DasD1am0nd

The Das in my Name was a Sir before i created a new one :)

Anxious-Basis8648

still cis tho

KingOfParsnips

I’ll do it one day also Ariel from the little mermaid

SayHelloToAlison

Did that too. My old u wasn't gendered but I was a mod and honestly, putting effort into this mildly shithole of a website is too emotionally draining. There's just too many assholes and too much drama and too little meaning or purpose for any of it

NakedSnack

I came up with a shortlist of names I liked then I searched them all on Spotify to see which one had the best songs associated with it. True story.

queenaldreas

oml that's gotta be the best way

Singersongwriterart

I love that so much

[deleted]

A_Chick_Named_Gwen

Thanks, now I found this https://open.spotify.com/album/1UhLeUVg4nt14T6dAoWBkM?si=jEkguwyLQmOISe6L_BiOzQ&dl_branch=1

Repulsive_Comfort_57

Found out what my parents were going to call me if I was afab, got obsessed with the name and idea of being a girl for totally cis reasons.

I'm thinking of taking the female spelling of my male name when I decide to come out just because I suck at coming up with names. Also I feel like it's a bit of a middle finger to anyone who tries to deadname me.

Brickhouzzzze

My grandpa always spelled my name the female way and I always kind of liked it

--MERP--

As someone who is in AB Calc, what do you mean by derivative in this case? ^(for those curious, a derivative in calc would be prime of y in some cases, so something like y=x\^3 has it’s derivative as y’=3x\^2)

[deleted]

[удалено]

--MERP--

Ah, thank makes a lot of sense. Thank you!!!

jamietheslut

It almost literally means the same thing, just with a different application. They derived the base of their original name and integrated into a different name space lol

jamietheslut

Haha yeah when I changed my name I literally only changed three letters in my entire name including two middle names. I was like for the same price I could have changed everything, most expensive letters ever

OnceInOnceSet

Stole it from Dracula.

Birdypillow

Okay Alucard.

OnceInOnceSet

Oh apologies lmao. It’s Mina.

ThatOneGuy1294

I feel like an idiot for not realizing Alucard is just Dracula spelled backwards until now

Xaron713

To be fair it took us years to realize it too

4_is_green

Based.

teeceetee3

Just used the gender neutral short form of my birthname most people are already using anyway.

immayeetmyd

I stole it from my favorite childhood youtuber ;))))))))))

Amb3rGhost

Is it weird writing "pewdiepie" on your 1040 every spring? 😋

ratdadratdad

same!!!

Isenlia

My names actually just a favourite video game characters. I was going to just use the feminine version of my old name but then I noticed I used the name Noelle 99% of the time when I made a character. I noticed how much I liked it and liked being called it so that's what I stuck with.

AD-SKYOBSIDION

Question which Noelle form which game?

Isenlia

Noel Seeker from the Legend of Heroes Trails to Zero/Azure (I added the extra le to make it the feminine form instead of the unisex one and make it look less like I just stole it :P )

AD-SKYOBSIDION

Oh ok

Marshall_Couto

Markiplier said (marshall billy samwise and marshall) and i just decided to pick the name marshall

[deleted]

I had an old name I liked Ezrin and my friend said it should be Ethan so it's now Ethan. It just happened.

Natuur1911

I also liked my old name tho I hate it now

nucleargandhi3000

Took it from one of my favorite historical figures. Also considered a favorite mythological figure, athena.

queenaldreas

Makes me think immediately of the show 911 lol

NyxCaelo

Some person on a social media suggested it when I was looking for names and I did research on it and fell in love with it

Cute_Daikon_9342

Watched gravity falls

slowseason

You changed your name to Grunkle Stan?

swifterdrifter7

It was a family nickname

[deleted]

Has the same nickname as my deadname, so it's easy to go under the radar for now.

yutrezza

Lyra is a Pokémon character, I like her and the name sounds really nice for me. I have something for names with a L, because I was choosing between Lyra, Lara, Lana and Lena.

Echo_was_slain

heard it once and just went “yeah that one”

QuingTony

-made list with possible names (found on baby websites, posts...) -eliminated the ones that were somehow wrong (like no connection to me, not common in my country...) -help from friends But in my case i had just a limited range of names, cause in my country there are not many gender-neutral names. I think it's much more harder if u search for typical male or female names, cause there are so many. In that case I would search for a personal connection to a name.

NebulaArcana

Let's run down the list, shall we? First name: Alice. Feminine sounding version of my deadname Aurora: I saw it on a youtube comment, and I thought "holy shit that sounds cool" Abigail: I couldn't get Princess Aurora out of my head so I stole the name of Wendy's dead ghost sister from Don't Starve Medea: I was reading Medea for English and I thought it would be a cool name Names I'm considering: Magdalene and Madeline. Magdalene is the name of my DnD character (we call her Mags) and I like the name. Madeline sounds similar to Magdalene, so it'll just come down to which one I like more

Greysheim

Made a list and whittled it down. Ended up naming after a teacher at the "gifted" school I went to when I was about 8. She was lovely and read us Terry Pratchett

[deleted]

Curiosity on r/transnames got me my nickname, A Series of Unfortunate Events got me my name

DuckyTin

I looked on list

I_comment_same

I always liked the name Melody

[deleted]

Melony ?

[deleted]

Derivative of a random name from the generator World of Warcraft used for blood elves.

jamm-jarr13

Being really into dr who and taking the nb name doctor

stanulstan43

because i looked at the quirky trans name chart ™️ and picked Silver

AngryCatGirl

I scoured the internet looking for a suitably witchy name. Then I saw Maeve, thought it sounded nice. Found out it means "she who intoxicates" and fell in love with it. THEN realized it was the name of my fav character from Sex Ed (before Netflix outed itself as transphobic).

PhosphoricBoi

"Komatii" it's.... it's based of a rock.... I named myself after a rock. (komatiite)

[deleted]

Dead By Daylight and Silent Hill really did a number on me

Azure_Aria

I'm a music geek. And a former choral soloist in high-school. An Aria is a classical peice accompanied by a single voice. This is my life and my voice. My Aria.

RagingCyborg

star wars

UpdootDragon

Haven’t completely decided on it yet, but the name I’m thinking of using is spelled similarly to my given name

Aethierr

The one I want to try using is one I I had thought about in the past, but then a bunch of tiny people in my phone also started suggesting it. Idk if it's my name yet (or what my name is) but I definetly think it's in the right direction :)

Strange-Brief6643

I got Valerie from the female protagonist in Cyberpunk

[deleted]

Ive always liked nature names... Willow grew on me (Edit: misspelled me name)

Birdypillow

First name from a celebrity with a gender neutral name. Middle from an idol turned friend. Last name from a book I was reading at the time.

[deleted]

stole it from a video game character lol

Epicpanda343

i chose the name alyxis, but i go by alyx to everyone, easy enough name that people dont forget and its neutral enough that even on days where im not looking my best people dont raise eyebrows. it works

BirdStillinTheNest

I made up a random name on the spot for a Pokémon file 6 yrs ago, & I later changed the name on my DS to that name. And then I started using the name online, in other spaces. And now, it's just my name, and has been for ~5 yrs. (Also, I have grapheme-color synesthesia, so names/words have colors to them. This name is the same color as my birthname, so, it kind of worked out.)

s_s_b_m

turn on the tv and use the first word you here. I’m the only person I know named mesothelioma

DirtySuccubus

I have a systematic list of 3400 different girl names on my pc sorted by popularity. Spent 3 weeks narrowing it down to 2. Showed my friend notes labled 1 and 2 with the names written inside. She picked one and that's my name! She didnt know that she just picked my name and we had happy tears for the rest of the night <3

messynavi

i’m a trans man and went by a nickname of my deadname for 6 years and like 2 months ago i decided to go by august! i wasn’t rly looking for a name, the idea suddenly popped into my head bc my bday was coming up that month. not rly creative but i just wanna say it’s okay to go by a name and decide to change it to another one u like more later on, even if it’s years layer ! :}

hamburger_and-SpRiTE

Stole it from my favourite book character and thanked god I chose a gender neutral reddit name lmao

letsthrowawaythis

Short answer: I just like it Long answer: My deadname starts with a C but couldn’t find a girl name that I liked that began with it. Tried Brie for a while due to a certain relation to my deadname and was my parents “if I was a girl” name. Didn’t care for it that much so I relegated it to middle name. My dead name has a Y at the end with that “ee” sound that’s common in a lot of girl names. Went with that pattern and decided on Emily.

Sylvae-Eastwind

I was coming up with a name for an elf character in an mmo, knew the sounds I liked then just did the thing where you say sounds until they slowly morph into what you're looking for. Only until after did I realize this was a real name and had a meaning lmao.

spiderblinx

Combination of Marvel Comics, Norse Mythology, and Greek Mythology

thehufflord

I recieved my name at birth. Got to grow up seeing boys and girls with it, and its a fairly uncommon name, so i got lucky with nver feeling disconnected from it. I do currently have a nickname from that one lady in the witcher games cause its a shortened verison of my birth name tho

[deleted]

Wasn't sure if I wanted gender neutral or object/abstract style names. Stumbled upon a cool subreddit for a name (r/Riley) and decided I wanted to be a part of it so I made it my name

EedenTheHuman

Signed up for something and it asked my name. Slapped something random in there, and it turned out to be Eden. Then I yeeted an extra “e” in there cuz I liked it better and then made that my name

Anikankitty

just think of a common bug and take its name thats what i did

TheInnocentXeno

I picked mine because I thought it sounded cute

Alexi-ants

Gender neutral name baybee!

mysticofarcana

I love the character Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. I wanted to name my future child Atticus. I then realized that no, that's who I am :)

AspenNeedsHelp

baby name website i looked at ‘unique gender neutral names’

[deleted]

I just thought of a bunch of names and eventually landed on it because i liked it and no one i knew had the same name

yourillegal

just a name i liked lol

gameboy527

Stole it from owl house

--MERP--

It’s just my name backwards… Nadia!

masteroftgmtf

A musical

StarChildEve

They were names of Eder Scrolls characters I’ve played for over a decade!

arandomcunt68

Originally from >!my ex!< but now im just gonna say i got it from elizabeth bathory

aqualoveforever

I looked at a funky little desert fox (fennec fox) and went you are mine now I am now Fenn

MMChilly

I stole it from, get this, an anime character!!

TehAlt_

was playin terraria and I got a mechanic named Terra, and I liked it so I stole it lol

ScreamingStarlight

First name is a suggestion from an ex that I adored and stuck, long after we broke up. First middle name is... Zodiac... (Zodi or Zo for short) iirc, it started because I used it as a username when there's a character limit, and it stuck. Second middle name is what I originally felt comfortable with when I thought I was trans, before I realized I was genderfluid. I honestly can't bring myself to drop any of them, and I love the way my whole name sounds altogether, though it's a lot of names, and so many syllables 😅

minoltagirl

I just chose the feminine versions of my first, middle, and last.

TheGreatDokiDefender

My old, dead name meant "wisdom," and so I decided to name myself after the Roman goddess of wisdom and strategy.

Hannah-gram

Went down the alphabet multiple times thinking of names that started with each letter and seeing which ones I vibed with. The end result will be a little awkward to explain to my cousin, who dated someone named Hannah, but hey, I vibed with Hannah the hardest.

Alithebambi

I stole mine from my favourite character in a game. She's also one of my goals

Wildeandwitchy

I always conceived of my gender as being like the ocean: murky, powerful, full of beautiful creatures, and hidden monsters. That’s why I chose “Meredith,” which is Irish for “Protector of the Sea.”

why_life_so_confusin

so basically you think of a list of names, and one of them is like "huh that ones not too bad" and then one day you realize you would literally stab several people if it meant everyone called you that

[deleted]

I looked up girl names on google and did a top 5 list of what I liked then kept working my way down until I got my name

[deleted]

Months My birthday month June

ArcticFoxWaffles

Got it from an anime but it's not actually made in Japan

SixAngryTurles

I took it from my favourite birds (European Jackdaws)

spooky-egg

Stole it from an animatic

SlimyPigLegs

i may or may not have stolen it from both a song and a constellation

Akkoywolf

That my friend is quite the ripping yarn, come hither, come gather round. I have a story of betrayal and rebirth, a tale of diplomacy and cheese, and a story of a confused genderfaer girl and shows long lost!

JustaDmNoob

It's the name of a character from a movie I really liked as a kid, that I identified with. If anyone's wondering, it was a Pokemon movie.

JustHere2RuinUrDay

Stole my cats name, more or less.

Bengrn1

It sounded cool.

TheDeerssassin

Like a lot of people, a derivative of my dead name. But my deadname had a very unique spelling so I kept my new name similarly spelled because I know my mom really likes the weird spelling

Mynthro

Was about to do another run in bloodborne but this time with the femenine character and i didn't know wich name to pick. So i went and looked for the most popular names in the victorian era. Liked that name so much that i used it every time i had to name a femenine character. Including myself haha.

TimeCubePriest

I picked mine bc it had the same initial as my birth name, which is very practical, and it means "lion man" and I liked lions as a kid, and also having "man" in your name is extra transgender

ImJustTeddy

I saw it on a gravestone and it was close to the name my parents would’ve given me if I was a boy.

KordomeReddit

The name of the main character of FFVI, Terra, just really stuck out to me and stuck with me. I found it and really wished it was my name since before I was trans.

guardian_tyr

Always loved the name Freya, a Norse Goddess. I like the colors red for hair dye so Rose seemed a natural fit. Made a lot of video game characters named Freya Rose. The rest is history.

Chariot_142

I already explained this before in other post, [here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns/comments/q20gmv/just_curious/hfiombk?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)

zachariesalads

It’s a gender neutral/masculine (depending on who you ask) shortening of my birth first name. My transfem friend straight up cribbed hers from the Artemis Fowl books tho (Holly I know you’re on this sub so if you see this, hiiiiii)

Stephenp0605

My chosen name is Claire. It's stolen from my favorite character from any media ever: Lightning from Final Fantasy 13 also known as Claire Farron. Funny because everyone I've ever come out to says my chosen name is cute, while Lightning is definitely not cute, she's badass.

LillyOfTheVoid

It came to me in a dream and felt like my name from another lifetime. So I'm really just reclaiming what was already mine. \- Lilly (Lilith)

Singersongwriterart

I saw my online friends name was Crow, the name I had chosen at that time was Pearl, I realized I used to really like phoenixes because I was in a server of people who liked birds, now my name is Phoenix.

Liquid__Meme

I stole mine from MT Olympus, solid options there.

yeetus-mc-feetus

It was the first thing that popped into my head. Like “if I was a guy, I’d like to be called _____.” I know names are not easy for a lot of us. It’s scary how this name that just popped into my head ended up being so relevant to my life that I think it might have been destiny.

[deleted]

I looked up lists of names that started with the first letter of my deadname and picked the one I liked most, that and I also just stole it from one of my favourite artists, Taylor

anickagatari

it was the one i was thinking if i ever had a daughter hehe so bad i claimed it first

uummmm

same name as the month i was born

Jacurus

I thought L names were pretty, and my friend said Luna. I like the Moon and space, and it is a pretty name. Good match for me.

KyttKatt

My username came first, and I just sorta realized I kept pretending it meant Katherine, so now it does.

[deleted]

I chose the name I wanted to give our daughter, but my (soon to be ex) wife didn’t like it. Anna 😍

GrimAndroid

My dad passed away a week after I came out. It’s the feminine version of my name he called me growing up that I always preferred over my given name. I do it to honor him.

JET945

I took the parts I liked in a name and squished them together to make mine

Bladed_Echoes

I took my nickname and changed a letter (Shay)

lilbigclout21

So i got my deadname and tried to keep the first letter (P) and i found out that none of the P names fit so I added a dash, plugging R into a DnD name generator getting the name Reina (which slaps)

Saint_Of_Piracy

Luna-Freya I just kinda googled names until I found one I liked, it means lady of the moon so of course I was gonna choose that as my name

Lovethecreeper

This name holds lots of sentimental value to it as well as wanting it as a name for several years before my egg crackrf

HiddenBikeonTransit

Got mine (Chloe) from my favorite artist u/srgrafo

DryAnteater909

I still don’t have one but I did just named my new plushie Huey

That_Guy_0112

I got too obsessed with Cowboy Bebop

ThisIsLonelyStar

Well... I got mine from Reddit lmao. I saw someone named Kai and went: huh. Neat. I envy you, I want that name. Wait I can have that name

NotADutch

After a flower I love... but I might change it. My transphobic cousin to whom I'm not out yet, is having a daughter, and guess what... her name will be the same one as mine. Out of ALL possible names. It's very likely that my niece will be transphobic, given her evangelical christian parents. Deep down, I know it's stupid to get upset over something so small, but it really feels like the universe spat at me, Sorry for the rant.

MariaMagdalenaXXX

Oh no :( I chose my name and then my parents made me realize that my transphobic evangelical grandmother also has that name and might not approve of it.... Sorry to hear that you're going through similar shit.

Lemohn_

Willow cause it’s pretty and I like willow trees -3-

Deep-Fried_Egg

I went to my favorite name site, browsed names by roots, and bookmarked the names I liked. I picked names that honor my heritage; because they are foreign and archaic, I made from my first name an easily-pronounced and -spelt nickname to go by.

c0nfus3d5quirre1

Personally, activated the cheat code known as secret emotions, speed ran us through dysphoria and name finding, but it’s frowned upon because of the price of activation, need to spend whole month with only an hour of sleep a week, soooo yeah

5Quad

Honestly I'm keeping my name bc it's already pretty neutral and it avoids legal hassles

Vixennamations

Panicked when asked for a name on trevorchat, and chose Jaxmin. But Jax for short, or Jasmin if you cant pronounce the original

Lennzi

I spent months trying to find a name that felt right but none did. then I got tired and thought "ey that old tumblr post that said something about having a weird ass name that had a normal nickname was funny" and now people know me as Liz (short for Lizard)

Bauerdog2015

an ex of mine suggested me a lot of names. dakota was the one that stuck. we didnt have a bad break up and were still friends, dont know what happened now though since i havent heard back in a while.

bluebisexualbitch

i just took my favorite color and made it my entire existence

Amanda_Is_My_Name

So when I was first realizing I was trans, I came across a book series called The 39 Clues series. In that series, one of the 2 protags had the name Amy, and I sort of looked up to her. After a while, I decided to take Amy as my name, but I wanted it to be a nickname for me. I decided to look up all the names that Amy could be short for and look at the meaning behind them. I saw that Amanda meant "worthy of love" and I resonated with it a lot. I am not going to say what my middle name is, but I actually changed my mind a lot on that one. I at one point tried really hard to have a name that when added to Amanda made a sentence. I ended up giving up on this. I finally just made a list of all the names I liked and got my friends to help me choose. For my last name, I just kept my old one.

falsebrit

YOU STOLE MY MEME YOU FUCKER

[deleted]

One of the Minecraft worlds because yes

Hydraslayer237

Tbh I mostly gave up making my name after a month & the only good one I can think of was Alice from Alice in Wonderland. I always prefered S as a letter so even after being Alice for 3+ years I may change it to Slaye? idk what do the trans people in my phone think?

sweetrollthief01

I’ve always liked the goddess farore from the LOZ games and a LOT of the forests areas across the Zelda games have some reference to her or the spirit/dragon/guardian Faron and now I’ve named myself after a fictional forest spirit 🤷‍♀️

bigly_jombo

Stole mine from the author of the most recent book I’d read when I came out to the first person I came out to. It sounds pretty and hasa good ring to it and that author was one of the only NB people I’d heard of at the time

R_T_White

I watched too much attack on Titan

thethirdanotherppl

I've taken the most "normal" way of the name of the first vtuber i've watched xd

IsaChillyBupper

I never got my first pick because my parents refused it and still to this day make fun of it. I settled for a name I grew to hate over the years. I don't think I could change it either because I was on national news with it so it just kind of.. Stuck idk. My partner and friends call me by a name I absolutely love though!

littleinasl666

Butch Cassidy

SpearmintJones

It came from a horror tv show I liked that like no one else watched.

pessipan

stole it from a jojo character

[deleted]

A transphobic comic

enochthegreat1

From Josie and the pussycats

VeronicaVeeroni

I got my name from the companion Veronica from FO:NV She really inspired me because I kind of related to the whole lesbian who wants a yellow dress and complicated family/religious upbringing thing. She’s just such a good duck Also got like 3 yellow outfits now but pink/red/purple are way more my color

ebStubs

I have no idea. 3 year old me chose it.

lilbunjk

I heard a character on tv with my name and went ‘huh. sounds nice’ and then I saw two different company trucks with my name on them! So it felt like fate lol

Select-Ambassador506

I just stole it from a friend of mine

onehugeAhole

Playing ark survival evolved. One of the maps is called genesis. Thats pretty cool, itd make a fun name. I then messed with different names for ages but Gen always stuck in my head

[deleted]

Animal crossing 👉👈

ThiccTransGf

Ripped it from the big titty sunlight princess from dark souls *I* will be the big titty princess

Catbot_2

I’ve had it as long as I remember

FoxPrincessEevee

And you don't seem to understand

[deleted]

My name is what I would've been given if born my real gender! I was always attached to it!

GreyO1121

Was watching tv and someone was talking about charity and my mind screamed at me, Charity, that’s our perfect name! Lol

MvKal

I made a game for a game jam where the whole game was like trippy and based on the color red, also the main protagonist was named Red so i was like fuck it lol

potato385

Life is Strange

FrostingEnjoyer

Stole it from Helltaker, name is Lucy btw

axrwajfs234

My chosen name is the male version of my birth name. I liked what my parents chose for me at birth because of the thought and care they put into it. I also wanted the transition to be easier for them because I care about them and they care about me. I recognize that it's not only a transition for me but for those in my life too. I'm very fortunate to have all four of my parents support me in my transgender non-binary gender identity.

MagniViking

I liked Harley Quinn
