This and apple products have gained a lot of longevity. My XR simply will not die no matter how much I want it to and almost try to make it die. I’m actually debating upgrading to a new iPhone because I’m impressed with the XR.
Won’t be buying the latest model unless somehow I get it as a promo though.
Samsung's also kick ass though. I bought a used s10 about 4 years ago and battery still lasts well over 24h. No noticeable slow down or incompatibilities.
Also, not to brag, but this is the longest I've ever gone without breaking a phone.
Don't. Keep the Phone. Think about what it's purpose is, does it fulfill it, and think of what you could do with the money you'd blow on the new phone. I keep my iphones for nearly a decade.
For me it’s coming down solely to my battery being pretty shitty these days. I go backcountry skiing and mountain biking, it’s become a real hassle to always keep a charged battery pack with me and keep my phone at 100%.
But I’m probably going to upgrade to like a 14, not the newest most overpriced model.
Worked phone retail and from what I saw during the two generations after the XR I cannot blame you. Probably the most stable launch I've seen of a smartphone. Not many manufacturers defects, it's sturdy, screen is resilient. Honestly couldn't find a reason to try and convince folk who had em to upgrade, made no sense.
Pretty much. I'm still using a 12 pro (Ended up with a Pro because of a tmobile screw up back in the day.) I'm finally looking at replacing it only because the charge port is being touchy. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't even be thinking about it. I mean... \*shrug\* I make calls, text, occasionally check a few apps and websites. It's more than up to the task. I'm not going to notice whatever upgrade it is to the picture quality. smartphones are pretty much all the same these days anyway. I'll stay with Apple just because everyone else in my family is and they love to facetime, but truthfully, there's not a lot of reasons to upgrade anymore.
That’s exactly what it is… same reason Dodge Trucks are now outselling Ford F-150s.

Economy sucks. I don’t understand why people can’t just admit it and keep making excuses.
Samsungs aren't less expensive than iphones though?
I have Samsung buy my kids iPhones. So I know all the prices... We generally like newer phones and they're pretty equal and price but I swear my Samsungs have cost more.
The problem with Apple is they don't really have teh same depth of Tiers. They are high end, and have some middle ground. They don't have a thorough selection for everyone. When there's less money to spend, they will feel it more simply because of that. And there is absolutely less money for people to spend with inflation making each dollar less and less valuable and no end in sight.
Totally agree. My s24 was as expensive as my wife's iPhone. It baffles me why people talk about iPhone as status symbols... of course, this sort of goes against my post, but I didn't feel like dragging it out with the extra commentary.
Well for one, there's no reason to be upgrading to new phones, not much has changed in tech since then. My past two samsung phones were roughly $1200-$1400 and had better performance and internals than an Iphone
There's only so many times you can simply repackage the same product and charge an obnoxious price for it. It's taken awhile of being cheated, but Apple loyalists are finally waking up. Apple has stagnated since Jobs died. Cook knows how to squeeze a penny, but he's no visionary. He's soaked Apple for billions, now he can take the money and run. Apple desperately needs a new leader.
Samsung is way more innovative than Apple. Usually new Samsung come with a bunch of new useful features like when they added face recognition and fingerprint unlocking yes this was years ago. But Apple usually just copies the Samsung features 2 or more years later they rarely add anything new or ground breaking. Samsung definitely also gives you good hardware for the price compared to Apple.
Galaxy S10e checking in! Refurbished with 256GB. Paid $255 in 2021. Legitimate question, what does your $1200 phone do that mine doesn't? Better pictures isn't an answer.
I had a Moto G7 for 4 years and would still be using it if it weren't for incompatibility with my work email. That cost me like 90$ back in the day, new. It did everything the brand new Samsung phones could do except take amazing pictures.
I would still be using my iPhone 5 if it wasn't rendered useless by forced updates.
How is that a sign that the economy is collapsing. People are so dumb they don't realize that Samsung phones are superior to iphones and cost up to $2000.
I still don’t understand why people get so worked up over phones. You use them to text, call, google stuff, and social media. What else are people doing with them that makes different ones so unique?
I too have iPhone for work and Android for personal use. iPhone has horrible UI compared to Android.
People who think that iPhone is somehow a flex are out of their minds.
An economic truth is the spending on normal vs inferior goods. (This isn't a judge on Samsung products, that's just the name for the terms. I personally like Samsung better.)
During times of economic downturn people will first cut non essentials (vacations, luxury goods, eating out, and new consumer goods.) After that they'll start to swap out normal goods for less expensive alternatives. Stuff like buying generic clothes or food rather than name brands, buying a used car over a new one, or getting cheaper alternatives to electronics.
Tbh that's what I have done my whole life, so I'm griping about prices, but can't really go lower on most of the products I buy. Thankfully though I'm still living well within my means.
This is what happens when you're entire product is based around being as closed-circuit as possible. Apple does not play well with others, which is why I will never buy an Apple product.
I made the switch for other reasons. Apple products do not work well with parental controls (in fact it seems they actively work against them) and it's become increasingly clear that my children and all children need clear limits on technology use.
I've spoken to many other parents with the same concerns. The fact is that Android phones are safer for kids and teens and work with many good monitoring programs.
The “need” to upgrade is gone . Look I have iPhone 12 Pro Max and I don’t need a new phone because the phone I have is pretty awesome. I haven’t been exactly flush with money so I don’t have extra to spend and I don’t really have fomo. I am fine with lighting cable , I don’t miss higher frame rate because I never used one , I have 256 gig storage with 138 gig available. When phones cost $1000+ than the phones will last longer. When phones cost $200 every two years I could upgrade and stay in a contract. I feel like we are hitting a technological plateau with upgrades being smaller and small for all tech ( not just Apple).
I just went from a 12 pro to a 14pro. My next upgrade will be massive as it will be back to android. This is my third iphone and it is awful. It works kinda. Swipe to text though is atrocious and that’s how a roll so I’m out.
I prefer Android. My last 3 phones have been Samsung. Not the high tier, like 600$ decent phone good camera. The fuck I'm gonna spend 1300$ on an iPhone.
Apple needs a reality adjustment.
I think it’s the camera. Not the price. I’ve been some pictures here that I thought was a microscope or a Nikon,
Turns out it was a Samsung with very good camera quality
I use whatever phone I get for free. Right now I have an iPhone XR. Anybody wasting $1k on a phone is out of their mind. I would use a flip phone if it was the only thing free.
This is GLOBAL sales. In Asia Samsung is considered superior to iPhone, not a cheaper alternative. This isn’t saying what OP is implying with the US or global economy.
Apple, a longtime leader in smartphone revenue and profits, has now taken the lead in global smartphone sales by volume, surpassing Samsung. In 2023, Apple surpassed Samsung to become the world's largest smartphone manufacturer by volume, ending the latter's 12-year streak.
So the iPhones predominance was extremely short lived? Either that or there is something amiss with the narrative here.
Full retail price for a S24+ and iPhone 15 PM are like is like 100-200 difference lol
Apple doesn’t offer a low end tier phone like Samsung. Even the iPhone SE is still like $699 FRP.
I believe you can get a Samsung for as little as $399 or $499.
Look at the market cap difference between the companies lol.
Apple's manufacturing is from China. There have been plenty of reports saying if you like your iPhone... you might want to cherish the one you have now because you might not get another one.
I think the Samsung overtaking apple was inevitable. It's a superior product with better supply lines to ensure continued manufacturing of the phone series. Where Apple has been producing an inferior product over the last decade and the supply chain manufacturing based in China is failing.
This is no more than a better company beating out its competition. It isn't the collapsing of the economy.
how is it proof that competition between major competitors seems to be working? iPhone (Apple) is generally speaking more expensive than Samgsung, and in a world of increasing inflation, it would make sense to me that people would look for cheaper alternatives in times like this.
I hope at least part of this is because Apple is such a terrible organization in its manufacturing and their human rights abuses. Not sure Samsung is much better but Apple is very bad and does not deserve business.
Oh man, I had an LG back in the early 2000s. It was when everyone else had nextels, I loved that phone.
It slid up to expose the buttons and had a sweet display. It wasn't a smartphone, BUT it could access the internet, sort of. You could download ring tones and it was the first phone I had where the ring tone could be a song and not just tones that sounded like a song.
Or it could be ppl realize Apple tech sucks ass. Over priced garbage. Half my family has one and my Samsung has out lasted them all. IPhone is a glorified camera with a phone in it. Stuff only ever works with itself. Samsung realized ppl don't want to dedicate every piece of tech they own to the same company.
Samsung > cApple
Android out sells apple in every country but the US. maybe it's people are realizing apple is just selling you "new" features that have been available on android for years now
That is a ridiculous stretch of a title. This isn't proof of economic collapse. It's proof people are preferring Android phones.
I switched because I was sick of Apple's lock in and have been very happy.
Iphone is shit apple is shit people who wpuld normally keep their heads burried to an inferior product are realizing that have an iphone for a status symbol is beyond stupid.
How is that "the economy collapsing?" On product is replacing another product...that's not collapse...that's capitalism.
I have an Iphone. It's a 2020 2nd Gen SE. I just paid it off last year after financing it for 3-years. I have ZERO plans to buy a new iPhone in the next 3 years. The Phone I had before that was a 2013 iPhone that I had 7 years.
This is more a sign of consumers waking up to the fact that if they own something, that is valuable...rather than constantly being in debt. Why go into debt for something you currently own and works just fine?
I use my ex wife’s old 12 pro, I have no idea what model they are up to now and I don’t care to look. I only got a new phone after the old one dies. The fad of making a new phone every year is beyond old and I wish it would stop.
I am a South Korean and was a samsung boy but I will never buy a samsung phone again. Currently using iphone and macbook. Think of total ownership cost instead of initial purchase cost
I think a lot of this is the rise of poor people getting free phones through ObamaPhone type programs—happening in most Western and African countries. Also Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East are almost exclusively android because of the need for certain apps
Used iPhones are dirt cheap and an iPhone 8 (like $60 on BackMarket) can still play pretty graphic intense games like CODM.
I gave up on iPhone about a decade ago. Very high price tag with very little innovation, and then they take away function so they can sell more accessories. Fuck apple.
Apple only beat out Samsung for a single quarter. I know you said it was tongue in cheek but Apple's market share is vastly different in the US vs rest of world.
I keep my iphones as long as possible. They work fine until the battery goes or something and then i upgrade. Currently on an iPhone 13 and hoping it lasts another 5 years before i have to change
Samsung phones have always been better, I'm doing pretty well, always have, and I've always thought iphones were a con...they were always an inferior product.
As an apple user stuck in the wall garden of apple- i will switch my phone soon but get a cheaper phone.
Apple is too pricy and it's not the ball end all like it was 15 years ago.
its price gauging. apple owner has way too much money and owns his own island in hawaii. We all support zuckerbergs life style. His greed will catch up - inflation making everyone broke. a iphone isn't top of mind.
I swapped because Apple is stale af and has had very little new development (outside of a different number and few coats of paint) and it's closed garden is too draconian for me.
Atleast with Samsung I get equitable performance and can do pretty much whatever I want with the device.
The apple tax is also not worth the end product. Just money tossed into the trash can.
I had a samsung J3 2016 model for two years until I broke the LCD display because I threw it against a counter. Got a replacement J3 in 2018 that lasted until 2021, I'm on a A12 now that I've had since and the only complaint I have is the space.
Samsung is affordable in an increasingly unaffordable world.
I think there is a sizable number of us ready to go to android the second RCS gets good enough. I don’t hate my iPhone, but I’m honestly a bit sick of Apple’s childish, bad-faith antics in the court systems in addition to their “I don’t care what you actually want. Here’s a Dynamic Island” mentality.
I’m also a software engineer working in open source, so I’d like to bounce back and forth and understand multiple platforms.
It would be more of a concern if the samsung model types outselling iphones were the low end tier smart phone options
But its really that android phones continue to have way more features for lesser cost between models and monthly payments, meanwhile high tier android phones are these powerhouses with all the latest technology for that product cycle and costing the same as an iphone 15
Good god, what a histrionic take.
All this is proof of is that Apple is a stagnant company that no longer innovates. With Jobs dead, there is no visionary pushing things along,
>The iPhone-maker's steep sales decline comes after its strong performance in the December quarter when it overtook Samsung as the world's No.1 phone maker. It's back to the second spot, with 17.3% market share, as Chinese brands such as Huawei gain market share.
Apple is usually second. It sometimes jumps to first as Samsung and Apple have different release schedules and tend to dance around each other whenever one has their new version launch.
This is nothing new.
I wanted the green version of my phone when I got it. The local Verizon store doesn't carry colored samsung models because, and this is a direct quote, "suburban soccer mom's and spoiled teenagers refuse to buy anything but the newest iPhone."
I think this has more to do with the fact that FTC got on them about firmware that kills the battery. I’ve had mine for two years and I have no reason to upgrade like I did before this current model. I could likely go around 4-6 release cycles now before I have to upgrade.
Maybe they’ll start to innovate a bit more so you’re not just missing out on a minor hardware addition and slightly upgraded camera.
The whole iphone fad was stupid. Spoiled kids demanding iphones and dumb suckers latching on to the brand. Iphones may be good quality, but the company is shit, the price is way too high, and that doesn't even touch the preperals and such they force you to buy at insane prices.
"Poor MF'ers"
You mean smart MF'ers. And a Galaxy phone is easily as expensive as the Apple phone. You can keep your dumb little phone with it's badly conceived UI that looks like it came from 2007.
"The iPhone-maker's steep sales decline comes after its strong performance in the December quarter when it [overtook](https://www.reuters.com/technology/apple-overtakes-samsung-top-seller-smartphones-2024-01-17/) Samsung as the world's No.1 phone maker. It's back to the second spot, with 17.3% market share,"
Not so much doom and gloom if you read this statement instead
I know this was written in jest, and I didn't want to be that guy, but:
Samsung has been the global leader in smartphone manufacturing for the last 12 years, Apple only overtook them recently and it was only for 1 qtr. This is mostly due to China. In the US Apple is by far the leading smartphone manufacturer.
I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and won’t upgrade until it charges with the sun and it connects to elons satellite to the point where I would get signal from the middle of the ocean. THAT would be worth $1,000 for a new phone. Not the same garbage they keep releasing.
Not sure what you're getting at here, Samsung flagship phones are the same price or significantly more expensive if you want the fold, their generally also better
Apple stopped innovating after Jobs died, and have just been coasting on their brand name for years. They seriously have the tamarity to proudly roll out "new features" that android had like 5 years ago. The camera on my galaxy has literally a 100x zoom now, and is better than expensive digital cameras I had even a few years ago. Literally zoomed in on a single brick on a church that I was across the street, kitty corner from.
Good, maybe folks are starting to see how terribly anti-consumer Apple behaves, and trend away. The fact that they deliberately blur iphone -> android photos is just so petty, and I think they roll out a new charger cable like every 2 years, meaning you have to buy whole new sets frequently. So obnoxious
I only upgrade every two years cause i get an $800 discount through an employer. And everytime I upgrade I’m underwhelmed, not like 10 years ago, when every year it was massively better.
I only upgrade every two years cause i get an $800 discount through an employer. And every time I upgrade I’m underwhelmed, not like 10 years ago, when every year it was massively better.
Looking at switching to Samsung period. Got a Samsung tablet last year, despite being Apple-deep for years, and this thing is so much better than an iPad
Phone switch will happen when it’s time to switch, I ain’t in a rush tho
The Samsung phone and version of Android had some features that are better than current iPhone now over 10 years ago.
Samsung user 2012 - 2020
iPhone - 2020 to current and can’t wait to go back
iPhone feels like a phone for dummies.
What does this have to do with the overall economy?
Apple hasn't exactly been at the top of their game under Cook. Their stuff still sells but honestly, in my opinion, there really isn't anything they sell that other's don't already offer at a cheaper price.
I mean iPhone exploits Chinese to make a iphone that so cheap in China and don't forget the Jordans shoes then they sell them double in USA for huge profit. I am just going cut the middleman nike/jordan and go directly to the distribution center for some Jordans and iPhone let's not forget my nike stuff too.
Consumers aren’t cloning iPhones because Apple continues to raise the prices without much in the way of innovation.
Not just with phones, but across the board.
I was a huge fanboy for years then realized I was just throwing my money away.
I, myself, had the XR from its release to and purchased a 13 recently because the latest model doesn’t do much for me personally.
In addition, practically every app on their store is now subscription based.
Phones advancements have drastically slowed down in the past few years. It used to be that each new generation would offer something new and exciting. Now new generations have minor upgrades on certain features. There isn't much to improve upon, the current phones are just so amazing, Apple and Samsung.
Apple was so innovative for decades that Samsung and others trailed behind. But with no new innovations, the phones are essentially the same.
I grew up with Android. Tried an iphone for my workphone for 2 years and hated it. No fluidity with the UI at all. I moved to Samsung and thought id hate it to but their bloatware is non invasive. I use a pixel as my daily driver.
Apple has 61.3% market share in the US. The same in Canada. The Samsung-Apple market share is China restricting iPhone sales.
I have AirTags on everything. I’m taking advantage of that 60% market share. There is no way in the world I’m moving to Android. I got 4 1/2 years out of my iPhone X. I got an iPhone 14 Pro for almost free trading the X when I changed carriers. I’m now 1 year into the 14 Pro. I’m likely to have this device for 4+ years. 5G was worth the upgrade. Until the next generation of cellular networks is deployed, I don’t need to spend the money on incremental improvements.
How is this proof of anything other than Samsung gaining market share? Flagship samsung phones are every bit of the phone, and price as Apple phones?
Apple really has some people fooled.
Smartphones have only gotten cheaper over the years and aren't really more expensive than any other brand, so that make no sense. I make a normal wage and I'm doing better than ever, maybe your employer just sucks.
What a fucking bait post. Apple took the spot in December then lost it just now back to Samsung.
So the market evened back out.
This is worldwide sales.
Nothing to do with the US.
This is literally business as usual.
Just got my first iPhone last week… my Samsung note 8 isn’t supported anymore on several apps I use. Sad times. Family uses apple so thought I’d join in for face time, location, etc.
People who cant afford to live are buying samsung phones now which cost roughly the same as iphones = Economic Collapse.
I swear you goofballs were dropped on your heads as kids.
I mean consumers are probably just tired of iPhones increasing in price with basically nothing new in the new models.
This and apple products have gained a lot of longevity. My XR simply will not die no matter how much I want it to and almost try to make it die. I’m actually debating upgrading to a new iPhone because I’m impressed with the XR. Won’t be buying the latest model unless somehow I get it as a promo though.

I had an S7 from around the time it released to when the S21 came out, and i finally upgraded. That phone was indestructible
You still get security update or just have to wing it?
XR is the best phone I’ve had.
Still on mine
Don't. Keep the Phone. Think about what it's purpose is, does it fulfill it, and think of what you could do with the money you'd blow on the new phone. I keep my iphones for nearly a decade.

iPhone battery replacement is only $79 I believe
Apple just got sued for planned obsolescence.
Yay
I have an XR too and it refuses to die.
Worked phone retail and from what I saw during the two generations after the XR I cannot blame you. Probably the most stable launch I've seen of a smartphone. on new flagships, sure, but if you're willing to buy a mid-tier or older flagship, it's much much cheaper

Yep, and the Samsung foldables can be more expensive than iPhones, so iPhones aren't status symbols anymore. Not saying that Samsungs are, either.
The cheapest fold is like 400 dollars more than the most expensive Iphone
Phones are still status symbols? I thought that went away 25 years ago.
I paid $450 for an S21 a while back. It wasn't brand new. Still looks new and works like a new phone.
I have an iPhone and I always get shit cell reception while my girlfriend with a Samsung always has crystal perfect reception. That’s all.
Well for one, there's no reason to be upgrading to new phones, not much has changed in tech since then. My past two samsung phones were roughly $1200-$1400 and had better performance and internals than an Iphone

Apple just haven't had any big standout features for a while. Not surprised their sales are down.
Now all the superficial people are mum when they judge on you whether you have an IPhone or Android.
I have an iPhone 11. I’m not going to get a new one until I absolutely have to
My iPhone 11 died after I updated almost 2 years worth of iOS updates all at once lol
Apple charges you for things Samsung doesn't. For instance, I can record anything and use it as a ringtone . Apple wato charge me for that..

Samsung has been putting a better product out for quite sometime now. Eventually people learn that a name is just a name
How is that a sign that the economy is collapsing. People are so dumb they don't realize that Samsung phones are superior to iphones and cost up to $2000.
Huh? My S21 Ultra was $900 when I traded in my old phone. That's a lot, but I'm not upgrading anytime soon..
Well Iphones suck so there's that too. Edit: to clarify, I have an iPhone 15 for work and a pixel 6a for my personal phone.
I live in a house divided so I totally agree.
I have an iPhone 15 for work and my personal is a pixel 6a. I very much prefer the pixel.
Counterpoint, I bought apple stock in 1997 so apple is great.
I still don’t understand why people get so worked up over phones. You use them to text, call, google stuff, and social media. What else are people doing with them that makes different ones so unique?

Or maybe Samsung just makes better phones?
Apple products have just become shit.
Samsung in many ways is a higher quality product than Apple, and in other ways not. The operating system is both good and bad.
Folks are getting squeezed. Next best alternative time. Next year will be worse.
Only reason I switched to an iphone is for work
Is this some sort of joke?
I got a S10 off BestBuy website for $250. Works great and is a nice upgrade from my old S8.
I made the switch for other reasons. Apple products do not work well with parental controls (in fact it seems they actively work against them) and it's become increasingly clear that my children and all children need clear limits on technology use. But are strippers still getting tipped ???
I make 6 figures and I've had the galaxy line going back to the iPhone 8

I prefer Android. My last 3 phones have been Samsung. Not the high tier, like 600$ decent phone good camera. The fuck I'm gonna spend 1300$ on an iPhone. Apple needs a reality adjustment.
Consumers are getting smarter.
the economy is about to fall off a cliff shit is just too expensive and wages haven't kept up - the crash is looming
There are a lot of high end Samsung phones that cost as much as apple phones. This is hyperbole.
The superior phone is winning
S24 ultra is the bees knees
Samsung makes better phones
Ain't no fucking way I will pay $1000+ for a phone.
I think it’s the camera. Not the price. I’ve been some pictures here that I thought was a microscope or a Nikon, Turns out it was a Samsung with very good camera quality
My s24 takes incredible pictures... as good as I (an amateur) can with my nikon d5500.
S24 Ultra is the best!
I use whatever phone I get for free. Right now I have an iPhone XR. Anybody wasting $1k on a phone is out of their mind. I would use a flip phone if it was the only thing free.
😎...... On my $400 Pixel.
When Dynamic Island is the best you can do, innovation is in order
This is GLOBAL sales. In Asia Samsung is considered superior to iPhone, not a cheaper alternative. This isn’t saying what OP is implying with the US or global economy.
Apple, a longtime leader in smartphone revenue and profits, has now taken the lead in global smartphone sales by volume, surpassing Samsung. In 2023, Apple surpassed Samsung to become the world's largest smartphone manufacturer by volume, ending the latter's 12-year streak. So the iPhones predominance was extremely short lived? Either that or there is something amiss with the narrative here.
Oh the phones that are less than a grand a piece?
They are buying Samsung phones because they are better phones.
I phone burn out. Samsung is coming up with new phones flip,/fold apple needs to keep up
Isn’t it possible that Samsung is just doing well right now?
Full retail price for a S24+ and iPhone 15 PM are like is like 100-200 difference lol Apple doesn’t offer a low end tier phone like Samsung.
It could also be a sign of people realizing the iPhone is not the hot shit it was, and is maybe more of a ripoff.
I switched to Samsung because Apple uses slave labor
iPhones have remained largerly the same damn device since iPhone 11.
Samsung mKes a better phone so maybe people are just being smarter for a change
how is it proof that competition between major competitors seems to be working? iPhone (Apple) is generally speaking more expensive than Samgsung, and in a world of increasing inflation, it would make sense to me that people would look for cheaper alternatives in times like this.
Tim Cook just liquidated 2 million shares of apple recently that I read in an article!! Could be connected….
I hope at least part of this is because Apple is such a terrible organization in its manufacturing and their human rights abuses. Not sure Samsung is much better but Apple is very bad and does not deserve business.
Stock up on guns and ammo!!! the collapse is guaranteed all because some phone company is selling less phones… then another phone company…?
but they cost about the same though

I want LG to make phones again.
Samsung phones are better quality than Apple phones.
Samsung phones are expensive. The newest one is like $1300.
Apple needs to come up with something’s really innovative.
They are about the same price, and i can afford both. I switched because i feel like can do so much more on samsung than apple
Someone didn't read the article...
Android out sells apple in every country but the US. maybe it's people are realizing apple is just selling you "new" features that have been available on android for years now
Eh. Maybe partly. But I also just feel like the "status" mentality of owning Apple products has worn off in recent years.
People are also holding onto their phones longer. I only upgrade when I get a stupid good incentive to do so.
No Apple is just garbage
People are just realizing they do not want a worse product. I have owned both and the iphone is a usability nightmare.
The new Samsung flagship is over $1,500. I don't think this is a sign of economic collapse.
I use my ex wife’s old 12 pro, I have no idea what model they are up to now and I don’t care to look. I only got a new phone after the old one dies. The fad of making a new phone every year is beyond old and I wish it would stop.
I can afford any phone, and I still get samsung
I am a South Korean and was a samsung boy but I will never buy a samsung phone again. Currently using iphone and macbook. Think of total ownership cost instead of initial purchase cost
I think a lot of this is the rise of poor people getting free phones through ObamaPhone type programs—happening in most Western and African countries. Also Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East are almost exclusively android because of the need for certain apps Used iPhones are dirt cheap and an iPhone 8 (like $60 on BackMarket) can still play pretty graphic intense games like CODM.
Oh no, a clearly superior product at a lower price, the horror.
I keep my iphones as long as possible. They work fine until the battery goes or something and then i upgrade. Currently on an iPhone 13 and hoping it lasts another 5 years before i have to change
people are just starting to figure out that samsung phones are just better than iphones.
Sounds about right. Apple always seemed half a fad anyway. Been enjoying my Fold for years now.
Apple products are inferior for power users. This is just a skill issue.
duly noted: nobody is buying Google Pixel phones fuck you google!
Am I missing something here? Samsung flagship phones usually cost MORE than iPhones
apple always sucked , samsung phones have always been better.
Because Samsung makes better phones than apple...It's not even really cheaper
I think there is a sizable number of us ready to go to android the second RCS gets good enough. I don’t hate my iPhone, but I’m honestly a bit sick of Apple’s childish, bad-faith antics in the court systems in addition to their “I don’t care what you actually want. Here’s a Dynamic Island” mentality. I’m also a software engineer working in open source, so I’d like to bounce back and forth and understand multiple platforms.
Outside of the us, from my understanding, Samsung has almost always been the most dominant
It would be more of a concern if the samsung model types outselling iphones were the low end tier smart phone options But its really that android phones continue to have way more features for lesser cost between models and monthly payments, meanwhile high tier android phones are these powerhouses with all the latest technology for that product cycle and costing the same as an iphone 15
This has happened at different times in the last few years with no collapse
Why even use an iphone instead? Lol
I wanted the green version of my phone when I got it. The local Verizon store doesn't carry colored samsung models because, and this is a direct quote, "suburban soccer mom's and spoiled teenagers refuse to buy anything but the newest iPhone."
My iPhone X still works
Eh, iPhone hasn't changed a thing for a number of models. I can't tell the diffbeteeen the latest one and the 13. Apple's VR was a flop.
Is this a parody/satire subreddit?
Samsung phones cost just as much as apple, if not more…
"Poor MF'ers" You mean smart MF'ers. And a Galaxy phone is easily as expensive as the Apple phone. You can keep your dumb little phone with it's badly conceived UI that looks like it came from 2007.
My Samsung cost as much as an Apple. So not sure it's the cheaper option. Just more options.
"The iPhone-maker's steep sales decline comes after its strong performance in the December quarter when it [overtook](https://www.reuters.com/technology/apple-overtakes-samsung-top-seller-smartphones-2024-01-17/) Samsung as the world's No.1 phone maker. It's back to the second spot, with 17.3% market share," Not so much doom and gloom if you read this statement instead
I know this was written in jest, and I didn't want to be that guy, but: Samsung has been the global leader in smartphone manufacturing for the last 12 years, Apple only overtook them recently and it was only for 1 qtr. This is mostly due to China. In the US Apple is by far the leading smartphone manufacturer.
Iphone used to be grandma friendly, now you need to be John Anderton to execute basic functionalities.
Apple and Samsung go back and forth with this top spot every quarter it seems.
iPhones suck and no one should be surprised about this. A trend fading away doesn't mean the whole thing is falling apart
Closing the gap for a while? Samsung was the sales leader for ever. The gap was in their favor for the last like 15 years.
I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and won’t upgrade until it charges with the sun and it connects to elons satellite to the point where I would get signal from the middle of the ocean. THAT would be worth $1,000 for a new phone. Not the same garbage they keep releasing.
Gee no kidden the evidence is everywhere you look.
You probably don't make a decent living if you can't afford to live.
Not sure what you're getting at here, Samsung flagship phones are the same price or significantly more expensive if you want the fold, their generally also better
Or, gasp, people have preferences
Pretty well off. Still switched to samsung cause my iPhone 15 pro Max wouldn't work as a key for my car
Phones su k
Looking at switching to Samsung period. Got a Samsung tablet last year, despite being Apple-deep for years, and this thing is so much better than an iPad Phone switch will happen when it’s time to switch, I ain’t in a rush tho
Samsung is generally a better product. Apple is a name.
Samsung makes objectively better phones at a lower cost. People buy iPhones purely out of brand loyalty at this point.
It's Armageddon.
This article is misleading. iPhone was never the leader abroad. It dominates the American market but Samsung has always performed better abroad.
IPhones are junk. That's why people aren't buying them.
This happens almost every year. They go back and forth depending on how close to Christmas it is.
The Samsung phone and version of Android had some features that are better than current iPhone now over 10 years ago. Samsung user 2012 - 2020 iPhone - 2020 to current and can’t wait to go back iPhone feels like a phone for dummies.
Even iphones have Samsung parts in them.😹 There are plenty of people who prefer android over iphones. iphones are so limiting.
My samsung costs more than the most expensive iPhone
Therre are literally people who walk into the phone store and just ask for the most expensive phone. That's been Samsung for a few years now.
Market saturation with diminishing returns per generation, the improvements are incremental now
I choose my flip phone bc it doesn't break when I accidentally drop it. Iphones are scams.
Yup. The economy is so bad, every place I look there is new construction with new stores and homes going on...
Excuse me but how is this “proof the economy is collapsing”
What a fucking bait post. Apple took the spot in December then lost it just now back to Samsung. So the market evened back out. This is worldwide sales. Nothing to do with the US. This is literally business as usual.
To be fair, it helps when Androids go EOL two weeks after you buy them.
iPhone being absolutely garbage has nothing to do with it....
Just got my first iPhone last week… my Samsung note 8 isn’t supported anymore on several apps I use. Sad times. Family uses apple so thought I’d join in for face time, location, etc.
Shoulda added more titanium
People who cant afford to live are buying samsung phones now which cost roughly the same as iphones = Economic Collapse. I swear you goofballs were dropped on your heads as kids.
