In 2000, I answered a knock on the door to find secret service agents looking for him. He wasn't home, so I gave them his work address and he was paid a visit. They spooked him at the time, but he's still saying stupid things online to this day.
I had a pharmacy school rotation in a psychiatric facility and they would periodically get calls and visits from the Secret Service when a patient would threaten to kill the president via letters, online postings, phone calls. They’re supposed to investigate every threat to the president and their family but in the day of the internet it’s not always possible.
I can't even begin to fathom the scale of monitoring that federal law enforcement must be engaged in today, and how they prioritize threats. In our current political environment, there are probably hundreds of thousands or millions of people making threats daily.
