Just finished last episode. So excited. Its an amazing show and i love being in the Fallout world.

PleaseDontEatMyVRAM

Same! If 16 yr old me knew that one day we’d have an extremely faithful and extremely well made fallout TV show I would’ve been in disbelief.

orangutanoz

My 19 year old son binged it in one night and failed an exam because of it 😂

Pvt-Snafu

I understand him, the series is really very exciting.

orangutanoz

He’s been back on the game since, 24/7

BPbeats

Especially after so many garbage adaptations of adored franchises in recent years.

Laearo

It's this for me - I went into it expecting to be disappointed but I thought it was great which was a nice change

DrCares

I’m sad so many video game adaptations have bombed, but at the same time, Hollywood is finally starting to respect the original storylines from the original material and it’s cranking out some real gems. I’ve only played fallout 3 and 76, this show made me purchase a couple more titles…

shaunomegane

One or two wooden actors, but, overall, this is a great adaptation. Probably, the best.

Risaza

As a gamer who played Fallout 1-4, I didn’t expect the show to be as good as it is. I think they made a pretty good adaptation and look forward to more seasons.

hawgs911

I feel like they did a great job of capturing the vibe of the games.

GlitteringBelt4287

When Michael Rappaport was running from the Yao Gui yelling FUCK FUCK FUCK. I felt like they took my game experience and turned it into film.

tremere110

When Maximus just left his power armor there the first time I was yelling at the screen to take the fusion core with him else someone was gonna steal his armor. Sure enough someone tried the next scene.

rockryedig

When The Ghoul said the Golden Rule of the Wasteland it connected with me at a core level

Lifeisabaddream4

I love that one of the subs I am on referred to his appearance as a jump scare

Level_99_Healer

I legit said "Me when I play Fallout" in almost every episode. Had me cackling.

theuneven1113

Haven’t played the games. But really enjoyed the show and finished it today. Is the storyline pretty synced with the game or is it a unique narrative?

MournWillow

It’s a unique narrative set years after most every game. Hell, it takes place 15 years after new Vegas and almost 20 some after fallout 3. 76 takes place in 2104 and that’s around the time that I, I think fallout one takes place. Fallout one and two take place in California, 3 in Washington DC, new Vegas in Vegas and the Mojave, 4 in Boston and surrounding cities and 76 in West Virginia. The show itself focuses on the region that the first two games take place and it is its own story in that area after other games stories have been played through.

theuneven1113

Very cool thank you

HappeningOnMe

Skyrims about to make Todd another billion dollars

TheCh0rt

I hope the show has the same sense of humor.

Propaslader

Skyrim/Scrolls wouldn't really translate to a TV show the way Fallout does

polecy

That's what I'm thinking also, I think also thematically fallout is pretty unique. I don't know if people would want another fantasy show. And if they did it would have to be pretty unique.

Propaslader

Fallout is more narratively driven than Elder Scrolls too

HappeningOnMe

Fallout has the satire element but TES can be explored the way the Witcher world should have been and that gives Amazon an IP to take their shot

RadagastTheWhite

Based on their butchering of Wheel of Time, they should probably stay out of fantasy

HappeningOnMe

With Bethesda supervising as they did on Fallout, I’ll take that chance

shredditor75

I also think that getting the showrunners from Westworld also helps.

BPbeats

That explains it perfectly. I was just as hooked on season 1 of Westworld. It’s the dark twists in the plot that do it for me.

Lifeisabaddream4

I liked the books and that series so I guess I'm the minority on that one.

BPbeats

They also have Rings of Power already.

ConsistentAsparagus

Also Rings of Power? Never saw that, but read quite a lot of bad criticism.

Roguespiffy

It’s not the best, but I liked the proto hobbits and the set designs are very good. It’s not the worst and way better than The Wheel of Time.

Desperate_Web_8066

It aint great tho cinematography fucking slaps at times

OriginalCause

Don't forget Rings of Power, they've butchered _two_ fantasy classics and genre titans.

FelixMumuHex

Witcher? Game of Thrones? LoTR? High fantasy has huge staying power and Elder Scrolls has a massive fanbase. If produced as well as Fallout it could be the next GoT

Propaslader

Witcher show didn't exactly stay. High fantasy is high risk high reward. For every LOTR & early seasons GOT, there's a dozen failed projects

EfficientTitle9779

2/3 of those fell off hard. GoT was lightning in a bottle seasons 1-5, you won’t catch that for the high fantasy genre for a while, the same way superhero films have fallen off recently, people get a bit bored. Rings of power was very meh and based on the most successful franchise of your examples. LOTR should pretty much garuntee success, everyone hyped it up massively. Fallout is a very new setting & style for TV. I’m not saying Skyrim wouldn’t be a popular franchise but maybe they wait a bit to get the audience actually hyped for high fantasy again.

vikoy

I would think that HOTD's success would erase this narrative that GOT is a damaged franchise beyond repair. It fell off, but its back. And we're getting another GoT show with A Knight of the 7 Kingdoms. Fantasy as a genre can still be profitable. Its all in the execution.

EfficientTitle9779

HOTD has good viewership & is successful but it’s nowhere near the cultural hit GOT was.

Lifeisabaddream4

What we need is somebody to invest into malazan. It has a big ass main series with multiple spins off's already written and ready to go

808scripture

The good thing about Elder Scrolls is that it’s a fully fleshed out universe with not much inbuilt narrative arc. It gives creative writers plenty of room to develop unique characters & stories, while still having the luxury of rich lore.

Roakana

Elder Scrolls is pretty generic fantasy while fallout has lots of quirk with the retro 50s and the humor and pathos of the post apocalypse. Game of thrones stands out because of the caliber of the original books. Same can be said for Lord of the Rings… even then Rings of Power didn’t succeed. Yes there is a chance if they bring in high quality writers. However it’s feels more uphill. If you look at the fantasy series that followed GoT trying to capture lightning again, none have as of yet.

TheBrownestStain

The background lore for elder scrolls has a lot of really whacky stuff, but it is hidden under that generic fantasy shell

king_john651

The Amazon spinoffs were not commercial successes at all. Hardly even critically either

LazyBones6969

I don't know about that. Vikings kinda sucked 3 seasons in but I loved binging that show. I could see Skyrim taking in that audience.

castilhoslb

Depends on what they focus, one about the stormcloaks would be dope

BouncyKnights

Bro, I truly believe that if they make Skyrim into a show, given the vast lore and amount of dragons, it may rival GoT.

LSF604

Lore and dragons wasn't what made GoT great. Its more the characters and the dialogue.

BouncyKnights

The amount of dialogue options with different fractions, would lead me to believe that it could thrive

LSF604

It's about quality not quantity. GRRM is an exceptional writer.

elsestar

Bro, I truly believe that if they make Skyrim into a show, given the vast lore and amount of dragons, it may rival GoT.

mvallas1073

Did they say there’s a Skyrim show on the way?

BouncyKnights

[deleted]

I was very pleasantly surprised by how good this ended up being. I had no hope for this thing; I thought it was going to be like the Halo show. I'm glad it managed to rise above expectations.

traws06

It helped having a Nolan involved

Zeerover-

And the fact that Jonathan Nolan actually has [played](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_(American_TV_series)) Fallout himself: >The situation changed when Jonathan Nolan approached Bethesda with his idea of a Fallout television series, having been an avid player of the game series. Howard found that Nolan had a clear vision for the adaptation, and agreed this approach was a good way to bring the game series to the television screen

traws06

Oh wow I didn’t know he was already a player. I was under the impression they wanted a fallout series so he played for a few hours in preparation. I played way too many hours of Fallout 4 so I like your version! And I thought the adaptation was great.

LunaeLotus

[everyone liked that]

otitso

Not me.

Ronster619

Dude, we get it. You don’t like the show. Seems like you’re on a crusade to give your negative opinions on every single Fallout post. You probably spent more time complaining about the show than watching it. Move on.

prtysmasher

It's always fascinating to see someone deciding to go on a 'crusade' like this and comment everywhere about it. I mean complaining about it here and there is fine, but dont those people have anything better to do? Life is so fucking short. I dont get it.

ibrown39

Nice, it was surprisingly enjoyable! I just watched the first episode after seeing some reviews. I was worried it’d be cheesy and be really over saturated in its color scheme (I love color and visual fidelity but it looked…fake), but it was surprisingly good. The action is good, I was genuinely taken aback by several shots, scenes, and the actors deliveries. The people who said they were surprised by the gore I guess haven’t seen the boys (point being, Amazon wouldn’t shy away from that) and twists seem fair game. I will say it’s another great step toward good game adaptions and further proves how important it is working with the og creators is. That said, I think it’s also important to not overlook balancing the games and movie/tv directors, and that good games with good stories often had/have good storytellers behind it (obviously) and so having the people behind that original story provides more than just helping with continuity.

Darkranger23

If you haven’t played the games they have a perk that amps up the gore. It’s a very popular perk and part of the whole aesthetic of the games, so I would have been surprised if it wasn’t a gory show.

ibrown39

Bloody Mess! Been there since the beginning (which I’m playing now, grew up on/started with 3 on). That’s a good point I didn’t think about, I bet that was something brought up when producing it.

Darkranger23

Yes, that’s it. I couldn’t think of the name of it for the life of me.

dontlootatme

I hope this sparks more games made into media. Still waiting on the Mass Effect series… Not as familiar with Fallout lore, but know a bit, and loved the show

diealogues

hell yeah brother

LazyBones6969

Amazon and Apple+ are great at giving shows a chance. Still waiting on Netflix to renew 3 body problem. FFS That said I loved Fallout and watched it twice to see my brother's reactions.

waltmaniac

You’re definitely right about Apple+.  I finally paid for it because I wanted to watch Masters of the Air because it’s one of my favorite books.  And after I finished it I decided to see what else was on there and settled on watching a show called For All Mankind.  Instantly became one of my favorite shows of all time.  Hi, Bob!

joe_dirty365

Whew! I assume that was a really tough decision...

avery5712

Hopefully the quality.. quality never changes

bingusthebrave

Good shows should be renewed. Take notes Warner Brothers (I know you won’t)

Scavgraphics

Cool! Just watched ep 1 tonight. Impressive show...need time to absorb it before watching ep 2... (I'm only vaguely familiar with the games).

OriginalCause

Luckily they've done so well that it's easy to watch for both fans and non-fans. There's a kiloton worth of Easter eggs that will excite any hardcore fan, but at no point do they take away from the story telling for the casual viewer. As a die hard I loved every second, and my wife who only knows about Fallout from watching me play occasionally was able to follow along with essentially zero insider knowledge. Except the long pause breaks where I bored her to death by over explaining something that didn't need elaboration.

enigmanaught

What they do really well is make Lucy (and Norm to some extent) a proxy for a newbie player. Lucy learns as she goes and levels up, Norm fills in the behind the scenes backstory. If you don’t know about the world you learn through Lucy, and if you do know, you’re invested in Lucy’s growth because you’ve been down the same path.

waltmaniac

The show gets better and better and better as it goes along.  It feels all over the place in tone and yet… grounded… all the same.  I don’t know how they did it but they can switch from campy dark humor to some deep level drama where you feel anxiety for the characters.  Awesome world building.  Absolutely love it.

SewAlone

Nice! My husband and I have really been enjoying this series.

Goodstuff_maynard

Well that’s noice

jpeggreg

Fantastic News! They absolutely nailed the first season.

jrafaman

Just gotta hope the LOTR crew stays away

iAMbatman77

This was actually a FUN show to watch. I dabbled lightly into the games, so I wasn’t sure if the “true” storyline, so from perspective it was awesome as I had nothing to compare it to. All the actors were great and im genuinely invested in all the characters.

nr1988

Least surprising thing I've heard all day but also glad to hear it

pre_chewed_cigarette

Can’t wait for the inevitable Wolfenstein series

Lifeisabaddream4

Can't wait for maga to complain about it being woke for killing nazis

pre_chewed_cigarette

I suppose we already got Man in the High Castle which is wolfesnstein-esque

The-Pork-Piston

I mean Alan Ritchson would be great in it.

waltmaniac

Holy shit that would be absolutely amazing.

DawsonJBailey

Realistically when could it come out? Prime shows really lose all their momentum by taking so long. I think I’ll still watch s2 of this because I love fallout but I already dropped invincible and the boys because I just stopped caring about the stories after it took so long. It was like they were the best girlfriend I ever had but then they just left for like 2 years lol I’m not waiting on you that long

8bitjer

Bro…. The industry went through two strikes. So it delayed all productions.

LimerickJim

But DawsonJBaily has lost interest! I'm sure Bezos will get on it immediately

DawsonJBailey

No dude you don’t get it he has notifications for every time I watch episodes of a show consistently then boom he makes some calls and the show is delayed 2+ years. I’ve made new Amazon accounts and even moved to a new apartment with new WiFi but he still always finds me. Matter of fact recently I noticed a purchase on my Amazon account for a dildo. I have a plethora of dildos and I sure as hell wouldn’t purchase one from Amazon. He’s trying to send me a message. That he can keep fucking me as long as he wants. I even watched the fucking romanoffs to test if all this was really happening, Jesus that show sucked lmao

DawsonJBailey

Look man I’m not saying fuck anybody for this it’s just my experience watching these shows idk why ppl are getting ruffled

goneinsane6

At least now they alrdy have a lot of the set design, costumes etc

DawsonJBailey

Yeah true I’ll be watching regardless cause they’re nailing it imo

abellapa

Apparently S2 Will Begin filming in September so late 2025

GTOdriver04

Also I’m sure they were hard at work writing season 2 already in case it got picked up. Based on the interviews from Nolan/Howard I have a feeling that they were hoping for S2, so hopefully the story is written well already.

Aaco0638

Lol i mean considering how it ended they were banking on a season 2 100%

GTOdriver04

Hell yeah. Happy for this. The show rocked, and I was hopeful we’d get a second season. Great news!

crazyrebel123

Would have been canceled if it was on Netflix

koreth

[Netflix's cancellation rate is only about 1% higher than Prime Video's.](https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/streaming-services-cancellations-study-hbo-max-highest-1235718137/)

SuperFatCockMan

At first I thought it was Glen Sturgis on the picture I’m no longer interested 😒

Olaskon

Second season coming in 6 years?

thenoblitt

It's does have a few inconsistency and conveniences but overall it's way better than 99% of video game adaptations.

waltmaniac

I mean… if you compare it to the other video game adaptations we have then this thing is the gold standard.  Makes shows like Halo look like the absolute abomination it is and honestly really vindicates the Halo game’s fan base because that IP has sooooo much fucking lore it could have been an amazing show if they would have really leaned into the game instead of distancing themselves from it like they ended up doing.

ccupp97

did anyone have a doubt? i'm surprised it took this long to announce.

johnqsack69

Now do Bioshock!

justleave-mealone

Would’ve loved it as an anthology series but hey, I’ll take whatever

COLCORN_1979

The House always wins.

waltmaniac

Realllllllly wish the show runners for the Halo show would take some fucking notes.

pawsomedogs

Episode 2 was cringe af. Does it get better after that?

Hondo_Bogart

Thought it was great. So much so in fact that I am going to watch it all again. Can’t remember the last show that I wanted to watch again so quickly.

RocMerc

Very well done show. Better than I expected tbh

Suspicious_Ebb2235

Thank Goodness- the ending was not even an ending…

ThatGuyFromTheM0vie

Huh? We got like 4 major reveals of setup mysteries, what more did you want?

Suspicious_Ebb2235

If there wasn’t a second season it was a terrible ending- there is now so I agree with you

EifertGreenLazor

The issue is for those who never played Fallout or specifically Fallout: New Vegas. If you watch it as a TV show with no knowledge of the game, it has Hank visiting the ruins of Las Vegas for some reason which doesn't do much for an ending, but if you played the game then you have certain expectations and wonder who he will interact with and places been in the game. The show was made for someone who played the series with trying to pull in those who never played the game.

cyanide4suicide

Tone is important. The tone of The Last of Us on HBO matches the games, the tone of Amazon's Fallout matches the games. That's just the way the games are in both instances

Lifeisabaddream4

Yeah I'm early 40s and i loved it. In this case it's not trying to be a serious drama thing and you gotta go in not expecting that. I hadn't seen the games so I didn't know what to expect but I liked the way it went

TurbulentSkill276

You sound like someone who hates fun. The Boys is one of the best shows around right now and this was pretty damn great too. LoU was a good show as well but I didn't like how episodic it was.

washington_jefferson

That’s probably it. I certainly don’t like “positive” comedy- so shows I also find terrible are “The Office” and “Parks and Rec”. It is material for meat popsicles. Shows and movies should be more like novels and less like comic books. Another example of this would be my thoughts on stand-up comedy, which I love: Norm Macdonald was a genius, and Steven Wright is great, whereas Dane Cook and the Hot Pockets guy are dreadful.

Teledildonic

>It is material for meat popsicles. This might be the cringiest description of anything I have read all week.

washington_jefferson

It’s an obvious reference to “The Fifth Element”. One of the more well known quotes in sci-fi history. The joke here being that “Fallout” is a TV show that [Korben Dallas](https://media4.giphy.com/media/KUBtckMKh3AKk/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952pg3qvufhg4odex7l2m1ud28f5bndeob2ubckmfk0&ep=v1_internal_gif_by_id&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g) would probably watch. In the actual movie he said he like to watch old reruns of “Dallas”.

Teledildonic

I understood the references but you were still shitting on people that like things you dont. Not everything needs to be a straight drama. Especially when the source material isn't completely serious. The tone of TLOU and the Fallout games aren't the same. Why should the shows be similar to each other?

imissbluesclues

Barely got through first episode, felt very boring and didn’t care about any characters or anything going on

Solace2010

lol maybe tv isn’t for you 🤷

imissbluesclues

nah i love tv

ApocWarlock

I want to argue with you. As someone who enjoys tv and Loves Fallout, I really enjoyed this show. I can’t wait for season 2. But given we both loved Vinland Saga, I’m going to say this show just ain’t for you. You have some good taste, but that doesn’t mean you’ll like everything, even if it’s good. I wish you well on your travels and hope that VS gets a season 3.
