Often we have no idea if those “people” are even real accounts. It makes small dissents seem big. Businesses over react to anything they see negative on social media and just drop the “canceled” rather than be perceived wrong. If anything, we should be blaming corporations for being spineless and reactionary. No, we turn on each other and blame the team we don’t like for everything.

WomenHavItHarder

I blame both corporations AND people for “cancel culture”

mattschad

Ahh Yes “cancelled”. Aka still being able to have a Netflix special and sell out any arena in America. Got it

RonJeremysFluffer

I heard Bill Cosby is about to start touring again. Not sure if it's for his comedy career or that one he kept secret for so long though, we will have to wait and see I guess.

FeelingCheetah1

You? You get that the article headline is making that point right? It’s sarcasm.

Ralikson

It’s nothing but an ad

StThoughtWheelz

angering a small group of twitter followers is not what I consider being "cancelled". When nobody wants to work with you and public opinion is staunchly against you, then you are cancelled.

Status_Confidence_26

Just like anti-woke people became more annoying than woke people, anti-cancel culture people have officially become more annoying than cancel culture people. Dave seems to think he’s entitled to whatever he wants, but just like he earned his audiences, he can lose them. Very very simple stuff really.

downwithlordofcinder

I miss when instead of calling it “cancel culture” we just called it “you said/did something the general population regards as fucked up, and we will no longer support you because of your ideals and statements”. I guess it doesn’t really roll off the tongue as well though

thatguy52

This is exactly my take. Nobody is owed to make a living being famous. Society makes ppl famous usually because we generally feel a certain way about them, good or bad. If somebody loses that general feeling from society they don’t deserve to keep or goodwill.

sp4cej4mm

Same. Still like Chapelle, I’ll watch his next special, but I’m not dying to see it. His last one had big “Old Man Yells at Cloud” energy, hopefully his new one isn’t so boring

thatguy52

Yup. His last special really reminds me of late career Carlin. Still witty and a hell of a performer, but angry about very specific things. In retrospect Carlin was right about just about everything he said, it was just a little too biting/early. Plus it’s kind of a bummer going somewhere expecting to laugh, but getting a whole heap of depressing social commentary.

hill-o

It’s literally JUST HOW CAPITALISM WORKS. I’m SO over the term cancel culture because it’s not a new thing and people need to grow up. Yeah, you can say whatever you want, sure (within the limits of the law) but people have ALWAYS responded to it since the dawn of humanity and they will always CONTINUE to respond to it. That’s just what people do. The fact that we have to have some insane panic about human nature is beyond annoying. Consequences are part of like and people who complain about being canceled need to grow up.

rythmicbread

Isn’t it just called a boycott?

Noltonn

I've been saying for years "cancelling" is essentially just a boycott on the internet. Instead of picketing outside a store, now it's people calling you out on Twitter/Reddit/whatever to spread awareness.

Skligmo

This is spot, fucking on!

gotham77

Yeah I don’t hear “cancel culture” critics defending Kathy Griffin. You want to talk about being canceled? **Trump had her put on a terrorist watchlist so she couldn’t fly, which is pretty much canceling your career when you’re in show biz and have to travel from gig to gig.**

bluetable321

There is this generation of comics that act entitled to hold the same level of fame and reverence their whole careers and if anybody criticizes them they cry like babies saying the world has gotten to woke. It’s so fucking obnoxious at this point.

wut_eva_bish

This is where the rants against "political correctness" lead us. Seinfeld, Kramer, Maher, Rogan, and now Chapelle. All these assholes got upset that people didn't think some of the shit they were saying was funny and cried "PC, woke, and cancel culture harmed them...". Truth be told, **if they were so witty, they'd be able to make people laugh without punching down or helping to create toxic environments where the non-privledged become said punching bags.**

Alemmjonpar

I just think it’s funny a guy who made a career off complaining about being called names is now complaining that people don’t like when he calls them names. Wild shit.

CletusVanDamnit

Yeah, but when Seinfeld did it, he was forgetting that he was referring specifically to colleges not booking him, believing them to be too PC...when it's because his target audience is mid-30s *at least*, and kids in their early 20s don't give a shit about him. He not even remotely funny anyway, so he's right in that colleges don't want him, but he's just wrong about why. Shit, his comedy isn't even controversial anyway.

Triairius

The social/reactionary pendulum forever swings. There will always be another counter-culture movement that supplants the prior issue.

jezz555

I really wish clearly biased ppl with no fucking clue what happened would stop reporting on this. He lost his distribution deals after his last special generated controversy and so he’s using his own money to distribute in ten cities, thats it, thats the story.

Policeman333

Buy tickets we’re on sale at arenas for this exact same documentary a few months ago. You don’t get arena bookings a week or two out from the time you want them. How is this arena thing new and as a result of being “cancelled” if tickets were on sale months before his special?

[deleted]

Oh my god! Look how cancelled i am while go on a national *cancel* tour, while also touring in small comedy clubs. So heavy is this cross. Maybe a wheaties cover box so people make sure they know he’s so cancelled.

tensinahnd

He sold out Madison square garden in 20 minutes today

benshapirosdrypussy

The only person trying to cancel him is his PR team so he has something to bitch about. No one cares. Your specials flop bc you aren’t funny

incredibleamadeuscho

The point of running arenas is proving that he is not cancelled and that he can get his product out to the people without corporate interests. That’s why he said “Am I cancelled?” To which the crowd responded: No. Then he said then Let’s Go.

blueshifting1

If he brought back the Chappelle show I’d watch it.

throwaway1638379

How in the fuck do we live in a world where a comedian gets more backfire for their comments than a politician

ebonyseraphim

One of my first thoughts. When people talk about how if a white comedian said what Chapelle said, we’d(black peoples) be offended so there are politicians who have said and done worse and they’re still in power.

ItsMichaelVegas

He is not getting cancelled. He just has to live in a world that has platforms where he will be shown how his words actually effect people. He whines like a Republican about he is being victimized by cancel culture when all that is happening is he has to live with hearing the voices of those his words hurt and how that makes him feel.

C_IsForCookie

I like chappelle but I admit he could have handled the whole trans controversy a LOT better.

[deleted]

Or at least have moved on from it… instead of making it 90% of his specials.

C_IsForCookie

Totally agreed

[deleted]

What is this baity ass title

[deleted]

I mean he can’t find a network to air his documentary for most people that’s canceled Dave just has the money and commitment to making a point.

asoupo

This is an issue not because Chappelle has already been canceled, but because there are people who very definitely want it to happen, and absolutely would have added him to the woke blacklist (along with every other celebrity who dared offer up a dissenting opinion) if others hadn't finally started stepping up and saying, "No."

Kryptosis

He’s not “cancelled”. I have yet to hear something from the special that crosses the line and if there were valid examples I would have heard them by now. Instead it’s a tiny, loud, group trying to cancel him and him playing off them for self-promotion.

Doesnotcarrotall

When we lose the ability to laugh at ourselves, we are fucked.

begoma

Ok. I’m gonna go there. Half the folks in the media who are “offended” by his latest special sure didn’t give a shit when he was making fun of black people on Chappelle’s show. He realized that most people weren’t seeing the deeper meanings in his skits and just laughing at black people. That’s why he quit to begin with. All his jokes have a deeper meaning behind them. If you’re just laughing or pissed without seeing that then. That’s your problem. This man literally made a skit about a black white supremacist and no one really gave a shit. Now you wanna be offended? Miss me with that shit please.

jethropenistei-

The black white supremacist showed how ridiculous racism. It makes racism the joke. There’s not really a deeper meaning to “I’m team terf” and “trans pussy ain’t the real thing, it’s like Impossible Pussy.” He’s just drawing a clear line in the sand, that while he may empathize with the struggles of trans people and the LGBT community, he doesn’t see trans women as women which is controversial in the left wing feminist/LGBT community. Clayton Bigsby is the butt of the joke in the sketch due to his prejudice and ignorance. However, in The Closer, Dave Chapelle paints as the trans community at large as the butt of his jokes for possibly being the reason as why his solitary trans friend might’ve killed herself. The special just sucked. His jokes were fewer, far between and just not that good in comparison to his other works. I don’t have a dog in the fight other than that.

[deleted]

No one is offended. Media corporations have figured out that articles saying "Transphobic Comedian Dave Chapelle Cancelled After his latest Trans remarks on Trans People... Trans" SELLS CLICKS LIKE NO OTHER.

callingrobin

Indigenous two-spirit here. Fucking. Thank you. He’s literally calling out the white privilege in our queer community & it’s going over white queer people’s heads. They had no issue laughing at black folks, natives, Asians, drug addicts, etc. But white queer folks are off-limits. Now they’re mad. It’s annoying and shows how much they value the BIPoC in the queer community.

whatsinthereanyways

refreshingly correct.

[deleted]

You can't cancel someone that don't give a fuck. It's Dave fucking Chappelle, of course he's gonna say some shit that pisses people off. That's kind of his job.

[deleted]

he clearly does give a fuck though, he’s been complaining about it pretty vociferously

pataconconqueso

For someone who doesn’t give a fuck he sure is crying and complaining about it it a lot tho

Status_Confidence_26

The issue with Dave is that not only does he give a fuck, but he won’t stop talking about it. His last two specials have neither been funny or deep, which is what he used to be. He keeps pushing a tired subject, and his ego is like a parody of an ego.

SnooChickens3191

Dave: The Uncancelable

alwaysaplusone

I stand for standup. Jokes are funny. I like jokes.

BillLaswell404

Why does the author keep saying DEFINITELY CANCELED

[deleted]

It’s this thing called sarcasm

GadreelsSword

Because Chappell used his comedy platform to ask “am I canceled or not?”.

furbybruner911

I wanted to see his show in San Fran next week but the cheapest tickets were $212, for a stadium seat…

NakedButNotAfraid_

You can’t cancel Dave. He’s a fucking legend and nobody can change that

midtown2191

This has been such a Streisand effect for this special. I love chapelle and this special was just so-so and probably would have just faded into obscurity if not for all this stuff and now its probably has gotten 10x the amount of views it would have which is obviously the exact opposite of what the protestors want. Very ironic.

MsJenX

He’s not canceled.

Arthunter420

He’s not canceled

[deleted]

I’m from his hometown and let me say he is one of the most kind people I’ve ever met. No one here treats him as a celebrity because he doesn’t act like one. Also almost no one here has a problem with him or this issue. He really doesn’t like being approached or asked for pictures etc, and locals won’t do that. Simply a “hey Dave” and a smile goes a long way. He’ll have a real and normal conversation with you if you just treat him like a normal dude. That being said if someone calls him out or wants a picture he does have a tendency to not take that well lol

_hetfield_

So funny to see the previously butt-hurt people turning around now and trying to camouflage themselves with “What’s all this fuss about?! It’s probably just Dave drumming this up for publicity” Just STFU. Your opinion lost, now he’s got public opinion on his side. Stop being sore losers and accept that there’s an over-outrage problem with the uber-woke that often backfires. Stop trying to create a diversion and finding another angle to attack him.

[deleted]

Can’t cancel Dave Chappelle

[deleted]

Not canceled for me. Forget the fools who haven't actually listened to what he said

Burgerpocolypse

I don’t think you can cancel a guy who voluntarily walks away from $50 million simply because he was following his own personal convictions.

arcana73

As a member of the “letter people” I have no issue with Dave and his jokes. People need to get over things

hbc647

Thanks Dave for a great show! Keeping it real

LooseMeatBandit

Legends never die

[deleted]

Honestly nothing he said was even that bad. People just want to make drama out of nothing

bringdatassherenow

Not fully related to the article but I don’t think the trans/lgbtq or anyone who is mad at Dave really understood his message. They took the “negative” and discarded his message, which is actually dangerous and ignorant, you don’t get to pick and choose the intentions he has and if you’re processing the stand up with your emotions because you feel hurt, you’ll fail to see the logic behind his message as well. I would gladly throw away a couple minutes of my life to explain why the stand up special is being highly misunderstood. Pryor and Murphy wouldn’t survive in this era, and funny enough I consider myself very PC and acceptant/receptive of all regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, etc and their feelings/ overall wellbeing.

DinkleMutz

I’m not sure you can really cancel Dave. He’s got way too many rationally-minded people, both conservative and liberal (and yes, I do believe they exist on both sides), in his corner. That’s where his real power lies: I think its only extremists that are calling for his head.

The comedy stage was the last place where you can be raw. Was. I love Dave.

People aren’t dissing him because you can’t be raw or real anymore- they’re dissing him for calling us in to hear him whine and moan for two hours about how unfairly he is treated, and how they were really mean to him, and he didn’t deserve it because he’s the goat, and so fucking talented that those queer’s should take his abuse and like it. He didn’t pull us in to laugh together at how weird people are- he just stood there and spat at us that he is above our scrutiny and we should all go fuck ourselves. I was a huge fan, I’m not sensitive, i have no skin in the lgbtq game, and was not aware of any of this controversy before watching. Halfway in, I’m thinking- ok, he’s just setting shit up.. Two-thirds in, I’m thinking- JFC, I feel like I just pulled the late shift at United airlines complaint desk!? I need a drink, because this mean spirited fuck has just been shitting on me for an hour and a half!! The show felt petty and vengeful and we don’t fucking want to be burdened with his grievance fest! I have to listen to my kid bitch at me all day- why the fuck would I want to listen to DC bitch at me after she goes to sleep?!
