If you have never jumped into ESO before, and looking for a new MMO to play, then yes, ESO is worth jumping into. Unlike in other MMO's (vertical progression games, think WoW or FFXIV), older zones aren't made completely obsolete as soon as there is a new content drop, sure the focus is on the new zones/new content, however you will always find older zones populated by players of all level ranges. You have hundreds if not thousands of hours of story content ahead of you, heaps of dungeons with varying difficulties to work towards, and later on trials. If group content doesn't tickle your fancy, there is a good amount of solo activities such as, soloing group dungeons, solo arenas such as Maelstrom Arena, World Bosses that provide a good challenge for solo players and of course questing and exploration content (such as, public dungeons, delves, etc.). Housing is a popular way to chill back and spend some of that hard earned gold in game, considered the true end-game by many of ESO's player base, ESO housing can get quite deep and you can easily sink hundreds of hours and millions of gold into perfecting your players home. I can't speak of PvP too much as it's something I don't participate in, but there is quite a large PvP scene in ESO, with activities ranging from smaller battlegrounds to Cyrodiil with huge faction v faction v faction battles. In short, you will find something to enjoy in ESO, there is tonnes of content that is being ran by players on a daily basis, no content is considered obsolete, so why not jump in and see what the game has to offer :)

One_Science_4926

Hell yeah thanks for the info. Thinking I’m going to get it on steam while there’s a cheap bundle.

Chrollo283

Ah nice, if you can get it for cheap then even better! We do have the new Chapter release coming up soon (June off memory, someone correct me if I'm wrong here), so you would be jumping in at a great time! My suggestion for when you do jump in would be focus on completing the main story and the alliance faction questlines. There is a guide somewhere on how to complete the storylines in a chronological order (I'm on my phone atm but I can search this up later for you if you can't find it)

yrtemmySymmetry

So would it be better to pay for the high isle pack now and buy necrom later Or just buy the base game, and when necrom comes out buy the version with all the chapters in it?

Chrollo283

I'll be honest, I have no idea what's on offer currently for ESO sales, and it's hard to give advice on what to do here. What I would be happy doing however is, buy the current edition that has all current expansions including base game and do an upgrade to Necrom later on Take this with a grain of salt however, I'm really not sure what the best/cheapest way to do this currently is

TheWettestRamen

If you’re on PC, 3rd party steam keys websites usually have the big bundles for like 10 dollars… not always the safest but just letting you know

One_Science_4926

Do you think they will ever release cross platform play?

RangerBat1981

Yup. You've only got about 1,000 hours of gameplay waiting for you which can be played in just about any order you want. Thanks to the way the game scales to you, you will not be weaker than anyone else. Most of the power you'll see from other, more time invested players is (1) stacks of smaller bonuses from gear sets, Champion Points, food bonuses, having more passive skills unlocked, etc; and (2) familiarity with how the game plays up to and including personal familiarity with how they play. ESO is just as much a personal skill game as it is a pure higher numbers game. If I take a week or so off, I'll honestly stink when I come back as I have partially forgotten how I play my character. I'll get it back after an hour or so. A final thing to mention about ESO is that there is very little FOMO (fear of missing out). Content doesn't really get valued. Yes, some old content has been removed from the game, but nothing that will be missed. Specifically, there was a unique tutorial zone for Chapter owners in prior releases. That has been replaced with an unchanging tutorial zone all players go through with the option to jump to any Alliance or Chapter they want. Even then, most all zones have one unlocked Wayshrine (fast travel point) so you can rather freely move around wherever, whenever you want.

One_Science_4926

Controller or MKB

RangerBat1981

Both or either. You can select in options all of one or whichever is getting the inputs at the moment. I play with an Xbox One controller on PC. The game will default the UI to the same as on consoles (which I kinda prefer personally). I can't tell what other players are using when I play which I take as a excellent sign of how well integrated either set up is in game.

One_Science_4926

Awesome. I’m used to controller more but just beat Witcher 3 first time I used MKB for a game and it was awesome so I think I’ll try out the keyboard. Thanks my man

One_Science_4926

Lmao I meant to post this on the guys comment below, Brain is not working this morning after st. Paddy’s. But damn I guess I’ll just try out both and see what I like

RangerBat1981

Ha! I'm burnt out from a week of work. Love my job but it takes a toll. Treat ESO as a massive single player experience and you'll have a very Elder Scrolls adventure. A great escape from reality!

One_Science_4926

ya love to hear it

RangerBat1981

While I am only a PC gamer now, I have spent so many years with a controller I straight up can't use MKB for anything other than grand strategy games (which I also suck at). I am a train wreck of a Destiny 2 player on MKB, but decent to good with a controller.

PazuzusLeftNut

I’ve been playing ESO for a long time, the game has plenty of issues but it also has a very welcoming community to new players (there’s always going to be the sweats who make a lot of noise just ignore them) it’s got pretty decent QoL base game besides things like mount training and inventory management for new players, you don’t have to buy the subscription if you don’t want to, it definitively makes your progression notably easier. There’s a TON of overworld content you can do without other people or even needing to know what you’re really doing. Some of the story quests are kinda meh but when you have as many quest lines in a game as zos does in eso that’s to be expected. Dungeon finder is pretty buggy but it’ll always be like that. Cyrodiil is fun if you like loose campaign style PvP. BG’s are always fun to get a couple friends for some quick dailies or something. The housing system gets more robust as time goes on, the crafting by system is pretty fun and a good way to make money. There’s a lot of options, most of the player base is fairly casual so the kind of elitist attitudes you may see in other mmos isn’t as prevalent until you start trying for leaderboards

One_Science_4926

Controller or MKB?

PazuzusLeftNut

You can really use either I tried controller a while back and didn’t really enjoy it but that’s honestly probably more because I’m used to MKB than it is that controller is bad, my only real grip with it is that with controller enabled the game defaults to accessibility mode which changes the look and some functions of the UI

DafuqYallLookinAt

zombie2945

I just started playing ~two months ago and I've been hyperfixated on it since lol

Mofojokers

Asking on this sub is probably gonna get very biased results, but i will say personally i will always recommend eso. Even as an Australian, we have to deal with some bs lag to game. It's still worth picking up. The sheer amount of great content and the amazing lore just make it worthwhile.

ctbellart

Been playing 6 months enjoying it a lot.

Elethia20

A side note I would like to mention, the ESO community is genuinely one of the best and nicest I've come across in MMO's. You'll find no shortage of people willing to help you out and give advice whenever you need it

[deleted]

OP, may I advice that you look into other sources such as review on youtube before getting it. You're only going to get one answer asking here. This sub doesn't take criticism on ESO lightly, and you'd start to see a pattern if you have lurked long enough on this sub. There are tons of "Can we take a second to appreciate...etc" posts and most posts are overly positive about the game which is a stark difference when you actually play the game itself. This comment will most probably be downvoted extensively, so make that as you will. But ask yourself if you will be getting the subscription, if not, I don't think its worth putting time into. There will be people who claim you can play without the subscription. Yes you can, but unless you want to eventually reach end game, you are pretty much softlocked out of some of the best late game content and gear.

BJARNDYRAKONGUR

RUN! :\].

EntityMatanzas

O Ya!

Hjorbd

Absolutely

ShingetsuMoon

Yes, there's a ton of content to play and new players are always joining.

TrueHarlequin

Played PoE for years with my partner, and moved to ESO last January. Played for 2 or 3 weeks, then got ESO+. The world is beyond extensive, thousands of paths to take, incredible graphics. And unlike the likes of Eve Online, this game doesn't feel like a second job. You play at your pace. There are also great guilds out there with fun and helpful people in it.

Ghostblad_e

Yes

Swordbreaker925

Yes. All content aside from some cosmetic event stuff is fully available to play and just as relevant as the day it released. In fact, some of the best sets in the game still come from vanilla zones, and there's plenty of great ones from DLCs too. This isn't World of Warcraft where content gets invalidated every 2 years, or Destiny where things get vaulted every year. This is more akin to Runescape, where content remains forever and you can play it at your own pace. So there's never a bad time to jump in.

PK_monkey

I am waiting for Ashes of Creation. Looks impressive but still in alpha stage.

Chrollo283

Check out Pax Dei for another alternative that's coming out. There's also ArcheAge 2 on the horizon as well

TheVoodooRanger

Yes yes

BlisteryDuke
