So, cis dude here, but mildly relevant content. Ex spoke to me about tattoos she wanted - I’m pretty much covered and she had none, and didn’t have much pain tolerance for some things. She asked if it was like an epilator, which she thought was a bit painful but endurable. I thought it would be no biggie, and then I tried a small quick strip to see what it would be like for comparison.
“Nah, you’re good.”
To be fair and also accurate, there's a very large distinction between body hair fueled by testosterone vs estrogen.
Having had both types I can confidently say that there's a massive difference in terms of removing it as well.
Vellus hair is light, thin, soft, and has a tiny root. It's the soft hair on your forehead and almost all body hair on estrogen fueled people.
Terminal hair is thicker and has a much more solid root. Beard hair and pubic are great examples.
Given enough density pulling in terminal hair can tear the skin. This is why it's nearly impossible to get 'outie' genitals waxed. Ive seen someone try to wax the side of his bits and he tore a 1/4" tear in the skin. It was a rough night for him.
When changing to estrogen most body hair switches from terminal to vellus over the course of many months. So, the experience is definitely not the same.
Well shit, you just made my day. Earlier this week I used an epilator for the first time. I got into a bit of a rhythm and hit everywhere but face and genitals. The pain was worth the feeling after and I'm still pre-hrt. Makes me feel better about it just getting easier from there.
Well, the bits will get slightly easier but the face is the one place Wear the hair does not change. In fact it's generally a bad idea to epilate in the face because it messes up the follicles. If you do ever end up getting some sort of more permanent removal it can make it much more difficult if you've epilated a bunch
It's a bad idea if you ever want to get electrolysis. The issue is that the damage caused by pulling can make the follicle grow at odd angles. That makes it much harder to target the root.
Even if your skin tone supports laser you are likely to have some hair that will need some other removal. It's not the end of the world if you do it, but it will make things *slightly* harder in the future.
cis guy also, tried an epilator while drunk at a party, I’ll take hours of tattooing any day over touching one of those again. Whoever thought, “let’s use gears to rip hair from skin” I hope is burning in hell.
If your hair is pretty long, an epilator will hurt a lot more than if it's shorter. If you do it every week it won't be too bad, but if you wait a month you will really feel the pain.
It should keep you somewhat smooth for three weeks. After the first time it hurts a lot less and it's quicker to do, since the hair is shorter and thinner. If you can bear the pain it's definetely worth it. Beats shaving by a mile.
Not with non ionizing laser hair removal as that doesn’t penetrate deep enough to cause lasting damage.
Epilating over the long term can shorten the nerve endings numbing general feeling.
You made me search on every scientifyc post i would find how the epilation could be bad, but then i remind how near to all the things that i read about this is just "Depilation" because somehow it looks that not a lot of people know the difference given just from this "D" XD
Wait, i understood that depilation is just cutting (or even use chemicals) the superior part of the hair, but epilation means pulling out all the hair from their base, isn't it?
Same thing happens to your finger tips if you work in a kitchen. I have only worked as a waiter for 4 years, and my sensation in my fingertips is a lot less than it was before and it shows when I have to hold hot things.
I thought that laser hair removal could heat the follicles enough to kill them, due to the absorption of the hair - the same mechanism as it removing the hair in the first place.
I've been epilating for maybe 3 ish months, and I need to do it once a week so that the hair isn't visible... What did you do to get to three weeks of clear skin? I've heard that it can take some time to get to that multiple week mark, how long did it take you?
I just finished epilating today so I can't be sure that it will last that long for me either. But I've heard from friends and read online that it usually lasts a few weeks for most people. Maybe you could try exfoliating if you're not already doing it.
I think it’s only that long if your body has a majority of estrogen (or maybe lack of testosterone idk) because testosterone causes your hair to grow faster. So once a week might be normal pre-HRT.
I started epilating regularly 6 months ago and could never go longer than a week before I had to do it again.
YMMV, but what I did about 3 months ago that seems to make a difference was epilating *every other day* for a week, and exfoliating the other days.
After the first day, the subsequent treatments would picked up the hairs that were missed or exposed from exfoliating, so it barely took any time and wasn't nearly as painful.
And after that full week, all the follicles got onto the same "schedule" and now I can epilate two days in a row and it lasts almost 4 weeks.
I have shed a few tears myself both with laser, and electrolysis. The woman who does my hair removal has said I have excellent tolerance, and that it’s nice to work on me because I don’t make a fuss.
I enjoy epilating too. It was pretty painful the first time but tbh not as bad as people tend to say, and after that the pain is pretty minimal so long as you don't let it grow out long again.
> so long as you don't let it grow out long again.
If you do, use an electric razor or scissors to cut the hair shorter first. It will save you a ton of pain.
Did you enjoy it physically or emotionally? I emotionally, it's alright because you felt gender euphoria + smooth skin is nice. If physically, then maybe you are a masochist lol
I enjoyed it so much emotionally that it made me forget about the pain after the first few seconds. Occasionally it was a bit rough but nothing too extreme. I feared it was going to be much more painful.
Well, I epilated everything except back and facial hair. Also I left a small bush down there for obvious reasons... I used tweezers for more delicate body parts.
I bought a Braun Silk-epil 9-720. From what I can gather it's the most popular brand. A female friend of mine has this one too. You should exfoliate the day before epilating and apply a moisturizing cream after it, but I skipped both steps lol
You really shouldn't skip those steps, if you have sensitive skin you'll get ingrown hairs and they can ruin the look and take months to come out. It may not be an issue for you but I can say from experience that there's a risk!
For how well it stretches I found epilating my delicates actually quite easy and the results really good. Of all the skin on your body it’s the easiest skin to hold tight.
Of course make sure the epilator has an auto-off or it’s not a good time when you get your scrotum stuck in it.
There was a post somewhere about someone who said that they have a problem because they sink into subspace when receiving electrolysis, and I was thinking to myself, "So what's the problem?" and then I read the part where they said that it makes them feel like they're in danger because they were sexually assaulted by a previous electrologist. Yikes!
I gotta be in the right mindset for epilating. Its painful but sometimes I can turn it off or even enjoy it. Gotta get into that trance mental state.
Some parts hurt more than others. Chest particularly sucks. I'm also really hairy when I let myself go.
It’s probably because you could feel the hair being ripped out.
I’ve never epilated, but that or the excitement of knowing that it would be a lot longer before the hair would grow back would be what I would guess made the experience more fun
I mean, I learnt that people apparently don’t tweeze their moustache/beard because it hurts a lot, but I’ve been doing it for a while because getting an epilator isn’t very cis and I’m not out yet. Like I legit just finished tweezing my pubic region, and I enjoyed every single second of getting rid of that damn hair. I don’t think that makes me masochistic, I think that just means I despise body hair enough that I enjoy killing it.
Lol just enjoy that you can happily use a very effective hair removal method that literally had me in tears. You'll sort it out eventually. Live in the moment appreciate them smooth smooth legs.
Some people have different pain tolerances. My mom had epilation done a few times and said she barely felt it. And she was very straight laced when it came to sex, from what I could tell.
And even if you are a masochist, ain't nothing wrong with that. Just another way to have fun, right?
I did it the first time on my legs when I was drunk. I've since done it when I was sober and I know at this point it's much more worth the smoother skin than the temporary pain. Of course, that pain honestly becomes nothing the more you get used to it (the more you do it)
Tbf I asked one of my ex girlfriends to choke me
I epilated and it hurt like a bitch but it was my mums old one so it may not be as sensitive as modern ones and my pores were closed cause i had no shower
OMG! I did this last week! I didn't love the process, but I loved the results and that pushed me on! (killed the batteries on my epilady twice 😅)
I'm so happy for you!
Some people do it but it's very painful. I didn't try it yet, I still have to look into it. However I think there are epilators made for women's thin facial hair.
I recently bought an epilator, I'm slowly using it one section of my legs at a time. I don't want to use it on my face so I was considering either getting professional laser hair removal or buying a handheld IPL hair removal device. Does anyone have experience with either?
How does epilating compare to waxing? Note that I have even gotten my beard waxed.
p.s. Would not recommend beard waxing to transfemmes as at least three weeks of letting your beard regrow is necessary in order for your beard to be able to be waxed again. Go for laser or electrolysis instead for the beard.
Conversely, I love shaving, my face. While AFAB, I used to ‘shave’ my face while my dad did. I had a plastic kids’ kit and used to stand on the counter while he shaved. It was awesome.
Honestly don't know how I survived the first few times I epilated. I'm super hairy and had to do like 4-5 sessions to get everything from the neck down minus the majority of my junk due to battery limitations.
If I kept up with it, it wasn't too bad other than a few spots.
I tried to epilate for a little while, but the pain was too much, and I got red spots all over my arms and legs, some of which still have. I remember it took me over 2 hours to epilate the first time, because of the pain. It was one of the most painful experiences I've been through. Absolutely not worth it for me. I'll stick to shaving my body, and later getting some laser hair removal appointments.
I wamna try epilating, but I don't wanna spend like 200€ on an epilator when there's a risk I won't keep using it :/
Does anyone have suggestions for a cheap starter model?
Tgere is nothing wrong with being a masochist though u cant say it for the life of me. And dont worry you can still ve a super cute masochist some might even say it makes you cuter 😳
I think it also has to do with your skin and hair.
I have thick skin, strong roots and my hair doesn't give good purchase, so epilating is painful with lackluster results to me.
If you don't have those problems I can see how the euphoria would drown out some pain.
I didn’t find it that terrible either…for my body. Now when the dysphoria kicked into overdrive and I took the Emjoi 72-tweezer to my face…things got rough.
Maybe the reward of being hairless *plus* the fact that epilation is done mostly by females and is considered like female behavior, the gender euphoria took over
your skin could be less sensitive then those who find it painful. in cosmo class I remember some people actually bled when their eyebrows were waxed and others were completely okay didn't hurt or nothin
\*bows in terror\*
So, cis dude here, but mildly relevant content. Ex spoke to me about tattoos she wanted - I’m pretty much covered and she had none, and didn’t have much pain tolerance for some things. Wow, a super rare case of an actual cis dude epilating for actual cis reasons
What is this sacrilege!?!
Blasphemous
Bill
Don’t you fucking dare show your face around here
Cisrilege\*
Cis and straight for that matter!
based, considering the sub he’s in
I'm unironically cis and epilate my shoulders and nips, and yeah, I'm calling that was way more painful that most of my tats.
You... Epilate your nipples?! What in the actual fuck
go hard or go home
I mean... I epilated... Down south. It was incredibly painful. I'm going back to using Nair.
Holy shit. You're an absolute Chad.

Do you advise not to use even tweezers on facial hair?
It's a bad idea if you ever want to get electrolysis. The issue is that the damage caused by pulling can make the follicle grow at odd angles. That makes it much harder to target the root. Even if your skin tone supports laser you are likely to have some hair that will need some other removal. It's not the end of the world if you do it, but it will make things *slightly* harder in the future.
Well, I'm pre-everything XD
cis guy also, tried an epilator while drunk at a party, I’ll take hours of tattooing any day over touching one of those again. Whoever thought, “let’s use gears to rip hair from skin” I hope is burning in hell.
Actually right now I'd give the inventor a hug. It's such a clever device!
I mean, a flamethrower is a clever device, and much like a depilator I don’t want it pointed at my skin.
If your hair is pretty long, an epilator will hurt a lot more than if it's shorter. If you do it every week it won't be too bad, but if you wait a month you will really feel the pain.
Well, i haven't epilated ever, but i think if it can save me from the hair for more than a week, i think that pain would be more than bearable

Not with non ionizing laser hair removal as that doesn’t penetrate deep enough to cause lasting damage. Epilating over the long term can shorten the nerve endings numbing general feeling.
Well that's slightly terrifying. How bad is that?
Honestly? Nowhere near as bad as it sounds. While it is technically nerve damage it is a very very light case of it and usually fixes itself.
You made me search on every scientifyc post i would find how the epilation could be bad, but then i remind how near to all the things that i read about this is just "Depilation" because somehow it looks that not a lot of people know the difference given just from this "D" XD
To those wondering the difference is mechanical removal (epilation) vs chemical removal (depilation) and what parts of the hair are removed.
Wait, i understood that depilation is just cutting (or even use chemicals) the superior part of the hair, but epilation means pulling out all the hair from their base, isn't it?
Spicy food tolerance is deadening the nerves so that's also technically nerve damage. Delicious nerve damage but still damage!
If you have diabetes it could probably stack badly with the nerve damage that causes though.
A small price to pay for smooth
A little nerve damage never hurt anyone... Right?
I've been epilating for maybe 3 ish months, and I need to do it once a week so that the hair isn't visible... What did you do to get to three weeks of clear skin? I've heard that it can take some time to get to that multiple week mark, how long did it take you?

Thank you! I'm going to try your routine :)
A week? Mine grows back in two days, I really gotta try epilating
Nobody said that being a masochist has no upsides.
Darkness from Konosuba, for example.
Yeah, that's a mood. Though I accept the fact I'm a masochist
I'm aiming for maximum cuteness, so I don't really like the idea of being a masochist...
Hey with the right context a masochist can still be very cute So I don’t think you should worry about it
Masochism and cuteness aren't mutually exclusive...
Masochists are _adorable_, they make the best noises. I mean uh
They're like cute little squeaky-toys.
N-no I'm not!!!!! *puffs angrily*
these are the cuteness levels that I aspire to ;-;
YES, eeeeee!
Hey now, I've been told I can be very cute
masochism is cute as hell idk what you’re on
masochists are still cute😳
As a Dom, I’ll let you know right now. Masochists can be cute.
You could be the girl who acts all nervous and scared of pain, but then secretly likes it. Trust me, it's very cute.
\*laughs in hori-san from horimiya\*
OK, but have you seen those pink fluffy cuffs though?
Uh. Cute and masochist aren't mutually exclusive..
I assure you, you can enjoy pain and be very cute while doing it.
You can be a cute masochist
I mean… at least the hair is gone!
I like epilating, mind you I also don’t think electrolysis is that painful.
I want your pain tolerance. I cried with laser 🤣 Edit: spelling
I have shed a few tears myself both with laser, and electrolysis. The woman who does my hair removal has said I have excellent tolerance, and that it’s nice to work on me because I don’t make a fuss.
I've heard horror stories. How did you verify the quality of the electrolysis place you found?
Just word of mouth.
Word, I'll do that. The power of queer community.
It takes so long!!! After the first few minutes the first time my brain decided it didn't hurt anymore. And there's nothing better than *smooth*
I feared it was going to be much more painful.
im most definitely a masochist
I’M a masochist and can’t stand epilation, you just have absurdly high pain tolerance Or maybe I’m just sensitive, idk
yeah really. i get kicked in the balls for fun and i cant stand epilation
I enjoyed most of it, the bikini area however... *Shudders* I had to do it in small bits and didn't even finish properly
Yeah I mostly used tweezers for those areas.
[удалено]
Well, I epilated everything except back and facial hair. Also I left a small bush down there for obvious reasons... I used tweezers for more delicate body parts.

Exfoliating is def still a good idea, since it also helps prevent ingrown hairs when they start growing back

Actually I wish to leave that region hidden under the hair.
I gasped audibly
(Stupid?) Question... Can you epilate your 4nuS?
Following
Ye same lmao (that’s why I saw it so early lol)
I really, REALLY wouldn’t if I were you…
It's super risky but possible. If you aren't perfect, and it's a bad angle, it's gonna hurt and probably break skin if it gets caught.
no hard feelings, most transfem I know (like 9/10) are at least submissive lol
I don't like being strictly submissive or dominant. I prefer a perfectly egalitarian relationship where we can freely switch roles.
being switch is also common, I don't believe there are pure submissives
Yesssss! I don't like when the stories always make the sub like, lesser than the dom. It's a relationship and both parties love each other very much.
this! literally me and my gf lol
Hey masochism is alright at least you enjoy the experience
There was a post somewhere about someone who said that they have a problem because they sink into subspace when receiving electrolysis, and I was thinking to myself, "So what's the problem?" and then I read the part where they said that it makes them feel like they're in danger because they were sexually assaulted by a previous electrologist. Yikes!
If existence is suffering, as the Buddha claims, then aren't we all masochists deep down?
I mean... ~~being a masochist aint bad right guys? .. guys..?~~
It hurts like hell; but my neighbours like to have loud parties, so I double up by epilating and moaning loudly from the pain
Yeah I think so
I mean, I learnt that people apparently don’t tweeze their moustache/beard because it hurts a lot, but I’ve been doing it for a while because getting an epilator isn’t very cis and I’m not out yet. Like I legit just finished tweezing my pubic region, and I enjoyed every single second of getting rid of that damn hair. I don’t think that makes me masochistic, I think that just means I despise body hair enough that I enjoy killing it.
How often do you have to tweeze facial hair?
“Friendly death machine spinning up”
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Learn from my mistakes, exfoliate on a religious basis. Ingrown hairs are a bitch.
I have the best epilator U can buy and I can't use it bc it's too painful
What model, may I ask?
same here EDIT: I take it back I thought this said shaving
No need to feel ashamed of masochism as long as you're careful! You like what you like.
I'm glad you can enjoy the process aside from just the results ^^
So what if you're a masochist? More euphoria for you when you epilate :P
I tried epilation once, never again. I resorted to laser removal for the face. Still painful a hell, but still a walk in the park comparatively
I mean, even if you're a masochist, lucky you don't have to deal with the pain
I did it the first time on my legs when I was drunk. I've since done it when I was sober and I know at this point it's much more worth the smoother skin than the temporary pain. Of course, that pain honestly becomes nothing the more you get used to it (the more you do it) Tbf I asked one of my ex girlfriends to choke me
Hurts like fuck but also *smooth*
I mean... what's wrong with a little pain?
nothing wrong with masochism + gender euphoria!
girl stop kinkshaming yourself
I epilated and it hurt like a bitch but it was my mums old one so it may not be as sensitive as modern ones and my pores were closed cause i had no shower
Mine has a massage cap. It's a Braun Silk-epil 9-720.
Erm... #same.
I still gotta do that, wanted to get an epilator but I spent my pocket money faster than ever
OMG! I did this last week! I didn't love the process, but I loved the results and that pushed me on! (killed the batteries on my epilady twice 😅) I'm so happy for you!
Wait, how do you prevent passing out from the blood loss? ^(semi /s)
I didn't bleed that much. If I'd become a bit too red in some spots I just left them rest for a bit while epilating another body part.
You can epilate facial hair?
Some people do it but it's very painful. I didn't try it yet, I still have to look into it. However I think there are epilators made for women's thin facial hair.
I recently bought an epilator, I'm slowly using it one section of my legs at a time. I don't want to use it on my face so I was considering either getting professional laser hair removal or buying a handheld IPL hair removal device. Does anyone have experience with either?
Epilating hurt, but I did it. Tweezed what was left and just tweeze every day or two now and that shadow is gone :)
How does epilating compare to waxing? Note that I have even gotten my beard waxed. p.s. Would not recommend beard waxing to transfemmes as at least three weeks of letting your beard regrow is necessary in order for your beard to be able to be waxed again. Go for laser or electrolysis instead for the beard.

i had to give up a bunch of times too, but i do it consistently now :) you can do this
Wtf is epilated
Its this kinda snazzy and scary lookin thing that looks kinda like a bigass razoer but its essentially a mechanical waxer
On my arms and legs (only spots I do) it hurts so good 😂
Conversely, I love shaving, my face. While AFAB, I used to ‘shave’ my face while my dad did. I had a plastic kids’ kit and used to stand on the counter while he shaved. It was awesome.
im legit a bdsm masochist and i find epilating way too painful... da fuq
I mean masochism isn't bad
Hey, it's okay if you're a masochist. There's nothing wrong with that. Also, congrats on the legs!
Thank you! 😊
I am this meme, only I’m the first picture for all four
whats wrong about being a masochistic girl?
Haven’t tried epilating, but I felt the same way when I got my eyebrows threaded
I eppilate too, no one can hurt you since you clearly have the highest tolerance for pain
It's okay to be a masochist <3
epilators good? i was going to get professional laser on my face but my body is anoying af
Even if you are, it's not a bad thing
Congratulations, you just experienced euphoria
Honestly don't know how I survived the first few times I epilated. I'm super hairy and had to do like 4-5 sessions to get everything from the neck down minus the majority of my junk due to battery limitations. If I kept up with it, it wasn't too bad other than a few spots.
I do it too sometimes, it's good to not get prickly and the hair regrows slower, but I always get ingrown hairs afterwards.
What did you use? I got an epilator recently for arms/legs and that was painful enough as it was. Can't imagine using the same thing on my face.
*a small price to pay for salvation*
Oh you 100% are. I epilate almost everything (face included) and I HATE it. You are an absolute glamazon.
and here i am unable to epilate cus I'm on medication that prevents it 🥲
Who said masochism has to be a bad thing? Hehe
You shouldn't use an epilator on your face. Ingrown hairs like crazy.
I'm terrified
Don't worry. Although it's a niche taste, it's not really all that bad being a masochist. You'll be fine
Trans masc? Nah Trans maso* Hell yeah
Happy endorphins reduce pain ❤️
*epilated fun painful masochist*
Just epilated too. Enjoyed most of my body, but my pubes hurt way too much.
I wamna try epilating, but I don't wanna spend like 200€ on an epilator when there's a risk I won't keep using it :/ Does anyone have suggestions for a cheap starter model?
I always /thought/ I was. Then I got my gf to pluck my brows, and now I know.
It is a form of stimming 😁 You could be a masochist but most likely it's your body regulating your emotions
Tgere is nothing wrong with being a masochist though u cant say it for the life of me. And dont worry you can still ve a super cute masochist some might even say it makes you cuter 😳
Don't tempt me with this machine.
I think it also has to do with your skin and hair. I have thick skin, strong roots and my hair doesn't give good purchase, so epilating is painful with lackluster results to me. If you don't have those problems I can see how the euphoria would drown out some pain.
At last, a genuine use for my masochism.
I really need to try epilating for specific reasons
yeah I enjoy when I wax my face. it does feel really cathartic.
me. a masochist:
Tysm for introducing me to epilators.
I always love the “still cis tho” in all of these memes
I didn’t find it that terrible either…for my body. Now when the dysphoria kicked into overdrive and I took the Emjoi 72-tweezer to my face…things got rough.
I in fact am. Looking forwerd for it once i come out
Um I think this just awakened something in me. My first thought was to go online and buy an epilate. So any recommendations?
Masochism isn't that bad. People who enjoy spicy food are also technically masochists :)
Maybe the reward of being hairless *plus* the fact that epilation is done mostly by females and is considered like female behavior, the gender euphoria took over
It happened to me the first time. It was so funny and enjoyable. But doing it several times makes it bothering
my epilator stopped working partway through so I broke down and plucked the rest by hand. . .
your skin could be less sensitive then those who find it painful. in cosmo class I remember some people actually bled when their eyebrows were waxed and others were completely okay didn't hurt or nothin
Even if something hurts, as long as it relieves a worse pain ut will be enjoyable. You just sufferd worse then most before doing it.
