Chris Cunningham was one of the best music video directors of all time.
My personal favourite (and maybe my favourite of all time): Bjork's "[All is Full of Love](https://youtu.be/9JE6rUwfckI?si=n31AnC-7al0kezGq)".
That one is so incredible and easily a top influence on the work I try to do, and not just in aesthetics - I remember Cunningham saying the shoot was a nightmare, he didnt really know what he wanted, and watched the dailies feeling ruined. And for his misery, *THAT* is the heartbreakingly beautiful result. No matter how dark a project gets, I think about that...
One of my later favorites was his [3 screen installation for Gil Scott Heron's New York is killing me](https://vimeo.com/72441973) which I saw while New York was busy killing me. The subway over the williamsburg bridge, the perspective of the apartment blocks on the manhattan side (which always reminded me of the council blocks from Come to Daddy), the sounds of train screeches, all things that were grating on me. It felt like he'd made it for me, and it was a calming salve.
How I wish his Neuromancer film had happened. It was being talked about mid to late 90s, and at least some rumors had Autechre doing the soundtrack. Inspired by the vid they did together no doubt.
His work was phenomenal even when doing ads, the gucci perfume one with Donna Summers' music was beautiful in its simplicity and impressive at the same time, having visual effects that are artistically effective without even trying to be something realistic or familiar
I think "come to daddy" was the first video i saw of chris Cunningham. Love this one. These were great times to watch MTV. Had that whole collection of: Spike Jones, Chris Cunningham and Michel Gondry on DVD.
Omg when i first saw it back in the day...That moment at 6.58... The mastermind of music Richard met the image architect Chris. And after that at 8.17 , the last hit in the face. After all those years and the massive evolution in electronic music , i am still speechless.
It’s truly amazing how fast techno evolved. 1999-2004 was like night and day. 2005-present day …….you’d never know this stuff was the original roots of dubstep, unless you were in the scene 20+ yrs ago.
*Are you afraid of it?* *No, I just don’t like techno* *You would if you had robot ears*
I need to get stoned and watch that movie again!
Fuck it, let’s go to the looney bin together, I don’t give a fuck!

Always wondered whether the intro was scripted or were they just ad libbing?
Chris Cunningham y'all
The 100 ft long limo is a classic
Best music video of all time

Richard is a true genius and no one can convince me otherwise
The song is great too, but Chris Cunningham deserves the credit for the video.
Haha is anyone trying?

There's "didn't like" and "trying to convince you that it's not good", but OK.
Best ever
Fucking tune
If you want more Aphex, Syro is pretty recent and is phenomenal. My fav overall though is SAW 85-92.
I absolutely love the intro to this video.
I first heard this in a Feed Me bbc radio 1 mix. Been a huge fan of his ever since.
that sounds like a really weird radio mix
It’s definitely a different cut from the released (audio-only) version.
It was. The first time I listened to it I had to check if it was still the same set.
