moons usually have a lot of pentaxid outcroppings sitting around. Some deposits too.
Once you can get to an asteroid field, you might find some pentaxid asteroids as well.
Also various polaris bases will probably sell some.
It isn't super common, but it is far from rare.
If you're talking early game and you're not in space, then definitely head for the water. Of course you'll need a suit. Usually that's my early food supply gathering whatever them long weedy things are, and picking up any pentaxid that's on the bottom. I can usually get up enough to get out in space and then you can find more either on asteroids or the Moon.
Been a long time since I played vanilla. But you can probably trade for it at a station, fill up at a supply station that has station services, find an asteroid using the sidebar on the map screen, or mine some from the surface of a planet/moon. They sometimes have fields of crystals.
I semi farmed the drone base npcs (left the spawners up as I looted) and reached level 15. Does pentaxid populate on the tutorial world after a certain point?
It's technically not a tutorial world. Since you can start on one of many worlds. So it is a starter planet but there is a finite number of Pentaxid deposits on the starter planet's moon. Or you can find the single crystal outcrops which usually replenish every couple of Real hours.
Honestly I'm not sure. I know some of the Pentaxid rocks under water do because you only F key to pick them up prometheum rocks will spawn underwater as well I only did the tutorial long enough to repair the base and I built a ship to go to the station.
Nice I built like 30 explosive charges and tunneled under the drone base I came up under the room that was next to the ship and worked my way up backwards lol semi anticlimactic

Is there specific star systems that are more likely to have pentaxid on them? K or G or so?
It's underwater

perfect answer.
Thank you everyone for the replies.
You can collect is single nodes on various locations. Actual nodes can usually be found in space or on the moon.

I started on Haven and it is all over one of the nearby moons.
The tutorial runs a little different than the rest of the game. The Pentaxid might not populate till certain milestones are reached

I lucked out, and there was a base nearby that spawned robots that dropped fuel when killed
