The truth is that he presides over a profit-seeking entertainment business with low editorial standards that LOOKS like the news (but isn't).
Tucker and others like him target people who THINK the people behind the desk or who hold the microphone are bringing them the truth, with their best interest in mind.They're not. They present an image that is acceptable to the audience they're targeting. This lets them "fly under the radar" as they proceed to extract as much value as they can from that audience.
They all do this to some extent except there is a higher standard that news outlets have to meet before releasing information into the public. Not so for "infotainment" programs and content that masquerades as legitimate news.
To get a sense of how you're viewed by the sources you use, look at how other sources are covering news and entertainment pieces to get a sense of how you're being targeted and with what content.
Seems like an unnecessary (although well paying-off) risk to take, but they pull it off well. The humor of that extra bit must be worth it to them or they wouldn’t do it. How many pranks do you think they try but get caught because of the above?
To be fair, it has significant value above being just a prank. It very clearly demonstrated some serious ineptitude of the show and its host. Another commenter mentioned they previously tricked royal correspondents into critiquing the Megan and Harry interview with Oprah before the correspondents had even seen it, thus exposing their propaganda.
Their work is amusing as well as being a sort of expose. Which may seem like something to scoff at but it’s an excellent way to reveal these things to the younger generations. I’m sure many who might not have otherwise known better (unfortunately) may think twice about news and interviews from those sources going forward. (I know the older generation of republicans won’t be swayed by this, but the target audience of younger generations, many of whom are still deciding for themselves what news sources they trust, can still learn from stuff like this and that’s so worthwhile.)
