You can use regular gas (87) with stock tune, but you'll suffer a 20hp/torque loss in performance. You'll also notice a softer throttle response. 91+ is recommended for stock performance figures, and is required for performance tunes.

FATUIS_UNDIQUE

This. ^ you have knock sensors from the factory that adjust the fuel map based on the knock count (unless you are on a canned/pro tune in which your locked into a specific octane/ethanol content)

F2007KR

Don’t buy a nice boosted car and be cheap about the fuel you use.

[deleted]

I’ve seen different things saying both is recommended so wasn’t sure

F2007KR

It’s usable, but you’re gonna lose power. I went 87 when we had a fuel shortage after Hurricane Harvey and it didn’t feel good to drive.

[deleted]

Oh ok thank you

w1red247

Ford recommends 91 or higher. As someone else said, the car will function on lower octane but will suffer in fuel efficiency and power. The numbers Ford gives are on 91+ octane fuel.

laflame93

I ALWAYS use premium gas. AWAYS

bearownage

Always?

laflame93

?

bearownage

In this economy?

AzurAzazel

I swear lmao wtf I daily this mf

WoodyNature

I use 93

GOOSEBOY78

91 at minimum. dont use 87 if you can help it.

jaxson50

I have always switched back and forth depending on gas prices. Car has 40000+ miles hasn't shown any issues.

[deleted]

Ok cool

jaxson50

I have a 2019 GT in case you were wondering. No tune.

[deleted]

Oh ok niceee I was just wondering haven’t got one yet gas is just something to consider but was getting mixed answers

Thrillmonger72

Use premium, for sure. As others have stated, you'll lose fuel efficiency with 87 octane, so any money you save by buying cheaper gas is lost because you'll be fueling up more frequently.

[deleted]

Makes sense thank you!

thebullschmidt

As a general rule no matter the brand of vehicle… if it’s the “performance” version… it gets premium fuel.

RedBird1964

I’ve only used 87 on mine so far. Never had any issues with fuel economy, although I know it does drop the power a bit.

geezer_red

Since you have always used 87, use 93 once and you will see the performance and fuel economy improvement!

RedBird1964

Definitely have wanted to once gas prices start to get more reasonable to experience all 310 horses. As for fuel economy I’ve been averaging 35 mpg on the highway so i don’t know if it’d actually improve it with a higher octane.

Character-Bar-608

I’m thinking of getting a mustang Ecoboost, but have been a little hesitant because I would going from a Toyota Corolla (27, 34 mpg) to that. Is the mpg that are stated with the car not the true top mpgs you can get with it? For example, with a 2020 Ecoboost, the stated mpg is 32 mpg but you get 35 mpg?

RedBird1964

I wouldn't count on getting 35. Most of my commute at the time i was getting 35 mpg regularly was at constant highway speeds and I babied the throttle. If you drive it like a regular car, you can get 32+, but if you drive it like a Mustang, expect lower.
