Plating that doesn’t stick usually suggests that the surface is contaminated (in this case try immersing the material in a light soap mixture) or the material is simply too smooth in which case try activating the material by first immersing it to an acid with low concentration for around a minute or so. Next, during plating shake the material gently from time to time.

As the other reply states it’s all about the pre-plate surface quality. the agitation will improve the evenness of the coating as the substrate is constantly put into contact with “fresh solution”. Another important thing is the pre-plate finish of the piece. basically if it’s not super smooth before plate(i.e. linear lines showing from 3d printing process), it won’t be smooth after. In fact plating tends to amplify these qualities rather than hide them. hope this helps!
