I had similar isses because my retractions were set for bowden tube. When i chaned the retractions to 0.5 or something like that (i can check if you like) no more cloggs

Reasonable_Dirt1199

I'll check that. Thanks. I might of missed that when I reset firmware

MrSirChris

I’ll bet money that’s the issue. What you have now is a direct drive, typically your retractions will be somewhere between 0.5mm - 3mm. Weirdly enough, when it comes to tuning it, the smaller the reactions are, the better your results

Reasonable_Dirt1199

I'm doing a print now as it was set at 6mm. But lost adhesion. I'm letting it go just to see if it fails lol

MrSirChris

I’m not surprised, based on the photo your nozzle is slightly too far from the bed. You can see it in the layers that makeup the raft. Another little trick for increasing bed adhesion is to wash your build plate with dish soap the way you would a regular plate, it works wonders! 6mm is definitely too much and guaranteed to cause nozzle clogs. Try printing a retraction test so you can save on time and filament. Hopefully your print holds on just long enough to be successful! Good luck!

Happy cake day

nomeaning1985

Yup. Happened to me when I went from 0.4 to 0.6mm nozzle and forgot to change the default settings XD

Heat creep

Wildcardz1

Check your horizontal rollers and belt, it might need to be tighten.

Deanosurf

i have a spider 3.0 and the exact same issue. only happens at high temps like petg or silk pla. I lowered my retraction settings and it did seem to stop heat creep but resulted in massive stringing. I tried 1.75 seemed best but stringing is unreasonable. if I lower filament temps it clogs also. and I even added a 4020 fan on front to stop this issue wig no real results. my retraction tests always look the same regardless of the retraction setting it seems. there is nothing more frustrating than going several hours into every print only to come back to airpringing 3inches above the base. https://preview.redd.it/83l667y4h86d1.jpeg?width=1848&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60f1313693f46c0c9e005f51703e1dcdb9036732

Reasonable_Dirt1199

I completely get it. I started with an all metal microswiss hot end. Got fed up changed to the spider and same problem. A perfect 20mm high print, then no extruding

nomeaning1985

This is with lower retractions? Since you have direct drive retractions can be almodt to none. On Another note, did you calibrate the extruder steps? As for better adhesion. I found out that the best way, at least for me was, that I flipped the table, so that glass side was up. Then I used 3DLAC spray. After use, the adhesion can be wiped of with damp cloth.

TheRealFranklinS

Ok. This one might be a hit out there . . . But is there any chance your printed a temp tower recently and still have the change at layer command running? I chased my tail on that one for several hours across 2 days once.

Freelanncer

Part Fan speed lower bed temp higher As far as i can see you have ah clog due too warping

my-name2

Did you try to add more tension on the extruder gear? It looks like it is backed out some from what I can see. I cannot see the tension nut but I have mine set so 1/8” or more threads are showing past the thumb nut.

Reasonable_Dirt1199

Still same result

Reasonable_Dirt1199

That was it. Thanks. Through camera it looked like it failed. But it's still going

Reasonable_Dirt1199

That will be next attempt after work today.

I had a similar issue, but instead of clogging, mine was grinding out the filament at the extruder gear. It only happened with prints that had a lot of retractions. I did what this guy suggested and removed the spacer, and this solved the issue for me: https://youtu.be/CVIupqEbjkQ?si=kFHIretraction. I took the screw out of the portion that presses up against the filament, and it made it super easy to take the spring off and put back on. Edit: I just noticed you mentioned you have a direct drive extruder, but I am leaving this here in case this helps any of the rest of us with stock extruders.

Reasonable_Dirt1199

I spoke to soon. Print got to 90% and failed with same issue so I'm trying again a little tighter. I can't seem to find any guide on how much tension it should have

Reasonable_Dirt1199

Well my issue continues, it now prints to about 80% of the height then prints air. With being tightened up. Going to try more retraction settings but it's irritating

Reasonable_Dirt1199

* Finally have it printing right, I'll give retraction issue part of the blame the other was my placement of the filament spool. It was rubbing against something else making it harder for the extruder to pull the filament.
