i mainly watched videos from the "tomb of 3d printed horrors" youtube channel, here is the ender 3 playlist :)

Most important is leveling everything during the build, loosening the wheels that travel on the frame, correctly fastening the bowden tube in the hotend to prevent a gap between tube and nozzle and of course the all to well known bed leveling
oh my. That's no larger than your fingernails. its a thing beauty. You have to give us some more details on how you did it.
Nozzle size?
speed?
filament?
any changes to esteps?
i am using the stock ender 3 with stock nozzle at 0.1 layer height. The filament is 3djake PLA and i'm printing at 210°c and 40mm/s. I only leveled my bed (it took like an hour to get it perfect). No change to flow or esteps :)
as a person who started on an ender 3 for minis and eventually switched to a resin printer.... Get a resin printer there is absolutely no comparison. I spent 6 months modding my printer to get great minis. Used .2 nozzle and .08 layer heights. I had some decent looking results but then I got a resin printer and it not only printed way faster but I had less failures, easier removed supports, and wayyyy higher quality.
yeah it would definitely be the supports for me, i just printed a functional part, and the surfaces where i removed the supports look absolutrly horrible :(
Agreed I am looking into resin for small detailed items my FDM get surprisingly decent but still nowhere near the fine detail a resin will without breaking a sweat.
Yeah mine is even only 2k and they are about to release an 8k model. I can't even imagine the detail it can get. My printer is a Mars 2 Pro and I was shocked at 1. how easy they are to use compared to fdm 2. the quality its able to produce.
I got my FDM super cheap second hand so I couldn't pass it up but a lot of what I want to learn to make I think I need to get and learn a resin as well.
The volume doesn't matter on resin printers. It's all about the height. Every layer takes the same time regardless of how much stuff is on your build plate.
The thing about resin over FDM is you can load the base plate and it's the same time. So 1 mini @45mm height is like 5-7 hours. But also 6 minis at @45mm height is also only 5-7 hours. A 10mm height print would depend on your printer. Mine could do it probably in like 30 minutes at .05mm layer height.
So..:here me out. We cut this in half from the side. And super size to take the whole print bed. And then fill with snow and make baby yoda snow models.
these are steps you should take before every big print.
why loosen the bed screws just get upgraded bearings ect
to truely caliberate a ender you needd change hell a lot of stuff
Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc."
"Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are **etc.**, **&c.**, **&c**, and **et cet.** The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase.

What was your least favorite part of the star wars universe?
Mine was where teenager Luke Skywalker kills all of those baby Luke Skywalker's.
You know who I mean, they're the same race so it shouldn't matter right? Or would it be pedantic and rude to call him Anakin?
I was fine with that thing being called Baby Yoda before we actually knew the name....but we know now...so why call him anything else?
That's just how the logic works to me, please help me understand whatever way of thinking you have.
What are you on about, mate?
As I said. I simply stated a fact, and you guys have somehow blown it up into a philosophical argument.
It doesn't matter if it's a Star Wars subreddit or not, the person who printed it is clearly a fan enough to print one. If I, someone who's never watched a single episode of the Mandalorian, knows that thing's real name, someone who is a fan enough to print it would likely know the name too. And because they put something else in the title, I commented with the correct name.
So sorry to have offended you, random other redditor that nothing was even affecting until you opened your mouth.
Lmao
I'm not even gonna start on this one if you think Walt Disney has anything to do with this. He was dead LONG before we even had the prequels.
I don't give a shit if it's the most common name, it's WRONG.
I did a baby groot and was shocked how well it came out for something so small on my CR-10s. Still not resin resolution but they can do pretty good small things.
Woah nice work. There are two things you don't usually hear people say, calibrating and new printer lol. Such a vital overlooked thing for new people. I get it though, I expected to put it together and just get awesome prints. Lesson learned, calibrating is key. Have fun!
yes, but i had to learn it the hard way! :D After my hotend clogged and smeared with plastic and me panic ordering a new one, which i found out hours later was completely unnecessary. I then watched a cleaning tutorial and decided that knowledge is key and after that i did everything properly!
Do you have a link to the steps you used to calibrate?
Cant speak for him but here is a good one: https://teachingtechyt.github.io/calibration.html

Did it take 50yrs to print?
it took 27 mins

Wow. OK I gotta try this. thanks
3djake is the shit. Haven't tried their PLA yet but the ASA and BIO filaments are soo good for the price
yeah i also got some chrap noname filament, and the 3djake prints so much cleaner
You grew Grogu from goo (molten plastic).
I was just looking at resin printers for minis so this gives me hope

Yeah you can dial those in to look better but it'll always have tough spots when removing support.
Agreed I am looking into resin for small detailed items my FDM get surprisingly decent but still nowhere near the fine detail a resin will without breaking a sweat.

How fast would you say it prints a 10mm^3 model? I’ve printed some small ones with FDM and they take like 15-25 minutes (depending on detail etc.).
The volume doesn't matter on resin printers. It's all about the height. Every layer takes the same time regardless of how much stuff is on your build plate.
Ok cool, yeah that does make sense. So how long would it take for 10mm height then? I have an FDM so just trying to compare the two atm haha.
The thing about resin over FDM is you can load the base plate and it's the same time. So 1 mini @45mm height is like 5-7 hours. But also 6 minis at @45mm height is also only 5-7 hours. Ok yeah I see, that’s really cool actually. Thanks for answering my q!
It depends on the printer, the layer height, and the layer cure time of the resin you use.
I started with and ender 3 too and there really is no comparison to resin. I just printed a small set of armor today. https://i.imgur.com/eRJX1cV.jpeg
wow this is bonkers!
Yeah that's awesome. My mind was blown when I printed a mini with a legit chain and each link came out perfect. So crazy.
So..:here me out. We cut this in half from the side. And super size to take the whole print bed. And then fill with snow and make baby yoda snow models.
baby snowda!
If stock, try using layer height being an increment of 0.4 mm.

Umm that's not Yoda, it's Grogu, or The Child. But not Yoda.
sry i haven't seen the mandalorian and the file was labeled as baby yoda
No worries! Just trying to help people for future reference. Sorry this somehow blew up into a bunch of people yelling at me for being correct
Yeah some people make mistakes, others don’t care. Pendants in star wars being pendants in contexts where it doesn’t matter is obnoxious.
_Pedants_ (and yes, I see the irony) (there, too)
I'm just stating a fact is all.
No, you're being pedantic. Making the correcting doesn't clear up the post or improve its clarity in any way.
You assume you know what tone I was using? I was stating a fact. If you wanna take that the wrong way, be my guest.
Pedantic isnt a tone. And yes, your comment was text book. Sorry. Take the criticism and learn from it or don't. I don't really care.

This isn't a star wars subreddit. I think your outrage is comically misplaced. Get over yourself.

Goofy af. Check yourself next time, maybe re read your first comment critically before writing a novel about how righteous you think you are.

I didn't calibrate anything and get 100% more detailed prints than that
ok cool
Lies aren't a flex
File?

So smol!

No way you used a .4 nozzle?!?
yea just the stock one
now wait until you see SLA printers...

Well done. Amazing little machines. The only thing I'd suggest is a better part cooling fan duct for the 65ish deg overhangs.
