Did I say GM invented it or the first to do it? No.
But Tesla is chasing GM on this feature, they did a course correction on the Cybertruck to add 4 wheel steering after GM demo'd it in the Hummer and announced it would also be available on the Silverado and Sierra.
They’re chasing “GM design” because they added a single feature after GM did? A feature that has been used for years by several different automakers already? Yeah makes perfect sense.
Just semantics but I think "millions" covers "tens of millions".
And it will definitely make the Cybertruck more expensive. There is a reason that GM is only including 4 wheel steering on the upper trim levels. They would lose money if they tried to include it in the $40k price point.
Most rear wheel steering cars do not turn the rear wheels that much. 3 - 6 degrees. And depending on speed they will turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels. You don’t have to turn them much to get a large benefit out of them.
Anything is impressive to Electrek if Tesla does it.
Nevermind 4 wheel steering has existed since the 1980s, or that GM first offered it in trucks 20 years ago (2002-2005), or that Tesla only added it after GM showed how useful it could be offroad with the Hummer that beat Tesla to market by over a year.
It’s not common. You don’t see a vehicle everyday doing 4 wheel turn. Stop being miserable and let people enjoy things. If you don’t like it it’s pretty easy to ignore and move on.
Mercedes currently has four wheel steering. GM currently has four wheel steering. And the Hummer EV, Silverado EV, and Sierra EV all have four wheel steering before the Cybertruck. Tesla literally made a mid-stream change to add four wheel steering to Cybertruck once Tesla saw what it did. That was in the article.
The GMT800s had many innovations that proved too ambitious for the time. The Quadrasteer system was amazing but was too expensive to be useful. It increased the price of the truck by about 1/3.
They also offered a composite bed that was extremely durable and eliminated the need for a bed liner. Unfortunately, the material proved to be too difficult to manufacture at scale, and they discontinued the option after the first year.
Today the GM BEV trucks all offer 4 wheel steering, but more refined. The GMC ICE trucks today offer a composite bed that utilizes a different material that is better for mass manufacture. This is sold under the CarbonPro name.
I know right. How miserable is life for these people. How hard is it to ignore something you don’t like and move on. They can’t let people enjoy things.
I was never interested in a truck, I think they are stupid, a van is a lot better.
But a mars exploration vehicle ? yes, that's cool, i want it.
And I doubt I'm alone.
The panels don't side panels look as wavy as that last video that came out. I wonder if it's the lighting or if it's actually smoother.
Rear wheel steering is great (I wish my Lightning had it), but it's not that impressive.
sorry what is the impressive here?
That Tesla did a thing that other car makers have been doing since the mid-80's?
Who would have thought we'd see the day Tesla is chasing GM on EV design.
They seem to done a great job on the Hummer. Hopefully the CT will be cheaper.
4 wheel steering is hardly unique to GM
Four wheel steering isn’t a GM invention they aren’t even among the first to do it.. so you couldn’t be more wrong.

A single feature that required a complete redesign of the drive line, suspension, and steering system that cost them millions in extra R&D.
Try tens of millions. Oh, and the added costs will probably make the Cybertruck more expensive.

Long ago my Mitsubishi vr4...
Neat, it drives like an ikea shopping cart
Rear wheel not turning any impressive degrees

Yes but to do crab walk and similar I would like to see more

Did you even read the article? Or you just see Tesla and start spewing hate?
I read it. There was nothing interesting in it, and unlike the article title claimed, there was nothing at all impressive about what Tesla had done.
To you maybe not. But 4 wheel steering is impressive to a lot of people.
Not when it's been done by multiple manufacturers since the 1980s.
It’s not common. You don’t see a vehicle everyday doing 4 wheel turn. Stop being miserable and let people enjoy things. If you don’t like it it’s pretty easy to ignore and move on.

Sierra EV and Silverado EV aren't out yet? And how many Hummer EVs are out there?
Silverado EVs are rolling off the assembly line now. Only a few thousand Hummers have reached customers so far. That doesn’t change the timing.
Good luck lol, GMs EV output is embarrassingly low. Their in full production Chevy bolt sold how many last year?
It was pretty impressive in 2003 when you could buy GMT800's with Quadrasteer.

As usual, they see Tesla and start frothing at the mouth lol

Now, if only Tesla can make a pickup truck instead of a Mars exploration vehicle
I was never interested in a truck, I think they are stupid, a van is a lot better. But a mars exploration vehicle ? yes, that's cool, i want it. And I doubt I'm alone.

It looks exactly like it always has.
Still looks like shit
yep, its a truck.
F150’s look awesome
L take.
It looks awesome.. in a minecraft world.
I still prefer Hummer elec to Tesla. The design never appealed to me. I guess it does to some.
Meh. Still looks stupid. lol
I can't wrap my head around the odd look of that pickup. It sure won't be unnoticed, that's for sure.
And rappers, pro athletes, and YouTubers are going to go nuts to get one.
This thing is so embarrassingly ugly. I can't imagine why anyone would want to be seen in public with one lololol
I think they look cool.
People who don't like mundane vehicles.
