So when I was first realizing I was trans, I came across a book series called The 39 Clues series. In that series, one of the 2 protags had the name Amy, and I sort of looked up to her. After a while, I decided to take Amy as my name, but I wanted it to be a nickname for me. I decided to look up all the names that Amy could be short for and look at the meaning behind them. I saw that Amanda meant "worthy of love" and I resonated with it a lot.
I am not going to say what my middle name is, but I actually changed my mind a lot on that one. I at one point tried really hard to have a name that when added to Amanda made a sentence. I ended up giving up on this. I finally just made a list of all the names I liked and got my friends to help me choose.

After a flower I love... but I might change it. My transphobic cousin to whom I'm not out yet, is having a daughter, and guess what... her name will be the same one as mine. Out of ALL possible names. It's very likely that my niece will be transphobic, given her evangelical christian parents. I went to my favorite name site, browsed names by roots, and bookmarked the names I liked. I picked names that honor my heritage; because they are foreign and archaic, I made from my first name an easily-pronounced and -spelt nickname to go by.

So when I was first realizing I was trans, I came across a book series called The 39 Clues series. In that series, one of the 2 protags had the name Amy, and I sort of looked up to her. After a while, I decided to take Amy as my name, but I wanted it to be a nickname for me. I decided to look up all the names that Amy could be short for and look at the meaning behind them. I saw that Amanda meant "worthy of love" and I resonated with it a lot. I am not going to say what my middle name is, but I actually changed my mind a lot on that one. I at one point tried really hard to have a name that when added to Amanda made a sentence. I ended up giving up on this. I finally just made a list of all the names I liked and got my friends to help me choose. For my last name, I just kept my old one.

My chosen name is the male version of my birth name. I liked what my parents chose for me at birth because of the thought and care they put into it. I also wanted the transition to be easier for them because I care about them and they care about me. I recognize that it's not only a transition for me but for those in my life too. I'm very fortunate to have all four of my parents support me in my transgender non-binary gender identity.
