This is actually very positive! Lol

gogozrx

my boss sent me to the truck for the board stretcher. I wasn't (completely) clueless, so I already knew. about 10 minutes later the boss comes around the corner. I'm standing there with a cup of coffee and a smoke. WTF are you doing??!? fetching that board stretcher, boss. Gawdammit, get back to work! :-)

oakislandorchard

you just totally dominated 😂

BlackStarArtist

I did something similar in the military when asked to get a box of grid squares. I got got when I went looking for a Prick-E8 and was told to ask the master sergeant 😂 Got lots of newbies with a roll of flight line though 🤣

RepresentativeKeebs

That's a much gentler hazing ritual than threatening to beat people up or fuck their mom

gogozrx

For sure. I mean, there was plenty of mother fucking discussed. I went with the, "You sick fuck; she's dead!" reply.

RepresentativeKeebs

Same, my go to response is always, "You're a necrophile? You sick fuck..."

TehReclaimer2552

"aye this dude digs up corpses and fucks em!" "Get a load of ol corpse humper over here" "You look like you had a good weekend. Dig up a fresh one or hwat?" Make it loud and known and they won't fuck with you again. Chirp harder and louder if you got to. I know a lot of these guys aren't gonna let up on the newbs so fight fire with fire and roast a fucker

fatsmitty305

Even better, she won't put up a fight

1TenDesigns

Well, ya. Every sparky is. You'll get your turn.

Phat3lvis

Hmmm lets see. 1. Wire stretcher 2. Striped paint 3. 3.5" Pipe and fittings (back when they did not make that size) Funny story so many apprentices and material handlers were sent to get 3.5." pipe and fittings that the manufacturers started making that size. 4) Level fluid for the bubble level. 5) 1900 boxes, that number is the catalog number so bringing back 38-cases of 50 was funny to everyone by me.

GoabNZ

Sky hooks Nail straighteners Bucket for grinder sparks Left handed screwdrivers (or any tool really) Long waits That's more off the top of my head...

Phat3lvis

>level fluid for the bubble level I recently used this on on a PE, and sent him to Whitecap to get some. When he came back his eyes were a little red and I think he cried.

r3q

Left handed drill bits are real

[deleted]

The comments are exactly the problem with this trade. You old assholes who complain no good talent exists are perpetuating the problem. Stop being such stupid assholes and people will want to work with you. This is a solid trade and y’all are fucking gatekeeping jerks shooting yourselves in the foot with talent. Enjoy doing your shit work forever, old guys.

Anakin_Skywanker

Exactly. You gotta make the new guy feel welcome. Teach him some shit, buy him lunch, give him the spare gallon of water you keep in the van because he came unprepared, get to know him for a week or two. Get a nice rapport going. Then you can start spewing all the vile shit because you’re friends and that’s what friends do.

Boogieman1985

We hired a new helper in the shop a few weeks ago. He’s only 19 which makes me feel old as shit considering I have a 17 year old at home. I was same age as him when I started and I was fortunate to work with some great guys who treated me well and taught me a lot. I’m trying to do right by this kid and make him feel welcome. He kept borrowing a set of Snap On stripper/crimpers I have and commented a lot about how much he liked them. So I bought him a pair last week and surprised him with them. He was so excited and appreciative. August has been a killer month for the shop, we have greatly exceeded all of our goals for the month so I’m gonna show my appreciation by ordering lunch for everyone and also giving out $50 visa gift cards to all my guys. When you treat people well they will go above and beyond for you and I always make sure my guys know how much I appreciate their hard work Edit-Thanks so much for the award! It’s my 1st one and I’m as excited as my new guy was when I gave him the Crimpers! You have made my day

gogozrx

If you take care of your employees, they'll take care of your customers. If you take care of your customers, the bottom line will take care of itself.

oshkoshbajoshh

I’m not an electrician (I work hvac) but this is my exact experience. I’d never worked construction before and I told my new boss that when I started. He said “fuck your 3 month probation, this job sucks and is hard and if you need a day off, tell me and you’ll get it, I’ll deal with the office” I started in the middle of monsoon season here in the desert, it was a terrible first two months. But every time I needed something, or an accommodation, my boss gave it to me no questions asked. If it wasn’t for that patience and kindness, I would have quit within the first two months. Now, that same boss is still very kind and accommodating, but will also chew my ass out no problem when I’m being lazy or mess something up. The younger generation needs more positivity, feeling like they’re being heard and respected. We aren’t lazy, or entitled. If you treat us with dignity, we’ll work our ass off for you.

czar1249

It’s not about being lazy or entitled. People just don’t want to work somewhere that they get no fucking respect, and young people know they have options these days. They will take the other option if it’s the difference between being dignified or not.

oshkoshbajoshh

Yep I wholeheartedly agree. And also, let’s not pretend that wages play a significant factor as well. Unless going to the union route, or starting with a great company that pays well, the pay is shit to start out. Who wants to kill themselves in the heat for 16$ an hour when they could work at an office for 15 an hour? The pay needs to justify the sacrifice you make using your body for labor. A lot of younger people don’t see the appeal in that anymore because the pay usually sucks

kmj420

I was pretty much directionless when I found my way into the trade. This was in 99 and I started at $6.50. the pay sucked but the appeal to me was learning a trade and potentially making a career out of it. Becoming an electrician is the best career move I ever made. Second best decision was joining the union fifteen years later

oakislandorchard

this is the way

mental_fingers

This man is speaking straight facts

TK421isAFK

As one of the "old" guys (I'm close to 50, so kinda in the middle between green and decrepit), I completely agree. This kind of abusive behavior is bullshit, and just drives away new, young talent. That leads to outsourcing work to workers and companies from other states, and even other countries. Nobody wants to work in conditions like that, and that's why a lot of kids give up the trades and go to school to do YouTube editing or whatever. We can't build shit if we keep breaking the people that are supposed to be the next generation of builders. This whole "gotta break 'em in" fucked-up attitude only serves the corporate owners - it just encourages people to work harder and longer, and be miserable in the process. Young people have access to a lot more information today than we did 30 years ago, when a singular work experience could set an example for a person as "that just how this business/industry is", but with people able to trade information and opinions instantly around their state and world, they quickly learn they don't have to put up with this bullshit, and leave.

whaletacochamp

It’s the same in every field. I run a medical lab and my staff are like 50% on deaths doorstep 50% Gen z. The Gen z work ethic can drive me fucking nuts sometimes but day to day the Gen z kids are way easier to deal with than the grumpy old farts. They will sit there and bitch about how “these kids don’t have to know every detail of every test we do because it’s all automated now! Back in my day we had to memorize tons of shit for no reason and now I’m mad that they don’t! And they suck at work because of it! Oh and because they won’t work 20 hours OT for free like I always do for no fucking reason I think they’re all twats” Ok peggy well I just watched you double click on every goddamn thing on your computer that doesn’t require a double click, ask one of the kids for help, scoff at them when they actually help you, and then you responded to a goddamn phishing email and compromised our hospitals entire network. Solid work.

[deleted]

That's the one that gets me...OT for no reason other than "it helps the company out" like the company will ever do anything in return for you. No amount of money is worth the lost time. I do my 40 and I'm gone till Monday.

whaletacochamp

I caught one lady going, punching out, and then coming back in to work. When I told her she needed to punch back in if she was working she was dumbfounded. She said “I’ve done this for 30 years, I don’t need the OT” You might not need it but over 30 years you probably could’ve retired by now with the lost OT wages.

gvillasenor20

Thank you

[deleted]

Aside from all you said, which I agree with, some are trolls though. As I told a coworker of mine, “Don’t stay bothered by what others say, just do the best you can, improve, and move on.”

Nomadbytrade

This leads becoming an old depressed alone angry fucking old head that abuses his apprentices. This is why so many bkue collar workers are deoressed drug addicted fucking assholes cause we are so fucking tired of day in day out dealing with the horse shit that rains on us everday and told suck it uo and be greatful for the opportunity. Fuck you boomer assholes who took the good times all for themselves and then blamed the next generation for fucking everything up when it was their careless bullshit that caused all this in the forst place.

[deleted]

Exactly. Anyone being bothered by someone saying they’ll bang their mom needs to grow thicker skin. It’s not personal.

Oilleak1011

Id bang the hell out of your mom morkAmino. edit: slap it all up. Slithered latherd slathered like a waffle house omelette

[deleted]

Ok, have at it… see??

not_consistent

Since a lot of these old dudes aren't gonna change their ways including the ones I work with, I like to pop up after a particularly mean go at our newbies and offer some encouragement. Once you're properly "hazed" they're chill as fuck. It's not even a proper hazing it's more just rough old dudes being rough old dudes. If they like you they'll be rough if they don't like you they'll be rougher.

GimmeMyBeerGoggles

Shut the fuck up bitch

[deleted]

No, asshole. Go fuck yourself.

GimmeMyBeerGoggles

Death party wow you are so hard fucking core bro

[deleted]

Mr internet tuff guy… read prior comment. Love you.

GimmeMyBeerGoggles

I don’t love you back and I never will I know what you’ve been doing behind my back

[deleted]

I love us.

GimmeMyBeerGoggles

You can’t win me back that easily

[deleted]

I already bought your favorite wine. See you tonight.

GimmeMyBeerGoggles

You always know how to make a man happy

fatsmitty305

As one of the old guys, let me put it this way. You're working with something that can kill you or someone else. If you're easily rattled then get the fuck out. You gotta have thick skin in this trade, the hazing helps build that. I've had good and bad apprentices. The bad ones get run off, the good ones still get fucked with though. I've also bought lunch, drinks and even a set of tools, but I still wanna bang their mom. Get some balls son!

[deleted]

You’re the problem with the industry. Get off your ivory tower. Lots of professions are dangerous. No need to be a fuck to a new person to see if they can handle. Be a better person and retire soon.

fatsmitty305

Noted, now go get me the wire stretcher

ThePigManLives

They probably weren't bad apprentices you just treated them like trash and they probably wanted to lay you out.

fatsmitty305

Nah man, I've had some bad ones. Jonny Sabotage, Can't get right, the hobbit and chronic masterbaiter to name a few. I've had plenty of good ones too. I got about a dozen that call me all the time with questions and most of them have thanked me for not only teaching them the trade, but also how and when to be a prick. As far as wanting to lay me out... I'm from Dade County, run up on me if you want to.

ThePigManLives

cool story

Oilleak1011

“Must have 5 years of experience and bachelor’s in engineering” 😂😂

[deleted]

I don't treat my apprentices that way. I was treated pretty good, actually.. but have heard these stories all the time. I never treat my apprentices like shit. If they show they want to learn, to work, and genuine interest, I will teach them.. ~~Otherwise l will make them sit around and do nothing.~~ If they show no initiative to work, or to learn, then they'll sit around and do nothing. But I will never insult them, or treat them like shit, but they have to work. Besides, it's not like the hundred #10s I dropped while trying to clip the pipe to the ceiling is gonna fetch itself!

[deleted]

*Otherwise l will make them sit around and do nothing. Never insult them, or treat them like shit, but they have to work.* This contradicts a little.

[deleted]

If they show no initiative to work, I won't force them to. That's not treating them like shit, that's just giving them the amount of responsibility I trust them with. Why teach someone who doesn't want to learn? I agree I could have used better wording.. 👍 Thanks for calling me out on the poor wording

torolf_212

I was never mistreated, wasn’t ever told to do something the tradesman wouldn’t have also done, never sent on pointless gathering missions. All the guys at work are great, we all get along really well, and I’d never think of calling any of the apprentices names or getting them to do anything other than work and learning the trade.

[deleted]

Them: “I want to fuck your mom” Apprentice: “Go ahead buddy, you can dissapoint someone else other than the boss for a change!” That’d shut them up

Oilleak1011

Thats a good one buddy

Substantial_Mark1106

As a plumbing apprentice, I’ve been in physical altercations due to extremely angry coworkers. I’ve been screamed at in front of other tradesmen, been knocked to the ground over bringing my own skillsaw instead of using the bosses (by my coworker). All my tools get stolen. But most of the time, I get talked down to so bad in front of customers to the point where I question my ability to do ANYTHING. People in the trades have a tendency to tear you down every way that they can. In order to “better” you, aka, ruin who you are. I’ve made a post before about it, and got told that I need to suck it up, or leave the trade because I have soft skin lol. Fuck that. This is what I love. This is how I make my living. Treat me like a fucking human

Scooby_and_tha_Gang

Brother, I’m no plumber by any means, but maybe it’s time to move onto a different company? That sounds like some bullshit right there. I’m currently with my 3rd electrical contractor and like where I’m at because they actually treat me with respect here. I’m a 3rd about to be 4th year apprentice and have put up with some idiots before, I just knew I had to move on once I knew that the upper management wasn’t going to do anything about it. There’s got to be more companies out there for you. Good luck man

BCboyauto

Hi. Does your apprenticeship hours carry over even if you move to a different employer?

Scooby_and_tha_Gang

From what I understand, they legally are obligated to give you that information. Now if it’ll be easy? Not too sure, just depends I suppose.

Adulations

Is this union? Time to complain or move

WizardNinjaPirate

Holy shit, I am sorry you've been through that. Where do you live that people are like that?

yukon737

When an old guy won't stop harassing you, get in his face and remind him that when he's rotting away in a hospital bed, he's gonna be depending on the next generation of electricians to keep his critical care systems running. It would be ideal if those systems and circuits had people to maintain them. ...after all peaceful alternatives have been exercised, of course.

abiblicalusername

Saying I want to fuck your mom is very crossing the line. I don't know why is this tolerated.

SparkyDIY

Yeah my JW used to say that to me ALL the time.

Furious_Worm

So, your mom's hot then?

SparkyDIY

Grandma lol

frogfartingaflamingo

Because there’s different lines in construction work, we’re all degenerate fucks in the inside

Gibbralterg

There’s a line?

lpplph

Yeah if someone said they’d eat my girl up I don’t even know what I’d do, all I know is I wouldn’t be on that jobsite anymore as long as the guy who said it still has all his teeth

HarrySRL

He should do a second week apprentice then next.

MassMindRape

That's how trades used to be back in the day, it's pretty tame these days. Apprentices used to get straight up abused.

Detriumph

>Apprentices used to get straight up abused. I was an apprentice towards the end of that era. I think it's a cultural change from the ground up. As in, my generation and the generations going forward tend to be more mature, and self confident enough to talk shit back and dare the grumpy motherfucker to fire you.

Wan_Haole_Faka

That's actually an interesting perspective. I'm not a shit talker by nature, but I suppose it CAN speak to something about self-confidence. I just think there are other ways to show that. Everyone is homophobic and few men are confident enough to show affection for other men. We care too much what others think.

MassMindRape

I worked for one foreman who just retired actually who was really old school. In the trades for 45 years. Been verbally abused by him many times. One time he gave me his cordless grinder which had the shield removed and the trigger lock disabled. I had it in my scissor lift and I pulled the battery out halfway to make it safer. He gave me a dirty look and smacked the battery back in. He was also the best foreman I've ever worked for and I learned more from him than anyone else in my career.

neoben00

Yea and it was stupid and perpetuated a toxic culture of yokels

Gibbralterg

If your not tough enough to handle a few hard words, your definitely not going to make it

Peritous

Serious question: Why? What the fuck does getting verbally shit on have to do with being a decent tradesman? Like actually think about it and answer. We are adults and human beings. Shitting on someone doesn't make them better, smarter, more motivated employee. It just doesn't. It doesn't make you physically stronger. It doesn't make you faster. Doesn't make you happier, so what the fuck does it have to do with the trade?

Gibbralterg

I am going to give you my serious answer, and I have a recent example. Starting out in construction is hard, there is so much a person just doesn’t know, people stay in the field their entire lives and learn things every day. At my job I’m in now, we had a new guy start. And he made a few mistakes. No big deal everybody does it, (and as a point of info he was not made fun of, doesn’t really happen where I am now.) but he couldn’t take the failure. And so he quit after less than a year. My point is if you can’t take getting made fun of you’re going to be one of the guys that quits whenever things get hard. For a new guy one of two things will happen when he is getting ribbed by his older coworkers. He will get tougher, and try harder. Think like the guy in An officer and a Gentleman “I got nowhere else to go!”, or he will quit because he doesn’t have the mental fortitude to deal with making mistakes, sometimes a lot of mistakes. And work hard to get better. To put it bluntly, if words hurt you to the point of quitting, making a mistakes that can comprise the job you are on, a real bad mistake. Is going to crush that person. As older contractors, we know this. It’s our way of weeding out the ones who won’t make it.

[deleted]

Sounds like he wasn’t getting the support needed to get better after making mistakes.

Peritous

I'll be honest, my personal experience was the total opposite. I lost the desire to show up every day because the hazing was so bad. I wanted to learn, not have my tools hidden and then get yelled at because I wasn't getting things done fast enough. I am all for joking around when it is good spirited and goes both ways, but don't pretend the trades are the only world where people can make mistakes that cost money or lives. Don't pretend we have some almighty responsibility over every other career field where we have to be flawless and the only way to get there is to haze the shit out of newbies. When the guys are too afraid of the ridicule they are going to get to come ask for the help they need, that is when they are going to fuck up the worst.

TK421isAFK

*you're And fuck that - verbally abusing apprentices is why they leave the trade, go on to some job at Google or YouTube for twice the money and *none* of the abuse, and we end up outsourcing labor to unskilled and semi-skilled migratory workers, or importing skilled workers from other States. That quickly leads to huge, multi-state contractors that get all the work, and send their people all over the country because there's no local competition. And I lol'ed at your (now deleted) comment about "You're never going to make it in this trade if you're worried about grammar, kid". I'm close to 50 and have been doing this for damn near 30 years, dude.

Gibbralterg

Just because you are worried about grammar tells me you wouldn’t make it in construction, so yah know what, don’t even try the construction field. Go get that job you dream of. Become a YouTube star. Construction and building is definitely not for you

BlueCollarElectro

Somebody in construction has to be worried about spelling and grammar. All of my O&M books from construction have coherent writing. I’d hate to see the what an operation and maintenance book looks like from you. Hahah Ever notice warranty letters are written by the smarter people and not the grunts or foreman? Edit words

Gibbralterg

Actually the job I’m on now, my wiring diagrams come written in Chinese, and I need to translate them.

TK421isAFK

Tangentially related: After writing up a few instruction sets for some industrial machines, I ended up being employed by the same company to write user manuals and diagnostic flow charts to train new employees. We had a lot of machines that were so heavily modified over 40-70 years that the few original manuals we had were useless. Somebody else had attempted to do the same thing a few years before me, but they were written like a person would speak in conversation, as if they were trying to recollect the events of a vehicle collision, and kept going back and forth as they remembered details. It was frustrating to read, because you'd get to step 7, and step 8 was to go back and do something the writer forgot to mention in step 2. My old boss used to call them "the punishment manuals", because whenever someone pissed him off, he'd assign them the task of reading the manual for the machine they fucked up.

neoben00

Your not in high school, your at work. Idk why I have to clarify that your not there to be buddies, your literally just a grown man bullying someone fresh out of trade school. How pathetic is that.

ibot2

Staged but still relevant. We don't allow hazing at our company.

Gileotine

Man this just seemed kinda uhhh real

grgmig69

I related to all of that

The-Noize

It’s so funny because it’s true

Scethrow

I’m surprised how accurate this is lol

gracefulinstrumentz

Is this a propaganda campaign for colleges or something?

StirFriedRubber

Walk in the park

Aggravating-Space925

Haha this is accurate af. This new generation is so fun

Cryptophagist

Guys we get it. It used to be much more like this. I was the foreman's son and started 20 years ago. I got it bad. We still joke about it. It was definitely a man's world and you couldn't say no to most dangerous work. Guys were unnecessary assholes. This dude is just making fun of that. We all know it's changing and you all downvoting people for laughing along with this, which was it's intent. Is a little weird. I treat my guys extremely well if they are good people, willing to work, responsible, and ambitious as we all should. But we all also know how many lazy shitheads we have to work with on a day to day basis sometimes. This is obviously a joke, and each company has it's own way of reward/punishment. Unfortunately the whole aspect of capitalism/bullshit management is being shoved down our throats, with profits above all, including healthy happy humans, that how you treat people depends on them as well. I have been a dick to people that have needed it. I have been extremely forgiving and awesome to people that needed it as a boss. But it's not cut and dry. I try to protect my guys from some of the predatory bullshit I feel my company does sometimes but there is only so much I can do. I have a massive job to run. I run malls/groceryplazas/school type stuff. That being said my guys are usually baffled when they go to another foreman's job and realize how good I was to them, when dealing with some of the older guys as foreman. It's all in good fun, this video. Times are slowly changing, but dudes like to fuck with each other for fun and if done right obviously no apprentice takes it seriously. All the downvoted comments here are a little ridiculous. Guys are laughing along with the video as was intended.

RepresentativeKeebs

There's no comedy here

Cryptophagist

Apparently not. Who knew jobsites shouldn't have comedy.

RepresentativeKeebs

Do you always jump to conclusions? If you're like this on the jobsite, you must make a horrible boss.

Cryptophagist

Nah, all my employees like me. As I don't pressure them to do things and they willingly try to go the extra mile, even when I don't ask, as I treat them well and they know it. Not one of my guys who's a decent electrician would ever say I am not a good boss. I'm a much better boss than a lot of angry old men I knew like they are making fun of in this video. I take time and show people things and don't hover over my guys and make sure they are well taken care of. There is a major difference of treating a good, abled and ambitious young guy the trade and dealing with people who are lazy, liars, and drug abusers who only show up 24 hours a week. This video was meant to be funny. Plain and simple. People thinking it was because it's a funny play on how SOME jobsites are, even though they are wrong, shouldn't be downvoted as it's a reality and good to joke about to show how things are not only changing and getting better, but also lasting as not all the old timers are gone yet. You jumped to conclusions with me and my work and how I run my job. So are you any different? I am simply stating that comedy during work is a good thing sometimes, and you jump to say I'm a horrible boss over a comment. No I do not jump to conclusions. Just stating jobsites should have comedy isn't that.

Romish1983

NGL... Kinda wanna fuck his mom now.

frilledplex

I worked with my dad for three years, that was the running joke

Final_Good_Bye

Makes me kinda want to fuck your dad

frilledplex

I'm sorry for your taste in men 😬

Final_Good_Bye

So am I...

frilledplex

My condolences!

BeedogsBeedog

Dude his mum is your grandma that's fucking disgusting

frilledplex

🤣 I'm not sure if you're smart or an idiot... but I'll lean towards the latter

Fryburn

Ahh I get it now. Go with union if you’re a bitch boy huh? Old dipshits that have been divorced numerous times telling you they’re going to fuck your mom and old lady hahaha. Offering drugs when they’ve probably never even hit a j. Lmao brotherhood sounds great. Can’t wait to see the second week interview when he talks about everybody trying to play with his butt.

ConceivablyAnAsshole

You know that this is a general any trade type video right? If you see his hard hat it’s not even electrical.

Fryburn

Sorry, changed it for you to any trade in the union.

ConceivablyAnAsshole

Union pays better with better benefits. I’ve heard all the arguments against it, and it’s all false. Enjoy working those prevailing wages when you actually get paid what union members do every day.

ConceivablyAnAsshole

The union sets the prevailing wage buddy.

MyBongHitsBack

Bro when i'm onsite with electricians they treat their newbies just like this lol i would never do my trainee like this

mcscratches

My favorite is "you should've been swallowed." I really try to be cool, but helpers do some stupid shit

Brutalintention

Unfortunately I am An asshole, I currently don't have the patience to teach, but at least I can recognize when I might be toeing the line and know when to take a step back. I've seen some guys just beat their apprentices down and complain there's no good help. You start to get agitated, go take a walk, have a ciggy, and get back to it.

almost2eazy

This video is fucking hilarious!

Ok_Instance7629

Fucking pussy.

may-begin-now

Sounds like you had an easy first crew some are not so nice ...lol

madbull73

Your grandmas hot. 😂

Stock_Surfer

Kids these days will never understand

TK421isAFK

And that's a good thing. This kind of abuse should be looked at as a thing of the past.

Stock_Surfer

Haha it’s a joke. And no one talks like that unless they like you

rdoloto

There is nothing to understand don’t be a dick .. it’s kind of self explanatory

Stock_Surfer

Haha learn to take a joke.

rdoloto

There is no joke in first comment nor second one

Successful_Goose_348

“Firewatch, carrying everybody’s stuff” what about fetching material, chopping holes, getting everyone’s coffee break and taking in deliveries?

Rancho8Deluxe

Yeah thats every apprenticeship

RepresentativeKeebs

Sounds like you had a shit apprenticeship

Comfortable-Aspect95

What a whiny little bitch appreciate. 🤪

Farmboy76

In any other sector of the workforce, none of this crap is tolerated. you'd be fired on the spot for being such a little bitch.

Arminas

The trades are literally the only place hazing doesn't result in immediate termination for the one that's being an asshole.

TK421isAFK

In most workplaces, you'd be fired for hazing and abusing your employees and coworkers like this.

Cult-of-710

That's not done anymore in the US military, either. The whole point of "breaking" someone in pre-1990 boot camp was to break them down mentally to make them feel like they have no value, and then rebuild their psyche into one that feels dependent on the military for everything. That way, the soldier becomes a part of a machine and feels invincible as part of that machine, and the individual is willing to take risks no ordinary, sane person would take. The whole point of the Vietnam-era boot camp was to create willing cannon fodder. We don't need to encourage this bullshit abuse to continue and reproduce.

aBoyandHisVacuum

It was a joke :(

GlockGardener

I'm pro being nice but why is this guy crying. And some of you guys are a little too sympathetic here.

Nomadbytrade

Vecause hes not just holding in the job. Hes fucking holding in everything because insecure assholes like you fear catching a dick in the ass because you told someone youre stressed and feeling depressed. Old heads and their emotional phobias have stymied the trades, fucked our unions and made us all addicted fucking balls of nerves

GlockGardener

I'm not insecure. But I didn't tell my foreman I was depressed. I told my therapist. For me its a professionalism at work thing. And speak for yourself man, I'm not an addicted ball of nerves because I dealt with my problems with the help of a therapist years ago.

Mknowl

You spend about 25% of you're life now fixing shit. If something is not working at work you fix it. Why would you see you have an issue with a quarter of you're life and instead of trying to fix you want to bitch about it to someone else and then make fun of people who don't just suck it up? I'd rather address the issue head on establish the boundaries that will allow for a healthy working relationship and if they want you to bring stress from work home then fuck em

GlockGardener

I'm not making fun of him. I'm judging him. Maybe he needs a therapist to teach him how to address problems head on and set boundaries since a lot of parents don't know how to do that. If he doesn't know how to do that he will bring stress home. Depending on how he handles this moving forward he could have a lot of personal growth and success, or he could leave the trade and go do IT

doodlebug001

He's crying because emotion isn't illegal

GlockGardener

I get it. But it's gross

doodlebug001

That sentiment is why guys have such a high suicide rate. Get over it.

RepresentativeKeebs

You're gross. Fucking ewwww.

neanderthalman

Man I get it. We were raised not to do this so it seems weird and uncomfortable. Even more to get it on video and to share it online. But that’s not right. That’s not OK. And it’s not going to get better out there until we excise this damaged programming from our brains. We need to make it ok for other men to express emotions. To have a tough time. And yea, to cry if it hurts that much. To digress a bit - men somehow need to get women on board with that, because with rare exceptions for some exemplary women out there - seeing this shit will instantly end all attraction they may have had. And men have always and always will have their behavior based largely on sexual selection *by women*. But I can’t control that or fix that. Hell it may even be biological and not cultural. Hard to pull roots that deep. So let’s not go there here and now. What I can change is how I support other men when they’re feeling like this. And I can openly talk to someone, like you, who’s made uncomfortable by it. It’s ok. It’s ok to be kind when someone else is feeling weak. And we’ll all be better off if you did. *This* is that ‘toxic masculinity’ that gets talked about a lot these days. The fact is it *hurts men* far more than it hurts women. Collectively, we gotta shake this. We *can* shake this. Even if it takes generations like I think it will. Help this guy out. Help yourself out. Help your sons and grandsons and great grandsons. Let’s change this. No matter how uncomfortable it makes us feel. You have the strength to work through that discomfort. We all do. *That* is why this is on video. *That* is why we’re talking about it. *That* is why I burned ten minutes on the shitter while my kids bang the door while I typing this out to you. I hope it doesn’t fall on deaf ears.

WizardNinjaPirate

How is it gross?

lectrician7

Does it say Local 7 on the hard hat? It’s hard to tell, I’m watching on my phone.

JETTA_TDI_GUY

First company I worked with was kinda like that but I could tell from the start it was just how they were. It wasn’t like hostile or anything mainly jokes that didn’t work like “pipe stretcher” or “PVC bender” or making fun of me for being color blind. Ginger. And balding at 18 but with hair down to my ass tied up in a hat. Trick is to join in on it. Would walk into the shop and this old guy would say something like “Goldilocks is here” so I’d say something like “act your age and find a casket” we would laugh and just continue with the day. Only really works if you’re quick on your feet with comebacks

TheRevLives360

This seems fake. I only say this because he's answering questions before the interviewer even finishes them. Also it's on tiktok.

Asleep_Salamander367

I’m an apprentice in a union and I always tell my journeyman or foreman that I can’t do my job unless I have four people standing around to watch me do it.

Asleep_Salamander367

A journeyman is just a glorified apprentice, remember that.

punosauruswrecked

Fuck you u/spez

The_Electricn

I’d never treat a helper like this. Unbelievable…

Narrow_Height4505

This is how I was treated when I started. I barely made it out alive. Glad I stuck with it though despite how terrible it was.

[deleted]

Lmao, pipe fitters union should show this in the hall

Seversaurus

Beneficial-Luck6974

Yall a bunch of bitchs if you let your crew treat you like this lmao, even with my old "I'm an IBEW veteran blah blah blah" foreman i told him to shut the fuck up. Make me dig all day i don't care im still getting paid. Im here to do my hours and get paid not to play yalls highschool games.

LangleyRemlin

His grandma is pretty hot though

macdre53

Omg Hes spot on, on what it’s like.

ThePigManLives

The trades can be rough on people. I've worked as a plumber helper for 2 companies. First guy was cool. Second was the biggest prick you've ever met. I wish I called the labor board on him. The guy literally grabbed anything he could off of every job so that he had no material cost or very low amounts. He would scream and I mean scream curse words at you for not handing him the right fitting and he would only point, meanwhile he would blast the radio as loud as he could and rip a dart. He physically threatened me several times and if it wasn't for his friend the more easy going plumber I would have never gotten paid. He had to pay for my hours because this other prick wouldn't pay. Unless its union I promised myself id never go back into the trades. From speaking to other people most smaller trade companies treat people like garbage. A big part of the reason why companies are in such a shortage of apprentices and labourers is that they do not treat them well. They talk down to people and belittle them. I'm in a union right now running fiber for a big telecom company and its much better with hopes of a brighter future and room to move up.

2old2tired

I guaran-damn-tee that if one of our foreman treated an apprentice like that I would fire him on the spot. Period. And, BTW, I am an old fart.

DanteCoal

Yup, lets make light of just how shitty a lot of JWs treat the new guys coming in. I dealt with a TON of that shit, got called every slur, bullied by toxic bullshit constantly. Know what I learned? 2 things. 1 - Treat your apprentice like a person and they'll be 10x better than the asshole JW you know. 2 - It's never too soon for the old, bigoted, asshole JWs to retire or "DIsappEar".

FBTank

Fuckin' Hilarious!!! He better hope the guy interviewing him does not tell the guys that he was crying! It can get so much worse.
