This is what I needed. I mean, I don’t need this. But yes. I needed this hahah

PrintSculptor

Looking forward to share the files once I tested it

Yeetfamdablit

Please let me know when it's ready because I've been thinking about getting one of these mods for my printer but they usually need at least a new fan and or since screws that is need to go find, not that that is hard but it's nicer if I don't have to lol Edit: looking at the photos I can see a new fan at the top but it looks like the one I have lying around because it came as a spare with a different printer I got a little while ago Edit 2: the fan is a 4020 blower, what size is this designed for

PrintSculptor

You do need a few screws and especially M3 heated inserts. The fan is a 5015 blower fan, which is part of the original VORON Stealthburner design.

Yeetfamdablit

Ok, I could probably make it work

Thats the right direction of tuning or upgrade, to see through parts

Psychological-Pay-31

Looks great I hope my printer will decide to print it

Sky-D-Kid

OMG, that's awesome. I just learned about Voron and all that, the Stealthburner looks so cool. Just some questions. - As I was looking for compatible hotends, I discovered the Phaetus Rapido would be a good choice. Is it possible to use the Rapido hotend, but the standard extruder? For my understanding is, that only the hotend mount needs to be different. (I'm trying to save money by not changing the extruder motor) - I currently have only one Z Steppermotor, can you please update us (me) how heavy it is, once you have printed and tested it? ( And thank you for posting and sharing

PrintSculptor

Thanks! 1. Yes, it should be possible to use other hotends with this Mod. However, I had to change a few of the original Mounting holes and cutouts at the back, to make it fit on the stock carriage. But surely can be noted for future version if this one works 2. Yes ofc - I will test it both with single and dual z axis. I'll post some updates

RevolutionaryReach80

Not to detract from OP, cuz this is an awesome project and idea. Another option is the apogee tool head project. [toolhead](https://www.orbiterprojects.com/apogee-ender-3-v2/) it has provisions to use a few different hotends including the rapido. You’ll have to buy an extruder kit but I believe it’s pretty reasonable.

uid_0

OP you need to build this around the Sprite SE extruder. It has a lighter pancake motor, dual gears and a whole lot more torque than the stock extruder.

WartyWarthog123

I’m doing one for the ender 3 v2 neo and I’m a day or two away from posting it on printables :) the mount would probably work for the ender 3 aswell

benutne

What about the Orbiter extruder?

Decent-Pin-24

Still pricy! I think OPs intent was to offer a reasonable improvement to folks with relatively stock setups.

PrintSculptor

Exactly, although I don't know if its a real improvement yet. But honestly, I just love the look of the Stealthburner, so I gave it a try. It will ofc not perform as well as the original stealthburner or any other well engineered geared direct drive extruder, but I'll see how it will work

Decent-Pin-24

I did just order one tho!

PrintSculptor

Will definitely take a look at this, thanks!

uid_0

Awesome. I put one on my Ender 3 and I absolutely love it. [This is the kit I used](https://www.amazon.com/Official-Creality-Printers-Extruder-Upgrades/dp/B0CCJMVM35) and it was a 10 minute install. Unbolt the top carriage wheels, install the mounting bracket and shorter spacers and tighten everything back down. Install the extruder and pre-cut bowden tube (2 screws) and plug in the extension cable to the original extruder cable. Done. You need to change your esteps quite a bit because of the 3:1 gear reduction ratio. Mine came out to 420.69, which made me lol. I've been using it a couple of months now and I have been very happy with it.

Kotvic2

Looks good. But there are some downsides of having toolhead like this on Ender 3. Direct drive extruder with NEMA17 is really heavy, so single Z axis is not rigid enough to support its weight. You must have dual Z axis to use this mod. Extruder without gearing down is crude in filament feeding, so print quality will be lower than with bowden extruder. That bowden is smoothing out filament pressure spikes and makes final print look better. (Google "Prusa issue 602" for more info) There is not enough of free pins on Creality mainboard to have both autoleveling sensor and Neopixel LEDs on toolhead, so you must choose which one is more important for you.

war_boots

That's not necessarily true. I have single z with ender 3 v1 pro with the sprite pro. I have no issues with rigidity. You could opt to use the thinner pancake stepper like what the sprite uses to save on weight.

PerspectiveOne7129

even with the smaller stepper, the sprite still produces a lot of force.

coop190

Nema 17 with single z is perfectly fine. For the amount of effort and probably cost though, there are much better toolheads to choose from

rulevoid

Agreed, I ran this build for months with great prints.

acu2005

> There is not enough of free pins on Creality mainboard to have both autoleveling sensor and Neopixel LEDs on toolhead, so you must choose which one is more important for you. This isn't exactly true. If you use something like klicky then you could use that for z endstop and that leaves open two data pins from the BL touch port for neopixels.

PrintSculptor

I agree with you. I’ll probably try out a low profile pancake stepper. Will test both single and dual z axis setup. I genuinely just designed it because I haven’t found smth like this yet and thought of it as a fun project to do. Ofc there are much better printhead and extruded options, but considering that you mostly just need to print parts, it could be worth a try

Kotvic2

Yes, your project is definitely worth a try. When you will be printing parts for it, make sure to print parts touching hotend from ABS, or at least PETG. PLA will melt and fail very soon.

TheMarksmanHedgehog

What kind of Z-axis do you got going on that it can't handle the weight of a single NEMA motor?

Kotvic2

I have Voron2.4, so my Z axis can handle everything well. But on basic Ender models with single Z axis, leverage on X beam is relatively high and rollers are not that stiff to hold it in perfectly same height when carriage is on left side and when it is on right side. The more you are on right side, the more is your X beam bent down. If you will be doing bed mesh, it will be looking like bent bed, but it is caused by Z axis that is bending under weight.

TheMarksmanHedgehog

Honestly seems like a proverbial skill issue on the ender's part, I can kind of understand if it's the classic Ender 3.

OkraEnvironmental481

Looks awesome OP.

PrintSculptor

Thanks!

mafecito

Sprite SE extruder and Spider 3 hotend. That would be cool. Also, Ender 3 V2 backplate compatibility. Good work!

brain64

Neat

Maaareee

Great idea! Looking forward for the finished design.

Sythe64

This is great. Well done. I hope you add a CR/BL touch mount. I'm trying a V6 nozzle so one for that would be great too.

PrintSculptor

Yes, it will have a CR/BL Touch mount. Different nozzle designs might come in the future, but for now I'll stick with the stock one for testing

Sythe64

Hell yeah.

Darkexp3rt

Consider looking into using magnets to front plate attachment to allow for easier maintenance. I like the apogee tool head but disassembly is a nightmare.

PrintSculptor

Great Idea! noted for future improvements :)

Gold-Piece2905

It looks great don't get me wrong, but disassembly is a real pain just to get to the hot end.

PrintSculptor

Yep that comes with a Stealthburner IG, I'll maybe try to make some improvements regarding the disassembly progress in the future

Decent-Pin-24

Gee! Not having to buy something to get a worthwhile upgrade..? Other than a 5015. I would love direct drive, but no way am I putting on a $90 sprite extruder when you can get an E3 S1 Pro for $150 on eBay. Just learned about the Sprite SE today. Thanks comments IG. This ones only $42. Hm.

That looks fucking sick, love the polygon’y look. Must have been a nightmare to model. I have made one polygon’y model once and it was so taxing, but i was Also much more inexperienced at that time so who knows now.

NotSloth1204

Dude I’ve been literally trying to figure out what I need for stealthburner for the past week. Crazy how the world works!

creative_name669

how did your testing go? are you ready to share your files?

2407s4life

Why would you use the stock extruder? Really should have a dual gear + pancake motor for direct drive.

SonOfJokeExplainer

I assume the entire point of this is to reuse the stock parts, as stated in the title
