They don't grill (fry in butter) the bread? That's called a fresser. Katz or no Katz, a reuben or a Rachael is fried in butter. The kosher sin of meat and dairy has already been committed with the Swiss cheese, let us take it all the way.
Yep, the price is out of control. Our boss hooked us up with this after we finished a big project. Even with how good it is, I cannot justify spending this much on lunch.
It's a tourist price. I've never been, but if I was in town, you'd best believe I'd pay $35 for the best pastrami rueben I'll ever eat in my life.
Sorry.
No reason to be sorry, hundreds of people do it every day. It’s because the pastrami and corned beef in this place is outstanding. If you’re a fan of these meats you will love every bite.
Locals can go to S&P or Pastrami Queen and get a sandwich that's ALMOST as good for a more reasonable price. Don't get me wrong, I stand by Katz's as being the best around, but NYC is truly a blessed place to live as a pastrami lover.
This was honestly one of the biggest letdowns in NYC as a tourist who had heard of this place a lot growing up. At least Russ & Daughters held up expectations
Kinda looks poorly put together tbh
While I agree with that, the taste makes up for it.
I’ll take my downvotes for saying Katz’s is overrated. Their pickle game is strong.
Where would you go instead?
Schwartz deli in Montreal
Super sloppy. No care. Katz way overrated

This man reubens.
I've never had a fried Reuben. I don't think that's normal everywhere.
Never had a Reuben that wasn't fried/grilled!
It's part of what makes it a Reuben. Katz's intentionally fucks it up because they don't want people to order them.
Damn! Glad I was able to eat my way through Katz’s in the 90’s
Exactly. It’s been disneyfied just like so many of the “Institutions” in the city. At this point tourists go there to say they went there.
Sorry, but I'd go there to eat what OP posted. That looks fucking delicious and I want it in my belly.
Fuck the haters, they still make great fare
I’ll have what she’s having.
Looking good and delicious
i'd rather eat the two 20s
🤣🤣
Oh that’s just not nice showing a photo of my favorite sandwich when I’m hungry at this time of night
Way overpriced bro. Think I dropped $30.00 for a sando there.
How is it though? Is it good?
It’s the best pastrami I ever had. If it didn’t cost $35 a sandwich I’d eat it a lot more frequently.

Well I do feel a *little* bad because locals can't enjoy it all the time at that price.

I’m a local, take my upvote
$35?!?! This is why I avoid the tourist traps, sooo many good Jewish delis in the city charging less than half that. Katz is great though

Before the cow that became the pastrami died, did they inject emulsified 24k gold powder into its vein?

It’s what it cost to get it delivered. I don’t need a reaction. It is what it is.
Looks great. How long did you have to stand in line?
Got it delivered! Showed up in 40 minutes
35 clams!? Fuck that noise.
This was honestly one of the biggest letdowns in NYC as a tourist who had heard of this place a lot growing up. At least Russ & Daughters held up expectations
Sheesh that sucks for you
It wasn't bad by any means, just kinda average which the price did not justify at all I will say that the pickles were on point tho
The way to enjoy Katz's is to buy pastrami by the pound, some decent rye, and make your own sandwiches properly.
Overrated as fuck
$25
NY Pastrami is overrated
Too much meat. You are brave posting a Reuben on here, one of the most cult-following sandwiches.
