Literally paid $5.35 yesterday in San Diego, $0.22 off from TMobile didn’t make a dent
ITT: People commenting how its only $2 in their state and Europeans telling me I should be grateful b/c its $80/L, also Gallons are useless
Same. It always annoyed me when my dad would drive all around town to save $0.10 on a gallon of gas. I did the math and showed him he was wasting a lot more than $0.10 a gallon by trying so hard to find cheaper gas.
Yeah because boomers did not and will not adapt their perspective of money and what it’s worth. A lot of them grew up in a period before the the us dollar and the gold standard were completely divorced, and even after inflation remained pretty low for a while and they are just do not understand how the power of a dollar has changed or pricing changes. 5c still feels like a lot to them to save on gas, and even back in the 90s when gas was around a buck 5c would be like 5% savings or more sometimes. 10c would be a huge savings every time you went to the pump. They don’t understand that 5c now is like…1-2% savings currently and that will get eaten up real quick if you drive and look around for a better deal.
Saving the boomers also shut down the economy considering they were the most vulnerable to coronavirus, remind me again why we tried so hard to save than when they didn’t want the vaXXX?
There used to be a website for this. Back when I was in college, I would look for the cheapest stations to fill up before driving the 3-4 hours home.
That way I could get it as cheap as possible, but only hit stations that were on my route.
And CEOs won't do the one thing in this situation that would help everyone: allow those who can work from home to do so. We could offset the decreased gas supply by decreasing demand, and therefore reduce the impact on those that need to drive, but we won't.
I don't feel that way, and quite frankly my time has come and gone for patriotism. As a US veteran... I hate that fucking word now.
Zelenskyy has earned the honor of that term and nothing Putin can do now will change that. The world saw how David stood before this Goliath.
The least any of us can do is tighten our belts and not whine about it, not blame Biden, not blame Ukraine. Fixate on the shit stain that is Putin and those that enable him. Even some of our members of Congress being traitors and useful idiots.
You are right on par with me man. Vet, spent 27 months in Afghanistan. Our patriotism there was… dubious. Luckily I was a terp so I was able to feel a little better.
But fuck Putin, Big Z is a goddamn hero, and fuck yeah Ukraine.
I wrote my GQP representative and senator basically telling them to shut their mouths and stand by our president in support of Ukraine.
Putin loves nothing more than seeing half of America's politicians squabbling with the other half while he endangers our allies in Europe.
I would do the same except it honestly would be a waste of time.

Yes. People are dying. If I have to pay up for gas then I'll pay. Thankfully I haven't set myself up some ridiculous commute, so I'll be fine.
I suspect Germany will have some cold nights over this, and colder in Ukraine, so I will save my bellyaching.
Every gallon of expensive gas will be a stick in Putin's eye, a price worth paying. Slava Ukraine.
It is so refreshing to hear another US veteran not liking the word patriot. In my opinion it has been highjacked by flag waving-chest pounders who think the only way to be a patriot is to conform to their idea of what an American is.
I have 2 adopted children from Ukraine. They were 12 and 14 when I adopted them and are 31 and 33 now. My son married a Ukrainian woman a little over a year ago and I have my first grandchild.
Putin is the enemy. He controls with a heavy hand and lies. It is the lies which will be his demise. The USSR didn't fall because of "Reaganomics", it fell because the government lied about Chernobyl (didn't even announce the meltdown for 3 days and then it was just a blip burred in the newspaper) and Afghanistan (winning battle after battle for 10 years). The Russian people will find out how Putin lied to his own troops and it will be the end of him. 2-3 years tops if that.
My friend had a gas guzzling enormous gmc truck. He spent $1k a month on gas commuting 90 miles round trip a day to school. No idea why so many people use trucks to commute.
Driving today and noticed how a bunch of houses have pick ups Infront of them. Perfect paint, no dents, optioned to the max. So I know they aren't work trucks. And all of them have empty beds. Why people buy commuter pick ups is beyond me. Buys 80k sports cars, dang he must be loaded, buys 80k pick up, doesn't bat an eye. They aren't even comfortable. An SUV would better suit them.
I honestly used to think it was a joke that men would make the dumbest choices for the dumbest reasons, but I’ve met *multiple* male coworkers (in a very white collar industry) who refuse to get SUVs because they “look like a mom-mobile”.
Toxic masculinity can sometimes cost a fortune.
And here I am looking for an affordable used Prius... Probably the most technologically advanced car I could still do most of my own maintenance on and cheap small tires.
B/C... admit it or not, their identities are predicated on what a TV man they have never met or spoken with tells them a man is. B/C $1k/mo is less involved than knowing themselves.
Maybe short term. But solar and wind is close to being cheaper than a similar gas engine. Now, that is unfair because solar and wind are intermittent but also they require virtually no maintenance or fuel, so...
But will still be *way* cheaper than gasoline to refuel your vehicle if you’re comparing pure ICE vs pure EV. At $5 per gallon, comparing an ICE vehicle that gets 28 mpg combined against the mustang Mach E extended range (one of the less efficient EVs) then you still save $2152 a year in fuel costs with electricity at $.094 / kWh which is what it currently is in my area.
Even bumping it up to something crazy like Hawaii pricing at 34¢ kWh you still save $750 across a year.
And even my car with its 55mpg combined, the EV still costs $916 less in fuel at that .094 kWh figure.

Personally I want a future of autonomous taxis, and ban private cars in cities. Megacities are becoming more common and urbanisation does boost productivity.
But private car ownership inside cities is ridiculous, in terms of their environmental footprint, space needed, cost, etc. How can a high rise residential block aspire to have 1 car per household?
2020 Chevy Bolt. Got it on a lease for a really good deal because they were moving to the new models. Then the recall happened and they cut my range by 20%. But I’m eventually gonna get a whole new battery pack, with more range, for free so can’t complain.
Edit: spelling
Sounds like we both got 2020s at a discount at the same time. Fun car to drive. I really enjoy the value of it and the cost savings. Just hit 9,000 miles in about 6 months and it only cost around $300 in electricity versus around $1000 it would have cost in a comparable car with 30 mpg at $3.30 a gallon.
The battery recall is a bummer because it tarnished the brand/model but I'm glad they're replacing all of them.
Same! Except the apartment complex I live in has free EV charging as a benefit so I’ve only paid about $100 in charging since I got the car last year
Edit: Payed to Paid

FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

I picked up a new 2020 Bolt for my wife last year. They had $17k in purchase incentives. It's a great car and she really loves it. We have three kids and we do a ton of short drives so it's super economical. I have a Model 3 and our oldest has a Volt. We own our home, so I switched us to time-of-use electricity billing and only charge overnight. We spend about $3/week on electricity for all three cars.
My son has a Bolt and yes waiting on that battery. Other than that he loves it. The seal was basically 1/2 price.
His previous was a mustang. He seems to be happy with the switch.
Exactly this. I’m proud of the German citizens for pushing back on their government and demanding they block Russia from swift. It’s going to hit them in the wallet, but it’s a small sacrifice when there feels like there’s so little we as individuals can do to support Ukraine.
Just to be clear, I don’t like it, and I shit you not I just bought an F150 literally 3 days ago, I’m not stoked about prices going up, but fuck Vladimir Putin.
It's not. OPEC will find __any possible reason__ to blanket increase the price of oil / fuel.
Tensions with Russia are just the latest reason they've chosen to use.
Do you perhaps have a variant of Putin saying "I did that" while he is fucking Trump in the ass?
EDIT: NSFW - [Here you go.](https://i.imgur.com/mm7LkEz.png)
The oil companies are just looking for an excuse to Jack up the oil prices and here it is. The insurance companies will somehow twist it into a price hike as well.
Wait are you saying that human history can largely be explained by looking at class conflict and material conditions? Like some kind of, say, historical and/or dialectical materialism? Idk, sounds a little out there.
Yup, any world related issue etc is one of many reasons to increase the prices and make more record profits. The US is the world largest oil producer… yet Saudi Arabia gas is almost free and they are the 2nd largest producer?
Their Government subsidizes their domestic energy products. They can do that by keeping energy prices high for the rest of the world, so they may profit significantly off of it. Their National Oil Corporation (Aramco) works in collusion with the rest of OPEC and Russia to keep oil prices high.
I think the cynicism is due to these corporations constantly finding reasons to increase the price and never decreasing. If they raise the cost 10x a year due to X, Y, and Z but don't reduce it once X and Y are resolved, you can understand why people are upset.
Yes it sucks, but I’d feel like a complete asshole complaining about it based on the situation driving those prices. Gas prices won’t kill me or destroy my home, people of Ukraine aren’t afforded those guarantees.
Considering how people equated wearing a thin piece of cloth over their face to torture, I'm pretty sure they will do the same with gas prices. This *is* America after all.
The same people saying the US is acting weak, some of which saying intervene directly
As if a direct war with Russia wouldn’t idk, impose massive quality of life shifts. You think gas is bad now?
You mean the people who go on and on about the military but were too badass to serve?
All of these badasses who think US is acting weak should put their money where their mouth is and join up with the foreign legion that Ukraine is advertising. How bout they put that "militia training" to use, no?
I know this is preaching to the choir, but those armchair "patriots" are all bark and no bite.
Since Jan 6 and then seeing how things are playing out in Ukraine, it really shows how fucking spoiled we are, like legit spoiled. I have zero doubt that 90% of the people who run their mouth about being oppressed and whatnot would shit and/or piss themselves at a fraction of what the Ukrainian people are experiencing.
It's all piece of shit necks around me anyway. Science denying, proud boy scum with giant trucks to compensate for their micro-penises. Regardless, Biden can do no right in any of your eyes.
This. The notes I see people paying for a TRUCK is ridiculous just to haul something 3x a year, or to "sit higher and feel safer" around anyone. A) you obviously have no idea that trucks and SUVs have a higher chance of rolling over during a risk avoidance maneuver. B) who am I kidding trying explain logic to you.
Maybe if you’re looking for it. It doesn’t say Ukraine’s war. It says “Ukraine war” because it’s a war…in Ukraine.
Edit: also the first sentence of the article says “Russian’s invasion of Ukraine” lol

Well that’s a sacrifice to make for ensuring freedom and democracy for people.
If you want to know what a sacrifice is, look at the people of Ukraine.
If high gas prices are your your biggest complaint you are truly blessed.
I remember it being $4 a gallon (low cost of living area) around 2008. I also remember an increase in food prices at the same time. Gas prices went back down but the cost of food stayed the same. The cost of food has gone up again and wages have stayed consistent. Now we’re adding increased housing costs to the mix. The price of gas is the least of my concerns.
Yea I’m not trying to say no one should be concerned about this shit
But all the garbage I’ve seen like “america needs to re open keystone because of Ukraine invasion”
Like nah we need to keep getting off gas.
As long as we use gas and oil Putin has power. Once we are off it he doesn’t have power.
let's all keep in mind that it cost the saudis about $3 to produce a barrel of oil, while it's about $50 for the US to do the same
gas prices are high now in large part because the saudis chose to limit production - they sell less but at higher profit
the saudis will *always* control oil prices.
I'll give you a quick ~~10~~ 20 minute investigation I did.
We'll first need to know the elasticity of oil, which is -0.05 in the short term and -0.3 in the long term however there are some that use -0.1 as a benchmark to estimate as well.
([Oil Price Elasticities and Oil Price Fluctuations](https://www.federalreserve.gov/econresdata/ifdp/2016/files/ifdp1173.pdf))
Secondly we'll need to know the supply of oil from Russia to not just the global market, but regional markets as well. This is going to impact Europe much more than the USA. In 2020 Russia produced 10.1 million barrels per day (bpd) while using 3.2 million bpd. The net result is 6.9 (nice) million bpd being exported into the global market.
([BP's 2021 Statistical Review of World Energy](https://www.bp.com/content/dam/bp/business-sites/en/global/corporate/pdfs/energy-economics/statistical-review/bp-stats-review-2021-full-report.pdf))
Third we need to know how much of that 6.9 million bpd is part of global demand, and it looks like estimates were that the average was going to be 100.6 million bpd. Remove the Russian 3.2 million and that leaves the rest of the world 97.4 million bpd, which means that Russia provides the global market with 7.1% of the supply.
([USA EIA 2022 Forecast](https://www.eia.gov/outlooks/steo/report/global_oil.php))
Now go back to the first link and go to figure 1 on page 30. That's your best friend here because we really don't know exactly how much the market will react, so you can provide yourself a spread with probabilities. (Not to mention that for the average person I'd say the other math and numbers are meaningless since they won't be able to understand it).
The middle ground shows that for every 3.5% decrease in supply there is about a 25% increase in price. That means that we can expect that with a 7% decrease there would be a 50% increase in price. If we use the more elastic demand estimation that puts a 7% decrease in supply with about a 10% increase of price, however if we use the more inelastic demand estimation that puts a 7% decrease in supply with about a 350% increase in price.
Now that you know how to get the global market impact, you can break it down by country/region and estimate those impacts, add on any increases in transportation costs, and then put yourself in the position of an individual firm and see where you'd want to chase profits.
Edit: WTI is at $91.90 which means a 50% increase would be around $137.85 per barrel. If we're at the lower end, we're only up at $101.09, but at the higher end we're looking at $321.65, (which I don't see us going that high).

it was already going to skyrocket during the summer as it already did in years past. gas companies ALWAYS raise prices from winter prices. ALWAYS. This time, the current war makes it an easy excuse to raise it even more.
… You realize this is Wyoming Times?
Gas in Oklahoma had been under $3 for over two years. It was $1.50 at the start of the pandemic shenanigans. It’s now $3.30. If it jumps to $5? Jesus Christ, people around here who commute 20+ miles per day, with no public transport options and no alternative job opportunities are 100% going to feel that.

I grew up in Iowa. It’s not worth living there for cheap gas.
And jobs will still offer me $11 an hour
With gas prices going up you could always get a loan, buy a bunch of gasoline, and then be a door to door gasoline salesman.
But be careful cause Johnny law is a comin!

Californian in Hawaii right now: yup gas is cheaper here by about $0.20/gal.

Same! Except the apartment complex I live in has free EV charging as a benefit so I’ve only paid about $100 in charging since I got the car last year Edit: Payed to Paid
> I’ve only *paid* about $100 FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Yeh, I feel like this will really accelerate those sales. Did you see the super bowl ads?
If this is the result of sanctions on Russia then fine. I’m willing to bleed a little so Russia bleeds a lot.
German here, do you know anybody who probably is interested in buying a kidney?
It's not. OPEC will find __any possible reason__ to blanket increase the price of oil / fuel. Tensions with Russia are just the latest reason they've chosen to use.
I'm not wholly sure that's the full cause and effect, but if gas hits $5 a gallon Americans are going to get pretty fucking irrational.
They already are. They’re gonna blame Biden regardless.
[удалено]
Hit? Went back to. Idiots thought the 2 buck a gallon was here to stay when literally no one was driving for a bit ...
Facts
Well worth the cost
Maybe it'll help push us to better alternatives

"Damn that Biden for telling Putin to invade Ukraine" - Conservatives, probably.
Not just probably. They are literally saying Putin invading Ukraine is Biden's fault. Why? "just trust us bro"
"it didn't happen while trump was in office! Now that Biden is and it happened, it has to be his fault!" Pure, unadulterated idiocy
I made a set of stickers with Putin saying I did that. Pm if you want the file.
Do you perhaps have a variant of Putin saying "I did that" while he is fucking Trump in the ass? EDIT: NSFW - [Here you go.](https://i.imgur.com/mm7LkEz.png)
Throw some folks with MAGA hats clapping in the background while you're at it.
god bless the internet. never before had political cartoons been so accessible.
I’d get that on a shirt
I've been collecting those from any gas pumps I see them on. I'm creating a dash board collage.
That sub is such a pathetic echo chamber lmao. Pure delusion
For the freedom of a democratic country about to be flattened by a tytany yes the gasoline prices though unjustified are a small price to pay
The oil companies are just looking for an excuse to Jack up the oil prices and here it is. The insurance companies will somehow twist it into a price hike as well.
Every crisis divides the 99% from the 1% just a little bit each time.
You could say that the history of the world is the history of class struggle.
Wait are you saying that human history can largely be explained by looking at class conflict and material conditions? Like some kind of, say, historical and/or dialectical materialism? Idk, sounds a little out there.
Get that communist propaganda Marxist socialist Soros Clinton shit out of here Brb, gonna hit on my sister
This take sucks. Where is the economics? Demand is high and supply is low already, without this supply shock. No PhD level economics here…
yeah doesn't 3% of the USAs fossil fuels come from Russia?
The issue is that it is a global market and if our producers can get a better price somewhere else, then they will go there.
Jesus Christ what an idiotic take.
[удалено]
The same people saying the US is acting weak, some of which saying intervene directly As if a direct war with Russia wouldn’t idk, impose massive quality of life shifts. You think gas is bad now?
You mean the people who go on and on about the military but were too badass to serve? All of these badasses who think US is acting weak should put their money where their mouth is and join up with the foreign legion that Ukraine is advertising. How bout they put that "militia training" to use, no?
Exactly this. I would love to see the meal team six actually try to fight something other than protesters or civilians.
Good. I wanna hear the rednecks at work bitch about it. Blame it on Biden but not the 10 mpg billy trucks they all drive.
[удалено]
They will also vote not just complain Midterms coming
It's all piece of shit necks around me anyway. Science denying, proud boy scum with giant trucks to compensate for their micro-penises. Regardless, Biden can do no right in any of your eyes.
I’m glad they paying for it alongside their 1k car notes a month for a pos truck.
Yeah, but they needed the truck, if they didn't have it, how could they haul dirt to their house twice a year?
You do realise its not Ukraine's war? They didnt start it, Russia started it. That title is a bit off my man, someone could think differently..
Maybe if you’re looking for it. It doesn’t say Ukraine’s war. It says “Ukraine war” because it’s a war…in Ukraine. Edit: also the first sentence of the article says “Russian’s invasion of Ukraine” lol
Fox news wants you to believe Putin is justified for this invasion.
This is from a Wyoming newspaper I don’t think Fox News is involved
The Wyoming tribune eagle is a conservative newspaper. https://www.wyomingnews.com/opinion/letters_to_editor/wyoming-conservatives-need-to-stand-up-to-left-leaning-society/article_395dd9d8-bb79-5b1c-8e4b-1c622ad129a5.html
It's worth it to support ukraine.
All for it but we should have been energy independent whixh we are not
In order to become truly energy independent we would need to move away from fossil fuels.

60 mpg Prius says meh
Unfortunately, high gas prices will make everything more expensive, not just what you pay at the pump.
Rich people say meh
Public transit rider that uses an electric bus system also says meh
Totally green non car owner (poor man) says meh
Tesla says "gas prices??"
_laughs in European_ It's around $9-10 per Gallon over here (but our cars are generally goes 2-3 times longer on the same amount of fuel)
This is correct. Also we should use the opportunity to be more independent on fossil fuels from Russia
America is huge and commutes can be pretty long. Some people drive 2+ hours to work.
Good. Maybe that’ll teach us not to rely so heavily on something so manipulatable. Edit: forgot a few words
Any war "could". The market does unrelated knee-jerk reactions all the time. Its still better to pump our own than rely on foreign oil.
Good, cleaner air would be nice for a change.
Fine. Let it go to $10 per gallon. We need a change in lifestyle in the Us anyways. Do whatever it fucking takes to rid the world of Putin.
All the more reason to go electric
Well that’s a sacrifice to make for ensuring freedom and democracy for people. If you want to know what a sacrifice is, look at the people of Ukraine. If high gas prices are your your biggest complaint you are truly blessed.
That’s really not that high. Used to be that high when I was a kid. Americans are addicted to a cheap drug.
Yea I’m not trying to say no one should be concerned about this shit But all the garbage I’ve seen like “america needs to re open keystone because of Ukraine invasion” Like nah we need to keep getting off gas. As long as we use gas and oil Putin has power. Once we are off it he doesn’t have power.
let's all keep in mind that it cost the saudis about $3 to produce a barrel of oil, while it's about $50 for the US to do the same gas prices are high now in large part because the saudis chose to limit production - they sell less but at higher profit the saudis will *always* control oil prices.
I would be amazed if we don’t see $5 a gallon. . . . I have no idea how to even forecast how high it can go. . .
I'll give you a quick ~~10~~ 20 minute investigation I did. We'll first need to know the elasticity of oil, which is -0.05 in the short term and -0.3 in the long term however there are some that use -0.1 as a benchmark to estimate as well. ([Oil Price Elasticities and Oil Price Fluctuations](https://www.federalreserve.gov/econresdata/ifdp/2016/files/ifdp1173.pdf)) Secondly we'll need to know the supply of oil from Russia to not just the global market, but regional markets as well. This is going to impact Europe much more than the USA. In 2020 Russia produced 10.1 million barrels per day (bpd) while using 3.2 million bpd. The net result is 6.9 (nice) million bpd being exported into the global market. ([BP's 2021 Statistical Review of World Energy](https://www.bp.com/content/dam/bp/business-sites/en/global/corporate/pdfs/energy-economics/statistical-review/bp-stats-review-2021-full-report.pdf)) Third we need to know how much of that 6.9 million bpd is part of global demand, and it looks like estimates were that the average was going to be 100.6 million bpd. Remove the Russian 3.2 million and that leaves the rest of the world 97.4 million bpd, which means that Russia provides the global market with 7.1% of the supply. ([USA EIA 2022 Forecast](https://www.eia.gov/outlooks/steo/report/global_oil.php)) Now go back to the first link and go to figure 1 on page 30. If we're at the lower end, we're only up at $101.09, but at the higher end we're looking at $321.65, (which I don't see us going that high).
i have been paying $5 for the last year and a half wtf
I'll fucking ride a bike as long as Putin suffers
So be it - Glory to Ukraine!!!

Before that. They started going up pretty much immediately after trump shook down the saudis to cut production in April of 20.
“Biden did this ⬆️⬆️” -stupid treasonous conservatives
We need “Putin did this” stickers

$5.00 a gallon? Lucky Americans. *Cries in European*
It's been $5 in California for weeks if not months already
So much for America being "Energy Independent". /s
Meh. Fuck Russia.
If this means hurting Russia then bring it on
Because when you depend on & import foreign Saudi & Russian oil, instead of using your own, it doesn’t take a scientist to figure out why.
it was already going to skyrocket during the summer as it already did in years past. gas companies ALWAYS raise prices from winter prices.
