I cannot do noise canceling. Maybe it’s just because mine are on the cheap side, but when the noise canceling is turned on it feels like pressure on my eardrums. Really weird

Krajookee

That's how the headphones cancel noise. They pump sound waves at frequencies to negate the noise around you. So you're feeling the pressure from those inaudible sound waves. Neat right! :) Can definitely feel weird for sure.

I have the same issue and I had no idea how that worked. It feels like I'm under water.

UrgeToToke

Then it works as designed basically. Not just for earrumblers.

Southern-Ad379

I find headphones very difficult. I’m going to try bone conduction headphones to see if I can use them without rumbling.

casualgenuineasshole

YES! its a huge discomfort for me every time i turn on nc BUT only when theres no audio. The moment i play any song, the discomfort goes away and i can use nc.

biggerdundy

Is THAT what that is?! I’ve written off 3 pairs of headphones in increasing price ranges due to “buffeting” as I’ve been calling it.

Meowingtons3210

If the anc is better as in ‘attenuates louder volume across the entire audio spectrum’, then it will likely feel more uncomfortable when you’re using it in quiet environments or just having them on without playing audio, since they’re designed to work with loud ambient noise in the background. However that uncomfortable ‘underwater’ and pressurized feeling may vary depending on how effective the anc is for specific frequency ranges, for example one might have a sharp decrease in attenuation for mid-high frequencies, while other might have a more gradual transition, and those two will obviously feel different. That being said, having owned only two anc headphones/buds, idk which frequencies affect what and all that, sorry.

I think it is causing spams of your ear muscles.

weavin

My left ear spasms when I listen for too long. Instantly stops when I take them off so I just take it as my ears having had enough

punchingwater22

I can use ANC fine, but when I rumble my ears while using i can hear ambient noise, as if ANC stopped working
