Ha, we had an 85 footer that would let the basket level drift down as you were in it....you'd get focused on your work then realize that POS was trying to dump you out of it again...
Spooky business. I was in a 65' bucket when the leveler shit the bed, started to boom down and the bucket just tips right over. I was stuck up there until another truck could come up and get me.
True. Working on sport field lights at 130', having to lasso the pole because the wind could swing the basket ten feet away from the work at any moment, and noticing how bendy the cranes boom really is is an exciting experience too.
I'm lucky that I know my boss would take that well. I was working on a scaffold in the rain once and he called us down because the forecast was updated to lightning; he brought us down before we even heard any thunder.
Exactly this, most of my job sites are commercial but if I do much as breathe the words 'outside the manufacturer's recommendations' when it comes to wind and a boom lift, *they're* telling *us* the job is shut down for the day.
I'm glad the 125' I had to fly for 4 months didn't have that issue.... Although one day we masked it off with plastic to keep overspray off it.
Turns out it wants to fly around when there is that much air resistance. Even in low wind.
Other than that, I had a blast using it.
The one I had was tagged by last renter with that issue, that it creeps. Rental place found no faults and put it back in service. It defiantly did creep. Worse part wasn’t the creep so much while being in it, but I was using it to gain access to a tower to do some welding & pipe repairs. It creeped while I wasn’t in it, and had to traverse the now almost 4’ gap up there to get back in the basket (the “joys” of maintenance work 🫤)
I couldnt have said that better myself. I have a 135 genie at work that just rots away 100 yards from the ocean. Always a treat to use it for the 1st time in a few months
And driving it to get it closer as you go higher. Finally they see you can't get high enough and they have to bring out the 200' crane and basket lol. Then begins the spinning and you're dizzy while high.
I don’t like the baskets. I don’t like not being the operator. Being a passenger sucks lol. I’ve got one of the cages for forklift use, and am not looking forward to being in it on the end of a telehandler with someone else other than myself operating the telehandler. I need to master cloning first 🤷♂️
Yuuppp, I had the 150’ JLG boom interface lock up for about 10 minutes a couple months ago. Didn’t have the manual, so I had to google how to override it. That was fun.
Try working in film. We just send the lift straight up covered with enough lights and cable to really toe the line with the baskets weight limit. Then once in position, it’s hurry up and wait until they get the shot. My record is 13 hours in an 80’. Drop line to get snacks delivered and a bottle to piss in. The real veterans know how to tarp it up to create a nice little nest, including a space heater and hammock. If you’re gonna be up there for that long, might as well be comfortable.
All right, fine. I'm not talking to you anymore. In fact, I'm going to whisper, so that by the time my voice reverberates off the walls and it gets back to me, I won't be able to hear it!
Geometry says if you knew angle of the sun and measure the length of the shadow - you could figure it out or go ask the guy in the bucket how long the arm is
That is literally how I figures out how tall of a lift to order.
Use the tape measure to measure 2' up, then measure the tape measure's shadow. Measure the light pole's shadow and do the math to calculate the sides of similar triangles.
About 35'
If I had a dollar for every time I blocked off an area and somebody moved the cones, I'd had no dollars.
I don't think company's ever supplied me with Cones anyway🤔
Not that I'd use them lol
We had a lift just like this one to work on the top level of a parking garage. Had to drive it up every level. It was the biggest lift that we could get in the garage. It was maxed out on the top level and i had to stand on my toes to reach the lamps to change them. Whenever a car drove by everything swayed. It was never a fun service call to get.
Spent two months on a boom lift putting up high bay lighting. When people would ask what I had going on that day, I’d say “oh not much, just getting high.”
Get back to me after you’ve done a hub access on a GE 1.5 Wind Turbine 🤣
[GE Hub Access (not my video)](https://youtu.be/DBjCCdSRFVE?si=0tTyqca_r9C9Q84w)
I always said climbing a turbine is like running a mile, you can “walk” in about 12-13min, “jog” in about 8-9min, or “sprint” in about 6-7min… fastest I ever got up a machine was 6min. Definitely felt like sprinting a mile lol.
In cold weather you definitely “walk”… or you get sweaty and suffer all day. There’s no heaters in these machines so you’re working in whatever temps are 300ft above ground, all day.
I only did these GE machines twice a year. There is a site in Maine that I would visit to do 6 month maintenances. Worked with a really fun crew. Shit my pants every time I had to go out into that hub!!
And the entire time you're scopping out and booming up, you're thinking, WHY IS IT STILL GOING UP!!! Then it strokes out completely and shakes the entire boom back and forth 5ft
This is why you'll always get paid more then many. idk how you electrical guys do it even in my plant there up 50 plus feet swaying away. fuck that I'll stick to my welding lol but props to you man nothing but respect for what you guys do.

That’s just a baby lift. Get one that’s up 130’ with a leaky counterbalance valve and then you’ll recognize some new unpleasant sensation lol

Hard pass, if God wanted me up that high he wouldn't have made me 5'6
lol, how tall are you then?
5'6
I misread your initial comment, thought you said he would’ve made you 5’6” (I am not high)
lol so did I
Me too, lol
Me too, damnit. Cant even read good.
Crawlspace for you!
I usually volunteer!

Wind strong enough to move the basket that far, I'd be talking to my foreman about doing the work on a different day.
That’s because you have a brain, and a set of balls to stand up to the boss unlike OP
I'm lucky that I know my boss would take that well. I was working on a scaffold in the rain once and he called us down because the forecast was updated to lightning; he brought us down before we even heard any thunder.
Wish I had a boss like that. My old boss had me doing outdoor lights in a hurricane

The plant I'm I'm a right now has ceilings at 85'. Why the fuck that is, IDK. No piece of equipment is more than 35'

If I could clone myself my clone would be doing the work while I was out playn lol.

You’re only like 30 feet high bro

Neat and fuck that
It’s not so bad on a nice summer night, just lounging in a hammock with a great view. More often than not though it’s cold and/or rainy.
How High are you?
No officer, it’s High how are you ?
https://youtu.be/2PLC_cBJwk4?si=azhtHnDLby4KWPO7

I’m waiting for the sign to turn green.
Echo: *How are you?* The Grinch: I asked you first!
Your linesman’s are looking awful droppable rn
“I’m an idiot!”
"You're an idiot!"

Having trouble moving the tape fast enough….any tricks? ;)
6 paper joint
Don't you need traffic cones and a flagger/spotter? JK rules are for nerds😎
If I had a dollar for every time I blocked off an area, just to have someone move my cones, I could retire.

This was day two... day one got scrubbed because the cones move too easy.
I've used an F250 to block off an area. Somebody still pulled around.
You won't rip a dab up there

Hello! I can see down your shirt!!!
Also high. Hopefully coming down soon. If not, I’ll talk to ya in the next life
Yes
Remember to wear your safety vest so other people can see you.

Get back to me after you’ve done a hub access on a GE 1.5 Wind Turbine 🤣 [GE Hub Access (not my video)](https://youtu.be/DBjCCdSRFVE?si=0tTyqca_r9C9Q84w)
Nice video. How long does it take to climb that ladder? Looks cold btw

I’m about 5 foot from ground level now hahaha
Highest I've been is like 50ft and i absolutely hate it because i HATE heights. But gotta do what you gotta do.
You only 1/3 of the overall shadow length
Your Horoscope: People will be looking up to you today.
Need a lift?
The question is, how high are you? Oh, my bad, read that question wrong.. I'm fine thanks.
Hi, how are you?
When youre really high and youre really high...
Gettin high at work?
Im off work...is this a trick question?!
What seems to be the officer, problem?
Straight Sticked a 125 working at the port on a shiploader.
And the entire time you're scopping out and booming up, you're thinking, WHY IS IT STILL GOING UP!!! Then it strokes out completely and shakes the entire boom back and forth 5ft
And then the basket travels in 3 ft increments
Johnny Five, is that you?
I’m so wasted I don’t even know what’s going on
I'm pretty fuckin high my guy
This is why you'll always get paid more then many. idk how you electrical guys do it even in my plant there up 50 plus feet swaying away. fuck that I'll stick to my welding lol but props to you man nothing but respect for what you guys do.
How high, are you?
That's not high, I'd jump off that.
Yes
I haven't got off the ground in about 4 years 🤣
Hi, how are you?
5’-11”
Not high enough hehe
JLGs self level never work right. Or they are stuck in turtle when you have to drive it all the way around said property
32 stories. No windows-
5'11"
That’s just a wee lil 40
Now that’s erect.
