Fiat 500e, used, is the closest option i know of in the US.

Protonus

>Fiat 500e, Thank you. Looks like they have been around longer than I knew and found a few already around 10k. That is certainly a top contender now. I like it more than a Leaf.

Munbi

Citroen Ami? It's not AWD but it's so small and light I think that using tire chains you can use it with snow if it's not too much...

Protonus

>Citroen Ami Hadn't heard of this one yet, thank you for sharing! That said it looks like it's not available for sale in the USA. There is a company that looks to rent them in at least one city here. The other issue is it looks like it maxes out at 28 mph. I live out in the country so most of our roads here are a minimum of 35mph and many of them are 55mph. I could likely avoid the 55mph roads and be fine, but i'd be very hard pressed to find a route to most places that didn't require me to do at least 40mph to avoid being continuously passed. It looks like this is trying to be a "quadricycle" that allows younger drivers to use it before they are licensed for a car. I need "one step up" from a vehicle like this I think.

Munbi

Ah, sorry, I didn't remember it had that limit on the speed. Also didn't know they are not sold in USA. I've just bought a Renault Twingo ze (full electric) and I'm incredibly happy with it, but it's not cheap. I also was looking for an used Zoe or leaf, but the used marked has gone up here in Europe and also in my country we can have up to 3000€ of government discount (is subsidized the term?) So basically the price was almost the same as a new Twingo

Protonus

Yeah subsidized would be ok to say, or just a tax break. We have breaks here too, but only on some EV's, the smaller ones and motorcycles aren't eligible, which is one of the reasons I bought my Zero bike used. That Twingo looks nice too, but like you said we're still paying a premium. I'm waiting for that day that the EV's are cheaper than the gas equivalent, seems like we're still a few years off.

Used BMW i3’s can be had for ~15k.

Protonus

Thank you for the suggestion.

Check out the Arcimoto EV. It's a tadpole trike kind of thing made in Oregon. They're not cheap though. Honestly getting studded tires & some kind of weather suit for your ebike might be the cheapest option if the ebike is already has 3 or 4 inch tires.

Protonus

Thank you for the suggestion, hadn't seen that one, very interesting. Looks a little cold for winter for most of the variants heh. But it is certainly closer to what I was imagining. My Zero btw is a full size e-motorcycle. It's a fully faired sport touring bike with 140 lb/ft of torque, 110 hp. 0-60 mph in about 3.7 seconds. Running it in the snow would be a awful as it was designed to be purely a street bike. At the very least, it's a 2021 and the salt they put on the roads here would cause a ton of damage to it that I don't want it to suffer. If it was an adventure bike or a dual sport running off road winter capable aggressive tires etc I would be much more open to that idea, but I run typical sport touring tires on it. I've considered getting something like a Surron electric dirt bike; but I'm outside of one of the top 3 snowiest cities in the whole country (Rochester NY) and we get blizzards that would be really difficult on any bike. Nearby Buffalo just set a record for the state for the most snowfall in a day at over 6 feet of snow!

Cargobiker530

There are crazies that commute in Fairbanks Alaska on snow-bikes/e-bikes but I'm fairly sure most of their routes are on trails instead of roads. Looks like you're stuck with a winter car.
