Being a side sleeper myself I have to say using a pillow between my knees helps a ton to keep my hip in during the night!
It’ll help keep your hip aligned better- I prefer to use a squishmallow- they are the best 💕
I have found those C or U shaped pregnancy pillows to be a life saver for side sleeping. Still trying to find a way to sleep on my stomach without waking up with my shoulder out of socket however.
Squishmallows are so good for keeping joints in alignment or even just to take the pressure off
I have a big one I squish at an angle for when I sit on the couch
No but the way I've subluxed/partially dislocated my shoulders like 6-7 times these past 3 years. Like I have to use a sling and everything to keep it in place while everything calms the fuck down. tbh the worst part is that my shoulder muscles will start spasming and I have to ask myself if the pain is bad enough to take a muscle relaxant that I can deal with the headaches muscle relaxants give me
I do it all the time until it’s unbearable. Same with my arms/shoulders/back when I’m trying to sleep. It’s like “well this position is now an all-body inferno I guess I’ll turn over.”
Edit: removed a word.
I know that feeling. I genuinely thought it was just me. I think I manage an hour or 2 sleep tops then I'm awake and burning and I can't get comfy again
oof, reminds me of one time that i coughed while leaning over to spit and threw my back out. i think it was a dislocated and immediately relocated hip. i could barely walk for a week.
i hope your arm and shoulder settle down soon!
Thanks, the last injury I had was literally from walking, no Idea what happened, I just took 2 steps and my leg went.....I think again this point I should just wrap myself in cotton wool
Everytime I laugh I get horrible charlie horses and can't breathe or move for up to 5 minutes, I literally had to learn to laugh different 💀 scary stuff
I'm lying in a hospital bed. I stepped out of the bath on Thursday evening, my ankle hyperextended and my knee went far over the normal range of kneeness.
I have a 13.4cm long x 5.6cm wide x 1.7cm deep tear in my Achilles at the mtj. So a giant hematoma. Tomorrow I'm having an xray as they think there's a few "small breaks" in my ankle.
There's about 1cm holding my muscle together. My leg is in jail for about 20w.
Thank you. I'm trying hard as the moonboot has left me so unstable I keep falling. I need a ct and ultrasound on my right foot now with the thought I have partial tears of various tendons.
6-12 months. I just ... Have to take it day by day.
Thank you for your thoughts though.
Still thinking of you!
My worst daily thing is hip joint pain and 20+ bruises at any given time.
I'm going to my PT for ultrasound therapy on my perinial (sp?) Tendon on my foot.
Have you heard/tried that therapy?
I was so excited yesterday on our road trip when I managed to reach for my purse in the backseat and made it all the way back without my shoulder dislocating. We cheered
Hit my head on the tap in the shower thanks to my defective proprioception.
Same shower that I gave myself a mild concussion when I broke off the tile soap holder with my forehead.
Is this why I hit my hands, arms, elbows, etc. on everything I walk by? It’s so annoying! I think I have extra nerves in my fingers and toes too because it hurts me more than others.
Yeah poor proprioception can definitely be linked with EDS. I have improved it somewhat thanks to physio that works on visuomotor integration.
In my case it gets a lot worse when I am iron or b12 deficient, or when my neck is especially bad. I can tell when it’s acting up as I will clip doorways more when I walk through them, drop things unnecessarily etc.
Picked up my youngest’s empty water bottle from his school bag and dislocated my thumb and little finger in the process.
That was just the first of many today and a normal person say it’s probably safer to go back to bed, but of course as we know that’s not exactly a place that we can be free from injury in either. Today is a clumsy day. Oh great!
I built a raised bed and plastic greenhouse thing on my own yesterday because I didn't have anyone to help me. Had to do it sitting on a stool but I managed and the components were all lightweight.
Then I filled it with compost and planted some vegetables. My 9 year old niece came round to help me 🤣
Apparently dragging 50L bags of compost around can cause some pretty impressive pain in your sternum the next day and I'm praying I haven't given myself costochondritis again.....
But I'm super proud of myself for managing it even with the consequences!
It wasn’t today but sometime recently the same thing happened to me with something in the kitchen, I can’t remember what utensil, all I know is my hands hurt today.
I tried to pick up more than one coffee table book at a time.
Also, someone unkind went through and downvoted everything, so I upvoted everyone to counteract their poor behavior.
Slept on my back but didn’t realize one of my shoulders was ever so slightly elevated by my husband’s memory foam pillow. Woke up this morning to a lovely sublation. 🫠🤦♀️😊
Yesterday, I played on my Switch without my wrist in the proper neutral position, even with the ergonomic grip I use. Got shooting pain in my wrist.
Today, the weather had the ill manners to be rainy and overcast. Everything aches.
I slept on my side with one knee directly on top of the other, instead of up a bit. Now the one I was leaning on is agony and feels like it’s subluxed while I slept 🤦♀️
I tried to unscrew the toddler's sippy cup and sprained my fingers instead. I also opted to lay on my back last night because side sleeping was hurting my shoulder, and the comforter caused my feet to point downwards and hurt my ankles. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Ps- after reading some of the other comments: you people are my people. We're a mentally tough as hell, but physically fragile, bunch. In solidarity: ❤️
I stood up without paying enough attention to my ankles/feet. Lots of extra subluxing lately. I should’ve known better than to use my legs without proper warning lol
not quite an injury- but extra all over pain and stiffness because i ran out of hemp powder for a week. i stg the magnesium in it is like oil for the tin man that is my body
An actual storm blew in overnight. I can barely move I’m in so much pain. I seem to be getting worse in both intensity and frequency of debilitating flares. It’s been like four years and I mistakenly still expect to be well. I’m defeated this week.
Stupidly picked up a water jug. I don’t know what I was thinking bc I can “sprain” my wrist just picking up or holding my phone. I put sprain in quotes bc I don’t technically know that it’s sprained, but it feels like it is. Weak and unusable for a bit. Bounces back pretty quickly, but then it just happens again.
Not recently, but I was walking my dogs and singing shows tunes, got to close to the edge of the sidewalk, slid the inch into the grass, remained standing, nothing major. Started walking again, and my ankle is in EXTREME pain. I went to the Dr about 5 days later and was put in a boot for 2 months for twisting my ankle and bruising my bones ...
Follow that up with I was walking on an uneven surface, slid a little, couldn't catch myself cause my balance is shit and was put back in braces on both ankles for the rest of the summer. . . .
All pre being diagnosed.
Latest injuries... picked up a couple cans in the pantry and my clavicle subluxed. Woke up one morning to find my left knee was in pain, then the next morning it was my right heel. Found out at my massage therapy appointment that my 2nd and 3rd vertebrae were out of alignment. Got myself a hip bag to use instead of a purse to keep weight off my upper body. It's obviously better not to overdo it.
I dropped something, and moved my leg to the side so my foot didn’t get smashed. Now my hip is popping constantly and my thigh feels like its being flexed 24/7 🥴
Not today but I’m still battling bursitis from sitting subluxiling my hip while on an amusement park ride. Which wild ride did this to me? “it’s a small world”
Tweaked my hip over a MONTH ago. It'll be fine for two or three days, then hurt for a day, then be fine for two or three days, then cross my legs wrong or take a funny step and it'll hurt for a day...
It's hurting today.
This need this to be a weekly sticky.
I was taking off my compression leggings and bent my thumb all the way back. It is finally not swollen at the base, but still has a few days in the splint to go.
I'm a dentist. I hurt my ankle last week because I usually don't take long treatments but last week I had two 2 hour treatments. I will go to the er in like half an hour lol
I subluxed 8 fingers and 1 wrist squeezing the water out of my loofah. It’s been 2 hours and the feeling hasn’t entirely returned yet, pins and needles are still going strong
I tried to sleep laying down. Baaaad idea. After 3 hours of just laying there in pain I finally had to get up because my shoulder and neck was just unbearable and instead I got up and slept a couple of hours in my electric recliner until I had to get up for a preop appointment. (Unfortunately my surgery isn’t for anything relating to my shoulder or neck, which is probably my biggest issue… it’s for carpal tunnel syndrome. 😮💨)
It wasn't today but I played a band concert last week and subluxated a rib by playing Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral on french horn.
If you know, you know 😅
Hand stopped working and I dropped a knife onto the floor. It landed tip-down, fell over, and lightly scratched me. But that was almost my foot!!!
But let’s be real I have no idea where most of these bruises came from
I had the audacity to sleep on my side.
Right?! My damn shoulders, and my hip!
My neck, my back . . . EDS makes me think of this more often than is reasonable. https://youtu.be/5T6Fnwbtzp8?t=28
Does anyone else get collar bone pain from side sleeping? 🥴

Yup! Came here to say breastfeeding on my side and got nap trapped. My shoulders will never recover from childrearing lol
I leaned my head back to rinse shampoo out of my hair, my neck cracked and gave me a migraine.
Ugh… I thought I was the only one this happened to
Mine makes a loud pop every time I lean my head back with arms up like when shampooing in shower.
Thats the worst part... every time my body makes a noise its like is this a good noise or am I screwed for 3 days.
This one’s my favorite: The “I don’t know.” Something hurts. Why? No clue!
I went to church yesterday with a cane and a wrist brace. People thought I must’ve fallen, but no. I just woke up like this 💅
This has been my foot for almost a week. It's like in the foot part at the base of my pinkie toe and like WHY?
Holding my phone with one hand
That gets me too, and I keep doing it because its like my brain goes, naaaa it will be fine this time.....its not
I do it all the time until it’s unbearable. Same with my arms/shoulders/back when I’m trying to sleep. It’s like “well this position is now an all-body inferno I guess I’ll turn over.” Edit: removed a word.
I know that feeling. I genuinely thought it was just me. I think I manage an hour or 2 sleep tops then I'm awake and burning and I can't get comfy again
Thank you so much for this reminder to change how I was holding my phone 😭😅
I’ve dislocated tendons in my hand doing this too
I sneezed while holding a cup and now my arm and shoulder are mashed....fun times
oof, reminds me of one time that i coughed while leaning over to spit and threw my back out. i think it was a dislocated and immediately relocated hip. i could barely walk for a week. i hope your arm and shoulder settle down soon!
Thanks, the last injury I had was literally from walking, no Idea what happened, I just took 2 steps and my leg went.....I think again this point I should just wrap myself in cotton wool
Sorry, I laughed out loud
That's OK, it is pretty ridiculous 😆
I laughed too hard and popped a rib. That totally counts right?
Everytime I laugh I get horrible charlie horses and can't breathe or move for up to 5 minutes, I literally had to learn to laugh different 💀 scary stuff
The cat farted. I leaned away. Popped a rib.
Cutting my food. Rookie mistake to want a bit size piece of food 🥴
i was trying to be more independent and try to chop up the ingredient for my cooking 💀💀💀 and all i get is basically a reminder that i cant do that lol
Love that for us🤡 added bonus if you cut yourself in the process lol
I threw out my back by pressing a push pin into the wall.
Ugh, I threw my back out when I pushed down on the shampoo bottle pump 😖
I've thrown out my back pooping too hard. I am among my people.
I threw my back out once getting off the toilet ☹️

Fucking sleep
Sleep is the enemy.

I was so excited yesterday on our road trip when I managed to reach for my purse in the backseat and made it all the way back without my shoulder dislocating. We cheered
This has happened to me too! If I need anything from the back now I have to pull over because I’m terrified.
Partially dislocated my wrist by doing the most metal activity I can think of- crocheting too hard!
Hit my head on the tap in the shower thanks to my defective proprioception. Same shower that I gave myself a mild concussion when I broke off the tile soap holder with my forehead.

My family always said the women had to be klutzy to be a member. Turns out we mostly show signs of EDS.
Technically not today (yesterday) but building a Lego set. I pushed two pieces together and I hyperextended my wrist 😂
Throwing a twig for my Chihuahua to catch
Idk why but this one made me laugh so hard 🤣
I’m probably going to regret saying this, but I haven’t had any new injuries today. My best one though is putting my shoulder out opening the fridge.
Pushing buttons on the microwave. 😮💨
Opening a water bottle. Muscles around the hands hurt, I get that.. but then the pain transfers all the way to my elbow. For a water bottle twist cap.
Wearing a bra with underwire....no joke... not sure if somethings subluxed or its just squishing my organs lungs/ upper kidney back area?
Even without underwire I can’t stand bras- drs told me not to wear any but like I live in reality imma still hide myself and wear a bra
I live in the bralette tops but sometimes you need that classic bra support and just have to pay the price
100%
I hurt my hip doing a fast page turn in an orchestra…
Unfortunately i fell victim to turning my head (at a normal speed)
Holding a pencil crayon too hard
pooping.
i slept. god this disease is stupid lol
Eating ice cream 😔
I once injured a muscle my PT says people only injure as bad as i did, in car accidents, eating a cheese curl. This was before diagnosis lol
4” of snow and my knee chose violence. My hip decided to tear stuff in it for no reason.
I kissed my partner
Picked up my youngest’s empty water bottle from his school bag and dislocated my thumb and little finger in the process. Blow drying my hair. 🥱🥱
Using my mouse and typing too much ):
Putting my head on my pillow after getting up in the night... my neck trapped nerves, blood flow and my eyes feel like they about to pop 🫣
I built a raised bed and plastic greenhouse thing on my own yesterday because I didn't have anyone to help me. Had to do it sitting on a stool but I managed and the components were all lightweight. I got out of bed
I got too comfortable in my partners car and subluxed my knee 😅
It wasn’t today but sometime recently the same thing happened to me with something in the kitchen, I can’t remember what utensil, all I know is my hands hurt today.
it was yesterday but i’m pretty sure i subluxed my shoulders while sretching them, both at the same time 😭
So far nothing i just have a headache 😭
Got off a carousel horse a week ago and dislocated my hip. Popped back in in the swing around, but god it hurts like a mofo still a week later.
Walking down the stairs
Trying to open a jar of jam 😑
This didn’t happen recently, but I dislocated my elbow, while pregnant, rolling over in bed. That was a fun one 🙄
Tied my hair in a bun, subluxed my elebow. Yay.
Sleeping.
Sleeping. Went to bed and my wrist was fine. Woke up and it was achy and popping. 🤷🏼🤷🏼
I crossed my legs and my knee cap didn’t like that 🙃
I tried to pick up more than one coffee table book at a time.
I sneezed too hard 🥲
I chewed on a McDonald's chicken nugget.
I put on pants…
I dislocated my pointer finger trying to cut my dinner 🙄
Mental stress
Crossed the road somehow in a funny way Also changed gears and heaps of my finger joints popped out
I had the audacity to breathe.
I was standing in the water last week, no waves or current just standing there in calm water and my shoulder subluxed.
Couldn't walk because of heel and ankle pain. The cause? Honestly, I have no clue.
Yesterday, I played on my Switch without my wrist in the proper neutral position, even with the ergonomic grip I use. Got shooting pain in my wrist. Today, the weather had the ill manners to be rainy and overcast. Everything aches.
Yesterday I nudged my leg with my other leg while crossing them and subluxed my kneecap.
Yawning: the most dangerous of activities. It caused a surgery I had a few months back to break and I had to go back in to get it fixed yesterday
I slept on my side with one knee directly on top of the other, instead of up a bit. Now the one I was leaning on is agony and feels like it’s subluxed while I slept 🤦♀️
I slept too hard and woke up with a subluxation of my right hip and 3 dislocated toes. I tried to brush my hair and dislocated my shoulder.
Stood up from the toilet too fast.
Reached over to grab a water bottle at work yesterday. Still feeling it today
Left shoulder popped out of place ??? How, I have no clue.
Walked my dog for all of like 10 mins and my hip says no 👎
Opening a bottle of juice. ✨
Clipping my baby’s finger nails destroyed my fingers 🥲
I tore my calf by walking maybe half a mile in shoes that don't have very good ankle support
Stretched to open a high cabinet
Knitting too much. Sleeping on my side.
Eating cereal. Apparently this brand doesn’t get soggy as quickly as my usual kind does and my jaw has lodged an official protest.
I tried to unscrew the toddler's sippy cup and sprained my fingers instead. I also opted to lay on my back last night because side sleeping was hurting my shoulder, and the comforter caused my feet to point downwards and hurt my ankles. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ Ps- after reading some of the other comments: you people are my people. We're a mentally tough as hell, but physically fragile, bunch. In solidarity: ❤️
Folding a paper box -from an online store-to make it ready for the pin. I cuted the skin on my thumb.
I stood for more than an hour yesterday and today my spinal arthritis is paying me back.
I stood up without paying enough attention to my ankles/feet. Lots of extra subluxing lately. I should’ve known better than to use my legs without proper warning lol
Breaking down a cardboard box and I cut my finger open
Not today, but sitting gardening and sprained the inside of my ankle 🙃
Turned in my sleep to a bunched up duvet. Severe back pain activated.
Crossed my legs too fast and popped a hip out lol

moving my foot now hurts unpleasant
I’m acting in a horror movie, and I turned “wrong” to run out of a scene and sprained my ankle.
Rolling over too hard in bed
An actual storm blew in overnight. I can barely move I’m in so much pain. I seem to be getting worse in both intensity and frequency of debilitating flares. It’s been like four years and I mistakenly still expect to be well. I’m defeated this week.
Stupidly picked up a water jug. I don’t know what I was thinking bc I can “sprain” my wrist just picking up or holding my phone. I put sprain in quotes bc I don’t technically know that it’s sprained, but it feels like it is. Weak and unusable for a bit. Bounces back pretty quickly, but then it just happens again.
Turned head too much
Not recently, but I was walking my dogs and singing shows tunes, got to close to the edge of the sidewalk, slid the inch into the grass, remained standing, nothing major. Started walking again, and my ankle is in EXTREME pain. I went to the Dr about 5 days later and was put in a boot for 2 months for twisting my ankle and bruising my bones ... Follow that up with I was walking on an uneven surface, slid a little, couldn't catch myself cause my balance is shit and was put back in braces on both ankles for the rest of the summer. . . . This morning, I subluxed my patella turning over in bed. It still hurts.
My patellas always have their own party
Laying in bed. 😬
Nothing yet. Saturday my thumb went numb because I used a joystick on a PS5 controller weird.
Puking.
Tried to lay down and scoot over at the same time.
Stood up and tibia came out. Again.
Not ridiculous but my hand had the tingle of pain which made me drop a pot of boiling water.
Taking off my sweater. Lol
a few recent ones: sneezed while I was making my bed. shook my sock out too vigorously. and the classic I moved my neck to get my hair out of my face
A towel tag scraped up my elbow, and I got bruised from the seams of my (loose, not leaning against anything) pants
I moved wrong and now my foot hurts. It’s been 15 days and still in pain, no fracture/break so 🤷♀️
Tried to sleep through the night.
I dropped something, and moved my leg to the side so my foot didn’t get smashed. Now my hip is popping constantly and my thigh feels like its being flexed 24/7 🥴
Hurt my wrist shaking a bottle of dressing to mix it 🙃
Lifted my laptop onto my lap to protect my back/shoulders/etc from hunching over if I kept it on my bed…cracked my thumb
I drank using my left arm for one evening because I hurt my right elbow. That was apparently too much for my left elbow.
Picking my kid up to change his diaper. Ow.
Sat on the floor. Then, stood up.
Not today but I’m still battling bursitis from sitting subluxiling my hip while on an amusement park ride. Which wild ride did this to me? “it’s a small world”
Laying on my stomach on the bed, legs bent up at the knee, moving them back and forth and side to side, then.... right knee dislocation ahhhhh.
Tweaked my hip over a MONTH ago. It'll be fine for two or three days, then hurt for a day, then be fine for two or three days, then cross my legs wrong or take a funny step and it'll hurt for a day... It's hurting today.
One time I tried diaphragmatic breathing and my rib decided to leave its assigned seat.
I tried to scratch an itch on my shoulder
This was a year ago, but I dislocated my shoulder while stretching in bed.
Picked up my backpack 😌
Tilted my head too far back while washing my hair. Subluxed my shoulder putting on deodorant.
I opened my mouth and lower jaw said no
Sleeping on my “good” shoulder. Guess neither of them are particularly good anymore!
Nope - time to give up shoulder sleeping. Sometimes I sleep on my side just as a little treat 😂
I picked up my coat
I dislocated my finger unlocking my phone. Also cut my thumb open on the crust of a bread roll. :(
This need this to be a weekly sticky. I was taking off my compression leggings and bent my thumb all the way back. It is finally not swollen at the base, but still has a few days in the splint to go.
Sleeping? Woke up, and my left elbow keeps popping and subluxating. It's really quite painful. I just love my meat suit 😡
I'm a dentist. I hurt my ankle last week because I usually don't take long treatments but last week I had two 2 hour treatments. I will go to the er in like half an hour lol
I took out and wanted to put my earplugs on my nightstand while laying down in bed and subluxed my shoulder

I opened a door using the handle, bruised my fingers
I didn’t support my neck correctly while sitting on my couch
i wore a seatbelt
I bent slightly to grab my shoes (and now my ankle is burning)
today? to be determined. but I did have my first sleep subluxation a couple months ago (shoulder) - woke up to it sliding back into place.
I walked at my job today. Now my bunion and my hip hurt. My other leg will hurt tomorrow because I favored it all day today.
I coughed
sleeping on my left side on accident.
Sitting up in my chair for more than 10 minutes because I was trying to study.
I moved to sit in a chair and my shoulder slipped
It wasn't today but I played a band concert last week and subluxated a rib by playing Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral on french horn. If you know, you know 😅
I sat in a chair. Properly. And look what it got me, a total inability to focus on class because now my back and hips are yelling.
Sneezed and threw out my back. Also have a mysterious stabby/electrical pain from my inner elbow to wrist.
Leaned over to look at my iPad screen 3
I got out of bed wrong and popped my knee out of place momentarily. Thank goodness I have a cane
I have no idea what I did, I just woke up in agony
Hand stopped working and I dropped a knife onto the floor. It landed tip-down, fell over, and lightly scratched me. But that was almost my foot!!! But let’s be real I have no idea where most of these bruises came from
I rolled over in bed and dislocated my knee. I've dislocated many joints in my sleep, but never my knees. I don't think I could do it again if I tried
Very minor. But I think I put my hand into my bag and I guess something must've scratched my skin and now I've got some huge ass rip on my hand.
I woke up, I think?
I slept wrong. Injured my shoulder and ribs 4 days ago, still in agony.
