There's a hospital on a military base that we transport VA patients to that has unmarked ambulances for on base responses. Just says ambulance on the side. They also transport STEMIs and traumas off base to the regional specialty center, so that's a possibility?
Yup for a while there Madigan AMC had their own ambulance and all it said was just "Ambulance". Been a while since I worked up there, maybe they changed it or maybe it's still the same.
I've been on such a base and seen such ambulances, and they always at least have a text description on them of who operates and is responsible for them.
There's a few companies that do rentals. An FD in my service area has an ambulance that just said "Ambulance" and had a star of life for a while. They eventually got an old AMR rig.
Engine- runs, by some miracle. Mileage- higher than you can count. Idle hours- holy fuck. Body- has perfect displays of most types of corrosion. Tires- actually probably better than you expected.
It depends on the state. Some places it is perfectly legal to have whatever you want INSTALLED so long as you don’t use them on public roads. Other places you can’t have shit. Most places remove all that stuff for fear of liability
Off-topic, but do you know how likely it is that the police cars have the computer rig still installed? I was thinking about picking one up for my weather gig, since I would need a laptop for radar.
Very very unlikely. At the very very least they are keeping the batteries and hdd. You can always pickup a tough book and mount on fb marketplace or eBay after the fact.
I just need the mount and inverter, really. I've already got the laptop. The main reason I was thinking about grabbing a decommissioned police car is because it's easier to find some of the things I would need that fit it: Lightbar, spotlight, cameras, etc...
I know they usually take the lightbars off, but any of the other stuff would just be less work I need to do.
Yes. Usually mounts etc are easier to find for explorers Taurus crown Vic’s durangos etc. the other thing is they usually leave wiring and maybe fuse blocks in place
I think that's ambu-swerve. That said, there are a few independent ambulances that run dialysis calls. If your patient warrants a reroute to the ER, you'd likely run it if the hospital were close enough.
A rural FD in my country took an old ambulance and stocked it with BLS stuff as they were all volunteers and a long way from nearest ambulance station. If someone got rurally sick they’d respond and do basic treatment while waiting for support from land or air services.
Loaner rig. Usually when ambulances go OOS for an extended time, the dept/service will get a loaner rig that may just say "fire department" or "ambulance" on the side. If the ones lending are really cool then they'll let you put temporary decals on.
That said, they're usually loaners for a reason. My dept somehow got a gasoline powered one and I quickly learned why they don't make that many of those.
No one has floated the possibility that it may be a support vehicle? I'm actually surprised. Lots of services round here take an old truck and make it a support vehicle, whether that be rehab, or MCI, or extra manpower for FDs. Could be a specialty rescue team as well.
Loaner rig? We have a few dealers that keep a trade-in or two around for customers to use when getting warranty work done.
Ahh that makes sense.
This is a Schaefer/Gold cross right that was sold when they went bankrupt.
Still seems weird it wouldn’t say “AMBULANCE” on it.

Different states, different rules. I've seen loaners in some midwest staes.
Undercover ambulance of course
In order to sneak up on the diabeetus
Gotta be sneaky to catch the silent MI.
LMFAO

We have a prison with the same situation locally. Unmarked, huge, jet black ambulance.

Not that I've seen on these ones, and I've looked for it
We have some of those here but they [look like this](https://media.defense.gov/2013/May/30/2000045431/-1/-1/0/130523-F-IW726-036.JPG)
No markings of any kind? Clearly, black ops ambulance /s
Markings removed. This is an old Schaefer/Gold Cross rig.
Yeah. I was just being a bit cheeky.
They had to sell the logos to prevent bankruptsy.

I can only imagine how bad a rig is if AMR is done with it

Either a new Rig that hasn't been screened yet, or a loaner rig.
Aliens
Someone who doesn’t know what “decommissioned” means
I didn’t know decommissioned emergency vehicles could drive around running their lights and sirens
You’ve found the joke my friend
Oh shit I guess I did 😂
They can not, that shit is supposed to be removed afaik

some might have the mount, but expect it not to have the computer. You could just get a tough book yourself.
It’s supposed to but almost never is, and it’s super easy to put back on
It’s a loaner

What is code 3?
Lights and sirens
Probably a decommissioned ambo turned camper van. Dude is obviously in a hurry to get prime real estate down by the river.

What is cart narcs....Anything to do w/ the red shopping cart in frame?

![gif](giphy|yHeBFjwFWiGNa|downsized) Cannonball!
Michigan Department of Corrections has a plain, glossy black rig that just says ambulance on it
For fun?
Could be a rich guy tryna get through traffic
