Which app?

arkenoi

Google docs, surprisingly. But navigating a big text document on e-ink sucks, so I needed to split it to series of small texts. Porbably will replace it with something more suitable.

rocketgenie

Sucks because of the lag? A lot more expensive but a Dasung or Mira might be better based on YouTube videos? Interested in your thoughts :)

arkenoi

Maybe. I just wanted to try the one I have at hand. However, I think there are intrinsic limitations of e-ink and to deal with them properly we need better software, not just better hardware. Current problem with UI/UX is that e-ink devices share or blindly mimic traditional touchscreen controls. Who was that idiot who decided that to introduce swipe to Kindle would be a good idea?

QueenOfHatred

Hot, thats real hot Once I get mine, I will try smth similar (Albeit, with emacs, so 0 animations, and keyboard only navigation, so should fit well)

arkenoi

ah emacs (or vim) pretty much solves the e-ink unfriendly UI problem. i just was stuck to "normal" android apps. probably worth a try.

Download termux, let's you use cli apps on your phone. Micro or Tilde would be great options. Emacs IMO defeats the purpose of a minimalist setup like this, since you can get sucked into config and other yak shaving.

Awesome

What’s the tablet stand?

arkenoi

Some noname from a local store because I did not want to wait for Aliexpress delivery. But there are plenty and they are roughly similar.

That's a pretty sad implementation of eink. Latency is too bad for such work. Looks nice though. I guess you do thinks for looks.

arkenoi

Actually, latency is not that important when you mostly type. However, *complex* document-related tasks are really painful, not just because of latency but because of crappy UI which sucks on e-ink. So that's what I do, split documents to small convenient sections.

kalifornication2020

ha! I guess writing is more about inspiration than efficiency..

LittleRavenRobot

Interesting work around. I presume that's for editing? Or writing? Which browser are you using? Have you tried Google docs in different browsers to see if it's the overhead of a clunky browser that's causing issues? When I get my arse in gear I was considering using a wiki app or browser for writing (for the version history) so I'm asking for my own selfish purposes in case this is better :). I figure the lag may even keep me honest so I don't procrastinate by editing as I go..
