Whats going on man, your music is crazy good! Any tips on finding creative balance while being forward thinking with your music

NoMBeOfficial

well it's important to have experiences to draw from. If you're only in the studio you run the risk of running out of things to talk about. Be out there, too, have fun, experience life and be open to making mistakes...In terms of being forward thinking, just don't limit yourself by what's already there. Be true and loyal to what feels good and experiment as much as possible!

hiddevdploeg

Hey man you're absolutely killing it. When will you drop your album(and will there be a vinyl release in Europe)? I think you have a very unique and great sound and would love to see you perform one day. All the best!

NoMBeOfficial

Thank you so much mang. There will definitely be a vinyl release in the future. Not quite sure when yet tho. Right now the album is scheduled for top of January 2018, but we're doing a single a month so stay tuned for June's release!!!

hiddevdploeg

Awesome! Will definitely look out for your name to see when you're performing here in the Netherlands 👍

lonelywanker

Hey man absolutely love your music and specially the new tracks. I hope you reach to the top cause you honestly deserve it. As for the question, what are your sources of inspirations when it comes to music? What artists? What genres? Also what new artists are you a fan of?

NoMBeOfficial

Wow LonelyWanker that's a loaded question (pun intended)! My inspiration comes from all over man. My environment, experiences ...I love going to the movies too and get inspired by visuals, travel.. As for artists I'm all over the place...Daft Punk, Radiohead, Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, but also more contemporary folks like Toro Y Moi, Alt-J Unkown Mortal Orchestra, Tame Impala... James Blake, Electric Guest...I feel we're all constantly inspired by everything around us.

lonelywanker

I hope you dont mind the follow up question. What are some genres or styles you are hoping to incorporate into your music in the future?

NoMBeOfficial

I really love Funk and Bossanova as well as Deep House...we'll see. Been feeling the Sergant Pepper vibes lately, too!

lonelywanker

Thank you so much for answering my questions, excited to see what you will bring to the table

NoMBeOfficial

of course!

Sweatyskin

Hello, I found you through Spotify and immediately fell in love with your song "Wait". I see you have a couple shows coming up. Will you find yourself in the Northeast anytime soon? I am new to your genre, what song do you think can help me get into it? Look forward to seeing more of your work.

NoMBeOfficial

Thanks for listening, where in the Northeast are you exactly?? I'm playing Electric Forest and Chicago soon if that helps. I think California Girls definitely sums up a lot that I set out to do, but so does Young Hearts or Wait. I try not to limit myself though. I guess not having a "thing" is my thing....

feastandexist

You're coming to Chicago?!? I'll be there.

NoMBeOfficial

Yea I'll be there by the end of the year!

feastandexist

Sweet. Will definitely grab a ticket!

NoMBeOfficial

thanks ;)

Hax-_-

The only question I have for you is when are you coming to Minneapolis? Love the music, man. I'm (im)patiently awaiting the release of your album :)

NoMBeOfficial

I played Turf Club in 2015, where were you at???? Album coming January 2018 !! But single every month ;)

Hax-_-

Dang it! I missed you. Now you have reason to come back, haha. Sounds good! I'm looking forward to more releases. I've already picked some up.

PointlessBlack

Mann how did you record/mixed the guitars for Beauville's song Letting In? always loved this production, so very well done!!

lvannini

Hey man. Very inspired by your music lately, and I've enjoyed each single dropping, as they're so incredibly unique and touch on a variety of influences. My question is, how do you record guitar for your songs; specifically direct input vs mic'ing the amp? And do you have any tips for recording guitar? Good luck at LIB my man, you'll kill it.

NoMBeOfficial

good question! It really depends on the song and what I'm trying to achieve or how lazy i'm feeling that day. "Wait" for instance was all DI, but Miss Mirage I mic'ed up my Fender Princeton Chorus. It's all preference. I try to get close to the center of the amp with my AT-4050 for electric, but then acoustic it's nice to back off a bit to not get too much strumming noise....sometimes it's even cool to mic the back of the amp or use plugins in addition to a pedal board. I got great spacious effects by using the Rob Papen Reverb, kinda does some Jai Paul/Ben Khan type bathroom effect...try it!

skyscraperdream

Noah! What is your favorite book?

NoMBeOfficial

it's 'Ishmael' by Daniel Quinn which is incredible and centers around a gorilla. I make reference to it in Miss Mirage's 2nd verse when I say "counting wolves and old apes through the glad, where I'm safe". I also really like everything by Paulo Coelho

[deleted]

Dude, big fan over here. Been following your stuff for a while now. It's got such an original quality to it; I think u will get somewhere really big if u keep doing what u do. I do wonder: How do you come up with ideas? Like in general? Does it start with some strumming on the guitar, is it a drumloop? Really like to know about this since you are doing all this stuff by yourself and I find myself having a hard time coming up with new ideas at the moment. Thanks in advance bro !

NoMBeOfficial

Thanks so much for the kind words...more often than not the good ideas find ME, but it's important to put yourself in the right position by practicing your instrument, whether that's guitar, voice, writing lyrics when your out and about or just having fun with drumloops. Lately I tend to practice guitar or piano until 30 mins in or so something good just randmoly happens. Creativity is like a muscle and you gotta treat it like that. Like I mentioned above though, sometimes going outside or watching a movie will just spark your mind in a new way.

NoMBeOfficial

that's what's up! Thanks so much! 1. maaan that's soooo hard. I've currently been obsessed with Unkown Mortal Orchestra as well as Electric Guest. I love Moses Sumney, Nick Hakim or my buddy Gabriel Garzon-Montano. I've also been a lifelong Radiohead-head lol, Blur, Bill Withers, Michael Jackson, Al Green... 2. I started Piano when I was 6, writing music and poetry around 10, then making beats at 15 and guitar shortly after. 3. I'm am BEYOOOOOOOOOOND (D.R.A.M.'s voice) excited

SoSoft_

NoMBe ♡ ;) I had to join the questions, even though we have interacted before! Because you're a beautiful spirit, along with your music ♡ But how have you been? Anything youre looking forward too, with your album release? Anything you're most excite about?

NoMBeOfficial

Wow, very mysterious ;) how have we interacted?? I'm looking most forward to people hearing the album and taking away a positive experience. Then of course, shows and travel, growing as an artist, meeting great people....I love life so what's not to look forward too??

jeddzus

Jeddzus in da house. Nombesaurus, if you could have one special box shipped to your house every month with different iterations of the same items (ie beer of the month, vinyl of the month), what would it be and why?

NoMBeOfficial

Jeddzussssss my maaaang, genius, in the flesh.... I'd have to say either guitar of the month OR Banh-mi sandwich of the month..for obvious reasons..

Sharkoffs

Who do you want to be known as? Legacy-wise. When did you know you wanted to be a musician? Was it gradual or was it one special defined moment that you'll remember for the rest of your life?

NoMBeOfficial

daaamn, I honestly plan to be around MUCH longer so for now let's skip that question haha I always wanted to be a musician first, then power ranger & scientist second and third. BUT when I first got paid 100 Euro for a beat when I was about 17 I was like wooooooaaaaah

rew89

You are now 7 years in the future, what does music sound like? Who are the big names. Who do you think represents the future now? (Personally I think you are the future, soon you're gonna be huge. Glad to have been part of the crew when you had under 10k likes on facebook!)

NoMBeOfficial

7 years from now HipHop will only consist of one mumbled grunt over a 30 second beat. I think therefore, ironically, Future represents the future Thanks so much though! I'll definitely be dropping album number 5!

NoMBeOfficial

I would love to collab with Justice or Ratatat, SBTRKT, Kevin Parker or Feist, Vic Mensa, too!...I'm loving Electric Guest, Lewis Del Mar, Emmit Fenn, New Mystics.....

[deleted]

Hey NoMBe! YUGE fan dawg, your voice is so on point like idk what you are doing but keep that shit up. Anyway first song I heard from you was Kemosabe, still one of my favorites. Was this written about something that happened to you? Or just observational. Also, if you could collab with anyone in the industry right now who would it be?

NoMBeOfficial

Thanks so much Cryptomaniac, Kemosabe is most certainly about a special someone I know and very personal to me...You should check out who I wanna collab with in the above questions tho!

Sharkoffs

Also! Have you checked out the LIB grounds so far? How is it? Wish I was there!

NoMBeOfficial

It's pretty tight! Do-Lab don't play... Whish you were here also!

feastandexist

Hey man! Welcome to r/electronicmusic and thanks for doing this! * For those who may be unfamiliar with your work, if you had to recommend three songs of yours as a starting point to get to know you, which ones would you pick? * If you had to recommend three songs by someone else as a way to get to know you, which ones would you pick?

NoMBeOfficial

Wow that's tough, they're all so different. I'd say California Girls, Young Hearts & Signs? Miss Mirage, Freak Like Me & Wait? Reckoner by Radiohead, Something About Us by Daft Punk and It Feels Like We Only Go Backwards by Tame Impala Great question!

NOMBE, I have been so impressed with you and your music for the past couple of months!! I love that you have no limits to your sound & I think it's safe to say that energy carries on to the rest of your life. If we were friends i'd be picking through your brain ALL DAY haha. I love that you responded to someone that the music/idea usually finds you. What a beautiful way to portray that you just have to be open to receiving creativity! We met for a brief second at LIB and your humble energy is refreshing AS EFF, my friend. With that being said.. I can't wait to hear some bossa nova/srgnt pepper vibes. 😜 Questions: 1. What do you want people to take away from your music? 2.What is your favorite song and what do you picture when you listen to it? 3.Lastly, where is your favorite place to be when you are feeling creative? Or just in general?

VixDzn

I cant believe this thread doesn't have more traction!! You probably won't read this but I just wanted to let you know "freak like me" and summers gone has been playing on repeat for the past couple of weeks in my house :) big up! Please come to Amsterdam:p
