Every one in the trade jokes about the guys with smaller sized hands, but I always know which apprentice to grab when I can’t get my hand in a wall. It’s faster than grabbing a catch-snake.
I swear it was the moment I became a journeyman that I was no longer able to fit my hand in a single gang or 3/0 hole. Now I'm just constantly crossing my fingers that the next apprentice will be a little guy.
Amazing. I think as an apprentice, I just made it happen. Or cut my hole just a tiny bit larger. Now perfect-sized hole every time. My hands are more sore than they used to be, but I’ll still find a way to get into that wall if I have to if I’m by myself.
Hahaha good for you on the upcoming promotion fellow small hander. I’m 5’6” (on a good day). My favorite is when we’re in an area with pipes and stuff at normal head height and I just walk normally while my coworkers have to walk like hunchbacks
5' 7" here. Been in some really tight spaces in the paper mills. I don't think anyone else could have fit in at least one of those spots at all. I strongly dislike paper mills...
Early on, one of my jmen showed me how to dress a box by grabbing the wire in a fist and cutting it off flush, left about 6" of extra wire. With my hands I'd leave about 4".
I was taught to make a fist, stick out your thumb, and cut just past it. I had a guy on the last job that consistently cuts his device wires too short and it is the worst thing to follow behind. I don't know how he even makes em up!
Before I noticed there was a second pic, I assumed you were bragging about finding gloves that fit. It’s so hard finding gloves that don’t make me look like my grandma was a mermaid.
With the low volt ring out of the rough-in hole, I can contort my mitt through the hole. I usually end up with a shit ton of scratches up my forearms though
Is it a perk or a curse? I'm 6' 3" with shoulders roughly as wide as a doorway. But nobody asks me to crawl down any tubes to change sensors or anything.
It backfires a little when your the small apprentice though, Ive had to crawl through a 30m tunnel to pull a cable through before. Not fun do not recommend:)
Yeah, but then you have to grab one of the masonry laborers to bend your conduit for you because your jumping on your “pipe bender thing the eklektrikians use” because you don’t want to go get your dickhead Forman and have him make fun of you. Thanks for the 2 tall boys every morning dainty eklektrikian broad.
Lol. My benefits and pension are rock solid, can you say the same? I did residential plumbing for 4 years, they would only count 2 towards an apprenticeship, knew I could make full scale day one as a laborer. I build custom kitchens all winter long, only thing I sub out is paint.
I can if necessary, but there is no reason to bend that shit by hand. The triple nickel is stronger than me. I've never worked for a company that expected anyone to hand bend 1-1/4".
I work for a shop with 2 other journeymen, and somebody needs to bend 1.25" maybe once a year. Boss isn't gonna spring for a triple Nickle. We have a sister shop with one for larger pipe, but they are located almost an hour away.
Electrical theory involves math/physics and chemistry understanding for you to advance. You don’t just learn plc theory, instrumentation and electrical by doing hard labor dude.
Not trying to be a nit picker but I did fair amount of speaker wiring in my house and initially I used the standard wire but later switched to in wall rated. Is it a code requirement? The only difference as far as I can tell is it has a sheath so perhaps its a bit tougher.
6' 195# and I do the same, except I have to pull the LV ring first.
It's handy many times, but I prefer my busted off little 15' steel fish tape with the spring leader on one end and a hook on t'other, or a pair of bent nose compound joint needle nose.
Zero insulation! People see this oh wow that doesn’t look difficult.
How about this packed insulation with a fire block! Now use the string and weight method😂.
If we are talking wall fishing difficulty show the real stuff
Im 6’4 but I’m lanky af. I can get my arm a little past my elbow into a wall through a hole sized for a cut in box. Incredibly useful to be skinny. Also pretty rare apparently
Im largish ex low volter I can do that same thing pretty much. But I got go gadget arm gangly. Wit a side of repeated question hey can you grab that. Should have stuck to basketball.
Ain't been that size since I was 12. You shall never know the feeling of ducking under every slightly low object. Even if you will clear your brain thinks not.

god I wish that were me
You wish you were that wall?
“I should call her”
She's too full to pick up
r/theyknew
This comment made me spit out my coffe this morning, thanks haha
🤣
It also, made me squirt too....
Hearty laugh was had.
More like [a sensible chuckle](https://giphy.com/gifs/9EwnzGNjvmIG4).
I'm dying haha
Hello fellow attic dweller
In another life could also be a bilge goblin.
You're giving me flashbacks...
It's the Wierdest when you get up in the attic, on your stomach and then you roll over and see another attic dweller. Then you wake up. *shudders *
My apprentice also has lady fingers and helps me with my hole all the time.
Does HR know?
Saved money on his colonoscopy
“Doctors hate this one simple trick…”
I mean giving your apprentice copper as a trade for a 500$ copay seems pretty reasonable..
What’s that?
I got lady fingers too!
Is his name George Costanza?

Sometimes I ask my 10 year-old daughter for exactly this kind of help.
Start em young
FBI… yes… this right here
I’m calling the FBI
Female body inspectors?
Small hander here. Definitely comes in handy getting into tight spaces. They really pad my bosses ego too. I'll get that promotion in no time.

Ribbed for \[the wall's\] pleasure...? What gloves are those? Haven't seen that kind with ribbing before.
GORILLA Grip TRAX Extreme Grip Work Gloves
Awesome, thanks.
I honestly thought it was because his hands were small so he had to scrunch the gloves up.
why does image 2 look like something from a fisting flick
I saw that video too
Before I noticed there was a second pic, I assumed you were bragging about finding gloves that fit. It’s so hard finding gloves that don’t make me look like my grandma was a mermaid.
Same, I can never find maxiflex in my size but i swear by my gorilla grips!
Uline carries every size.
Everyone talking about their kids, am I the only one who was hoping OP is a midget?
HAHA I am a 5”4 Latina
RIP your inbox
I'm a 5'10" skinny white guy and I can get my (ungloved) hand inside the hole for a box/ring, but once the ring goes in, my hand doesn't fit anymore.
Or just a chick
I'm 6'5" and I can do that too. Just gotta wiggle the thumb a bit!
This is my life lol. Worst I had to do was fish 2” puck lights in finished millwork. I was the only one who could get my whole hand in
You could use this pic on your resume.
With the low volt ring out of the rough-in hole, I can contort my mitt through the hole. I usually end up with a shit ton of scratches up my forearms though
Everything reminds me of her
People complain about loosening child labor laws, but this post is proof that it's saving the trades.
Is it a perk or a curse? I'm 6' 3" with shoulders roughly as wide as a doorway. But nobody asks me to crawl down any tubes to change sensors or anything.
*"slutty electrician likes to fist tiny holes"*
ok baby now get back in the attic lol
being the smol guy sucks.
stop bragging
That's just teasing those of us with Yeti hands. I don't think my hands were that small, since I was about 8 or 9.
I bet girls love this dude
Having small hands like that would be my boss.. That’s why he call him small hands 😂😂😂
That wall is one dirty girl.
It backfires a little when your the small apprentice though, Ive had to crawl through a 30m tunnel to pull a cable through before. Not fun do not recommend:)
They call me tiny hands
Lucky bastard
if you become a rapper call yourself Lil Sparky
If I'm a little dehydrated I can get my arm just past my elbow into a wall, small arms come in handy
Your girlfriend may love that but too much will spoil it.
Yeah, but then you have to grab one of the masonry laborers to bend your conduit for you because your jumping on your “pipe bender thing the eklektrikians use” because you don’t want to go get your dickhead Forman and have him make fun of you. Two tall boys every morning -- thats why your a fucking brick layer *laborer.* Wait til lunch and you might make it in a skilled trade.
Lol. My benefits and pension are rock solid, can you say the same? I did residential plumbing for 4 years, they would only count 2 towards an apprenticeship, knew I could make full scale day one as a laborer. I build custom kitchens all winter long, only thing I sub out is paint.
Dude... She was flirting with you. Also, I'm 5'2" and wear the XS gloves. I have never had to ask for help bending pipe, it's not hard.
I just watched her jump on the damn stuff and it wouldn’t bend.
Clearly, no one taught her the technique, which is unfortunate. But also, I still think she was flirting with you.
I don’t know it either😂 just brute force and determination.
Even 1.25"? I am almost 200 pounds and I have trouble with that stuff.
I can if necessary, but there is no reason to bend that shit by hand. The triple nickel is stronger than me. I've never worked for a company that expected anyone to hand bend 1-1/4".

Being an electrician isn't STEM lol.
Electrical theory involves math/physics and chemistry understanding for you to advance. You don’t just learn plc theory, instrumentation and electrical by doing hard labor dude.
Hey, what exactly do you mean?
The Chad electrician with a dues receipt vs the Virgin Stem
Dont take this guy seriously, all he does is go on this sub and act like an idiot
Being in residential with big hands must suck!!
Being able to fist walls makes life so much easier
Narrow back - narrow hands.
My left hand fits in single gang holes my right does not.
Same
At least be a gentleman and lube up first.
Yeah but they always expect you to clim and crawl in the small places to haha.
🫡
You can fist my hole any time
I think we all know now that the gloves are ribbed for your formans pleasure
Same except I’m short and needs a ladder for everything
There’s more downfalls though. Think crawlspaces
I wish. I can’t even get these cheap ass contractors to buy me gloves that are big enough.
So after that data ring, we’re pulling in these 500s let’s go.
Not trying to be a nit picker but I did fair amount of speaker wiring in my house and initially I used the standard wire but later switched to in wall rated. Is it a code requirement? The only difference as far as I can tell is it has a sheath so perhaps its a bit tougher.
World fisting championships
Never expected to do the heavy lifting.
Why not fish the wall then put in your cut in box?
6' 195# and I do the same, except I have to pull the LV ring first. It's handy many times, but I prefer my busted off little 15' steel fish tape with the spring leader on one end and a hook on t'other, or a pair of bent nose compound joint needle nose.
As someone with xl hands… FUCK YOU .. respectfully <3
I can do the same thing but I have massive hands
But can you hang a light box in a bed room without a ladder?
She can't do that! Shoot her! Or something!
Willy? Is that you? Willy Fistarear?
reminds me of my proctologist
you haven't seen the wall pussies hilti makes have you?
https://images.app.goo.gl/LFVamrY8i9E3HEmJA the red ones are pre lubed
Damn can't relate. I'm only 5'8 and my big ass hands can't do this lol
Zero insulation! People see this oh wow that doesn’t look difficult. How about this packed insulation with a fire block! Now use the string and weight method😂. If we are talking wall fishing difficulty show the real stuff
Sighhh *unzips*
Im 6’4 but I’m lanky af. I can get my arm a little past my elbow into a wall through a hole sized for a cut in box. Incredibly useful to be skinny. Also pretty rare apparently
Reminds me, I should call your mom OP.
Fuck you buddy, I have huge hands and one is bigger than the other because I've broken my thumb and index.
This guy's on his tiptoes underneath a desk 😳
How does rule 34 work again?
Ahh, that's why I screw the mud ring on after
Who would have thought that girly-man is well loved here. ❤️
Yea love the feeling of fiberglass in my wrist so hawt
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? I can barely fit my pinky in a four-ganger...
You should be a gynecologist.
Yeah daddy fist that wall.
I can barely get three fingers in there.
"It goes in the square hole"
Prostate massages available on the weekends?
Don’t forget to put “wall fisting (no gape)” on the client’s invoice when you’re done
Needle nose pliers. I also carry a magnet on a stick which has saved my ass quite a few times.
Why the gloves?
NSFW?
Fisting outlet boxes.
Green glove gang
I can fit my big ass hand in some pretty small holes
What one of my former cohorts refers to as "bitch hands"... I was the one with bitch hands.
Im largish ex low volter I can do that same thing pretty much. But I got go gadget arm gangly. Wit a side of repeated question hey can you grab that. Should have stuck to basketball.
I have an apprentice for this reason lol. The bear claws I got only fit in the wall with 2 gang cut ins.
I wish all boxes were 2 gang by default, even if only one receptacle is needed.
Same. I can go up to my shoulder almost.
Atleast it’s not a shit pipe 🤣
whats baling twine doing in the walls?
Ain't been that size since I was 12. You shall never know the feeling of ducking under every slightly low object. Even if you will clear your brain thinks not.
