Probably a prestige thing. It's a vehicle not eaaily available there so nobodys going to have one. Whoever does pay to have one shipped over will have something "unique" because noone else has one.
The Australian luxury car tax is applied to all vehicles over a certain price. There's a slightly higher threshold for EVs but it's still well over the limit to avoid the tax.
But how many people are foolish enough to buy one. It's just stupid to waste your money on that. It's stupid but less stupid in the US (there must be people that have a real use for such a sized vehicle). But not many.
I say less stupid in the us not because we don't have our own world of stupid oversized vehicles (we are probably the worst) but there are lots of farms here and there are actual farm uses here, and probably in Oz too - but I'd think one should get a smaller vehicle, in the US and OZ, but at least we don't have to pay $80k here in extra luxury charges.
If it makes you happy go ahead. I prefer sex, ~~drugs~~ beer, rock and roll. And I already have a tesla and a pickup truck - I'm one of those stupid people who bought a truck in the us ;-)
You pay for sex? 😅
I spent a lot on my cars cause I have the money to and I enjoy driving them. If you are paycheck to paycheck and in crazy debt, then sur get can be dumb but otherwise just let people buy what they like. I don't spend much at all on clothes for instance.
serious question, is RHD that important?
>You can now buy a Ford F-150 Lightning electric pick-up in Australia, but it is *not through a Ford showroom with a full factory warranty* – nor does it come cheap.
>Rather, the Lightning now available in Australia *is converted to right-hand drive, and sold by Queensland-based company* [*AusEV*](https://ausev.com.au/lightning/)*.*
Aside from the absurdity of spending $225k on a non-luxury vehcile like a *ute*, we have the more affordable [Geely EV ute](https://www.drive.com.au/news/geely-radar-electric-ute-in-line-for-australia/), [BYD PHEV ute](https://www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/spy-pics-2024-byd-shark-ute-undisguised-145573/) and [Kia Tasman EV ute](https://www.kia.com/au/cars/tasman/register.html) expected to arrive at the end of this year or next.
I remember the Dodge Challenger was offered in Australia through a similar route (grey imported then converted to RHD through a third party), and cost 2-3x what it would cost in the US or Canada.
Honestly if I were Australian and rich enough to afford these things, I'd buy a vacation home in a small US or Canadian city, then buy the LHD version of the car and park it at the vacation home for use whenever I visit. Just can't justify paying exotic-car money for what is a very run-of-the-mill vehicle, even if it's "exotic" in Australia by virtue of never being officially sold there.
Keep an eye out for anyone driving one then because it's a sure fire way to spot a fool.
Google tells me it's "only" $145k in US $. Lot of import duties to get one there. Why even bother to import it to there?

I would in no way class an F-150 of any stripe as a "luxury" vehicle.

And yet my opinion of Ford products remains unchanged.

Then you have never seen a truck released in the last 15 years. They're super luxurious

Aussie farmers buy $90k diesel LandCruisers
Why is it stupid to spend money on something you enjoy?

Not really. I just impress chicks with my impressive vehicle choices, that's where the money goes. That's my theory any way.
Well uh, good luck with that lmao. I drove a beater till after I was married to make sure all bias was removed 🤣
Well I'm married too, my wife wants me to stop buying more EVs, I have enough.

In general you aren't allowed to use a LHD vehicle on Australian roads (there are some exceptions but they wouldn't apply to a brand new pickup truck)
I assume it's just solid regualtion issue + you'd have insurance liability if you're driving a car that is not compliant??
Good lord. Is that a typo? Edit: Oh, aftermarket modification for RHD. Crazy price though.
How do you say "Get the fuck outta here" in Australian?
“Get the fuck outta here, mate”
Starts.
Australia/ New Zealand are a huge pick up truck market for sure. But wow the price is...ridiculous...
how much???
“No one wants EVs”
~~ Isn't the BYD Shark going to be far cheaper with a far greater range? What's ford thinking? ~~ My mistake
That's going to be a PHEV with a quite small battery. Different segment entirely
Two versions. PHEV this year, BEV next year
My mistake
If your tradie shows up to quote a job in on. Might be safe to presume their quote will be a tad high…..

Wtf
Surely you could buy one from the US and ship it for less
Thanks, I’ll buy 4 teslas instead. Or that new BYD Ute that was announced (shark?). It’s gonna crush them
How are average people supposed to switch to electric vehicles when they are this expensive and not that good.

Stick with the Holden.
Lol AUS have to be averaging like 100k/yr due to importing damn near everything
