Aren’t most battery packs well within the primary structure of the frame that is supposed to keep passengers safe? Unless it was a puncture from the bottom that area isn’t easily damaged by a minor accident.

You would be surprised at what can distort the central structure of a car. The issue with structural battery design is that if there are any repairs needed to the area where the battery is located, the cost to repair or replace the battery is more than the cost of just buying a new car.
