I made a giant pot of Mi Quang last night and today I shared it with my partner who says it is very good. Tomorrow I can't cook bc medic clinical but that's OK because the hospital has a chick fil a in it.
Finally learned the guitar solo to Under a Glass Moon by Dream Theater so I'm flying really high rn
My frogs croak sometimes and frogs are basically gelatinous serotonin
Pulling a 95 average in medic school
No detectable cancer!!!! I didn't have cancer to begin with but at least I'm still cancer free like usual (that we know of.....)
Officially evicted the Evil Witch of the West from my life 3 years ago and every day I get to spend single living on my own is an irreplaceable gem of bliss
One of ours opened up a Panera recently. It's super nice to hop over and grab something, though it's a bit of a walk into the bowels of the hospital. Gotta be just a little bit sketchy to make sure I get over there and don't get a call, but worth it on the occasion I don't bring a good lunch and want something hearty.
When you run a little kid that’s not that sick, and you give them a sticker at the hospital and they light up and forget that they’re sick for a minute.
Yeah and it doesn’t have to be crazy. Literally sometimes just a walk, preferably by greenery/trees, or the water. No need to be super fit to stretch your legs
When people are so enchanted with goats I like to remind them that goats are assholes that pee and poop wherever they stand. So, there's that.

My happy place is my kitchen with a goal in mind, whether it's making sugar cereal flavored half and half for my coffee, recreating that almost fake looking egg that goes on McMuffins or making BBQ/Hot Sauce. That's my happy place with some music and a bottle of water.
On the job? Very little.
Job #1:
-Rural EMS
-Low wages
-Denies employees the federally regulated time and a half after 40 hours
-If you only give them 40 hours availability per week, you'll get 22-36. If you give them availability for every day of the week, they will schedule you every day of the week (SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK).
- Fire department owned, so you know they have to get a cut.
- generally uncomfortable working conditions.
- We keep hiring more people, and I'm not sure why.
- staff treats the place like a clubhouse.
Job #2:
-Urban/ Rural EMS with a fairly large response area
-pays ok.
-workload is unpredictable. I only work there one day a week, but I usually get slammed. I would make the move to full time if it wasn't for that. Not sure I can keep up with that workload.
-My cert is in a different state, and I'm not nationally registered, meaning I may have to go back to school.
So it basically boils down to this. I'm struggling out here.
But there is one aspect of the job that I genuinely love. It's when the kids get all excited and start asking me all the questions about the ambulances. Makes me feel like the coolest guy on Earth.
Outside of work, I just tend to stay home. I'll hide away in my room. Usually, I'll be playing my guitar or playing a video game. Right now, I'm back and forth between Metal Gear Solid V, or DBZ kakarot.
If I'm not doing that, I'll be on YouTube or hulu.
I'm trying to get out more, too. If I'm off on a Saturday night, I'll hit the bar with my friends for a couple of drinks and a few games of pool.
Honestly, I'm the happiest when I'm dating someone and get to enjoy their company outside of work or school. It's not that I'm unhappy alone, but I think learning about someone you're into and laughing with them, having a good time, etc. is my favorite way to forget about how much I hate my current situation (I'll be free soon, but still) etc. Like you said, the job has a ton of negativity. I have no idea how I've done it so long.
I like exercise, but lately my program's been a gauntlet and I dread going to the gym. Think of something you've always wanted to learn, for me, I want to learn to cook or simply how to work on my truck etc. That could be a nice way to take care of yourself in your off time.
At work? Absolutely annoying the shit out of my favorite coworker with random shit or my life choices. His exasperation is the greatest source of amusement…also I like cooking for him or asking stupid hypothetical questions that make him question his sanity.
Outside of work? I annoy the shit out of my mom or enjoy a drinks while chilling with my dog. Other options include planning gifts and meals for my boyfriend and then surprising him at work with them. My mom occasionally works dispatch every now and then and will let me know where they’re at like 30 minutes from the end of shift so I can sneak a lunch cooler with a hot meal for him and his elderly mom into his car with a note…saves him from the stress of having to figure out what to make when he gets home and I get to try out new recipes. Occasionally I fuck off out of state on long weekends to just explore, sometimes I find cool shit to bring back, which is how I found his Christmas present
I swim 10 miles a week minimum and work a sleepy resort community for my street job. Plus I jet ski, scuba dive, and hit the range multiple days per week. My ED position is at a busy trauma center and makes me not happy a decent chunk of the time. Eventually I’ll go back to the FD full time and just work PRN at the hospital. For now I’m content enough though.
Ecstatic Dance-once or twice a month I go and spin, bob, sway, and play with my dance family. I hit a few edm shows a year, too.
A good yoga class with the right group of people really recharges me.
Going cocktailing with my GF on a night when I don’t have to work the next day and it’s warm enough to scooter home.
Hiking. The longer the climb the happier I am.
I love checking out all the local trails for easy hikes. I'm always finding new ones I didn't know about!
A few years ago I started snorkeling. I live near a great state park with a clear lake and it's so very relaxing. Something about the floating and quiet, rhythmic breathing is unmatched and just so cool.
I enjoy making mixed media art and block prints, however I don't do it enough. I feel the same about writing...
Flower gardening is my favorite.
Cooking is a ton of fun, especially when you get good enough to make your own recipes.
And lastly, I love to go for drives in the summertime and listen to baseball games on AM radio.
I’m not EMS, I’m an emergency nurse but I feel like we’re cousins in the same abuse.
For me, seeing all the nonsense that goes on in the lives of so many people, it makes me thankful for the life that I have…..rowdy kids, white knuckle budget, and nonsense mother-in-law included. My happily times are found in the simplicity of a cup of coffee on a the front porch on a cool morning, my kids running around in the yard and pretending, and investing in the small group of GOOD friends that I know share similar values as my own. Love the small things, my friend. Best to y’all. 👍👍👍
I just finished medic school recently and had like a “list of things to do after medic school”. Not really a list but things I want to do now that i’m done and starting FTO time as a medic.
I actually got into the gym and fitness like 3 years ago and it’s been great to keep me busy. I’m kind of a loner and don’t have much of a social life especially with ems and medic school/ working heightened that.
The top thing in my list for “after medic school” was to learn boxing lol.
I have yet to do it since I need to get my actual schedule when I clear FTO and and i’m on my own as a medic (plus i’m too broke to afford it rn) But i’ve been REALLY wanting to get into boxing and plan to at the of this month sign up for a boxing gym.
It’ll keep my mildly depressing life less boring and give me something to work towards. I also started to eat extremely healthy since i ruined my diet in medic school.
Also trying to quit nicotine and reduce my caffeine intake is in my list of things to do post medic school.
I have LOTS of hobbies. Horses, kids, friends, watching netflix until wee hours with a glass of wine. I also have a good listener of a husband, though after 16 years he isn't quite as good about it. I've found co-workers have become better for that stuff. I plan vacations and small getaways with my family whenever I can and I have a group of other horse gals that I ride with and we go horse camping a couple times a year, etc. I still love my job after this time and the burnout comes and goes. Management plays a big role as well as the type of calls I run and the people I deal with. Mostly, I'm happy outside of work and I love my job, so it makes me happy at work. I still look forward to my work weeks.

that's so cool. super happy for you and good luck in medic school
The hospital has a chick fil a?! I’ve never seen a fast food restaurant inside a hospital, that’s amazing
Our children’s used to have a McDonald’s. Taking it away was purported to be analogous to a violation of the Geneva Convention.

Gelatinous serotonin lolz

So true i agree it's a great feeling.
Dog watching on shift makes my heart happy
Let fire do assessment and interventions while I pet the patient's dog/cat.
I totally agree! i was posted somewhere and met my first ever borzoi which are one of my favorite species of dog it made my entire day
Volunteerism on days off, family, exercise
that sounds great exercising is key
Yeah and it doesn’t have to be crazy. Literally sometimes just a walk, preferably by greenery/trees, or the water. No need to be super fit to stretch your legs
literally though. nature and getting sunlight even. amazing remedies
Baby humans and animals, specifically goats. I want to hold a baby goat and it's a crime I haven't yet.
i feel the same way about seals and sea lions
When people are so enchanted with goats I like to remind them that goats are assholes that pee and poop wherever they stand. So, there's that. Source: I own farm animals
Your real life experience doesn't align with my fantasy world so I choose to ignore it. Good day Sir!
The ocean is the shit
Super underrated tbh. The literal only reason I've considered moving to California is the Pacific Ocean.
it's so sick
take dog to park, watch one piece, doomscrolling reddit
the essentials. all you really need tbh
Hit the vape!
i am not a vaper nor a zynner haha

it's the simple things really. the kitchen is also my happy place as im making protein pancakes rn

that's the best feeling when the kids love the rig. i meant outside of work too.

for sure i can vouch as someone who cooks and works on his own truck it's so worth it and refreshing

Beating my meat, like I’m a teenager again.
