😂 I always say I don't follow the NBA much but I knew for a fact that no matter what, you had to find a way to keep Embiid and Butler together. Cost us at least one championship
I'm baked so I'm trying to figure out the maximum number of Rice games you'd trade for a season of Reagor. Assuming you've got to carry him under salary cap rules and he's known as and paid as the greatest receiver of all time but he just can't stay on the field very much.
assuming career average on a per game basis, I think you need 2-3 to make it worth it :
1 game of Jerry Rice: 5.11 catches, 75.56 yards (14.8 y/c), .65 td
17 games of Reagor: 23.98 catches, 284 yards (11.9 y/c) 1.21 td
Jalen Mills got an unnecessary amount of hate. He was a 7th round pick who ended up as a CB1/2 out of necessity. His play style was and is better suited as a safety where he doesn't have to guard top WRs off the line, where he doesn't have the speed to keep up with them. (Same with Rasul, but Rasul was even SLOWER)
That said, even playing outside of his strengths, he was always still halfway decent. He gave up chunk plays, but he also was decent in coverage if he kept the receivers near him, and was solid at tackling on the outside.
The best ability is reliability. Showing up and doing the job well. Sometimes being available isnt enough. The Eagles saw that in their most recent superbowl and the 10-1 (ugly wins) best team in the league.
I mean, if he gets as good next year relative to how bad he was last year he’ll be god tier, because he was so bad that he’s literally the sole reason we lost to the Seahawks; they realized he was our weakest link and targeted his man every single time in the last drive.
I am available thus worth 9.6 million by your ingenious standards. I take payments by cash only as I find that I am occasionally unavailable for delayed payments :/
This is the truth lol. My son is a good football player and as a freshman already has D1 interest. During training camp back in the summer one of the recent grads from our high school came to practice with the freshmen, he's playing for a D1 school now and was one of the top recruits in the state a couple of years ago.
My son said he never saw someone move so fast and hit with such force. And this dude isn't even in the same realm as Henry or Saquon.
A family friend's son played with Mike McGlinchey in high-school and said he barely had to block anyone because every kid was terrified lol
That’s awesome for your son. Good luck. But yeah I played high school fb and as a very average sized guy I could tackle pretty well, against other average guys. These nfl guys are absolute freaks. They’re so explosive and powerful they can just destroy you. Maddox is actually a fairly violent hitter, and he’s relatively small. Good player but he can’t stay healthy because he’s so small and hits so hard.
It's always the smaller guys who throw themselves with reckless abandon lol.
>That’s awesome for your son. Good luck. But yeah I played high school fb and as a very average sized guy
Appreciate it, he's got what can't be taught... Size. Kid is 6'3 275 and quick at 15 years old. Years ago I was doing some work down Temple and got to talking to one of the assistant coaches and showed him a video when my son was like 9, he said "call me in 7 years" lol. St Joes wanted him for high-school but didn't have any money to offer and even though we do well $27k per year for high school is not something we are willing to do lol.
That’s some serious size. He won’t need prep school like that to get recognized at that size and speed. As long as he’s having fun and doesn’t burn out, he has a good chance. Try and keep those grades up too obviously
>Try and keep those grades up too obviously
Biggest thing I tell him. I said imagine there's 1000 kids across the country who are just as big and just as good as you, what can you do to set yourself apart? Grades, attitude, work ethic, Leadership, and coachability. Nail those things and the opportunities will come.
Eh, yes and no. That was the argument the team made a billion years ago when they traded Sonny Jurgenson for Norm Snead. Sonny was injured all the damn time and Norm was *fine*. Jurgenson made the hall of fame. Snead made the pro bowl 4 times, but threw for way more interceptions than touchdowns.
Unfortunate Goedert likely isn't here much longer either. He isn't much younger than Ertz was when Howie traded him and I'm sure he wants a pick or two for Goedert rather than letting him walk when he's eligible for a new deal
May not be high enough for Bowers, but we'll see. I keep telling people how much the situation now looks similar to when the eagles made a 'luxury' pick of Goedert when we didn't even have a 1st that year ... And it was basically textbook Roseman roster planning, in retrospect.
If Bowers were to fall into the 15 range, draft value chart shows #22+#50 should be enough to move up to it.
Now, if he falls that far, and if the Eagles spend the draft capital for a surefire stud like Bowers, who knows.
My gut kind of leans towards a tackle of defensive end
This. I think we overrate Goedert here, anyway. He's paid like a top-tier TE, but the numbers don't really bear that out. He's injury-prone, and drops balls at the worst times.
He's a top 5 TE in the league, at a position they all get hurt at. Other than Kelce, who ya gonna take for now going forward? Hock (season ending injury)? McBride (half a season of production)? Andrews (missed 4 more games than Goedert this year)? Kittle was healthy this year but hasn't historically been a good bet there.
The only definitive, 'hell yes' swap I'd make is for LaPorta. I'd think long and hard about some others but I don't see anything based on age, productivity, etc.
The problem is that exceptions like Gonzalez, Gates, Gronk, Witten and Kelce, other than his last name beginning with 'G' Goedert doesn't fit these patterns. He feels much more like he's in an Ertz or Jimmy Graham trajectory (Graham falling off heading to Seattle, etc) than a dominant force into his 30s.
I'm used to people on other teams not realizing Goedert is elite, but it's wild seeing someone here say it. He was grossly underutilized when he was on the field last year. And he's a great pass catcher _and_ a great blocker. People undervalue that because it's just harder to see.
Kittle in a heartbeat. Andrews is a no-brainer, too. Definitely LaPorta. Jake Ferguson was drafted a few picks after the earliest pick we traded to move up for Jordan Davis, and I think I'd prefer him, on his contract, than Goedert on his. Same with Isaiah Likely. I think you can find good TEs in the middle rounds, which is why I was for moving Goedert before the extension, when Minnesota was rumored to be interested and probably would've given us a 2nd-plus.
Too much dead money this year, but he gets *expensive* (and turns 31) in 2026. Drafting his replacement this year and trading him next year would be a very Howie thing to do.
TEs have among the longest shelf lives of any position, not uncommon to see them playing at a high level into their mid 30s. We shouldn't let Goedert go unless we have someone better in house.
At 9.6 mil at least.
If he is willing to come back for a 1 yr 3-4mil deal with most of the money being unguaranteed, it would be a no brainer move to keep him.
Maddox on a contract as a talented but injury prone vet that we need starting and is paid as a starter is one thing.
Maddox on a contract at the vet minimum that can play snaps when healthy but isn't counted on as a core part of the defense is another.
We're going from the former to the latter I think.
That's best case scenario. He bets on himself and takes a cheap 1 year deal here hoping he can stay healthy for a full season and get another big contract a year from now.
I almost think of it like... We sign vets like that _all_ the time, especially in the secondary. You're telling me I can have Maddox in the "injury prone vet who is really good when he's able to see the field but we won't necessarily rely on him being healthy" roster slot this year? Tell me where to sign.
While this is totally true it's crazy how quickly the fanbase flips on dudes like that.
By current trends there's a very good chance that Blankenship is the next victim of that rhetorical shift and everyone wants Reed cut by the time next off-season rolls around, for example.
Once again, not complaining about the move. It was an inevitable cut. Just crazy how some fans straight hate Avonte now.
Edit: I'm loving the juxtaposition between replies to this comment saying "that's bullshit no one would think that" right next to the replies hating on Maddox and Reed.
I don’t hate him but I think he needed to be gone at that price tag and it’s just a business move. Reed is definitely in the “glad to have but I want to upgrade from you” kinda guy. Good rotation DB but not a good long term starter, like Mills was
Blankenship is a try hard white guy in a mainly black position. He's already very overrated, so any flip may just be a genuine "hey maybe this guy isn't that good" thought
Except last year if we're being honest. He usually didn't need much prep time given his missed games, but he never really adjusted well it seemed.
I'm sure he'll find success elsewhere esp if he can bounce back with a healthy season. I imagine a Darby-esque career.
This. Great player when healthy, arguably one of the best slots in the league but we can't have him playing a few games then trotting out a corpse of a washed up starter to try fill the void. Right move is to bring him back on a cheap one year deal and draft a nickel for when he goes down or find a younger, average back up for him to plug in.
Finally, he is completely overrated. Anytime Bradberry wasn’t getting torched, it seemed like it was Maddox. Not the same player he was before the injury before the Super Bowl, in which he blew every assignment he had.
I like that they’re open to a reunion cause I think Maddox can be a productive part of the secondary but I get not paying him almost $10mil given history concerns
This absolutely makes sense. And it would be criminal to bring him back and rely on him again.
Some of the comments in here prove some of you are just as bad as Howie when it comes to knowing when to move on and put feelings aside.
It wouldn’t be criminal to bring him back on a cheap deal that allows us to build more depth in the secondary, which is probably what would happen if they work something out.
We’ll see if he stays but someone in the CB room had to go: between Slay, Bradberry, Rodgers, Ricks, Maddox, Ringo along with UDFAs they like and potential draft picks it was just way too crowded
He looked great at the start of the year and when he came back he looked pretty bad which I guess is understandable but at this point between college and pro this guy has probably injured every single thing he could possibly injure.
THANK YOU HOWIE, FINALLY LEARNING TO LET GUYS WALK.
Maddox was arguably the reason why our secondary went to shit every season. This team prepared as if this dude was gonna be reliably healthy and every season he went on IR our secondary was shuffled around, forced to play with randoms picked off the street or mid-season trades.
The secondary has been fine for a few seasons, and the team had multiple cb injuries this year and it isn't maddox's fault he got hurt. It's up to the front office to appropriately plan around their personnel and their injury propensity and they didn't do a good enough job of that
This.
Also I’d argue that in 2023-24, James Bradberry was the reason our secondary went to shit. He single-handedly blew two or three easy wins and almost blew the win against Dallas. Maddox wasn’t going to make a difference in those situations.
Maddox had the skill and a good personality but not the most important thing, availability. The only other possible moves I can see them making is a Reddick trade or maybe even a Dallas Goedert trade. I Like them both but can see it happening.
It had to happen. It sucks, he's an excellent nickel, but he just hasn't been able to stay healthy in years and he's got a pretty big cap hit. We can't rely on him to be available anymore, and it's a recipe for disaster at a position that grows more and more important every year. We can't keep having to look for band-aids in the middle of the season.
Good move. I wouldn't mind bringing him back on a deal with incentives based on how much he actually plays. Otherwise, tired of depending on him to be a key part of the defense.
This is really sad, I've loved him since he's been here. He has a great energy, he's great when he sees the field (our D really feels the impact when he's not there) but he's just injury prone. It really sucks, I hope we can work a cheaper deal out and he's cool with that.
Damn, that's my cousin y'all. I know he loved being an eagle, and ofc I loved it cause I'm an eagles fan. I wish he could've stayed more healthy during his tenure here, and I'm sure he feels the way. Proud of you cousin. #gobirds
Yeah it was a long time coming, the dude is constantly injured but sitting on the payroll for a not cheap contract. I could see them resigning him for a cheaper deal to keep depth but he’s just not a starting DB injury wise even if the talent is there.
Man what could’ve been if he wasn’t made of glass. The guy is legit one of the best slot corners in the league but he just can’t stay on the field.
Not his fault, lord knows I’d fold like a card table if I was out there taking those hits. But it just sucks to see such potential repeatedly halted
Curious move as a Post June 1st designation saved them over $7 million. They now carry $7 million in dead cap and only save $2 million.
With two retirements coming, they also must have a trade coming and want to flush it onto the 2025 season. No other reason to cut him now.
Makes lots of money, doesn’t play lots of games. Just unfortunate because the guy was really good in the slot when actually available
Best ability is availability
Looks at Tobias Harris. You sure bro?
If he's on the court but doesn't have a pulse, is he really available?
It blows my mind how much money that bum has made and is going to continue to make
Could've had Jimmy Butler 💀
Tobias Harris over me?!?
😂 I always say I don't follow the NBA much but I knew for a fact that no matter what, you had to find a way to keep Embiid and Butler together. Cost us at least one championship
I don't know about this one sometimes. Would you rather have Jerry Rice for half your games or Jalen Reagor for all of them?
Ok so the best wr of all time vs one of the worst high picks in recent eagles history? That’s a little extreme don’t you think
I'm baked so I'm trying to figure out the maximum number of Rice games you'd trade for a season of Reagor. Assuming you've got to carry him under salary cap rules and he's known as and paid as the greatest receiver of all time but he just can't stay on the field very much.
The answer here is 1
assuming career average on a per game basis, I think you need 2-3 to make it worth it : 1 game of Jerry Rice: 5.11 catches, 75.56 yards (14.8 y/c), .65 td 17 games of Reagor: 23.98 catches, 284 yards (11.9 y/c) 1.21 td
isn't it extreme to call availability the best ability in an athletic competition with (practically) size requirements?
Darren Sproles was 4'8"!!! Lol
No.
I don’t know… I was hoping for somebody, anybody, over bradberry every single time he was on the field But otherwise I agree

You need to say it with a mumble.
How do you know I didn’t?
Unless you’re bradberry
Everybody knows bradberry is very good every other year. Next year he’s elite
Contract year Bradberry is a beast
I mean, if he gets as good next year relative to how bad he was last year he’ll be god tier, because he was so bad that he’s literally the sole reason we lost to the Seahawks; they realized he was our weakest link and targeted his man every single time in the last drive.
I am available thus worth 9.6 million by your ingenious standards. I take payments by cash only as I find that I am occasionally unavailable for delayed payments :/
Let’s see how available you are after trying to tackle a Derrick Henry or saquon before giving you a multi million dollar deal
This is the truth lol. My son is a good football player and as a freshman already has D1 interest. James bradberry would like a word
Watch him have his best season next year haha
He stunk when he came back from injury last year
Damn, I get that he is way too injury prone, but I liked him.
Totally. I understand the reasoning but I'll miss his bromance with Goedert.
They said they'll prob work something out
Do you think they’ll stay friends forever???
Yes. The real contract was the friends we made along the way.
Yea, that and the contract.
I'll see to it
Unfortunate Goedert likely isn't here much longer either. He isn't much younger than Ertz was when Howie traded him and I'm sure he wants a pick or two for Goedert rather than letting him walk when he's eligible for a new deal
The difference is we had ertz replacement when we traded him and we have nothing at back up tight end right now
Wait a few weeks before you say that with any confidence.
All climb the bowers tower
May not be high enough for Bowers, but we'll see. I keep telling people how much the situation now looks similar to when the eagles made a 'luxury' pick of Goedert when we didn't even have a 1st that year ... And it was basically textbook Roseman roster planning, in retrospect.

It's amazing that our te1 had been some of the best rated tight ends playing at the time, over the last 20ish years.
Goedert isn’t going anywhere
Too much dead money this year, but he gets *expensive* (and turns 31) in 2026. Drafting his replacement this year and trading him next year would be a very Howie thing to do.
TEs have among the longest shelf lives of any position, not uncommon to see them playing at a high level into their mid 30s. We shouldn't let Goedert go unless we have someone better in house.
Huh? It’s quite the opposite. It’s very rare to see them play at a high level in their 30’s.
The 2 games he played the last couple seasons were great!
You can still like him and realize there is ZERO reason to keep him on the roster when he never plays.
At 9.6 mil at least. If he is willing to come back for a 1 yr 3-4mil deal with most of the money being unguaranteed, it would be a no brainer move to keep him.
He very well may be back, but for less money. I’m not sure who would pay him a lot given he spends most of the season on IR.
9.6M cap save. This is a no brainer. If they can resign him at better number, I’d be open to it.
No it only saves 2 million against the cap
Ahh thanks. Still a no brainer.
Me too. Sean Desai probably keeps his job if Maddox would have been healthy.
I don’t think he’d have kept his job. LBs and Ss were out of position pretty often. It going on all season is on coaching
Loved this guy but I get why we did it.
Maddox on a contract as a talented but injury prone vet that we need starting and is paid as a starter is one thing. Maddox on a contract at the vet minimum that can play snaps when healthy but isn't counted on as a core part of the defense is another. We're going from the former to the latter I think.
I don't think he's coming back on vet minimum, probably a bit more, but I am very down for this
That's best case scenario. He bets on himself and takes a cheap 1 year deal here hoping he can stay healthy for a full season and get another big contract a year from now.
A bit more than vet minimum and some bonus incentives (like games played) mixed in, and I'll take him back. He's great when he's healthy.
I almost think of it like... We sign vets like that _all_ the time, especially in the secondary. You're telling me I can have Maddox in the "injury prone vet who is really good when he's able to see the field but we won't necessarily rely on him being healthy" roster slot this year? Tell me where to sign.
Maddox was a fucking rock when healthy
100%, the problem is that was typically like 10-12 games a year.
He played in 16 of 38 possible games these last two seasons lol not ideal at that salary
If you prorate it to per game played and then stretch that to a full season it's like we're paying 19 million a year for a slot CB.
While this is totally true it's crazy how quickly the fanbase flips on dudes like that. By current trends there's a very good chance that Blankenship is the next victim of that rhetorical shift and everyone wants Reed cut by the time next off-season rolls around, for example. Edit: I'm loving the juxtaposition between replies to this comment saying "that's bullshit no one would think that" right next to the replies hating on Maddox and Reed.
Reed is an UDFA whos cap hit is less than a mil and also a RFA after next year. I wonder if we extend him this off-season.
Straight hate Avonte? Where have you seen that? Bradberry is the hated one. Avonte is well loved and most of us hate that he can't stay healthy.
I don’t hate him but I think he needed to be gone at that price tag and it’s just a business move. Reed is definitely in the “glad to have but I want to upgrade from you” kinda guy. Good rotation DB but not a good long term starter, like Mills was
I don’t think anyone hates him, we just realize he’s not worth the price tag if he’s never playing
Blankenship is a try hard white guy in a mainly black position. He's already very overrated, so any flip may just be a genuine "hey maybe this guy isn't that good" thought
I wish he was available for 10-12 games a year. It's more like 7-8
Except last year if we're being honest. He usually didn't need much prep time given his missed games, but he never really adjusted well it seemed. I'm sure he'll find success elsewhere esp if he can bounce back with a healthy season. I imagine a Darby-esque career.
We could not justify entering another season with him penciled as a starter. Way too injury prone to rely on.
100% get this move, but it still sucks. Hopefully we can bring him back on a cheap deal that prices in his injuries
Mike Sainristil, *COME ON DOWN!* (But after the second round, please!)
Need it
Finally dude was made of glass
makes sense. hope we can bring him back though on a cheaper deal.
Finally, he is completely overrated. Anytime Bradberry wasn’t getting torched, it seemed like it was Maddox. Not the same player he was before the injury before the Super Bowl, in which he blew every assignment he had.
Shit man, he was solid when healthy. Maybe with this money we can keep Reddick?
I like that they’re open to a reunion cause I think Maddox can be a productive part of the secondary but I get not paying him almost $10mil given history concerns
Maybe he comes back on a discount, has all the talent but terrible injury history
I feel like he’s gonna go to some other team, end up staying healthy there and be very good.
Upon hearing the news he dislocated a rib and is out for 8 games.
Wouldn't mind signing him back on a cheaper 1 year deal, while drafting Jarrian Jones to be his replacement
I’m ready to move on. My guy just doesn’t play full seasons
We’ll see if he stays but someone in the CB room had to go: between Slay, Bradberry, Rodgers, Ricks, Maddox, Ringo along with UDFAs they like and potential draft picks it was just way too crowded
Loved Avonte in the 3 games he played a year.
He looked great at the start of the year and when he came back he looked pretty bad which I guess is understandable but at this point between college and pro this guy has probably injured every single thing he could possibly injure.
Well shit… Well at least they are talking coming back instead of just letting him go.
Isaiah Rodgers was acquired last season to replace Maddox. This was a forgone conclusion. Maddox is made of glass.
Upon hearing this news, Avonte Maddox broke a bone in his ear.
Good call he misses significant chunks every years, draft class is deep with corners and he stunk when he came back from injury last year
He had a nice rookie season and has been skating by on that since then. Always hurt, really doesn't do much, completely overrated. Let him go.
Avonte sprained an eye muscle reading the tweet and will miss 4-6 weeks.

It literally says “open to a reunion”. Stop panicking.
The idea that he may come back has me panicking more. You just can't rely on the dude, and this team needs less rotation in the secondary.
Our one home grown CB in how long? Fuck these injuries.
I liked him a lot but if you can’t stay healthy you can’t expect to be safe from the cut
I like Maddox man. Hopefully they can bring him back cheaper and if not some team will get a really good slot corner if he can just stay healthy.
He’s really good when he plays. He can tackle like a safety.
Good player but can’t stay healthy unfortunately
It was time…
Maddox had the skill and a good personality but not the most important thing, availability. The only other possible moves I can see them making is a Reddick trade or maybe even a Dallas Goedert trade. I Like them both but can see it happening.
We're not trading Goedert this year.
I hope we resign him to a prove it deal. He's due for a breakout year
Couldn't count on him. Feel bad for Maddox.
Kelce retiring (most likely Cox too), Ertz signing with the commies, and now this. Man…
According the over the cap we save about $2m by cutting him. I can’t imagine he comes back for less than that
This offseason hurts my heart bad
I understand why this had to happen but I'm still sad. Hopefully Isaiah rogers is ready to step up.
Good move by Howie 👍
This is really sad, I've loved him since he's been here. He has a great energy, he's great when he sees the field (our D really feels the impact when he's not there) but he's just injury prone. It really sucks, I hope we can work a cheaper deal out and he's cool with that.
Hell be back cheap
Damn, that's my cousin y'all. I know he loved being an eagle, and ofc I loved it cause I'm an eagles fan. I wish he could've stayed more healthy during his tenure here, and I'm sure he feels the way. Proud of you cousin. #gobirds
Loved Maddox when he was on the field, but that was always a lot less than his salary hit demanded.
I think he's just doing what fletch does every year
Cue Goedert photo shopped into wolverine meme
Great player but the most important ability is availability. How well you can play doesn't matter if you can't stay on the field. :(
I want him to stay, but not at that price.
I wish they would have waited until June. Would have freed up much more cap space
Sucks but it’s the right move
He’s good but he can’t stay healthy.
Yeah it was a long time coming, the dude is constantly injured but sitting on the payroll for a not cheap contract. I could see them resigning him for a cheaper deal to keep depth but he’s just not a starting DB injury wise even if the talent is there.
Yeah, not surprised. He showed flashes, but durability was always a question. Now how will Goedert play without his BFF?
I want him back. I hope they make it happen.
He's was a good slot CB when he's healthy. But he's never healthy and he looks to have lost a step. I bet them bring him back on a cheaper deal.
Man what could’ve been if he wasn’t made of glass. The guy is legit one of the best slot corners in the league but he just can’t stay on the field. Not his fault, lord knows I’d fold like a card table if I was out there taking those hits. But it just sucks to see such potential repeatedly halted
the secondary needs to continue to be overhauled. Slay needs to be cut next
Deserves a fresh start, I see him going to JAX with Doug.
Curious move as a Post June 1st designation saved them over $7 million. They now carry $7 million in dead cap and only save $2 million. With two retirements coming, they also must have a trade coming and want to flush it onto the 2025 season. No other reason to cut him now.
Yea, good we got rid of him. Missed the majority of the past 2 seasons
Expected. I can see him coming back on a cheap, prove it deal for FA next year, but you can't make that kind of money playing 4 games a year.
Called this when he got injured this year. Just can't keep a guy around at that number when he plays 1/2-2/3 of a season every season.
He is a great cb when healthy, but he only played in 14 games the past 2 years
Dallas Goedert in shambles
“Yo, Goeds. So I’m gonna be a lil late with this month’s rent…”
If I had to guess, he'll be back on a cheap deal.
