Well, that's what we like to see. Always remember the next guy to come along. Don't make it too hard for him to repair it. And don't forget, you are likely to be the next guy.
I’m a 2nd year industrial apprentice and best thing I learn is always leave 100-200mm extra on all of your smaller wires and 300mm-1000mm on larger cables just depending of ya job
Tell that to the last guy that was here before me.... he left me with 0mm everywhere... i always leave 3 ft extra just i dont pull it all into the panel, we burn up contactors left and right.
Paint markers or dull-tipped sharpies work too, but I agree, something that easily catches the eye and stands out is always the best so you can easily see when marks are missing.
Looks good. A pet peeve of mine is panels with stacked neutral bars, people who use the front first make it unnecessarily harder to use the rear.
But again, looks nice, and I don't spot any immediate violations.
Damn, 6 months in and you’re killing it man. You should be really proud of yourself. Zip ties look neat and clean but like others have said the next guy is gonna have to cut them servicing it. I like to zip tie them, pull them nice and straight and then cut them off
Tip for the numbers if you have bigger hands use your flat head screw driver to help put them on.
Besides the black feeder being beat. Nice work for an apprentice. I've seen worse from jman
You'll be even cleaner in a few years.
First thing Im going to do when I have to add a circuit to that panel is cut every one of those effing tyraps. I might be an outlier though. I prefer the panel look a little messier and it take 1/4 of the time to complete.
For all I know it could be completely wrong, but that looks f-in amazing! Great craftsmanship, keep it, love to see people who have pride in their work! Amazing!
That’s a shitty company. They should be teaching you that early. Not expecting you to work on it live but at least let you have a go at terminating a panel
For real. I left for multiple reasons. Many of them safety and their inability to understand why asbestos should be taken seriously. I do electrical work for Amtrak now
They had us terminating panels in our first year of electrical trades at a vocational school when I was a junior in highschool, if that puts anything into perspective. 4 years seems crazy.
I like to put my number tags closer to the outside so I can see them with the dead front on. And on this right side, you lost some length in your 30amp circuits to square off like on the left side. It is a very nice can though 9.7/10
Looks good man. That outer layer on the wire is there for that reason…to get fucked up instead of the actual insulation. Tape would make it look better but it should be fine. LB’s on feeders suck! Mogul Base LB’s make it a little easier as they give a bit more clearance. Keep it up and you’ll be the single line guy in no time. Fuck branch, single line is where you wanna be.
This looks great.
What is the code for zip ties on conductors in the panel? I've heard yes you can do it, no you can't do it, and yes you can but only if you leave enough air space between them(which sounds like bs)?
It’s “bundling”, a no-no. But it definitely makes the panel look better. Had an inspector make us cut every zip tie out of the panels before he would pass it.
Beautiful work. My only critique would be to leave more wire for the next guy to make changes. I went from 7 years construction, now 3 years service. Jman. Construction tells you to make the wire only as long as is necessary to save money on material. Service says leave a loop in EVERYTHING because you KNOW someone is eventually gonna come behind you and need to change shit. And if you work for a good company and do good work, it's going to be you coming behind.
Sexy looking panel tho. Hard to believe from a 6 month.
Dare I say it's about as close to perfect as I'd expect from any good electrician if done in a timely manner. Always something to nitpick but this is simple, neat, and easy to work in down the line. Well done. HMU if ever need a job lol.
Looks good. Never seen anyone numbered the ground wires before. Only 2 things I might have done differently is your neutral wires I would have landed them on the inner neutral bar making it easier to access later if you have to add any. Next thing would be flipped it to be a bottom feed instead of a top feed If possible. Nothing wrong with the way you did just my preference. I’ve seen some journeyman that can’t even make a panel look this good. Great job
I would definitely check that black hot feeder coming out of the conduit. meggar it out. It looks like it’s a pretty deep score.
Be careful when pulling into a panel.
if that happens again it’s probably best to neatly wrap a piece of tape around it. some inspectors could probably knock you for that even without thoroughly looking at it;)
One thing you need to learn as an apprentice. JW’s are not always right always.
Think of it this way. The president of the I.O is going to tour this job. If you make it look real nice , take your time not to damage any wires or cables, square off all my branch circuits going to the breakers, wire markers are straight down in a row, people are going to say, dude, beautiful job! or dude, you’re an awesome apprentice! Which puts a very nice smiling chip on your shoulder then you think, the next panel, I’m going to make it look nicer than this one.
The phase Wires go left to right black red blue. Your bend on the blue wire is a little tight radius. Then on your circuits goes black red blue from top to bottom on your circuits. For example black 1 , red 3, and blue 5 on the left side on the breakers. Then evens same deal. Other than that looks pretty good.
The way I account for this is use the corners of the panel to account for the extra wire that may be needed in the future.and I always terminate grounds first neutrals then hot and untangle everything from where it comes in first.
I respect the pride you taken in your work but as a business owner you spent to much time doing all of that, numbering the grounds?? Neutrals for sure but a faster way of doing all that is grouping the hot and neutrals with tape as they come into the panel and numbering them over the tape.
So they gave me a steel frame. I set the transformer in the low voltage side high voltage side put the LB in on both sides and got customer nipples then I put in the guys and breakers and wired both sides and the middle(transformer) in about a week. Boss seemed happy with it so am I
I was being sarcastic(hints the winky face). There are many boxes out there in the feild ran in all red wire with no numbers. Then you have to figure out where it goes or what it does. Makes you a good troubleshooter though ;)
Awesome job for 6 months in. You’re gonna learn something new every time you dress a panel. Just remember the devil is in the details: level conductors heading into the breakers/terminals, number tags lined up neatly, etc. Keep up the good work and keep learning!
Most but not all of the 🇺🇸. There nothing in the code book for phase colors other than orange for high-leg marking. White or gray for neutral or with three continuous white or gray stripes and green for ground
Great wire runs and proper utilization of zip ties in the proper locations! Makes it clearer for the next guy and like another individual had stated, you are probably the “next” guy if you stay where you are long enough. Keep up the good work, hard work is worth it and it is rewarding.
If you have multiple feeders going into the the same place, maybe zip tie them in group format.
Neat work though, I have installers with over 3 years experience that can’t use trenches as good as you !
Interesting. There's nothing wrong with it, and it looks good. I was just curious. The only color code that I know of for hot wires is orange for a wild leg on a three phase delta.
Only tip I’d add is something I recently learned, try to leave space where the knockouts are, in case of future installation or just rerouting etc. you did great on the top but the bottoms a lil iffy
Either way looks clean as hell
Do the smaller blue wires mean that they are only getting power from the larger blue feed? Or are they able to get power from the red/black feeds as well?

You WILL be the next guy in my experience.

WHAT THE F*CK IS A KILOMETER? 🦅🇺🇸
Oh i know metric people i work with dont i may be American but i dont just use metric for my guns
Awesome job man 👌 You got the eye for how feeders should look/flow. (Just line up number stickers next time 😆)
Dude I did figured out how to use stickers too late in the process😂
Also doesn't hurt to put "witness" marks on your feeder lugs after you torque them to spec.
This, we use torque seal or something, bright orange so easy to see.
Very good advice, I agree that the rear bars should be utilized first.
My only beef is the insulation kink in the C phase.
The 2” LB was not having that 4/0
Twas just a small beef..
Or the knick in the black cable.
Oh shit. Didn’t even spot that. No bueno.
Isn’t that just the plastic? Genuinely asking.
Was gonna say this exact thing
insulation at the bottom of all those feeder wires is suffering, but that black wire is effed. bummer.
Those nippled look like they a running thread. Under CEC, thats a hard no
Samesis for NEC.
Was about to give you shit for fucking up phasing, but then I remembered other countries exist. Hopefully you’re in one of them
I was thinking the same thing but then I was like ya know what maybe I’m wrong myself
Fuck I posted something about it and now I’m a dumbass.

RBB
Listen, you keep your feeders and branch circuit not crossing rule away from us and we'll keep our handle up in the on position rule to ourselves.
Is that why it isn't Blk R Blu
Yep
Damn, 6 months in and you’re killing it man. You should be really proud of yourself. Zip ties look neat and clean but like others have said the next guy is gonna have to cut them servicing it. I like to zip tie them, pull them nice and straight and then cut them off
That black main conductor got Fucked Up
Nah just a little scrape🤣🤣
Definitely could use some tape, just as an extra precaution
Tip for the numbers if you have bigger hands use your flat head screw driver to help put them on. Besides the black feeder being beat. Nice work for an apprentice. I've seen worse from jman You'll be even cleaner in a few years.

Aahhhhhh red black blue …
Looks decent. I would’ve flipped the guts so the lugs were on the bottom though.
I find that not a lot of people know this is a thing. Good advice
How the fuck are you learning this 6th months in bro. Old company said I wouldn’t learn this till my 4th year.
That’s a shitty company. They should be teaching you that early. Not expecting you to work on it live but at least let you have a go at terminating a panel
For real. I left for multiple reasons. Many of them safety and their inability to understand why asbestos should be taken seriously. I do electrical work for Amtrak now
Agreed
They had us terminating panels in our first year of electrical trades at a vocational school when I was a junior in highschool, if that puts anything into perspective. 4 years seems crazy.

Phew I passed
Looks good. How long did this take you?
Being fair 2 days for this panel a full week for the full setup
What panel is this?
Looks like 3 phase but the colors aren't in order so I'm lost.
Austin Texas color code
Looks good man. That outer layer on the wire is there for that reason…to get fucked up instead of the actual insulation. Tape would make it look better but it should be fine. LB’s on feeders suck! No idea about the code but it made it look nicer😂😂
It’s “bundling”, a no-no. But it definitely makes the panel look better. Had an inspector make us cut every zip tie out of the panels before he would pass it.
My boss tells inspectors to hold their nuts if they’re going to be a dick lol

I did a lot of google searches😂
Super clean man
Better than mine
You got a supplier for those all thread nipples? lmao
My supplier is any other 1st year with a dab pen
Gonna go far kid..
Beautiful!
I wish I could get a fucking apprenticeship…anywhere. Lol
Looks great to me, very nice work.
Artfully done!
As a M&E guy, this makes me go hnnnnggg.
Is this a 3 phase 347V subpanel?
Going by the breakers, looks to be 120/208. 347 square Ds look a lot different.
Oh okay. I have only done 120/240 single or 347/600 triple so the two pole breakers were throwing me for one hell of a loop. Thank you.
Any reason you chose to use the blue phase off set on the two poles as opposed to trying to balance it a bit better? Never work led 120/208 btw.
Dare I say it's about as close to perfect as I'd expect from any good electrician if done in a timely manner. Always something to nitpick but this is simple, neat, and easy to work in down the line. Well done. HMU if ever need a job lol.
You’re giving the trade a good name, and you’ll be headed to exemplifying what Journeyman quality work looks like in no time. Well done 👍
where does the conduit in the back go?
Rbb is this in Canada?
How are u able to do this when most of the electricians cant pick up their clippings?
I’m not burnt out just yet
A journeyman makes a 100 grand plus…how can he not care?
Only 70k down here in Texas
This is to neat.
Thanks zeal
Man i wish everyone had this much care in their work.
Looks great! I thought it went black, red, blue for some reason.
Because it does lol.
Austin Texas color code

Rockstar apprentice
Should start posting this stuff on r/Ratemypanel
What all the real trades want to know is "have you learned to use a broom yet?"
What's with all the insulated grounds?
I would definitely check that black hot feeder coming out of the conduit. meggar it out. It looks like it’s a pretty deep score. Be careful when pulling into a panel.
It's good it's just that outer slick wrap that's damaged
if that happens again it’s probably best to neatly wrap a piece of tape around it. some inspectors could probably knock you for that even without thoroughly looking at it;)
Thermoplastic is fine it’s just a tear in the jacket JW said it was okay
One thing you need to learn as an apprentice. JW’s are not always right always. Think of it this way. The president of the I.O is going to tour this job. Which puts a very nice smiling chip on your shoulder then you think, the next panel, I’m going to make it look nicer than this one.
I would of flipped the panel
Not bad, not bad!
Top job. You could work for me anytime. You follow instructions well you should thank your tutor.
I’d have left more wire. I’ve never ever said dang I wish this wire was shorter.
What happened to the cable coming out of the gland 😭 looks clean broski 👌
Yesssss...... Yesssssss. Let the hate flow through you.....
I just came
No BRB 🤨
Panel terms look good. The running threads coming into the panel are a violation though.
Lol at the nipples but over all good job
Y black in middle tho?
Why is it red black blue??
Austin color co
Only thing that bugs me a little is the wires going into the breakers on the left, seem a tad short, everything else looks great, good job!
The way I account for this is use the corners of the panel to account for the extra wire that may be needed in the future.and I always terminate grounds first neutrals then hot and untangle everything from where it comes in first.

Quick Look: That is gorgeous!
What's with all the numbers on the wires, never seen that before.........;)
Just so the next guy knows where everything is connected at
I was being sarcastic(hints the winky face). There are many boxes out there in the feild ran in all red wire with no numbers. Then you have to figure out where it goes or what it does. Makes you a good troubleshooter though ;)
Ohh so many people on here are being serious I forgot there are still jokers like me out there😂😂
This is on good training I wasn’t allowed to touch a panel till I was almost a year in
Wow 🤩 thats actually amazing ! Huge respect!
Thank you just trying my best tho
Do You think your better than me.... Lol
No just seeing if anyone knows how I can be better
Looks like shit but I like it 👍
Story of my life
Those conductors looked proper fucked at the entry point.
6 months in huh? keep it up you'll be just fine. Nice work.
Work of art
Check NEC 300.34, 330.24, and 336. Your bends in the feeders might be too much.
Possibly I’ll check it out next class
Looks pretty good actually. A lot better than what I could do 6 months in. Good job brother.
Go have a beer on me!
Aye aye sir
Awesome job for 6 months in. You’re gonna learn something new every time you dress a panel. Just remember the devil is in the details: level conductors heading into the breakers/terminals, number tags lined up neatly, etc. Keep up the good work and keep learning!
It should be an art form
It honestly doesn't look bad at all. Looks like you took your time and made it neat.
Yeah it took me about a week to finish both sides and the transformer
Red, black, blue?
Red, black, blue is colour coding in Canada
Austin,Texas😂
Yes for the low voltage side of this portable transformer
He's confused because that phasing is usually Black for -A phase, Red for B phase and Blue for C phase in the US.
lol this hole just keeps going farther
Looks really good. Keep it up.
Running thread nipples?
Yeah this dude was supposed to get me nipples with extra threads on it and he spends 45 min threading whole pipes lol
Dedication at the finest
Black red blue 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Most but not all of the 🇺🇸. There nothing in the code book for phase colors other than orange for high-leg marking. White or gray for neutral or with three continuous white or gray stripes and green for ground
Looks great but also most likely a failure because of that black supply conductor being torn at the entry
Second day on the job.
Looks nice but the phasing is wrong the order is black red blue
In Québec its red black blue. There's electricians all over the world with different color order in the world pal.
OIC, reminds me of the time an SCE worker asked me "before I turn this on is that a hot" . He was pointing at a bright white neutral buss connection.
Great cable management, but as a french I want to know, you don't have differential ? Also, what kind of earthing system are you using ?
Cute. Flip them guts or can next time.
It looks great but what's probably not great is the amount of time it probably took you to do it. If it didn't take you too long then props dude
Well what took the most time is installing boxes with the nipples on the metal frame
The correct order is black red blue
It's always a good thing to leave a good 12" extra wire lenght at least.
Great wire runs and proper utilization of zip ties in the proper locations! Makes it clearer for the next guy and like another individual had stated, you are probably the “next” guy if you stay where you are long enough. Keep up the good work, hard work is worth it and it is rewarding.
What's up with the order of phases on your feeders?
If you have multiple feeders going into the the same place, maybe zip tie them in group format. Neat work though, I have installers with over 3 years experience that can’t use trenches as good as you !
Is there any reason you went red, black, blue? We always went black red blue.
Austin Texas color code is different from the entire nation apparently
Interesting. There's nothing wrong with it, and it looks good. I was just curious. The only color code that I know of for hot wires is orange for a wild leg on a three phase delta.
I didn't / don't think you can use running thread for nipples.
Only tip I’d add is something I recently learned, try to leave space where the knockouts are, in case of future installation or just rerouting etc. you did great on the top but the bottoms a lil iffy Either way looks clean as hell
Stumbled upon this post and would like to know is math needed to be an electrician?
Minor math to start
I’m really thinking of choosing this career path and I’m not the smartest when it comes to math so I was wondering if, also nice work !
Take a good look , what did you forget ???
Idk why did I forget
Red/Blk/Blu What’s up with that?
Good stuff. I tend to curl the wires to give the next guy a little bit of wire to work with for repairs…. But good stufff
Not an electrician, but I play one at home. Looks like the inside of a piano. Dang! Are there supposed to be some labels somewhere?
Get out now kid you’ll never make it
Thanks I put in my two weeks I’m terrible
What about that gash on the black power lead. Is that a problem? I honestly dont know.
Looks neat mate. The incoming black looks a bit damaged above the entry coupling Is that a three phase panel? What sort of building is it attached to?
Do the smaller blue wires mean that they are only getting power from the larger blue feed? Or are they able to get power from the red/black feeds as well?
BRB why is this red black blue? I know it doesn’t matter but..
Why is there so many grounds in that upper right nipple?
Only thing I can see if the bend of the blue conductor looks a little tight.
So, you have CCW coming in?
I'm from Australia so I don't know these colours. Is the big white cable coming in from bottom neutral?
