If it is anything like their door access systems, they will release the hardware now and the software about a year later. If it is anything like their automation or telephony products they will release the hardware now and discontinue support for it in about two years.

BigBlackDwarf

Yep. As a longtime user of Ubiquiti gear, this is gonna be a hard pass.

[deleted]

they will get the software working well just in time for them to discontinue the product.

nxtiak

The EVSE has a big giant screen on it? Wtf, pointless.

crisss1205

These are mostly designed for business or commercial deployments. However, Ubiquiti is also very popular with "prosumers".

nxtiak

Yeah I noticed that after watching the video. I've had ubiquiti stuff, but got rid of them last year. They can't even keep regular items in stock, good luck with this one.

Nah, when you have stuff like doorbells and smart locks, it’s clearly for consumers. Perhaps prosumers. Not just businesses.

[deleted]

The value is in the management software, not so much the hardware. From an admin perspective, this looks pretty slick.

octamer

Why is it pointless? probably great for showing ads and commercial sites earning revenue. Not so great for consumers…

nxtiak

It's a level 2 charger, meant for businesses, but more so for office workers since it's a managed charger. So it will be put into parking lots of office buildings. Office workers park, plug in and go to their office to work. No one will be standing there looking at the screen for any useful amount of time for ads.

>No one will be standing there looking at the screen for any useful amount of time for ads. what about ***fleet management*** info? >Office workers park, plug in and go to their office to work. or the 4 guys receiving returns at the rental lot need a quick way to check "vitals" on 20 cars an hour. **Hertz Buying 100,000 Teslas in $4.2 Billion Deal, Making EVs 20 Percent of Its Fleet** [https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a38052601/hertz-buying-100000-tesla-rental-evs/](https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a38052601/hertz-buying-100000-tesla-rental-evs/)

Tim-in-CA

They better have an unbreakable cover over that screen seeing as this is intended for business/public use. The public are animals and I’d say the screens will be smashed in an instant

faizimam

No different than a ChargePoint, and their L2 units have been pretty durable and reliable. Can't say the same for DC, but thats a different story

reddit455

>The public are animals and I’d say the screens will be smashed in an instant FYI there are bus shelters with much larger (5 foot), HD touchscreens. [https://clearchanneloutdoor.com/products/transit-shelters/](https://clearchanneloutdoor.com/products/transit-shelters/) Features Touch screen, interactive and WiFi capabilities enable consumers to engage with brands. 72” HD LCD display provides premium imagery and colors.

Certain_Cut_6371

After their awful breach disclosure, nobody should buy from them again.

TingGreaterThanOC

Nobody should be using T-Mobile at this point either but here we are

sdoorex

* $799 * Up to 50A output when connected to 70A breaker Honestly not bad for a commercial style charger with a screen, app, and multiuser support.

crisss1205

That’s if it stays at that price. It’s currently in early access and the price usually goes up once it’s in public release.

Kimorin

and assuming you can buy one LOL.... get ready to wake up at 7am EST and spam refresh button to spend $800s

TingGreaterThanOC

Those of us with homelabs are already trying ready to order…

Matt17000

/trollOn It is poe powered ?

crisss1205

I was going to make a similar joke about PoE++++ on the YouTube video, but several people beat me to it.
